Basically getting that first bit of bite that allows the car to move forward which you can easily press down to remove the power. It allows for really slow incremental moves.
On hills you should have your handbrake on, raise the clutch enough to allow it to move forward then take the handbrake off. Should allow you to move forward pretty much as soon as it comes off without rolling back and causing you to stress, also should move forward without the car shooting off as you are at bite already.

Thought about trying to take another lesson or two just to brush back up on it? A lot of drivers I see look like they need to take some lessons again, so it wouldn't be too bad.

I took a refresher lesson for 2 hours before buying this car and it went perfectly fine, not a single stall. they all use diesels and you can actually feel the car lurching on the bite. My car is a low horsepower petrol car and I can't feel the bite at all, if I pull the clutch up without the acclerator it just makes noises and stalls. Might just go out and practice stopping/starting everywhere at 4am for a few hours till I really feel it

Going out in the early hours is a good idea lad.

When I passed my test I used to do drives to the neighbouring town almost every night past 12. It let me get a feel for my car a lot more and also gain some experience without the stress of having traffic around.

Find yourself a vacant car park in an industrial estate or even a shop and just work the car the little by playing with the clutch. All cars have that biting point and you just need to find where it is which sounds like it could be when you take your foot all the way off. Once you find it work it and make the car dance.
