A male who makes an effort to fuck as much as he can, but takes enough time to consider the consequences of each fuck to avoid catching an STD or otherwise finding himself in an unsafe situation (such as being attacked by the female's mate) will be able to continue his fucking ways for much longer and spread his seed to many more females in the long run.

Consider the Common Side-Blotched Lizard: it has three conveniently color-coded sorts of males that follow different reproductive strategies. The orange-throated sultans claim large harems and fuck everything that moves. The blue-throated husbands find and carefully guard a single wife (and make really sure she's female). The most common type rotates from generation to generation. If the current population is mostly sultans, the traps win. When there are loads of traps around, the husbands reproduce the most successfully. When the husbands are the most common, the sultans rush to claim all the wives first.

Considering that the dominant culture of Earth was publicly monogamous during the period of its ascension, I'd say there are some clear evolutionary disadvantages for a human male to be promiscuous. Maybe not so much on an individual level, but if being promiscuous degrades his community, his offspring will find themselves in a weak position.
