> An angel came down for a meeting of the American Philosophical Association. Greeting the philosophers, the angel offered to answer a single question for them. Immediately the philosophers set to arguing about what they should ask. So the angel said, "Alright, you figure out what you want to ask. I'll come back tomorrow." A
> Some of the philosophers favored asking conjunctive questions, but others argued persuasively that the angel probably wouldn't count this as a single question. One philosopher wanted to ask "What is the best question to ask?", in the hope that some day another angel might make a similar offer, at which point they could then ask the best question. But this suggestion was rejected by those who feared that no such opportunity would arise and did not want to waste their only question.
> Finally, the philosophers agreed on the following question: "What is the ordered pair whose first member is the best question to ask, and whose second member is the answer to that question?" Satisfied with their decision, the philosophers awaited the angel's return the next day, whereupon they posed their question. And the angel replied: "It is the ordered pair whose first member is the question you just asked, and whose second member is the answer I am now giving." And then he disappeared.

In this case, the lower track would be the correct path of the trolley to kill the least amount of people
In fact, you end up saving 1/12 of a life
>>8444266
well
so long as the trolly can run infinitely, and an infinite supply of people to run over can be supplied, then you would choose the left track because muh -[math]\frac{1}{12}[/math] but since it definitely fucking can't on both counts, then you would choose the right track.
This is because for real numbers within the cardinal series [math]\aleph_0[/math] the sum of all people on the right track can be proven to be lesser than the equivalent operation of the left track.

An engineer and a mathematician are in a lecture on higher dimensional Rubik's cubes.
To start with they talk about the book Flatland and what we might seem like to beings living in 2D space, the mathematician scribbles something down on a piece of paper and sits back and relaxes while the engineer gets comfortable with the idea of what's coming up.
Then the lecturer talks about normal 3D cubes and the general steps for a beginner solve. The mathematician sits back and thinks of his collection of cubes at home while the engineer focuses himself and starts working.
The lecturer then moves onto 4D cubes, how they can represented on a computer screen and the similarities between the solving methods. The mathematician is starting to get more excited at this point while the engineer is having to focus harder to keep up.
Things get worse for the engineer as they move onto 5D cubes. The mathematician writes a few more lines of notes while the engineer's working fast as to not fall behind.
Ingeniously, 6D cubes are represented using a fractal like structure that allows them to still be represented on a computer screen. The mathematician smiles and nods his head while the engineer is falling to pieces with not much left to give.
Finally the lecturer reveals there aren't any new methods of showing a 7D cube, because you can use the same fractal as for the 6D cube. The mathematician rolls his eyes and lets out a small groan as the trick is revealed. The engineer briefly goes deep inside himself but has to give up. He turns to the mathematician, swallows his pride, wipes the semen off his lips and asks what the lecture was about.
[spoiler]Bonus alternate ending:
The engineer asks the mathematician,
"Are you fucking getting this?"
"It's not too tough to visualise" replied the mathematician,
"First I just imagine n dimensions, then set n equal to 7"[/spoiler]

Multiplication and division are in fact the same essential operation in math. Division by x can be rewritten as multiplication by 1/x. Any time you divide by a number you could have multiplied by a different number to get the same result. I'm a math dummy and even I know that.
And in biology division doesn't always lead to cell multiplication, for instance, the creation of polar bodies during meiosis.

Not that anon, but if we really want to get into the details of it, multiplication is an operation defined on numbers (whether the reals, rationals or really, any field), then multiplication takes two of the elements in that field and returns another.
Division is then defined as multiplying by the inverse of the second operand, since zero does not have an inverse, one cannot divide by it since division requires the existence of an inverse for the divisor.
