>29 year old robot
>never talk to anyone
>live alone
>have had the same shitty flip phone from like 2005 that somehow still under my mom's family plan
>no texts messages or calls except to therapy offices
>therapist wants me to get a smartphone and my own plan so I can actually be apart of the world
>trying to look up smartphones and plans
>realize im retarded when it comes to technology, don't know what the fuck I'm looking at, everything is so complex, convoluted and expensive
>just want a phone that can play mp3s, text, and send calls, internet browsing would be nice but not required
>feel like shit knowing the rest of society is familiar smartphones and they are a norm
>thinking about just killing myself instead
>>

You don't want a "plan" or any sort of monthly payment. You dont use it that much. Go with a prepaid provider like Tracphone. Get an unlocked used phone with the features you want.
>>
>>36702510
that's what im thinking but i don't know what any of this shit means. I'm fucking illiterate.

Like are there any robots on this board that are so autistic they don't even have a smartphone? Or am I the only one?
>>
>>36702430
Don't worry dude, they are so popular for a reason, a monkey could figure them out. I don't know about your area but T-Mobile has unlimited mobile data for pretty cheap where I live. And get one with the android os like the samsung galaxy s6, don't get an iphone, they are comparatively complete trash for a huge number of reasons.

What is it that you don't understand, exactly? pretty much any of the cheaper smarphones can do what you want them to and more. They aren't really that much different from your flip phone except that they can do more cool shit. I would reccomend actually going to the store and checking what they can do by yourself. Go prepaid, like the other anon said.

I've been using a old, cheap Samsung Galaxy model for years and it works fine, I mostly just use it for browsing the internet in places with free wireless connection, listening to mp3 and ocasionally playing old JRPGs on mobile emulators that I downloaded. It's not like I have anyone to talk to, anyway.
>>
Go to metro pcs, phones are cheap as fuck and an unlimited data plan is only 60 bucks a month
This is assuming you live in a city and not bum fuck nowhere since their coverage is the same as t mobile
I just found their cheapest phone, 20 bucks after all the discounts

For your phone I'd go to the relevant general, >>>/g/60162528 for the latest news on what's cheap and works.
For your plan, unlimited data, if possible and cheap enough. Allows you to watch all the videos and shows, listen to all the music, shitpost eternally and so forth. I personally use 10-30GB a month this way.
Once you get the phone, you'll learn to use it very fast. The things are simple as fuck and all it takes is to just grab it and explore.

Lol. I pay 17 euro for unlimited data a month. How in the fuck is 60 bucks cheap?

>Like are there any robots on this board that are so autistic they don't even have a smartphone? Or am I the only one?

I don't have a phone, smart or otherwise.

There is no good reason to have one, especially once you consider the privacy issues inherent.
>>
>>36702687
Because America has real money instead of the play money you guys pass around in between begging for gib me dats and getting ass fucked by syrians
>>
>>36702565
I don't have a smartphone either, I'm not sure why your therapist wants you to get one, having a smartphone won't suddenly get you peoples phone number

only reason I can see is so you can browse normiebook and other shit social media

>There is no good reason to have one,
Mobile internet is what. Cloud space, music and video streaming anywhere, pirating out there in the world. It's nice having that access everywhere.
The privacy issues are not a problem by themselves, so long as you're aware of them, do what you can to disable and avoid and act accordingly. I keep any such activity strictly on my computer.
>>
>>36702565
>are there any
my family member bought me a basic $100 smartphone last year because he felt sorry for me but only one month of service and i let it die. i still occasionally use it to browse internet on home wifi when i feel like browsing in bed and i downloaded some of my music to it so i can use it as an mp3 player in public.

they are useful but unnecessary. the month i had service for it, i played around with it, using it for directions when i went outside and other minor conveniences like that.

don't feel intimidated. you should really be asking your therapist what the fucking point of buying one is and why (s)he thinks it will help you at all. there are chat apps but you have to know people for those to be useful. texts can be done on a regular phone. there is no reason to have one if you won't use it other than to be like other people in a superficial way.

if i were you, i would ask your shitty therapist how spending your money on a new toy that everyone else has will help you be a part of the world. it seems like the worst therapeutic advice i have ever heard.
>>
>>36702800
You should be able to live without mobile internet, though. It's nice, but it isn't reason enough for spending so much money on it.

