Clearly technology has and is going in the direction of using machines, robotics and AI to do whatever those "superpowers" would enable us to do instead. It's easier, cheaper, and safer for all involved.

But sure, within several generations of VR, we will definitely get to experience shit like what you described. Just not our here in the real world.
