Look up John Urschel. NFL lineman and currently has a 4.0 at MIT in his mathematics PhD. He has more physical gains than you would ever want to achieve and is also doing his PhD at the rank 1 school in the US for math.

I spend 2 hours tops at the gym, 4-5 days a week. Sure, I could be sitting there at my computer learning more math, but if it isn't relevant to my current career path then why would I? I don't need to go learn a bunch of shit I'll never use. If it wasn't covered in my degree program, and if I never use it, then I guess I don't need it.
