who here /retarded/?
>can't focus on a book
>>34547259
iktf, anon. being a brainlet is hell.
>>34547259
you might have adhd anon, or another learning disability
pills can fix that, see a doctor
>tfw was smartest in my special ed class
>>34547259
It's probably just too much internet, try reading much more and when using internet don't switch between 100 different things, it fucks your ability to focus.
t.focuslet
>tfw want to into anime
>tfw don't know where to start, plus overwhelmed at how much there is and how long series can be, like 100+ episodes
>can't focus enough on getting into any series, vidya or books
>shitpost instead
i can't even succeed at being a loser
I faced the same problem. Internet made us retarded.
FORCE yourself to read 3 hours a day for a month. Reading will become absolutely effortless
I had the same problem until I found a book series that I loved.
Now I can't put them down.
>>34547330
but i could focus back back then and pretty much liked reading. It's probably what >>34547343 is saying but I don't do that much on web. it's mainly 4chan
>>34547259
I didn't use to be, but goddamn I seem to be trending that way. I think it's a combination of depression and alcohol
What kind of books are you interested in? See if >>>/lit/ can help :) maybe you just haven't found the right book for yourself yet! Don't quit now!
>Make detailed plan on what I'm going to do for the day ahead
>List of productive activities
>Shitpost from bed all day
I'm actually such a fucking dunce
>tfw wasted entire youth playing videogames
>tfw 26 and zero useful skills
>tfw absolutely retarded about the ways society works
>what is taxes
>>34547429
philosophy, sociology, economics and political stuff
>>34547471
>philosophy, sociology
No wonder you're a brainletino.
Study math and formal logic if you wish to stop being dumb
>>34547573
but anon, I'm so dumb I can't even remember formulas!
>>34547573
>he's smart enough to do math
get the FUCK OUT, BRAINCHAD
>Simple math is difficult
WHY AM I GOOD AT FUCKING NOTHING
>tfw retarded and lazy but people think I'm smart and lazy

