Lets bring in their embarrassment and the fact they have no brains or leadership into this thread
>>
>>74400713
What happened?
>>
>>74400905

Italy didn't form a ruck so could just jump around behind the offside line (which obviously didn't exist) and stop England from quickly recycling.

The dumb fucks had no idea what to do and just stood there like idiots. Now the English fans think they've been wronged somehow but they don't really understand why so they're just autistic screeching.
>>
>>74400971
Don't forget when they had to be manshamed by the ref

>>
>>74400905
Italy didn't engage in the Ruck so the English players stood there clueless with their head up their arse not knowing what to do when they should have picked the ball up and ran through with it

In the first 10 mins of the second they copped on to what to do but then became clueless again and complained when the Italians continued not engaging in the Ruck
>>
>>74401037
Every single ruck, Englel players literally asked the ref to tell them what to do
>>
>>74401037

Yeah. Italy were winning at halftime after they successfully did the same thing about 20 times.

Eddie Jones obviously had to carefully explain to England at halftime what was going on. The English players kept telling the ref they didn't understand the rules.
>>
>>74400809
What's the context? I missed all the stuff so far.
>>
>>74401037
Apart from the start of the second half yes

It was class watching "2" England Captains asking the ref what to do

>>
>>74400702
Obviously just butthurt but there is a flake of truth in it.
Rugby is an imperfect game, originally designed as way for posh boys to touch each other and get out all homo-erotic feelings masquerading as a game.
The rules are imperfect and unbalanced, leaving the game open to types of play that within the rules but don't align with how the game is meant to be played.
In the day of the gentleman's game played by posh queers this wasn't an issue as there was a shared decency between opponents and spectators. disagreements resolved with a handshake and a cuddle.
Now in the modern age, world rugby has rushed to add rules that try and have a game free from exploitation through playing within the rules but not to the spirit of the game.
Gone are the days of handshakes.

I didn't watch it, because filthy phone poster.

So Italy makes a tackle, then no one contests the ruck, and the tackler rolls away.

Then what happens? Was it just that it allowed all 15 to defend?
>>
I need to see what Italy were doing to fuck with the breakdown. Sounds interesting.
>>
>>74400905

There was a great moment when the ref was having to explain to the England team what the rules of rugby were. But obviously most of their fans don't know the rules either because their knickers are all twisted at italys tactics.
>>
>>74401747
Yes. Italian players got behind the ball and man marked potential recievers
>>
>>74401747
>>74401755

>make a tackle
>immediately get out of the breakdown, meaning it's just a tackle, not a ruck
>since no ruck, no offside
>wander around the edge of the ruck and get in the way of the scrumhalf making any passes
>>
>>74401747
No because there was no ruck formed there was no offside line so Italian players could go 'offside' around the ball and just block the scrumhalf from passing.
It was pretty funny
>>

>>
>>74401912
There is no offside line. The way I'm conceiving of it (and I might be wrong, but I don't think I am) is like it was an offload, but instead of being nearly instantaneous, it took 5+ second to get to the scrumhalf.
>>
>>74401977
They are taking pride and being stubborn in their lack of understanding of a rule that anyone who pays half attention to world rugby would understand. Basically exposing their shocking lack of rugby literacy.

I would be more sympathetic, but it's hard when English players, coaches and fans are all complaining when they have no reason. They won comfortably with the bonus point, there is no need for all this complaining because your team wasn't as infallible as you wanted to believe

moderate to high level of importance, varies on position and level of lay
1-8 pretty damn important
9-10 not really all that important, smaller peopler generally prefered
12-13 need to9 be fairly big usually
11, 14, 15 can be small enough or big but only rarely massive see nadolo or lomu

If Dunbar returns then he could make a strong case for 12 and Laidlaw is still well within a shout for 9, his injury may fuck him though

>>
>>74402147
Props are 110kg + and normally average height
Locks are tall fuckers usually over 110kg as well
Loose forwards come in all shapes and sizes
Hookers can vary a bit but are usually pretty similar in build to a prop
Some backs are big and heavy some are small
Half back is always a little midget
>>
>>74401874
>I used to think James Haskell was alright
Why?

First off, he's a dirty cunt who tackles late so often he asked World Rugby to stop showing slow-mo replays of his foul play because it isn't fair.
http://www.the42.ie/james-haskell-tv-replays-2648360-Mar2016/

Secondly, he engages in bizarre activities where he cross-dresses, abuses younger teammates with beer bottles and threatens innocent barstaff who try to stand up to him.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3863020/England-rugby-star-James-Haskell-held-court-sexually-degrading-boat-trip-party.html

Every team has a dirty bastard that they love. Ireland have Healy, England have Hartley. South Africa usually play 8 of them. Willie John McBride is a legend of the game and it's almost all he's remembered for. Haskell isn't one of these though. He's a vain, cringey twat and probably a closet case. I'd hate him even if he was on the team I supported.

