Why do you feel bad for Honda for literally fucking up 2 coming on 3 years in a row, but loathe McLaren who still held out on them, rather then dumping them and going back to an existing customer engine program.

It's clear that by now, the majority of the problems lie within the engine compartment, not the chassis. McLaren overstate themselves, but it's clear that the chassis isn't the problem when they're picking up 95 place grid penaltyies for engine/ERS failure.

It's doubley poor, because Honda are the only manufacturer in F1 that actually make mass production Hybrids. In fact, I believe that they were the first with the Insight (internationally), beating the Prius by a year or two.

I don't think anyone should feel bad for Mclaren, Alonso, or Button desu.

There were two sides of the argument when Honda was announced as Mclaren's engine supplier for 2017.

On one hand, a good amount of people thought it was a really bad idea to enter an expensive new engine formula. Aside from the fact that the other engines would have a year of on track development when the Honda engine was introduced, IIRC the Honda engine was also only being developed for ~14 months compared to the 2+ years Mercedes spent before they even ran the car. Things were especially worrying after 2014 testing, when it became clear that every engine would have teething problems to overcome and Honda wouldn't be working those out for another year.

On the other hand, some people thought Honda had wiped together a leading engine in 14 moths with absolutely no ontrack running. I seem to remember A LOT of these people shouting down Mclaren-Honda critics on *Reddit*, backing up their claims with the fact that Mclaren-Honda wouldn't have to limit their engine development with engine tokens. A sound argument in theory, but it seems to assume that no F1 team would ever consider developing parts that they knew they wouldn't be able to run immediately on the current year's car. More realistically, I was reading Steve Matchett's "The Chariot Makers" recently and he talks about how Ferrari had drawn up plans to run an extremely complicated car with a unicast engine/transmission and no clutch in the early 2000's (some liberal reading of the traction control rules would've allowed electronic control of the rear differential to decouple the engine from the wheels when necessary) but that was all scrapped because of the one-engine-per-race rule.

If it weren't for their stupid shit Mobil One contracts they would've still been plenty lethal with the Mercedes engine. Considering how Williams performed with it in 2014 and 2015, I find it hard to believe they wouldn't have won races during those years. I'm saying that even though I don't even think the chassis is as good as they say.

If Button had any sort of dignity he would've retired at the end of 2014. It's obvious though, he doesn't, and he just loves to collect that $30 mil/year or whatever off them sweet Honda contracts, so I guess that's good for him.

Alonso did it to himself. Everything we have seen from this man suggests that he is most likely an awful teammate and terrible to work with, so it's no surprise Ferrari were happy to let him go and be an idiot. I have to wonder if they actually showed him anything of value when he went to look at Mclaren again (other than the money). Like, it is widely held that Mercedes showed Hamilton their engine development when he signed with them for 2013 and beyond. Somehow, I doubt they did, so he probably bought the "championship team" meme as it rolled out of Ron's mouth and was overjoyed when it came with massive sacks of yen.

Good idea which I recommended to Hiroshima when he was panicking with the running costs of this place and asked for ideas/opinions. The site could also automatically convert files too large into smaller size. Nobody wants to see some 4 MB blurry garbage mobile phone pictures at 20 mpix resolution for example.

Ferrari have been reserved because they know they got a good car, and now they're flexing with their obvious "please pay attention to how much we are sandbagging" thing. Merc are just cruising, keeping a regular profile as per usual for their pre-season tests.

Sure its surprising that Ferrari got anything decent together at all (remember how many people, myself included, were saying Ferrari was gonna be McLaren tier now that they have a literally who head designer dude and full italia mode) but still, it's not like Merc just threw away the biggest budget on the grid and accidentally produced something that isn't going to be incredibly competitive.