>>34547454
Literally me. I self-loathe so much.
>>34547573
>>34547658
I can understand differential equations but I can't into politics or any of that social stuff.
Don't bully mathbros.
>>34547734
I don't even know what the FUCK that is.
OUT OUT OUT OUTTTTTTTTTT
As a kid I could never understand what the fuck is 'energy'. During all physics classes I just sat here for years and wondered what in the hell is energy and why it's 'potential' if you raise a thing up. I failed so many tests because I simply couldn't visualize something that fundamentally made no sense to me.
Then years later I stumble upon a Richard Feynman lecture where he says that even scientists have no clue what the fuck is energy and all we know is that it's constant and can transformed because reasons.
Always thought I was smart but lazy. But over the years I've realisef I really am just retarded. Things other people grasp easily take me ages to learn. I've tried and failed several times to learn programming but it just won't stick. I just want a simple, solitary job that pays enough to live a nice minimalist life on. With no idiot coworkers or bullshit about a career involved. I'm a pleb at heart. Things of refine don't appeal to me so why should I bother improving
>>34547694
Literally this.
original-
>>34547454
This is me but I'm 20.
>applying for jobs
>they ask all this information about my old jobs and schooling
>for every job, they want to know the exact start and end dates, along with the supervisor's name and phone number and email
>don't know this shit at all, forget when I started/ended and don't know how to find the supervisor's information. Don't even know I had one.
>for every school, they want the exact start and end date, along with my exact GPA
>don't know any of that shit either
Seriously I don't know anything.
>>34547694
same
i have no idea why people think i'm anything but really dumb.
>>34548030
Become a taxi driver. I'm convinced that's the ultimate robot job after watching taxi driver.
>>34547895
If it's not matter then it's energy. Simple as that.
Energy isn't matter. Matter isn't energy.
But matter is made up of energy.
>>34547658
how much is Chad tier? i can do second grade equations and a bit of geometry but i didn't past that.
until i was 19 i did not realized i brush my hair in the wrong direction. i always did it infront of a mirror and didn't thought about it switching sides. i only realized it later looking at a photo (which really exists of me).
it was the moment which killed the last hope that i'm not retarded.
>>34548436
there's a right direction to brush hair? I thought it was just preference
>>34548456
yes it is.
with wrong direction is mean the other direction which i actually wanted.
If I Start reading a book,my mind always goes off somewhere , or while i'm reading i start making my own headcannon
I fucking hate it.
FINALLY a thread where I can ask this:
When I listen to someone talking, I just repeat what I hear in my head 1:1. For me it seems a bit weird, but I'm not really sure.
Is this normal? Is this how listening actually works?
>read anything that's higher than 4chan level comprehension
>struggle to understand anything and end up reading the same sentences over and over
>you could be smart if you left 4chan and got your shit together
>4chan is my only joy in life
I guess the useless neet neckbeard anonymous lifestyle chooses you.
>>34548801
>>you could be smart if you left 4chan and got your shit together
who the fuck says this
>>34548760
Fucking christ, right? I can't remember the last time I read something complex and actually retained any information from it.
>>34548658
Repeat how? As they go along or wait until a sentence is over and then repeat it? Obviously you'll have to have the words in your brain before you start to break them down into concepts etc so a bit of repeating is normal
>>34548851
You're a retard because you read thousands of poorly written comments by different people in an hour, for multiple hours a day, instead of reading literature or improving yourself.
>>34547757
I can't even remember what algebra is
I can do the calculations just fine though
>>34548898
>As they go along
Yes, as soon as I hear something I repeat in my head. Exactly what I listening.
>>34548933
Fucking christ, what I'd do to have any form of fucking intuition on math. I've literally started crying in front of tutors because I was so frustrated that I couldn't comprehend the simple fucking algebra they were throwing at me.
>>34548929
This is the first time I came here in six months though.
I don't see why reading literature is going to make you smart. Intelligence is mostly innate and also comes from early childhood experiences and parental attitudes to learning (such as giving you a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world).
By the time someone's here posting in a thread about feeling retarded, it's mostly over in regards to intelligence progression.
>>34548929
>poorly written
Excuse me?
I type all my posts proper like.
>>34548994
Honestly, if you didn't have math built into you when you were a child, you are very likely never going to really "get" math.
>>34547259
No one tells you focus is a skill, like anything else. You have to train for it.
Try using a timer. Read for 5 minutes then switch to whatever(say 4chan) for 10, then read for 6 minutes and staunch for 9 minutes, keep doing this. After a while, start with 10 minute readings, and slowly increase it while making breaks smaller. Over a few weeks and months this will work, your brain isn't magical and can be trained. This is just an example.
>>34548760
Here's a few quotes for you to practice on:
>The only objects of practical reason are therefore those of good and evil. For by the former is meant an object necessarily desired according to a principle of reason; by the latter one necessarily shunned, also according to a principle of reason
>Great minds are related to the brief span of time during which they live as great buildings are to a little square in which they stand: you cannot see them in all their magnitude because you are standing too close to them
>To think Being itself explicitly requires disregarding Being to the extent that it is only grounded and interpreted in terms of beings and for beings as their ground, as in all metaphysics.
>have ADHD
>irl lag
>can't focus on anything except computers because i can keep myself entertained doing multiple things
>>34548984
To be honest I'm having a hard time exactly imagining listening since I usually don't pay attention to it since it's so normal
But yeah, you hear the words and construct the sentence in your head, nothing abnormal about that. Hearing just a sound or a word at a time is useless, you wouldn't understand anything
-,.,.,.,- it happens
>>34549040
I understand absolutely 0 of any of that. How would I practice these? Just read them over and over?
>>34547368
I know what you mean anon. It's like I have literally nothing. I haven't played vidya or watched a new show in years
Normies have real life experiences
Semi-losers live vicariously through media to make up for a lack of real life experiences
Real losers can't even enjoy media. We're just empty shells
>>34548994
You're probably thinking about it the wrong way
But then again a lot of people just don't seem to "get" mathematics
>tfw best in school at every maths competition but can't remember the names of formulas or study for anything
Mathematical intuition is pretty helpful desu, even got me into a top University for STEM
I feel that
>Struggle to comprehend texts
>Can't focus on books
>Can't follow logic in arguments
>Not creative
>Get confused by instructions
Here's my story
>Diagnosed ADHD-PI when I was about 11
>Used to actually have a lot of creative energies, used to be pretty darn smart too
>Have issues with psychosis
>Never the same afterwards
It's like I fell off the smart tree and hit every retard branch on the way down.
>>34547334
>tfw was in special ed
>wasn't even the smartest
>bottom 3
>got made fun of
>the special ed teacher made us go to this meeting every month to see our progress
>tfw it got worse
>AP creative writing
>retard math class
>>34549098
Just read more in general, your comprehension will improve
Those are all quotes by philosophers, they usually write in long sentences and try to express fairly subtle points through long-winded descriptions, so they're not that easy to understand
Reading is the best cure against being a brainlet, it improves focus, general knowledge, vocabulary, makes you more eloquent and well spoken etc.
>tested IQ is 87
>struggle to read ANYTHING
>bought a bunch of Mr Men books and took me 7 months to read them
>can't eat properly, have to mush the food in my hands to make chewing easier
>have brain damage which causes this
>also have horrible reasoning skills
>can't think straight
>make odd decisions
>for example used to buy 2 bags of red lentils a day because I thought that lentils would replace sugar and I could start a bakery
Without a doubt the worst part of my life was reading about pic related country in Africa. I read they have an IQ of 59 average and believed I could make myself feel smart so I started talking to a guy from there online.
I challenged him to a chess game and he told me he couldn't afford a chess board so I sent him $300 and he stopped talking to me
Even africans outsmarted me.
>>34548929
I don't think the comments being poorly written is the issue
The sensory overload from the internet and the constant stream of information has a similar effect over time as ADHD, making it impossible to focus on less stimulating things such as arguments, mathematics or literature for any amount of time
The spoonfeeding and general lack of any mental activity on this board and the rest of 4chan obviously doesn't help either though
>>34549161
could you recommend me some philosophers, anon?
>>34549223
>I challenged him to a chess game and he told me he couldn't afford a chess board so I sent him $300 and he stopped talking to me
>for example used to buy 2 bags of red lentils a day because I thought that lentils would replace sugar and I could start a bakery
Topkek, there's gotta be something wrong with you beyond plain stupidity man, most people with a 90ish IQ aren't THAT stupid
>>34549223
what in the fuck were you thinking, anon?
>>34549294
I have brain damage like I said, it causes strange logic problems
>>34549386
Interesting, mind telling me the cause of your brain damage? For me it was because of excessive hypoglicemia from being diabetic and having to take insulin
>>34549256
Probably the most interesting to read is Schopenhauer in my opinion. Whilst he might not be correct in every aspect or have the political flair of Nietzsche he is the most stimulating intellectually, you will end up thinking for longer than you will be reading
>>34548997
Reading doesn't really raise your IQ
Hoever having better focus, more general knowledge, a better ability to follow arguments and make arguments of your own, a broader vocabulary etc. will feel like you have gotten a lot smarter
It definitely helps
>>34548515
Too much internet and overstimulation
Listen to some music whilst reading, if you need to get up and walk around once in a while
That might help you not feel underestimated whilst reading
It gets better after a while
>>34548324
Getting into a good college because of your maths skills is Chad tier
Second grade maths as an adult is robot tier
>>34547694
I relate to this so much. I think I just have a very physically "smart" look to me. I look a lot like edward snowden and people always say I come off as being super smart but I literally don't know how to do anything and gave up on school because I was too dumb for it.
>>34547694
>used to actually be smart but lazy
>when I was younger I could ride out on this
>but as the years of laziness rode on I became dumber and dumber as my peers advanced academically
>tfw now retarded and lazy
>>34550047
Literally me

