In 2013 pre-season testing McLaren installed some suspension parts upside down, which gave the car incredible pace due to the car being too low.
Then when they put the suspension parts on the right way, the car was slow.
Fast forward to 2017, and everyone has been blaming Honda for the engine being shit, but what if McLaren has been installing the engine upside down?

I have a bit of a theory about the Finnish circlejerk in F1. And I actually blame Newey.
Newey built a dominant McLaren for 98 and 99 which gave Mika Hakkinen, a driver never in the same league as Schumacher, two titles. Mika then used his influence to talk Ron Dennis into promoting Raikkonen into the Newey rocketships when he retired. Hakkinen has now gotten Bottas promoted too.
None of the above as good as their reputation imo, and it all started with Newey and Hakkinen. Without that 98 McLaren we may never have had the constant Finnish-jerk.

When Lauda threw "two tenths" out there I was kinda worried, but now that I think about it that may be all Bottas needs for the time being.
Realistically I don't expect him winning the WDC or even putting up much more of a challenge than Rosberg did in 2014 and 2015 against Lewis.
However I am hopeful that 2/10ths is enough for 2nd place on the grid, which is all he needs to turn Lewis' inevitable shit starts into potential wins. We've seen time and time again that the Mercedes can bog down on the start, so maybe Bottas can capitalize on a few opportunities and start to build his confidence for a real title fight once he is fully acquainted.

Was thinking about this yesterday.
Most people think Red Bull is yet to add a million aero pieces to their car, but a few tech types have suggested it's a low-drag concept.
The low drag would make a lot of sense, considering the braking zones are tiny, and you can't follow closely in corners now due to the aero (Massa couldn't get past a Sauber that was 1.5sec a lap slower).
Wouldn't surprise me if the Red Bull is solely designed to pass on the straights, and just keep up the best it can in corners, because that will be the only way to pass in 2017.
(It's also going to make starts super important, and the undercut super powerful)

Nah, drag on straight means little for top speed. You still get the majority of speed from engine. But passing will definately be harder now. Cars are wider, faster, the quicker the cars is, the harder it's to pass. And then there's also dirty air from the one that you're trying to pass. F1's are too complex aerowise now, so instead of sleapstreaming air behind opponent is bad for you, and it's gotten even worse in that aspect in from first reports. I'd expect less natural passing, but drs zones can be adjusted on most tracks, so faster cars will still have plenty of chances.
