There are so many variables team to team and driver to driver, that there is no real linear data to take to present as a linear bar on the hud. Noone most likely ever presses the pedal to the floor, unlike gas which has clear min max values. Plus all the energy recovery systems working different lap to lap would distort info too.

>that there is no real linear data to take to present as a linear bar on the hud.
Surely there is, just like the data for the throttle.

>Noone most likely ever presses the pedal to the floor, unlike gas which has clear min max values.
But surely the force being applied to the brakes can be measured too

>Plus all the energy recovery systems working different lap to lap would distort info too.
Well I guess they could show a) amount of force being applied to brake pedal, or b) amount of force being applied at the caliper

Surely the teams must record this telemetry? So they can see for themselves how hard the brakes are being applied

What you lads think of quali? Hwl?
>>
>>74876438
Vettel and Bottas both made mistakes on their quickest laps so it probably will be more competitive in the future, but for the races at least Merc have better tyrewear so it'll be fully MWL
>>
Seen the cars now for the first time, kind of disappointed.

How many times has Stroll crashed from testing up to quali?
>>
>Vettel less than three tenths off Lewis
>Ferrari jumping one of the Mercs

It's hardly MWL anymore lads, proper MWL was like 8 tenths to a second

Should b gud
>>
So Bottas was already closer to Hamilton in his first real test in his new car than Rosberg ever was in Australia. This bodes well for the future. Bottas made two clear mistakes which cost him about 0.4sec.

This confirms my suspicions that Bottas is clearly faster driver than Rosberg.

I would honestly take Giovinazzi-Ericsson over Giovinazzi-Wehrlein even though Wehrlein is likely better than Ericsson.

Villeneuve didn't forget to drive, he forgot how to give a shit. Racing, getting to F1, and winning a WDC are probably 10x more emotionally loaded for him than almost any other driver for obvious reasons, then he goes and immediately does well, and wins a title in his second season. F1 is dictated by the car, and he got a good car and won a title with it. It's hard to argue against that, especially with full-psycho mode Schumi as his main rival.

Hill also started in F1 at age THIRTY FOUR. That in itself is a remarkable statistic and then he went on to actually win races and even a championship.

I really don't get this "but they had a good car" thing as a valid discreditation of a championship. If you go with that logic then you might as well discredit almost all championships ever won in F1. Who really won a title in a car that wasn't the best on the grid? Keke yeah but his main competitiors killed themselves or potatoed or got FRENCH'd by renault reliability

If Hamilton is literally unstoppable good why was he so shit that he lost a championship to Rosberg (who was never rated highly by anyone)?

If your championship battle with Nico "literally cannot race in the wet or wheel to wheel" Rosberg is so close that you lose it because your engine blew up once and you had some reliability issues from wich you recovered to the podium from anyway, then WTF are you even doing

The fact that Hamilton didn't win all 3 titles back to back against NICO FUCKING ROSBERG by Suzuka or Singapore is literally unacceptable, unless it is somehow fitting to the narrative that Rosberg is actually a really good driver

People also seem to forget the post-WDC pre-Merc era Hamilton which was total hit and miss to the point that he got outscored by Jensimon Button

RB is basically begging Newey to stay, he's not that committed or so they report around. If that's the case, then he probably oversees the project as a guide of sorts to the team or single engineer who would ideally take his place, and is not fully into using his ideas as a lead in the project.
And if the reports are not completely true, it's not like Newey is the only solution, he might get aero right but chasis set up might be shit.
So far from what we have seen on track it seems that the RB is not very forgiving. Maybe the aero only works in very specific circumstances and it loses grip quickly, or the mechanical grip is dogshit and so the aero can't keep it grounded all the time.

Prediction:

The Mercedes cars will have a superior race pace and nurse the softest tires a lot longer than the Ferraris, but a mid-race safety car will give Ferrari the chance it needs to challenge for the race win.

This will initiate unrealistic amounts of Ferrari hype who will ultimately only be weak challengers to the Mercedes cars

Under right tire and brake temps it shouldn't lock up the instant you step on it 100%, but it's just an instant which is why it's easy to lock up given that you need to also instantly start trailing off the brakes.
Also, in high speed or fast transitions you trail less or none at all, it's more important the slower the corner.

That said, I think it's a fault from FOM, their graphics so far suck, couldn't even get a time table right until late into qualy.
So the driver input data might just be simplified.

It's just a (intentionally) shit sensor, same as the throttle. These are teams with 100s of millions of euros/dollars (just think about how much this is in real world terms), they obviously don't want to broadcast their tech on a global feed.

I'm almost certain both braking and accelerating is controlled or regulated by a computer so considerably that it's basically comparable to ABS or TC, except manages to bypass the current regulation guidelines
>>
>>74877447
Well yes braking is brake-by-wire isn't it. So surely it would be very easy to report that telemetry, just like they can for the throttle.

Doesn't make any sense to me.

Yeah maybe you're right that they're secretive for some reason, but then why not for the accelerator as well.