>tfw 90 iq
You sub 90iq brainlets can't even compete
>>34549496

>>34547259
>ruined my attention span by multitasking with 3 screens for years
>can't even take a piss without watching a video anymore
>unable read a book for longer than 20 minutes without taking a break
>can't do math beyond arithmetic without massive exstensive help
>can't focus when people are talking to me i.e I stare at the wall and hear what sounds like muted trumpets
>I break everything in my possession at some point
>I don't know what people mean by "lift with your legs"
I've had all of these things since I could walk and talk. I also have interest in the things I can't do. I like books but I can't read for long. I like math but I can't fucking do it. Being a kid and feeling like you're the slowest in your class is the worst hell in the world.
>>34550372
>I also have interest in the things I can't do. I like books but I can't read for long.
THIS SO MUCH. I used to read a fuckton but nowadays I can't focus on it.
>>34547259
When I was 16 I got a B in calc 1. We had these stupid ass short quizzes out of 30 and I always missed something so I almost never got As. I even went to the study sessions.

Congrats
>>34547454

>/x/ for philosophical stuff
send him to /his/ man

>>34549040
wtf, now i feel like a retard, thanks anon
>>34551787
But that's just entry level stuff anon, single sentences even. How are you ever going to read a book that isn't for children?
>>34551887
I guess I won't ever bother, I must be too retarded.
>>34551899
At least you can still read children's books

I blame video games and tabbed internet browsers.

i got all A's in high school, got 4's and 5's on a bunch of AP tests, and got a 2250 on my SAT.
got into duke university and none of my friends did
then i fucking FAILED
and i mean literally failed organic chemistry, genetics, multivariable calc...classes were too fast paced, couldn't learn the material on my own with the book...
ended up being an english major (i did graduate with honors and the deans list in that) and history minor
>>34547259
>don't know if im smart or dumb

ids this bait?

it's not fucking bait, why would this be bait

>>34550372
i think it means you should keep your back straight and not bend over too much
so basically lift like squatting
(but dont actually squat)
>>34549138

>people are better than video games
>all that time is wasted
when i read, i have a hard time visualizing whats going in the book, and have to pause frequeently to play it in my head like a movie. liek i know what the words mean, but its like i have ocd or something. i have to re read it over and over until it looks perfect in my imagination. so i stopped reading.
>>34552131
Not really. It's like drowning spiders in the shower or jogging past a cripple, it's an obvious feeling of superiority
>>34552116
It makes perfect sense, google it, its from a well known children's book too.
The reason I quoted a kids book after quoting philosophers before was as a diss to the anon I replied to. Unfortunately you literally seem to be too dumb to be insulted, just like the other replies
I'll keep it to "you dumb, me smart" next time, I promise
>>34552572
even IF you were more intelligent than other people here, you will still achieve nothing in your life

>pick up a book

>mind starts drifting to other things

I don't understand. I can plow through a text book for class if I need too but I for the love of God cannot fucking read a novel or a book outside of school.
>have to watch an anime or a serie more than 2-3 times to fully have an opinion
>>34549223
I want to know more about your life.
>>34547658
You might have been taught it wrong, public education is generally shit. I have a high IQ, but I am absolutely terrible at math, because my school was so bad at teaching it.
Now I decided that I wanted to fill this huge gap in my knowledge in by redoing math from scratch at Khan Academy -- what I've learned already from the most basic stuff (I'm only just about to enter 4th grade) is insane. I highly recommend it if you think you're terrible at math and wish to educate yourself.
