I've done a lot of sbc so I've never even worried about fitness. I've got so many single player fitness cards I see any squad ones for 5k at a time and rotate most of my team anyway.

Then again some people play super autistically. Thing is, I think most people just spend 5x the games value on points every year. It's very rare now that I play a team without one if those absurdly over powered purple cards. They're so hard to beat, they're either faster or stronger, often both. They are literally a case where you can pay to be better in every way an EA absolutely encourages it. Yet, the teams without silly IFs are the ones which really smack me up.

I've enjoyed so little of 17, and its become so increasingly pay to win that there's barely another option, that I can't see myself buying 18. They're never going to add fun modes. There's never going to be a local dream team or even draft mode where I can pick who I want easily and play against a buddy. There's never going to be anything that is of benefit to someone who plays it casually, an adult basically. It's legit only for kids with zero responsibility.

Workrates are off for your mids. H/H -H/M (1 box to box 1 playaker), H/M x2 (2 playmakers) for your cms seem to work best for me in that formation. Just figure out your workrates on how you want your players to run around and fill in the slots with players u like.

cannot believe how fucking OP vardy is lads. he's only a 82, his stats are garbage, why the fuck does he perform so well for me?

I make it a point/principle of giving every player that doesnt have dogshit stats a go, but in the end I always end up with small, agile players. Vardy is the opposite of that.

While his turning speed is fast enough that you can turn without losing the ball, he's still not an agile player and you cant dribble with him or change your direction easily. his dribbling stats are not good. any other player with these kinds of stats would lose the ball easily, since he has neither the balance+agility nor the strength nor the ball skills to keep the ball, but he doesnt. his lack of ability never hinders my play, I can always do whatever I want with him, even though I shouldnt be able to.

his passing stats are shit. but still, he's the only forward I've had so far that can actually pass beyond just laying it off to an open man - he can do difficult through balls or lobs and always places them well. his shooting is absolutely amazing - it's almost impossible not to score with him, no matter who the opposition GK is, you dont even need to aim - just curl it or go for a low shot.

I've read these posts saying that people have been relegated loads of divisions and I'm having the same thing. Higuain had 38 goals in 41 games for me, but he is now on 41 in 54. I haven't looked close to winning a game in several seasons and think I'm going to be relegated from div 8 with no points collected. What on earth is actually happening? I refuse to believe I haven't played anyone on or close to my skill level in about 4 seasons now.

My players just can't run by these 70 pace cb's anymore. All I can think to do is totally swap out my team, which I really don't want to do as I have an untradeable 85 Naingollan.

That team is fine. I think the problem is that you're trying to outpace your opponents rather than working the ball to Higuain. You either need to change your playstyle or get some pacier players. Regardless, trying to sprint past defenders won't work in Div 1 or fut champs so you're probably better off changing your style of play.
