I can't get into idol shows anymore.
I watched full moon wo sagashite which was very good, and kirarin revolution which was pretty dumb.
After that no idol series was offering anything new.

Toradora has an extremely high feels concentration, I understand you, anon. (That scene where Taiga comes of out of the wardrobe with the black uniform on, and then the monologue about "finding something which no one has seen" or something ends the series)
Kuroko no Basuke is also great. Some of the best and most intense shounen confrontations there. There's surprisingly a lot of good character development there.

Danshi no koukousei no nichijyou is probably my favourite anime. It's just so comfy and laid-back. No forced cute girl moe stuff, just a bunch of guys fucking around. Reasonably self-aware too which is a plus. One of the very few anime that've ever made me laugh out loud.

it's probably Jojo's Bizzare Adventure

Any anime that has a female main character or protagonist always just ends up making me super sad. Jojo's has a clear set of values and moral belief, a clear evil, and a great storyline throughout the seasons. It fills the void because I'm a sucker for classic good vs evil, none of this relativistic "good and evil are subjective" crap that I see all over the place.

I am just finishing Stardust Crusaders, and it's really good. I reccomend it.

I always felt the character development was so dynamic even in a lot of the supporting cast plus making the confrontations like you said seem just incredible and a display of power even if it's just something like basketball, it always amazed me how it could bring me in with that even though I don't even like basketball

And Toradora has always been my go to feels, I feel the emotions that puts out are very simplistic and general by also specific in some cases that I feel like certain scenes were just made to deal with how I'm feeling

Third girl wasn't that great. That arc was a little lackluster to me against the backdrop of the others.
Nanasaki Ai is a paragon of positive and appealing female (and just plain human) attributes, but I just don't think she can beat the brute force of Tsukasa's character.
I don't think I've seen a more appealing cast of girls anywhere else apart from YRYR and Monogatari.
Have you seen any of the extra Amagami OVAs? I was wondering whether they're worth watching.

Again I really do love the series, and it's also been some time since I saw the original, but there's stuff like one of the members planning to leave the group to study overseas and much screentime spent on angst over this when the riveting solution is for her friend to find her at the airport and ask her to stay. And another member wants to quit being a school idol after she got injured and the group decided to pull out of the contest because of it.

Sunshine (the second Love Live! series) had a bunch of tedious drama about what happened with the third-year students in the past.

And it's whatever, but imo the shows are at their best when they're happy and inspiring instead of dispensing not-very-compelling drama that almost feels like a forced attempt to make the series be taken a little more seriously. Or some shit idfk

Oh, yeah, that's an issue with utopian SoLs where everything is made of Platonic Forms of cuteness and sunshine.
The emotional baseline is so high and exposure to misfortune so rare in those worlds, that anything approaching the slightest deviation from universal contentment and all-around satisfaction has no choice but to be taken as tragedy.
I'm guessing the creators want to explore their characters in somewhat psychologically testing situations to give them depth, but they can't include anything actually tragic because that would fuck with the whole aesthetic of the show, so they have to make do with minutiae.
The characters still react to the trivial problems as if they were catastrophes due to the high baseline of happiness in their lives, which has a jarring effect and breaks suspension of disbelief.

Remember in Yuru Yuri when Yui mentioned that she was considering joining another club?
Kyouko's shock was so exaggerated that she basically broke character.
Although on the other hand there is a dose of cuteness in this as well.

I don't know how to treat this phenomenon yet.
