Not sure what timeline I find funnier:
Alonso going to the Indy500, winning with no experience, and making all IndyCar drivers look like amateurs.

1) I'm white
2) Why don't you support Hamilton? Just because he's black? I mean, presumably you supported Button right? Just as I did, and I can't wait for Button to come back for Monaco (assuming he does).
Sure Hamilton can be a twat sometimes but I think that Alonso and Vettel and Schumacher could also be twats. They all have arrogance and they all have egos.
Sure, Hamilton is perhaps a bit more preening and faggoty in some ways. I watched that video in the thread of him singing and I thought "what a fucking fag", but on the flipside, he lives a pretty baller life (pic related)
Good to know I've become a meme though. I like it.

It is really pretty, Roger's team was very forward thinking when they made the high, f1 style nose which had been the norm in F1 for some time.
Unfortunately, it was never adopted by Reynard, Swift, or Lola after Penske stopped developing their in house chassis the next year.
The f1 cars that year, while clearly more advanced were never as pretty.
Veel nice McLaren jacket
>>75207469

They should've done that in China and look how close it was. Technically speaking domination by Mercedes would be a 1-2 and they've not managed that yet.

You misspelt hilarious.
Following yesterday’s news that Fernando Alonso will miss the Monaco Grand Prix to race in the Indy 500, McLaren have given details of the other races the Spanish driver will sit out, and the reasons why.
‘Fernando has suddenly realised he is quite busy with other engagements this year,’ admitted senior McLaren spokesman, Señor MacLaren-Spohksman. ‘In fact, the more he’s driven the MCL32, the more commitments elsewhere he seems to have remembered.’
The team today confirmed that, fresh from his Indy experience, Alonso will also miss the Canadian Grand Prix because he’ll be driving in a WRC event in Sardinia, the Azerbaijan race because he’ll be driving in a NASCAR race in California, and the Austrian GP because he’ll be driving up the M6 to Stoke-on-Trent to see his old mate Peter Wilson which has been in the diary for ages and, sorry, he really can’t get out of it.
Sources say Alonso will also miss the British Grand Prix because he has a friend’s wedding, the Hungarian Grand Prix because it’s Ruben Barichello’s 48 hour Dempsey & Makepeace marathon that weekend, and the Belgian Grand Prix because he really wants to watch the Belgian Grand Prix on telly. He will also sit out the Spanish Grand Prix because he has ‘a lot of friends coming in town’ that weekend.
In total, Alonso is expected to miss 18 races in the 2017 season, or 19 if you include the Chinese race which he has already wiped from his mind. A replacement for the absent Spanish driver has yet to be confirmed.
‘Oh no, my mobile phone and iPad and all other means of communication have fallen off my yacht and into the sea,’ said Jenson Button, yesterday. ‘Oh look, here comes a carrier pigeon…’ he added.

Advertising only works when you know what you are looking at, if you need to make diagram to barely come up with a connection like >>75210421 did is not advertising, nobody is seeing marlboro logos when they look at the ducati and the ferrari anymore.
Companies used to do that in the 90s when they thought it worked but all the scientific data already proved that it doesn't, thats why they stooped doing it.
>>75210896

Seems like he worked for Philip Morris", but what exactly is, Philip Morris?

Interesting, so is Tobacco related, let's go on.

Thirdly the McLaren logo is clearly a kiwi and they decided to look back at their roots as a big strong kiwi company.
>>75211471
Could be, but like I said, 99% of the spectators dont see marlboro logos there when they watch racing
When I read petronas or santander on the side of the cars my brain knows know what Im looking at, but during a race when I see the Scurderia logo I never think of Marlboro.
It works in a way I guess, because it gets people who have been watching for a while to talk about how it resembles the marlboro logo, but that is about it.

To add to this, its not like Ferrari only used red and white because of Malboro either, they have had red and white cars well before then. Subliminal advertising doesn't work but Ferrari and Malboro are trying there hardest to make it work.
The only reason anyone would recognise the Malboro logo is because they aren't a casual and know the connection, for your average viewer it's just a triangle thing for Ferrari.

