Cody's clearly great at countering, but when he leads I feel like he's not that great (although he has gotten several heems rushing forward, I just feel he's not very refined when he does). TJ's whole game is based on pressure and takedowns.
I think Cody's speed and movement combined with his wrestling and his punishing counters will make him tough to take down.
Maybe the kicks from outside the boxing range can play a role? Still dangerous though, if they get caught it could lead to a rush forward and TJ getting blitzed.

Maia is probably one of the best ground and pounders, his striking is bad, but the way he supplements his BJJ with wrestling rides and focuses on cage wrestling makes his ground and pound scary. I recall both Condit and Brown mentioned in post fight interviews with their fights against Maia, that his punches on the ground were some of the most painful. Studying the tapes you see Maia supplement posistional control, instead of waiting for a moment of kazushi or fishing for under and over hooks, he creates his moments of attack with a few punches, this makes his opponents readjust or defend and then he moves into his next offensive or defensive set.


I am a huge Maia fan and he is a great fighter to study. Any grappler from judo, to wrestling and BJJ should study the way Maia fights and applies strikes to his ground game. Wither its offensively minded with ground and pound and progression of position or the way he uses the walls to help him with his striking defense (what was the stat over the last 4 fights he's only been hit 4 or 5 times?) That is impressive and Maia deserves the accolades, title shot and respect
