Football Manager is fucking shit. I'm fed up of the cult status this game has. It's garbage fucking tier shit and it gets a free pass because it is literally the only game of its kind. It's unique status within the genre (which panders to argubly the largest market in the world, football fans) and the fact that it clearly tries really fucking hard is not enough to mask the fact that this game is among the worst games in the world.

People act as if this is an accurate simulation of football, as if in real life you tell a player to be an advanced playmaker, and another to be a ball winning midfielder as if that is how a player is directed, how formations are formed or how a team forms cohesion and discipline. Since they've introduced roles (and subsequently made them literally the most important facet of tactics) the game has been utter shit and yet no one seems to care. Everyone seems quite happy to suck Miles and SI's dick as if this game is a fucking farcical representation of the sport.

It fucking sucks that this game is given the credit it gets because the truth is that the potential is there. The introduction of "roles" completely trashed the game and has steered it towards the realm of fantasy rather than simulation (despite it getting praise for being the latter).

TL;DR Roles killed the game. This is a retarded fucking game that uses your love of football (or spreadsheets) to get you to play.

Name another which is on a comparable level to FM. The hockey and baseball game are literally only played by fans of the sport who also happen to also be stat-nerds (because they're shite games when held up to the scrutiny of everybody else). FM transcends that and is one of the most played games in the world and it does not deserve even 10% of its player base. It's truly pathetic how much of a pass this game gets.

Fair enough. It may not be the only type of its genre (although certainly the only successful of its genre) but it still doesn't change the fact that this game has massively simplified itself over the years and has become a fantasy game based on football rather than a simulation of reality.

The truly sad part is that this continuously simplified tactical approach has destroyed all the potential the game had. I don't doubt that the tripfags here will remain loyal to the game (how could you not after dedicated so much of your life to it?) but it doesn't change facts. This game is a shell of its former self and roles were what killed it.