I think it just shows that, historically, and especially from the 60s to the 00s, the fact that F1 advertising was literally dominated by cigarettes reflects the fanbase (to a lesser extent oil companies - I guess it's obvious that motorsport would attract oil sponsors).
I just get this impression of F1 fans as stuffy old men smoking cigarettes.
Energy drinks are of course pretty interesting since they are a very new phenomenon, and show the fact that clearly there must be a younger audience for F1 now; otherwise those companies wouldn't see any value in buying such advertising space.
Another interesting one, I think, is computer related stuff, which started coming in in the late 90s / early 2000s. Compaq sponsoring Williams, Computer Associates sponsoring McLaren, SAP sponsoring McLaren (and the US GP during the mid-2000s if I remember), Acer sponsoring Ferrari, Microsoft sponsoring Lotus and Haas, etc.
I guess that paints a slightly different caricature from the smoking old man - this one would be a 30-40 year old IT professional. And I know a lot of those sorts of guys are F1 fans (my dad for instance).
All very male dominated though isn't it, as I guess would be expected from motorsport, since the fans are almost entirely men.
Another one you could pick out is watches - Tag Heuer sponsoring Red Bull, Casio Edifice sponsoring Toro Rosso, Richard Mille sponsoring Haas, IWC Schaffhausen sponsoring Mercedes, Rolex sponsoring the races, etc.
>>75214266
I think their presence is good - obviously Monster for Mercedes, Red Bull is self-explanatory, and Hype for Force India. It must mean there's a younger fanbase for F1 now, otherwise that advertising wouldn't be viable.

>>75214421
My post has nothing to do with "premium" companies; in fact F1 definitely attracts far more "premium" companies than other sports, because the average salary of the average viewer is almost certainly much higher than things like football.
I was just making a point that F1 advertising was dominated for a long time by cigarette companies, and yes oil companies, but then again oil companies have ALWAYS sponsored motorsport and probably always will, just because of the nature of the sport. I guess it's like football equipment manufacturers sponsoring football teams (Nike, Adidas, etc.)
Since you ask though, here are some "premium companies" in F1: IWC Schaffhausen (Mercedes), Richard Mille (Haas), Johnnie Walker (McLaren).
And here's some "premium companies" in football: Emirates Airline (Arsenal, Real Madrid), Etihad Airways (Man City), Qatar Airways (Barca)
Clearly fewer "premium companies" in football, because like I say, football fans generally aren't a very wealthy bunch. Still. I don't get what your point is - I think you've misinterpreted my post, because many of those F1 sponsors are quite premium I would say (Martini is arguably a little premium, and even Marlboro, Rothmans - they are not budget cigarette brands, they're premium cigarette brands).
>>75215340

Senna was also at least remotely interested.
He stated he was extremely disheartened by the direction F1 was going in related to automated driver assists. Nigel mansell won the championship that year basically because of them, but to prove that he was a class act he won the CART championship, which offered no assists.
Put yourself in Senna's shoes, do you think he felt the 92 season was very fair?
Mansell's CART Championship may have looked different if Michael Andretti hadn't decided to try his luck at Mclaren in 93 with very little testing.

>>75214549
There is variety now but it's slightly different. You're right that these have perhaps declined, except technology, which I think is still relatively strong:
>Telephone companies
I guess they've basically gone, which is interesting (they sponsor other stuff though, e.g. Movistar sponsoring cycling, O2 sponsoring rugby, etc.). Maybe because that market is now less about brand awareness and user adoption, and more about enticing people to switch, since basically everybody is already on a phone plan these days.
>Tech companies
Perhaps slightly less prominent with no title primary sponsorships, but there's still quite a few of them - Microsoft sponsors Haas and Renault, SAP still sponsor McLaren after many years, Kaspersky sponsors Ferrari, Bose sponsoring Mercedes, Computacenter sponsors Renault, Citrix sponsors Red Bull, Epson sponsors Mercedes, Qualcomm sponsor Mercedes
>Airlines
Yes this has fallen away. Emirates sponsored the Japanese GP last year though and might do so again this year.
>Banks
A couple are still prominent - Santander for Ferrari of course. UBS do trackside advertising.
I would say the most prominent ones now are (apart from technology which I mentioned above):
>Energy/soft drinks
Red Bull for Red Bull, Red Bull Cola for Toro Rosso, Monster for Mercedes, Hype for Force India
>Alcohol
Martini for Williams, Johnnie Walker for McLaren and Force India, Chandon for McLaren, Kingfisher for Force India, UB for Force India (UB is a beverage holding company, parent of Kingfisher, owned by the guy who owns Force India), Estrella Galicia for Toro Rosso
>Watches
Rolex sponsor the F1 timing, Tag Heuer for Red Bull, Casio Edifice for Toro Rosso, IWC Schaffhausen for Mercedes, Richard Mille for Haas, Hublot for Ferrari
>Oil companies (will probably always be a staple in all motorsport)
Shell for Ferrari, Petronas for Mercedes, Castrol for Renault and for McLaren, Esso and Mobil (both owned by ExxonMobil) for Red Bull

I never saw the appeal of the old Hockenheim - the straight-chicane combinations are more boring than most tilkedrome designated overtaking spots and I got no enjoyment out of driving it in AC or any other game.
As for the best track, it really depends on the racing series these days, since some series can make certain layouts a lot better than other series can (Spa in F1 for instance only got good again in 2014 after being bad for many years). For today's F1, Suzuka gets my vote, though it's still not great for battling.
I'm in the vast minority on this, but for personal enjoyment when actually driving them myself, I'm plenty okay with more technical tracks, including tilkedromes. Singapore and Abu Dhabi are unironically excellent for me.