Healey is not really dirty. He's a good lad. Never hurt no one.
>>
>>74402284
BTW little midget is still around average height or a touch shorter and still around 90kg
>>
>>74402192
I like Laidlaw, but Murray is head and shoulders above his competition for it. His boxkicks are so perfect it's like they're laser-guided. His ruck work is almost always at the right speed, his passes are perfect and he's a serious running threat. I hate Munster and stubbornly wanted Reddan to be the 9 for years, but he's world class.

The only area Laidlaw is ahead is place-kicking. I'd probably have him on the bench.
>>
At least now that England are winning we can all unite in hating them once more.

It makes a nice change from having to argue with the micks every day.

>>
>>74402544
Average height is around 177 cm
I guess I was a bit off in weight by a bit, had more of a look and 85 ish seems more normal

But you are right there are always exceptions to generalisations and that the less professional you go the less size matters.
>>
N. England should repeat the same italian straegy against England

>>
Jesus Christ, go to the comment sections on English websites. They're absolutely ass-devastated at Italy using a perfectly legitimate tactic. Australia did it against Ireland once or twice and our commentary team was full of praise for Pocock's game intelligence. Meanwhile, the best 8 forwards in England don't know how rucks work and somehow it's the Italians' fault.

Some samples
>italy conclusively proved that they do not warrant a place in the championship
>Whether it's right or wrong, it is sad that Italy feel the need to do this, to simply clutch at straws. I'm sure coaches worldwide have the knowledge to do similar, but don't because it isn't right. Everyone dislikes non contested scrums, so surely dislike this too.
>Legal it may have been but it does the sport no favours
>Well that tactic could ruin rugby!
>What a disgrace at a time Italy are looking for friends to keep them in the 6n,, they did themselves no good at all today, everyone knows that these tactics were not against the laws of the game but were way out the spirit of the game and the total disrespect that they should against England I hope that they are thrown out of the 6n for total disrespect of the game of Rugby....

I feel like the perfect use for the meme defence is when the opposition are on your 5m line. You have the space to set up your line a bit behind the tackle so you don't get pulled in and can stick blokes in the passing channels to stop it going wide. Would completely shut down attacking in the 22.

I feel like that would be where it's most useless. You're going to have to commit more men to guarding around the ruck to cover for the memers running about in the channels and you're relying on them shutting everything down. And you have to be able to communicate this organisation play after play.

I think it requires a coordination that doesn't really work in those frantic defensive moments on your own tryline

All the D has to do is sit half a yard back, just out of arm's reach. You can stack up on the ruck as well because you don't need any wide defenders

>>
>>74408623
Ah, so you're one of the absolutely buttshattered English lads having a good old moan about how the rules need to be changed because the English forward pack didn't know about a tactic that's been around for about 3 years?

>>
>>74408942
Right, firstly - we won the fucking game and comfortably aswell. We figured it out after 30 mins (which is admittedly long) but still quick enough to destroy italy.

Secondly, you cannot possibly say that this is good for the game. It turns the game into a boring pick and drive slog. Something must be done about it. I don't give a fuck if it's been around for 3 years, it needs to be removed
>>
>>74409248

>Nice damage control
>Based on some truth.

>Had to rely on bench to win the game

Yeah. There's a pretty good analysis of it here - http://www.the42.ie/analysis-chiefs-super-rugby-tactics-2013507-Mar2015/

Tbqh, I think it's the best way to use it. Why risk it when the ball is anywhere near your tryline? Just use it to put pressure on the scrum half occasionally

imo they should just make it abudantly clear that players from the team in possesion can pull a player in or hold onto a player to make it a ruck
that will make the tactic more niche and harder to pull off while still keeping it viable if the team's execution and coordination are on point
>>

I mean you could refine the move by positioning a forward about a foot behind where the ball is to stop and pick and drivers, sort of like a third pillar, but then the team in possension could maul it, but right on the line is probably too risky as someone said.
Imo it's a neat little rule that should be used occasionally like when pocock id it vs ireland
>>
>>74409415
Yeah. Agreed.
>>74409435
If I had it my way, it would have been stopped when it was in the lower leagues. It's worldrugby's fault that it's taken till now to have the conversation.
>>74409454
Yeah and England did work it out by the 30th minute mark, that's why you saw the pick and drives. It's just that rugby has made such a big effort to move away from that style of play, that keeping this rule seems very backwards

Zebo on par with nowell or daly, nowhere near thier level mate, zebo is average.
He can cover wing, outside centre and full back all to a decent level, you can't shirk at that kind of versatility. He'd be one of my first men of the plane if I was selecting.
If zebo was white people would see him for the average player he is, his success is some warped form of affirmitive action.

