Scotland have to be licking their lips for England

They've been behind with atleast 15 minutes to go in all their games except Wales where it was 5 which they should have lost and they were massively let off

Except yesterday. England are showing up about 20 minutes each game and winning. An 80 minute performance and Scotland will be annihilated. Not that it will be an 80 minute performance, but if the only chance Scotland have to cling on to is England playing inconsistently then so be it. Also Scotland away from murrayfield are a bit shit

you're talking as if scotland have been playing lights out in all of their games.
There are areas in all three of their last games they need to improve on: ireland game we flagged badly in the second half were slipping off tackles and made some poor kicking, didn't show up for the second half besides the last 10 minutes or so. France game scrum was overpowered and we played down to france (think this is mainly down to the halfback pairing, a better approach such a the one the irish took would have won us that game but russell is still learning with his game management/kicking game) wales game we were getting beaten at the breakdown until watson came on and we were guilty of some poor kicking and other errors that let the welsh off the hook once or twice.
Have scotland put together the most complete performances of this 6nations so far? Yes.
Do we still have huge room for improvement? Definitely.
Too easy to dismiss scotland's chances if england put in an "80 minute performance" when nobody in this tournament has put one together.

i.e. They're already running pretty much at full potential. England, unquestionably, are not. Scotland may be ten points up with ten minutes to play and England WILL find another gear and they WILL win.
Don't get me wrong, this is Scotland's year: they will finish third.

3-4 days of the week I enjoy and look forward to work, if I didn't enjoy my job I would retrain or move jobs or train so I can move to a job I think I would enjoy more.
I work so I can fund my hobbies and to save up so I can retire in comfort. My grandad didn't save or consider retirement until far too late and he didn't have a retirement lifestyle that I want. My parents have saved and planed for retirement and they look on track to keep their current lifestyle when they do eventually retire.

So I would say a healthy ballance of a version of working to live and living to work.

I would have said Glasgow Connacht was a big one

I think Leinster-Scarlets actually has some kind of history to it, to do with Llanelli RFC. They were talking about it on Sky Sports. There's also some kind of schools exchange program there.

I think Connacht-Glasgow is more of a rivalry. In the mid-to-late 2000s they were usually battling with Borders to stay off the bottom of the table. Glasgow started building at it before Connacht but they both climbed up the table using expansive, attacking rugby, winning a title one after the other. They had two brilliant games at the end of last year to decide who'd get to the final, and their game at the start of that season was brilliant too.

Warriors had Kellock, Connacht had Swift, Warriors have Hogg, Connacht had Henshaw. They're also both partial to pace-babby try-machine meme players with Connacht having had Carr, Healy, and Adeolokun, Warriors having Matawalu, van der Merwe and Thom Evans. Next year Glasgow's head coach will be Chiefs head coach Dave Rennie. His assistant at Chiefs, Kieran Keane, will be coaching Connacht.

I didn't mean for the post to be that long at first. Just kept noticing similarities.
>>
>>74436949
I've just been mentioning the ones that I have felt we have played a lot in what felt like important matches since I satarted supporting them, and the big three to me where those I mentioned.

I only really got a sense for connacht glasgow last season.

I think I'm stuck in this stupid mentality whereby a club has to be successful/good to have a rivalry which patently insn't the case.

They need to bring back super 10s as a champions league format. The trouble is though, qld and nsw have way too much history as teams that a lot of people wouldn't like them being split in to any increment smaller than that wouldn't be received well, and the local club comps aren't strong enough anymore due to professionalism. If Australia had a strong local comp it would be a different story. Blame league for dodging WWII I guess.

The problem is that NZ teams are way above everyone else. If all three big countries had equally competitive teams, you could make them play two-legged season in a AUS-NZ pool for 18 regular season games, of which the best 4 would continue to play-offs against ARG-SA pool winners. In this format NZ would butcher all aussie teams in years to come, the current format is protecting non-NZ teams from italianization, eg. making a habit of losing continuously.

The bestest format to internationalize the competition would be two pools of 10, of which the best four advance to play-offs, this is if other countries would catch-up with NZ teams.

I'd love to see an African pool with 5 SA teams, 2 argie teams, Perth and a French team based on the island of La Réunion. Pacific pool could include all kiwi teams, the remaining four aussie teams and an islander selection based in Suva, Fiji. Sunwolves ought to be trashed, honestly.

I was actually staying in France last weekend and it seemed to me that the French people were bizarrely convinced of a victory in Dublin before the game. I watched it in a bar as the only Irishman. They were all laughing their backsides off for 20 mins then silence followed by whinging followed by a quiet peeved departure. The French are serial moaners and and are incapable of apology or acceptance of failure. They are old fashioned and stuck in their miserable ways. The proof is last summer when the country was in a state of depression with transport strikes ( a lot less frequent in our airports and train stations ) and terrorist attacks until the Euros and the Irish arrived to bolster the competition and received much praise for helping make the tournament great. So surely we are better candidates for hosting the 2023 world cup?

