I also believe this. Wobbler never really provided much pressure, but as soon as he got replaced by Ricky, Vettel turned into a hot mess. The last 2 years in Ferrari have been pretty shaky for him, which is probably caused by Ferrari going full blown I T A L I A. But he sometimes makes dumb rookie mistakes for no real reason. I think if Ferrari has the best car by far (like MWL level) he might crack. But, I don't think Kimi bothers to play mindgames, which actually saves Vettel's chance of getting another WDC.

People are so quick to judge Stroll lmao

I personally agree that he should have done another year of GP2 or something before coming to F1 but Jesus Christ, he is actually trying and occasionally going too far beyond the limits so he spins out. Even Alonso crashed so hard in testing a few years ago that he cum in karts and fucking missed the first race. All of Stroll's crashes have been pretty mild overall and the first one barely counts as a crash, he just went into the gravel. I'd personally hold back judgment until he actually races a few real races in F1.

How do you even crash in T5 though? It's just a slow corner and then you accelerate down the hill full throttle, and these new cars certainly aren't grip limited. Did he just carry too much speed and try to overcorrect to avoid going wide? I dunno I've driven that corner and track like 9999 laps in Forza and F1 games and never had a problem with that particular corner, so I'm pretty much an expert tbqh

Merc look good but maybe not as good and dominant as previously
Ferrari looks extremely solid, reliable, fast (a few tenths slower than Merc with harder compound tires) and more prepared and optimistic than in a few years
RB probably have a good chassis as expected, rumored to be running Renault PU at intentionally low performance levels for whatever reason, would suggest they have a lot more in the bag than the results show so far, probably not a total Merc killer tho
McLaren is a mystery and could probably be good if Honda unfucks their shit

On this I disagree with Lewis.
It sounds nice from an alpha driver perspective of not sharing data with your teammates and being a lone wolf mercenary, but I'm sure there's been times in Lewis' career that he's benefited from another teammate's data. So now you can't go back and act like you never needed data sharing with teammates. and the engineers would never allow it, you need data from both drivers to make the car better.

Lotterer is one.
he's a completely different driver now after Le Mans than he was during his initial F1 stint as a Jaguar reserve.

There are some really good drivers outside of F1 that don't get a shot for whatever political or commercial reasons. Tom Kristensen got snubbed by F1, Audi stole him and he dominated Le Mans. He was clearly an F1-caliber driver.
Marco Wittman as part of his prize for winning his first DTM title got to do an official test with Toro Rosso and did pretty good iirc 6th. But he's an official BMW driver and there's no BMW team in F1 so he had to get the test through a sponsorship connection with Red Bull. but clearly he can do F1 and being a BMW factory driver or not shouldn't matter.

Brawn was saying maybe instead of Williams giving a seat to an inexperienced young driver like Stroll, to take a shot on a more experienced driver that deserves the seat. even if it's someone outside of F1. an LMP driver like Lotterer, fucking Scott Dixon. guys like Josef Newgarden should have a shot at F1.

but you have to kick ass in F3/junior formula immediately or it's hard to move up. and even the lower series like GP3 get really expensive for seats. so you like to think that drivers are moving up the ranks in lower series based on merit by the time they get to F1. the whole system/route to F1 is fucked up. That would be one of the harder things for Brawn to fix. Manor just went bankrupt again, part of it is you need more teams on the grid for more drivers. but all of the F1 teams are broke and hemorrhaging money just to stay in the sport. So there are no seats open for people to move up anyways.

What's the deal between Red Bull Renault and Mario Illien?
Red Bull got in that beef with Renault then they started badging them as Tag Heurer and putting Aston Martin logos on their car. and now Toro Rosso is thinking about doing the same thing and rebadging their power units.
So are Red Bull using a Mario Illien custom Renault engine rebadged as Tag Heurer? Or is it the same as the Renault engines the Enstone team is using? Red Bull threatened to split up from Renault but they ended up still using Renault engines anyways and just give it a different name?

McLaren have huge resources, and unlike Ferrari are generally competently run. Having a dedicated engine SHOULD also be an advantage, but we all know how that's played out so far.

I reckon people have written off the 2017 Honda too quickly - yes, they have an oil issue, but a few laps with the engine presumably turned right down is very little indication of how the engine is looking.
