When I was young - and it was before internet was widespread - people were saying the same thing against the music players, that young people would become autists lost in a bubble of sound, out of touch with reality.

They also said that tapes would kill the music/movie industry. They said plenty of things. Still waiting on my flying car. Who stole my future?

Anyway and more importantly, why do we do it? Because we're bored. Well, they are bored. I could watch by the train's windows for hours but who cares about me.

In villages/small towns, people know each others, so talking to each other is the normal way to do things. There's that old man taking the train to work every day, so you will end smalltalking with him sometimes.

In a big town, you can't have that. What would you speak about? You don't know them it would be awkward, plus you'll never see them again, better use that amount of time to check a few things quickly.

Last and final, people don't do that where I live (the suburbs) because they would get their shit stolen. That doesn't make them talk to each other. Don't make technology the culprit for an isolated generation.
