During my teens I was very depressed and locked in my room all the time. If i'm being completely honest right now, I only showered about once every two weeks and brushed my teeth once a month.

I also dropped out and was a NEET so I got away with it. When I started going to therapy I had to get my life back on track. It felt amazing to shower at least every few days now, but I was still physically in the slum and had to get used to it. Took me about another year to get the hang of being a functioning human again. Start slow, start small, and be patient with yourself. Take baby steps, especially when working out.

What I did was that I made a workout plan, where I would start off working out for 10 minutes two days a week, then 20 minutes three days a week, and kept increasing this as the weeks gone by and my body got my accustomed to it. Start with something like 20 push-ups, jumping jacks, and jogging in place for a few minutes. And if it makes you feel more motivated definitely get a gym membership once you get the hang of it. Because you'll be so sweaty and nasty after your workouts, take a shower right afterwards and it will feel so good you will keep doing it. The real game changer here is your motivation to change. Keep reminding yourself to do this and how much you want it or else you will remain a mess.

Coming from a former robot, this is entirely true. I've always been extremely introverted and never had the balls to talk to girls or chads. I was always an outcast, but In my programing class senior year of high-school I was paired with 3 chads and I thought they would make fun of me. But after a few weeks of getting to know each-other they turned out to actually be the some of the nicest people i've ever known and they soon invited me to a party. It was the usual deal with drinking, mingling, getting high, and it turns out i'm a pretty good beer pong player. One of the chad's (not from the original 3) even started helping me get into shape by going to the gym with me. And 6 months later, with graduation around the corner and us trying to figure out our dorms for college (a majority of us chose the same one), all I can tell you current robots is to try. OP is definitely right about everything. When I became 16-17, I quickly learned about the lies of hanging out with nerds. They are perpetually trapped in a state of autism and infantile behaviour. They idolize children toys and generally shun from adulthood and responsibility.

I've had some Chad friends over the years and they've been the nicest and also the ones that allowed me to actually develop the most. The nerds were still stuck being kids in adult bodies while Chads were learning me tons of vital shit. Eventually their behavior robs off on you and everything seems more natural.

To be honest when i was beta in school i had that one chad that was kind to me. He never ridiculed me and defended me against failed chads and bullies. I always looked up to him but then one day he disappointed me very much when he did nothing when shit was going down. I believed in him till the end but he didnt help me...

As a manlet who used to eat lunch alone, walk around the block a couple times before working up the courage to enter a shop and interact with employees, and always spaghetti'd around women, I can honestly say that chads are better friends than robots.

I had robot friends in high school, and while it was nice to be a dork without judgement from them, they did nothing to help me improve and neither did I help them.

Then I went to university and got put in the room next to Chad's in residence. End up becoming great friends with Chad, and he's actually the one who introduced me to 4chan back in 2004. He invites me to everything he goes to and I gradually become more sociable and confident. I thought that if I hung out with a guy who was clearly more attractive than me, that it would hurt my dismal chances with women even more, but it was the reverse. Chad was a natural wingman and always knew how to introduce me in a flattering way to women. Get my first girlfriend off of one such introduction and lose virginity shortly after.

Fast forward to now, and while I'm not a classic Chad, I'm much more attractive than I used to be when I wore the same shit every day and didn't pay any attention to grooming. I can't just take my pick of women, but I haven't dated below a 7/10 in years now. Most people I meet now consider me to be an extrovert.

I've written quite a few long posts on r9k trying to inspire similar success stories but most people here seemed hostile to my advice, but there were always a couple who seemed to genuinely take it to heart, so I hope it worked for them.

Every now and then, when I meet someone who reminds me of who I used to be, I try to take them under my wing and show them that social skills are precisely that; skills. It takes practice and it takes some guts to put yourself out there and risk spaghetti, but eventually it gets easier. Chad can help with the process, be open-minded.

Do you actually interact with chads? As someone who has had many robot and chad friends, I can say that there are just as many basic robots as there are chads and probably more interesting chads than there are robots. My chad friends are all out of college now and they're doing shit like travelling around the world (and not to shit like Thailand or Ibiza), conducting fieldwork in ethology research in South America, getting their masters in international relations in Europe, working in finance as an expat in Dubai, working as a helicopter paramedic, and random shit like that. I find that chads are much more willing to engage with the world and get outside of their comfort zones.

Dressing better is a good start. I wore khakis and plain tshirts everyday for so long that my chad friends threw me a party themed after my shit wardrobe. They all dressed like me and then they helped me clean up and dress well and then we invited a bunch of females over to our apartment. At first I was pissed that they were blatantly making fun of me, but then I realized they had a fucking point. They all looked like garbage when they dressed like me, though they admitted it was comfy, and I looked great in comparison. I had girls from high school commenting on pictures from that party who were completely surprised that I could clean up so well.

Posture took me a long time to get the hang of, but I basically purposely tried to alter my body language so that it would be more open and dominant. It felt so fake and conceited at first, and my neck was clearly used to slouching, but it became a habit and now it's just what I do.

The process is all about habits. We've built up all these unproductive behavior loops that keep us trapped within our current comfort zone. It takes effort to break habits and effort to make new ones, but eventually they become a part of you. There's no transformation, it's a gradual process and you sometimes only realize the progress you've made when you look back years. The more you interact with other people, the more you become comfortable with social interaction, and the less you overanalyze social situations and spaghetti. Robots tend to frontalize social interaction because they have no skill so they have to think hard about what to say and how to behave. When you develop your social skills, it becomes a more automatic and natural process and you find that conversation begins to flow. You have to get outside your comfort zone, and you have to risk some embarrassment and humiliation, but the rewards are worth it. In modern urban society, extroverts clearly win.

I've come to accept that all the positive experiences and early socialization have made Chads actually decent people. They don't spend time being bitter about minute social flubs and mistakes like we do here. A lifetime of playing sports and interacting with others has made them feel that being with other people is a "good thing," whereas for fuck-ups like us it's intensely painful and awkward to consider and we project our understanding that there can be no reason to do so except for selfish motives. They actually enjoy talking about each other's day. They WANT to just talk and hang out with you, and if you come out of your shell and try to have fun then it's a net gain for them because they have another person's company to enjoy for the sake of it, and if you retract or pull away from them they just move on with their own lives.

It's probably for the best that people like us never get married or have kids, I can't imagine even unintentionally raising a child to be as miserable as myself. I wish I had the opportunity to grow up normal.

Former Brad here and i can confirm that all of this is true. I used to be a massive dickhead to everyone, constantly betraying and befriending people just so i could feel more like what i thought chad was.. It was and endless cykle of making people feel like shit because i felt like shit and the worst part is that it didnt even make me feel better.

With every passing day i would feel more and inferior to chad more until i couldn't take the pressure, started to become a socially awkward cunt because i felt like everyone was happier than me. People started to think i was weird and without a second doubt the people i thought where my best friends saw an oppertunity to gain some status and immediately left me. They completely ghosted me every single one, and i cant even be mad because i know i would've done the same.. heck i probably did similar shit myself on a daily basis.

And now i just sit here alone watching the people i bullied rise above. I even saw a guy i used to Billy in high school recently with what looked like a girlfriend but more importantly he looked happy.

I decided I didn't want to be a piece of shit anymore so I didn't make any more excuses and started exercising and counting calories every single day. And I didn't/don't half-ass it either. I exercise until I'm gasping for breath and sweating and feel like falling over and passing out, and I count every single calorie and even round up so I know I never go over, and never have "cheat days".

And a big cup of coffee in the morning helps too.