He's a good coach when he gets to set the tune, but when he's dancing to someone else's beat, or he has a team that can't execute it's will against another team he is very limited. He's also renowned for not knowing shit about forward play so it's not surprising that's where the controversy arose.

Quick Supe/rug/by rundown on the weeks good and important matches

Highlanders v Chiefs
Absolute classic smash and grab style game from the Chiefs. Set up well on defence and took opportunities. Seu, Lowe and Messam had big games. Highlanders not their usual clinical selves but will no doubt improve in the coming weeks. Watch highlights

Stormers v Bulls
SA teams to play more expansive rugby is not a meme anymore. Stormers up 24-0 at half time with a high tempo run from anywhere game not seen in a long time. Bulls rusty away from home but by no means looked lost, built some solid attack themselves. Great quality tries with two top class packs. Watch the highlights.

Rebels v Blues
Blues looking scary on attack against poor opposition. West was decent but against bigger teams could get rattled. Pulu and Ioane dangerous. Rebels not gonna challenge anything except bottom of the table. Watch highlights

Crusaders v Brumbies
Very sloppy game from both sides and the Crusaders pack surprisingly outmuscled at times. Many people worried about their lack of punch on attack and it showed. Mounga out for 6 weeks could cost them badly. Skip this one

Yeah, because Joubert had literally been getting it wrong the whole game. He made a decision right at the start that Scotland were winning the scrum and then refer to that rather than what was actually going on. The above picture is a scrum that Scotland got a penalty on and scored 3 from.

Scotland were obscenely lucky to be as close as they were at the end - 9 points from very questionable scrum penalties.

That's because any team that isn't full of total pies knows how to play around it.

Alright, who's actually paying attention to the Pro12?

In the top 4, Leinster, Munster and Ospreys look like sure things, with Scarlets and Ulster pushing for the last spot. A good run of form after they get their internationals back should see Glasgow in the mix too.

In the race for sixth place, those teams don't look as safe as they used to. Connacht and Cardiff are closing in and Connacht have a game in hand against Zebre. If they can win with a BP they're just 2 points behind Glasgow. If Warriors don't hit the ground running after getting players back or get distracted by competing in the European quarter-finals, they could slip out of automatic qualification for the Champions Cup. 7th and 8th place teams go in a play-off against English and French sides to get into the Champions Cup.

As for the other teams, Edinburgh and Dragons are another distance behind in points but aren't that easy to beat at home. Two or three teams above them will drop points away. Shitalians are shit.

Two schools of thought. Also his defence has never been the best.

>the last place getter in fantasy is unironically winning 'bru

Really propagates action potentials through the opening of voltage-gated channels on the soma of the neuron lads.

Is tipping, dare I say it, for filthy casuals?

What sort of volvo do you drive Ben?

Round 1 means nothing. Championship teams like CasuallyElite stand up when it matters most: at the end of the season.

Let's get this bad boy to 500 lads.

>>

I'm not winning I'm fat too casual. Top 5 again though.
>>
lads my fantasy team is INCREDIBLY muscular
who else /bothsaveas/ here?
>>
>>74427978
Far rather than fat.
>>
>>74427979
Ardie is a muscular choice but Julian can go through periods of anonymity like the final third against the Weebs and given there are multiple kicking outside backs (skuxx, Jono lance) there are points to be found elsewhere for less money.
>>
>>74427978
>>74427985
Who's winning if not you? Someone told me you won it last year so how are you a casual?
>>
>>74427979
How did you manage smug welsh players in?
>>
>>74427992
I have skuxx Dmac as well actually, but he didn't kick in the Highlanders game which was odd
>>
>>74427979
Just looked, Scott higganbotham actually did better than ardie which I find surprising. Higgers took a lot of kick offs so he would have got easy meters from that, but more importantly played the whole game.

JFC that was harder to find than I though. Here is last year's standings.
Yourdad won the RC
I was bottom 5 for both the internationals.
I will probably do about as well as last year maybe a touch better now I actually know how it works. I just expect some people to step it up as there was some absolutely shocking picks. I'm aiming for the top but I don't put too much effort into it so top 5 is good enough for me to be happy with.