As for leddit, I do have an account, but I use it for Mandrama, since there's no serious mandrama discussion here, /asp/ is just a shithole
>>75216931
I guess the appeal of old Hockenheim lies in the fact that it provided variety in terms of circuit, a different challenge for cars and drivers.
It was a proper low-downforce, engine melting circuit which favored the latest of the late brakers.
Nowadays, most circuits are medium downforce, and generic. Tilke (and perhaps the FIA) like to have all types of corners, slow, medium and fast, with the designated long straight and hairpin.
Essentially, it had a character of its own, that set it apart from the rest (and upto the 80s, all circuits for the most part did). Ever since Malaysia (which is actually breddy gud), every circuit has seemed generic.
i really really really like this hamilton
>>75217100
Yeah, I can understand that and it sure as hell doesn't hurt given how much it can mix up the field, but that in itself isn't enough to make it more enjoyable to watch or drive on imo. I think they could've spiced things up a little bit more while still maintaining the low DF focus. Monza, while certainly not a god tier track itself, does at least do that better I think.
>>75217243
I actually thought old Hockenheim provided better racing than Monza, because Monza is narrower in the section from Roggia to Ascari, so it's hard for cars to pass in that area.
Hockenheim was broader, so following and passing was easier.

I don't particularly like Amx but there's no denying he's a hugely talented driver. I had my doubts about him in these 2017 cars but he's proved me wrong many times over. Unless he gets stuck in a Benetton-tier cars like Red Bull, he will win a lot of races and a lot of championships. When he reaches his prime in about 6-8 years from now, if he's in the right car, he will dominate the ever living fuck out of the rest of the grid. I'm not really looking forward to it but I recognize that it probably will happen.
He's the kind of talent that Mercedes and Ferrari would love to snatch up even if Hamilton or Vettel got upset about having him in the same team.

There is no cute anime girls for your country. Is it small? Tell me about your little island a bit. In fact tell the whole group keep us all involved please. Even Nick. Here is a nice shirt. I can not say how comfy it is though. Is a medium ok for you? I thought slim fit would be a little too restricting. Do not suffer just for fashion

I offered to be a stand in dad for him I take the blame pal. Little Berto here was always asking about Azumanga Daioh. He loved that show. He would ask could he ride the dog around like a horse too. But he was just a little too chubby. RIP Armando III - You was a brave dog

Woah steady on there that one fella has his bits out. I will have to ask you remove this picture and/or cover his gentlemenly parts. That small possibly african child may bump into him. The little guy could catch a stone testicle to the eye. Imagine what the news would have to say about this. The outrage & scandal would be immense. Please, please everyone remember to cover your bits. Unless in the shower then you may go naked. A bath is ok too but showering is really the way to go. Do they shower in space? How can say

Saw that yesterday. The split in the main bottom element is a first I believe.
Very """""innovative""""".
It will be years before F1 teams find another place to slot a wing.
I'm gonna get six 2s and Ricky will be WDC.
>>75222208
It looks like it will solve the slight lack of front downforce they've been having. Might be worth 0.1-0.2 seconds on the right track.

how do they keep doing it?
>>75222861
Italian mafia pressure. Haven't seen Ferrari like this for years.
>>75222909
Ferrari still need to work some things out if they are gonna take home the constructors, if they keep leaving Kimi out in the dog house strategy wise they might not win it, I get that that they want to give Vettel priority because they desperately want a championship winner but they need to remember that two cars on the podium is important if they are going win the constructors championship. Bottas isn't gonna spin out every race, and he will eventually get better at handling the car aswell, he was catching Kimi at the end of race in Shanghai. And after Spain + Monaco Redbull will probably start looking alot more threatening for podiums so they can't afford any 2nd car mishaps like they had in China or they'll drop too many points to Mercedes who seem like they will at least have Hamilton on the front row of every grid.
>>75222730
They really don't give a shit about how much downforce they get compared to how effectively they channel the air. The multiple wings actually interfere with each others flow and make the system more draggy on top of increasing the area. But they're great for channeling the air and making the flow more steady, which helps ground effect, engine and rear wings I presume.
That's what I see when I look at that tower of wings anyway. Never read anything about it.
Talking about aerodynamics a few days ago actually made me wonder what the drag is and read an article about it. Their drag coefficient was comparable to a bus in their best case. Incredibly high. Makes Bottas's Baku speed record even more impressive.
