I totally agree with the first premise, thoug not the second. Humans routinely speak about how we would identify higher life on this or that planet. From finding signs of material which cannot naturally occur to literally dozens of other methods. And this assumes the aliens don't overlap enough with us to eyeball something very obvious, like satellites or radio transmissions. They'd very likely grok us as higher life, or at least the closest thing to what they consider that in this ecosystem. Math serves as the best method of meaningful communication we have beyond that point.

Any aliens that come into contact with us would have to be outside of our solar system as there clearly is no well-developed life on planets inside out solar system (beside us).

I hate that meme more than any other meme of any profession ever. congratulations you have the most basal human ability of empathy, if someone dying is presented to you, you want to make them not die, you're a hero.