The accelerator is hardly accurate, or then realistically just requires almost no finesse.

A driver coach who trains/trained a lot of the current drivers (found on Peter Windsor's youtube channel) said that e.g. Kimi's real advantage isn't front end, but throttle control and that he simply has unnatural levels of feel for throttle. I don't think he would be talking about such facts if the cars were full TC slam on the throttle machines

>>>/reddit/
>>
>>74877447
This might be true since they could watch how a driver does a corner better BUT given that the cars are different in the behavior unless they are the same from the team, it makes no sense because each car has a different braking distance and corner exit acceleration/grip.
And if they are from the same team they can just discuss it with the engineers if it's part of the team policy to share.

Another thing that might be the reason is that the mguk is part of the braking system, so the system maybe only shows this telemetry to the FOM system as on/off.

I'm guessing the accelerator is a mix of basic telemetry from what the teams are required to share with some guesstimation

what I mean is that teams might be more defensive about sharing breaking points than acceleration points, because anyone can see where the acceleration zones are. with braking it's a bit more tricky.
>>

It would be meme-worthy but I do think the stories of him being a bit of a cunt are true. Also its not like he's exactly been ultra consistent in FE. Or has any sort of Renault association.

>Buemi (actual Renault connections plus unJUSTING his career harder than any post-RB junior)

Maybe. But we still see the brake point. We just don't see how much of the brake they're applying.
>>
As much as I hate Stroll, O think he will be interesting to watch as an example of what would happen if you tried to turn an everyday person into an F1 driver.
>>
>>74877668
No. Only drivers that have a chance of jumping into F1 this season or the next:

>Nasr
>Sirotkin
>Gutierrez
>Gasly
>Button if Alonso quits and Yakuza threatens his preggo GF
>some pay driver out of fucking nowhere like Maldonado or Haryanto

Yeah, I'd like to get Frijns, Vergne and/or Lotterer into F1 but not gonna happen, unfortunately.

>>74877740
It's going to be either Nasr or Sirotkin. That Brazilian bank said they would give Nasr more money if he got into a better team and Sirotkin has bags of cash from his oligarch masters. Buemi is not gonna happen unless Red Bull pays for it (they won't)

But Palmer is bringing in tons of cash anyway so there's no point booting him out of the seat during a transitional season like this. It's better to wait until the end of the season and replace him with Alonso, Sainz or Perez.
>>
>>74877447
Throttle, yes. ECU and stuff. It's like that in your car too, throttle by wire is almost universal. But there isn't much to control abot the engine, other than not flooring in low gears, ECU's are provided by FIA to prevent mapping like you said.

Braking, no. Front has to be mechanical by the rules while rear is brake by wire. Reason is MGU-K means 160HP worth of independent braking power that can interfeere with actual braking badly, lock the rears and send the car in spin. Since this is something drivers can't control, FIA allowed brake by wire on rears, with a mechanical bypass link to make it safe.

>>
>>74877818

He's not an everyday person. An everyday person couldm't drive the car for 1 lap without spinning

Stroll is an example of what a genuine 100% full daddys money paydriver looks like. His junior career results are now pretty much conifrmed to being down to him driving superior machinery because he had more money.

It's going to be the best cautionary tale of F1 history, hopefully he kills himself on track and FIA will ban paydrivers forever

Bullshit.

Kimi, Vettel, Amx, Ricciboi, Fatjohn, Alonso, and probably half the field could do what he does in those Mercs.

The closest Botox came to finishing behind the lead Merc last season was 45 seconds at Brazil, which was 11th place, and now that nigger is qualifying only .29 seconds off the lead car...which is the other merc.

Villeneuve drove his ass off for years in shit cars, it's not like he just went "ah fuck it I'm done" after winning a championship. When David Dickarse took over BAR and decided to jettison him from his lead driver spot in a team he'd sacrificed years of his career to help build in favour of Button because he was cheaper and British he got pretty disillusioned (of course being British Button's speed that year was massively exaggerated as well)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz2XoSupUxg

Once he took a year off he was pretty much fucked.

Both.

From testing, practice and qualifying, it looks like the McLaren is faster than the Sauber, even though the Sauber probably has a bit more horsepower.

But of course McLaren are going to break down every race so I don't know whether it really counts for much.

And yes Alonso is of course very very good.

The Ferraris from that time period are underrated because of how heavily the team favoured Schumacher. The fact Eddie fucking Irvine took the championship down to the wire in 1999 once he got team priority should tell you something.

In 2000 the Ferrari was on pole 10 out of 17 races, compare that to the previous seasons where McLaren locked out the front row most of the year. (even in '98 Ferrari's biggest problem was being on Shityear tires)

One thing is DATA which F1 metrics has, but then the data extrapolation either misses a ton of other data needed to build a good theory on results, or it's presented in a way which confirms the author's hypothesis.

Williams had the clear best car from 1995 through 1997. 1998, and 1999 were McLaren. Only when they started pulling parts off the 2000 car in the last few rounds of 1999 did the F399 have some pace.
