It's more about how the contract is carried out. On one hand, if the guy makes 100k a year and the wife was a stay home mother, of course she is going to get a sizable alimony, she has no job to immediately fall back on, so it makes sense. It's when you have two individuals who both work, let's say they both make 100k for arguments sake, and the court still grants the same alimony as the single mother that is frustrating. In the second scenario the woman also has a career so the split is not as financially devastating, there was no need for the huge alimony sum.