The privacy problems are a issue, being tracked where-ever you are is a massive problem.
>>
Would i want to do an unlimited plan on a prepaid phone? Or is a prepaid phone an old used phone? This shit is fucking confusing
>>
>>36702745

There's really nothing much that doesn't trigger the Ameripoor, is there?

>The privacy problems are a issue, being tracked where-ever you are is a massive problem.
yes, it's pretty creepy and no one cares.
>>
>>36702858
because besides going to work I'm a shut in whose life is stagnant and I'm depressed anxious and suicidal. And the only way to get out of it is medication and actually going out and interacting with the world.

Like using an electronic device for wifi I understand, but its all this talk of plans and minutes and unlimted storage and all this shit that confuses me
>>
>>36702908
>60% white
So whiter than the EU, got it
I'm sorry you were born in a cesspit
>>
who the fuck suggests someone buy a tool they have no use for as a means to better mental health
is this bitch getting kickbacks or something
i agree with the parts about technology being confusing nowadays though, can only imagine that getting much worse as the world continues to pass me by
>will be playing ps2 while other people have holes drilled in their skull for 5d vidya
>>
>>36702868
>You should be able to live without mobile internet, though.
Yeah, I could live without any modern comfort as well, but why the hell would I? It's a lot nicer living in a warm apartment with internet, running water, electricity, lights, computers and so forth than to live innawoods with no comforts at all. I like listening to whatever music I want whenever I go out, I like watching stuff in bed, all snug and comfy.
>The privacy problems are a issue, being tracked where-ever you are is a massive problem.
You're only (possibly) getting tracked if you take your phone with you. Not that anyone's likely to actually track you though and if they want to, they'll do it just fine with an ordinary mobile phone as well.
>>
Okay, like if i get a prepaid Samsung Galaxy J1, I'd pay $80 for the phone... but I don't have to get a plan? Would I still have a phone number?
>>
>>36702948
>plans and minutes and unlimted storage and all this shit that confuses me
Different providers have different plans
These plans say that you have X amount of talk minutes, can send X amount of texts, and use X amount of data a month with varying numbers and prices and you sign a contract for X amount of months
Prepaid has no contract and you just buy however many minutes, texts, and data usage you want as needed
Contract plans will generally also provide you with a phone and roll the cost of that into your monthly bill, that's how most people afford 900 dollar iphones
Prepaid you have to provide your own phone
>>
>>36703048
>Would I still have a phone number?
Yes, you would. That phone number would remain in use so long as you extend the pre-paid usage time, but would possibly be taken out of use at some point in the future, if you neglect to use the phone for a long, long time. Years, probably.
>>
>>36702430
As a non-diagnosed autist but still retard shut-in, smartphones are pretty great.

All they are is that they're a computer that fits in your pocket. Youtube, video games, shitposting on 4chan, watching porn, whatever you want.

I live in Canada and there's a company that lets you just pay every month and once your phone is paid off you can just totally drop out or change your plan or put it on hold or whatever, there's no contract involved like with typical providers.

I started with a Blackberry which is now ancient primitive technology, then a Galaxy S3 and now S6.
>>
>>36702565
I have one only because a bro gave me one. Holds 4-5 numbers and some music, that is it.
Never installing anything there, tried whatsapp once, but it just sucks ass in comparison to desktop messengers and I resetted the phone after 2 days. Typing on there is a pain in the butt, and if I am outside I do not need to be reachable by anyone but family.
>>
They're a brainwashing device the Zionist Occupied Government uses to destroy normies

the EU is whiter than your country ever has been and ever ever will be. your president was a nig nog for fucks sake.