Ireland is smaller thus easier to get from stadium to stadium. The atmosphere is immeasurably friendlier and more fun ( at their own admission ) and we are a lot less likely to have bombs or horrific strikes to ruin it all. Plus we are a higher ranked better team that have never hosted the World Cup before. It's our time. France is a beautiful country but as for the French people..
>>
>>74442336
You have 3 stadiums with a capacity above 25k (seated)
>>
>>74442336
>>74442372
Was it in Paris? Having lived in Paris I agree it's a shithole people-wise. Centre-Southern people are much nicer. I also agree that Ireland should host the RWC as France has organized a shitton of events like the Euro cup, Handball WC etc. But you need at least 3 stadiums over 50 000 and other 3 over 30 000 minimum. France has 14 stadiums of a capacity over 30 000.

It's Steve Hansen and his shitty selecting that's seeing our players leave. That and the NH clubs are praying on talent that haven't even reached the All Black picture. Rugby is less popular because you have to pay through the teeth to have SKY and watch it live. The average kiwi wont stream it. I think the format is too big and goes too long for the casual fan. That dickhead Steve Tew is a fucking cancer to Super Rugby. Prick wants to make it bigger too.

>>

No, RWC regulations oblige seating seats. The main reason for bad capacity of Irish stadiums is that their official capacity is 1 000 000 when standing places are counted in, and Poor-tatolanders actually are content that way

I considered tipping the force but I can't think of a single position on the field where the reds don't have them crushed.

If the force had McCalmann and Hodgson I think that would nudge them ahead, but as is they are weaker in every position. They only lead in is number of dads, 23 - 24.

>>74456215
>the reds got refballed to a win last week

In what sense? The reds spent 15 minutes down a man, left about 10 points on the field from poor kicking and otherwise completely dominated the sharks in run meters. I was at the game so I can't say that I saw everything on the telecast, but nothing sticks in my mind as even vaguely controversial.

Isa moving to Toulon is making me question the wisdom of the whole jags experiment desu

Argentina were developing really nicely already with most of their players in France and England. The euro domestic season is a horrible grind but is it really fucking up their form and fitness any worse than the insane amount of travel they have to do for super rugby? Not to mention they make less money and the timezones for their away games are mostly shit for the argie domestic audience

Putting them in the RC was a great move but SR might have been a mistake

I think Heaslip plays more like a 7 if you're going to put him anywhere but 8. He's not destructive enough for 6
>>
>>74457756
I would like to disagree with you but I can't.
>>
>>74458402
to be honest the whole point of the SuperRugby is to have an all-ARG squad testing itself against powerful opposition. having players playing in different euro teams made them weak when they played for Pumas since they had zero chemistry. Now we can have a team that plays together much more frequently and against great opponents. travelling to south africa, australia and new zealand is no biggie, 12 hours on direct flight. i've done it a couple of times.

of course being in the RC is huge but getting a franchise in SR is also a big step for us. people here are doing the best they can to hold on to that franchise so we can have some continuity.

From an audience point of view it's the same, few people (and i'm being generous) here watch the national rugby league, while a lot of people that aren't interested in rugby watch the Pumas and now the Jaguars. Rugby is far from being a popular sport here but having a team that you can root for is a big help. A lot of people stay up to watch the Jags.

He was probably top 3 blindsides in the world 2 or so seasons ago. But the combination of a coach that doesn't pick him, and over-aggression leading to yellows has fucked him up. Still a very good club player though, and well suited to NH rugby.
>>
>>74458427
>>74458511

Get another Super Rugby franchise. I've seen people say they just don't have the depth for it but it won't be hard to be competitive against the Bumwolves and Kangs. Also will generate interest with some local derbies

Ensure wildcard spots. There are some ridiculously talented players not getting picked. Isa and Imhoff to name a few. Start with maybe 5/6 wildcard spots and over the years water it down
>>
>>74458683
Need to wait one more year 2bh before pushing for another team. There is a lot of unrest with the current super rugby format and what teams are currently involved.
>In terms of cutting teams from Super Rugby, Marinos played his cards close to his chest but admitted that they have been looking at formats with fewer teams.
>Even though expansion still appears to be the long term goal, Sanzaar are starting to talk of cutting teams from Super Rugby.
>The new franchises of the Sunwolves (Japan) and Jaguares (Argentina) are not under threat while New Zealand’s five teams are also understood to be safe.
Sadly SA and Aus are roadblocking all pushes to improve Super Rugby because it doesn't act in the interest of their weaker regions.
>Under the current confusing geographical format South Africa are guaranteed two home play offs and Australia one regardless of how many points their teams earn in the overall standings which is why they are reluctant to give this benefit up – even if it does give the tournament more credibility.

The problem with Argentina is that it's one game. A long flight for one game. When travelling to South Africa you usually play 2 - 3 games, and when South African teams fly to NZ or Aus they play 2 - 3 games. The fuck they were thinking with Yapin, I don't get it.

He's made the least metres of any starting number 8 in the tournament, even Strauss who is injured. A few meme tackles against England is all he has.

Bear in mind most other countries are using their 8 to field kicks, we don't. Cracknell is a big carrier anyway, and Faletau has really struggled for form
If you see Ospreys, Davies throwing flat passes to Cracknell running at speed has been shredding defenses all season

I know it's usually the hooker that throws the ball into the lineout, but are there any non-hookers that currently do it at Test level? Can't seem to find any examples.
>>
>>74460660
Not any more. It used to be that the winger threw it in, but having the hooker do it is just the best option really. They're too short to be a lineout option anyway and they don't take someone out of the backline to do it.
