Before I used to read into things like politics and other things I couldn't control, but I found it to be a sum zero endeavour. Right now I just focus on books that can improve measurable metrics in my life. Books about money, body, mind, perspective, social things etc. Maybe trying something like that might help you find a worthwhile read.