I've had a smart phone for 2 years now and I still don't see why people use them unless they really need to. It's alright to have a small computer in your pocket and in theory it sounds great but I really don't get much use out of it aside from email and the odd bit of internet browsing. If I'm away from home then I'm probably going to be paying attention to whatever it is I'm there to do, not breaking out netflix or whatever. If I'm anywhere near a desktop or laptop then there's really no reason for me to use a phone.
>>
>>36704129
I like the fitness app that tracks your steps and distance & speed when you go biking or jogging.

It's also the best thing when you're in bed. Watching late-night videos to help me sleep and then when I wake up in the morning I can check on my bullshit mobile game as a way to wake me up.
>>
>>36704205
I actually prefer to use a laptop in bed because it has a physical keyboard rather than an unwieldy touchscreen.
>>
I have a smartphone and while I obviously don't use it for social stuff, I use it as a music player, video player, alarm clock and also to browse the net when I wake up or am out somewhere. The fact that it's a phone and can do text messages is just a plus.
>>
>>36704241
Yeah but then, what, do you tilt the entire laptop sideways so it matches up with your eyes and head when you're resting your head on you pillow?

I guess maybe new laptops are kind of like tablets and have rotating screens? I have an older laptop and I just use my phone to look at video in bed. I just prop it up against a box of tissues.
>>
>>36702987
yes your 60% white country is whiter than my 98% white country
>>
>>36702430
Don't give in to the conformists OP, they want to turn you into a normie.
The next thing you know she'll make you make a facebook profile with a selfie, add the people who used to bully you in school and practice shit like small talk and forced smiles.
Don't let them win
>>
>>36702430
just get a chinese smartphone, they are cheap and will be enough for your uses
>>
NEET autist here and I don't get the hate on smartphones. I have zero social connections and don't talk to people and I have one anyway. I mostly just use it for playing games, looking at the internet in bed, and maps/directions. It's totally worth it if you can afford it. Just make sure to get an android phone.
>>
JUST GET A CHINESE SMARTPHONE FOR ABOUT 200-250$
AND THEN GET A CHEAP PLAN, I know it's expensive in America so get something with 1 or 2gb of internet

meizu and xiaomi are alright for you.

>>
>>36702430
I'm a hopeless autists but I still have a smart phone. They're the ultimate robot tool for dealing with normals. You can just avoid taking to people by looking at it. I don't even talk to people on it I just the 4chan app and the opera app. It's also good for music and to use as a camera. I do feel kind of trapped by it now though. In the past I'd just turn off my PC but now I always have my phone on me. I'm becoming a zombie.
>>
>>36702565
I was the same until about two years ago. Used a flip phone before then, which I basically just used as a pocket watch. For the first year it was basically the same except I could play some shitty games and take pictures of trees and stuff. In the last year I've found it pretty useful though, like I got a notepad thing so I can record my autistic daydreams and I downloaded a bunch of books so now I can read shit in public without being awkward. Also I've a calendar and a piano thing which is kinda fun sometimes, and now I can phonepost in bed without crushing my dick under a heavy laptop.

I still don't get the whole 'phone' part though, I've never sent or been sent a text or called anyone but my dad and I don't know how to buy credit. I have no idea what plan I have or if I have one or what a plan is.
>>

>have a smartphone worth less than $100
>Literally an alien in the eyes of my peers
>don't want to buy a new one because it's just like throwing money in a fire.
>>
>>36705321
I don't want shit durability.
>>
>>36702430
Eh, don't worry about. I've never used a cell phone, and I never want to.

Back when I was working, I was either at the office (and had a desk phone), or at home (with a land line). The rest of the time I was driving/shopping/eating out or whatever, and those things only took a small part of my day, so I didn't miss many calls while out. Plus the answering machine gets the calls anyway if I'm out, so it's not like I'm really missing anything.
>>
>>36702430
your therapist is full of shit and he wants you to be a useless normalfag drone
you can be social without a shitty smarthone
but if anons in this shitty thread actually convinced you to get a phone here is what you should look for:
either get a cheap chinkphone like xiaomi redmi note 3
lenovo moto g5/g5 plus or wait for the Nokia 5/6
you should also lurk the smartphone general threads on /g/
