today i'm gonna show u a tasty way to cook potatoes! idk if i should be calling this scalloped potatoes or potatoes au gratin (it's got lots of cheese on top hence the gratin part) or just something like cheesy potato bake but these always disappear pretty fast when i do this...

basically u want a couple lb of potatoes, salt and pepper, butter, milk (or cream), an egg and cheese, at least one kind of hard cheese (pecorino romano in this case), and soft cheese is ok too (i had some brie, cream cheese and a chevre style goat cheese)

get ur oven preheated pretty hot. i put it on 400f 375 might work well too. u want it hot enuff to brown the top of it

butter not oil, i didn't use cheddar and there are no human bodily fluids (but cow's milk obv)
u don't have to peel ur potatoes i don't bother. slice them not too thin not too thick, about 1/8 inch slices, cube ur butter and soft cheese, grate about a cup of hard cheese, beat the egg well and mix in a cup of milk in it and whisk well until it's foamy
melt about a tbsp of butter in ur pan, if ur using that, or u can use a baking dish if u prefer but put a little oil or melted butter in the bottom, then layer half the potato slices

then add half the cheese and cubed butter, salt and pepper... and then repeat w/ the other half of the potatoes

then add the milk and egg mixture to the pan and it's ready to go in the oven! u wanna bake it for 25-30 minutes until it's nicely golden brown on top!
after it's brown let it sit for at least 10 minutes before cutting it or it will be soupy! that's basically it.
really simple and easy the key is just to use tasty cheeses

also here is a plate w/ veal scaloppini, gravy (it's like a veloute sauce, roux + stock basically... i used chicken stock) and some of the cheesy potatoes. it's dark out so sorry the lighting is garbage also i think my phone is drunk so the pictures are blurry.

i usually make something like a bechamel sauce, add cheese and then bake it until it's firm enough. to my taste. if u want it soupier no need to bake... i don't see why u couldn't add saffron but it seems pretty silly. might be tasty tho..

i always use kosher salt cuz it has a large grain size unlike the small grained salt so it's easier to sprinkle a pinch over food evenly. coarse sea salt is fine too tho
