Who /afraidofspending/ here? I look at new things every now and again and consider replacing my old gear with it, but then remember my bank account would go down as soon as I did.

I'm still using a decade old headset, the chair has worn down all of the padding and is deteriorating, my phone has been cracked for the better part of a year, and so on. I just hate spending any of it, and I can't ever make a decision on what should replace it.

It's one of a handful of places where people go to "make it."

But the best lawyer in your town would struggle to be average in LA, NYC, etc, and the hottest girl in your town would be struggling to break into the middle of the pack.

Basically, people who think they are hot shit jump into those meat grinders by the millions, thinking they are gonna get rich. Then, when they have struggled there for half a decade and haven't made any progress, they blame it on everyone and everything but themselves, and go to a new meat grinder to try again, never learning to be content to live outside of these metros.

But, long story short, it's expensive because it is in demand. If people weren't willing to pay the rent rates, then the rent rates would lower. It really is as simple as supply and demand. In LA, for example, you have 4 million people living on 469 square miles of land. That's a population density of more than 8500 people per square mile.

Wichita, KS, on the other hand, has a population density of about 2300 per square mile.

Top one is savings from neetbux/studybux.
The bottom (8 months of job) I haven't paid tax on it yet so it's probably closer to 40k which puts total at about 62k.

Bought a PS4 Pro at the start of the year. I've wanted a new desktop computer since 2011 (been using laptops and consoles since then), might finally buy one now that AMD Ryzen is coming out, there goes $5-6k. Also might buy a prostitute to finally lose my virginity ($400) and then I will want to become a regular once I have the taste for it which will cost thousands.

Living with my parents for now. I want to live in a little inner-city cottage for $430/week so I can do loud things such as gaming with speakers and fucking a sex doll without anyone hearing me. Job isn't stable and I'm not sure whether I'll be able to get another one, so I'm continuing to save.

Mine's connected to my checking account. It's as easy as Cash Transfer -> To Checking -> Amount.

And I have margin enabled on my account, so easy access to ~40k in cash if necessary. I just funded my 2016 and 2017 ROTH's and don't have my Tax refund coming yet and didn't want to close out any of my active positions yet so that's why I dipped in.

regular brokerage accounts have no strings, the money is yours and it's freely transferrable, though if you sell securities you've gotta pay capital gains tax on whatever the value increase was between buying and selling, if there was any.

Roth IRAs have a giant gubmint penalty on taking anything out before age 65, in exchange for being sheltered from capital gains tax, meaning that when you are finally allowed to withdraw from them, you pay no taxes at all on 40-45 years of stock value growth/compound interest. don't put anything in there if you might suddenly need it again, tho

You can set it up for timed withdrawals and all kinds of things. I could liquidate everything at once, there'd be tax implications and issues involving the gains from my ROTH account but the brokerage account is just money, takes 3-5 days for the stock transactions to go through, and something like 3-5 business days to transfer the money to bank, but bam, would have ~100k cash in bank just like that.

25 sounds like a good age to move. I'm almost 24 now, gives some time to save up a nice 2-year safety net and hope for a pay rise. The other option is to stay at home for a long time and save to buy a house; the financial stability of owning a home is a dream.

I dunno, clearly the uptime is long enough to allow you to follow /r9k/ threads for an hour or two at a time. learn some simple scripting to have your computer(s) automatically reboot and restart mining when the power comes back on. I'd totally be doing this with all my spare cpu cycles if I didn't pay for my own electricity!

then use the bitcoins to buy amazon gift cards, get free shipping amazon pantry boxes of staple goods to keep for yourself or to sell at outrageous markups on the yanqui imperialist black market

My friend, maybe it was your age and being thrust into such a lucrative position that got to you, but you really sound like one entitled cunt. I get the blues during the winter as well but I am proud to say I never skipped work because of it.

i know. and really I never blamed anyone but myself. i am too stupid to live and cannot manage my money because I am low IQ/borderline retarded. there is only one way out at this point. it sucks to be in crippling debt because money is all you think about. I envy all the anons with comfy cushions of money. I've never had a savings or investment account. my entire adult life has been living paycheck to paycheck, and then when I couldn't manage that, I ended up getting loans and CCs and ruined my credit. now I'm done for, I've burned all my bridges. the ship has sailed, lads.
>>
>>35092517

declare bankruptcy, bro. you won't be allowed to have a credit card for like ten years and you'll lose your car, but you'll never have to pay any of that CC debt back
>>
>>35092850
i can't do that. i have no where to go if I do that. I will be homeless by the end of the month and I have no family. I'd rather die than live in a homeless shelter and take public transportation to a minimum wage job and basically be homeless for the next 10 years of my pathetic life, anon.

eh pretty sure most places have laws that someone has to rent a house to you, no matter how abysmal your credit, as long as you have proof of income. you won't be homeless for too long. plus depending on where you are you have to be delinquent on rent for 2-3 months in a row before they can evict you. I take public transit every day and have never made more than $35k in a super expensive city, and it definitely beats being dead

Charity never helped me when I was poor. It excludes "undesirables" and treats them with contempt. The unemployed are forced by the government to slave away for charities to get their payments. The whole concept is not a positive thing for society and people like me so I stay well away from it.
If homeless hip hop guy on the train asks for 5 cents or 20 cents for picking up rubbish I keep playing my Vita. I make sure not to make eye contact with the beggars on Collins Street. And third world people aren't my problem.

Despite that, having money doesn't magically make you a normalfag. Some of us do literally nothing but work, myself because all I really enjoy in life is saving money and knowing I'm more financially secure.

Honestly, some of the anons here are working part time jobs and saved significantly, it just requires you to limit spending on yourself for frivolous things and determine what it is you really want.

I'm afraid once I start spending I either won't stop, or I'll regret and resent the purchase for lowering my bank account. I want to keep hitting those milestones, and every time I buy something I put myself farther away from it.

There's so many things I should replace, but won't. 10 year old headset, 8 year old computer chair, computer is mostly old parts threatening to break down, shoes have holes in them, phone is broken down and dying, so on.

Spending anything unless it is completely broken down and non-functional seems like a personal failure.
