Are you asking because you actually don't know?
They were... interesting. Everything was less PC, America was generally a happy place, it wasn't as politically charged as it is today, 9/11 changed the entire political landscape in this country and it has never recovered.
>>
pretty shit honestly

kids born in 95+ pretend they were even cognitive during the time and think it was amazing for some reason
>>
>>34314989
You woke up and things were awesome. Then your day was awesome and you went to sleep watching awesome TV shows. Radio stations played more than four songs, stand up comedy was a thing, no one cared what you were wearing and there were no cancerous smart phones. Also the internet was only used by young nerdy men and literally no one else. Even mentioning the word "internet" made everyone look at you funny.

Much prefer early to mid 00s over the 90s. Anyone who doesn't is just trying to be an edgy contrarion.
>>
1985 here.

The 90s were great. There wasn't any of this political correctness victim culture that exists today. The 24 hour news cycle wasn't really a thing - many TV stations signed off late at night and it was either static or infomercials. The Internet and computers were much less accessible to the average person, so you were only on there if you really wanted it. The first computer dad built (instead of buying another Tandy from RadioShack) cost $3000 in 1992. It was a 486 DX/2 66mHz with a 300mb hard drive, 32 megs of RAM, Soundblaster Pro audio, 56k modem, and a bunch of other shit I'm forgetting. The guy at the computer parts store tried to talk him out of the hard drive and modem, saying, "You'll never fill a 300 meg hard drive" and "the fastest pages out there only connect at 14.4!" Email used to go out once a day at midnight, when it was cheapest to transmit. Before html web pages were common you had to dial in to bulletin board systems - and you could only connect to them if you had their phone number. I remember installing Windows 95 from floppy disks. I remember in school when they posted up notices that the school was not going to have Internet for a day because they were upgrading to a T1 line (1.544Mb/sec),which was something I'd only heard of on the X-Files.

The 90s was the last good generation to grow up in. I feel sorry for all you younger anons that missed it.

Childhood was alot more simpler and sociable than it is today.
>Fridays were great as a kid because it usually meant going over to a friends house to stay up all night watching movies and playing games you rented at the Video store.
>Places like Skating rinks and bowling alleys were always packed and usually were full of our parents bowling on leagues and drinking beer while we went to the arcade and blew through all our money playing Mortal Kombat, Area 51, and Time Crisis 2.
>Going outside was not seen as dangerous back then and we were able to go great distances away from our houses to a field or in the woods to play til way past dark and our parents usually didn't give a fuck

Like someone else said. Throw away your computer and cell phone and you will know what it was like.
Owning a computer was too expensive for most people.
Television was way more important. Friday nights were for tv watching.
Video games could be hit or miss. You could spend a significant amount of money on a videogame and end up with a dud.
The satanic panic was a thing. Kind of like the SJW panic today, but with religion.

Thats why I loved Blockbusters. I was always allowed to rent one game (SNES and eventually PS1) when my parents wanted to rent some movies for the weekend. That was before they got divorced.

I hate how over political everything has become now. Why can't things just be fun for the sake of being fun and none of that far right or SJW shit? I mean there was a small fraction of it in the media during the 90s but not as bad as it is today.

Everything was brighter and had more colors.
People seemed to be happier, at least in 1994-2001. Some countries had a recession before that, which sucked.
Things were less politically correct but also less right-wing. In fact, politics weren't even as present as they're today.
Computers were slower and more difficult to use, but games were better.
People played with Sega Genesis/MegaDrive/Saturn or NES/SNES until mid-'90s and then either switched to PS1 or PC.
Phones were only used for calling and maybe texting.
People watched more television. Netflix didn't exist in its current form so movies were watched at home on VHS tapes and later DVDs if you had interest in the latest technology.
When they searched for services or businesses, they primarily used newspapers or yellow pages until the very end of the decade.
"Internet memes" did exist, but most people knew them through old media.
Social media didn't really exist and most social interaction online was in chatrooms or forums.
Pokemon was great.
People spent more time together.

Imagine not having cell phones or computers, because at the time they were extremely expensive and they didn't do much. Imagine not having to see fanatical SJWs, feminists fighting for the wrong reasons, people who don't identify with the pronouns other than he or she, and stupid "memes" or "trends". It was a simpler time where people weren't openly stupid and would go outside and converse with each other.

9/11 was a breaking point for the United States and the rise of handheld phones and portable computers was what brought the "downfall" of modern times.

Everyone is disconnected from reality and is stuck in their own fantasy worlds in the internet.

'93 and half of '94 were probably the best years of my life but I didn't get to enjoy most of the '90s. Dad got transferred to another town in September '94 so at 13 I was forced to leave my childhood home, all my friends and a potential girlfriend behind. This event scarred me deeply, I believe it defined who I am today and is responsible for my commitment issues and general gloominess.
Anyway, it took quite some time to fit in the new place but in the end I managed to make a few good friends that remain good friends today. Still, I'll always get a bittersweet feeling everytime someone mentions the '90s.

1986 here.
We had the Sega vs Nintendo console war that produced hundreds of great games. Classic Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead, WCW vs WWF when both were good and arguably the last semi-original musical movement in grunge, Trainspotting, Doom, the beginnings of the internet, less PC culture and not much in the way of war in the Western world after the Gulf in the early 90's.

Plus in the UK we got rid of Thatcher and had a few decent years before the Iraq war in '03 fucked it all up.

A nice time to grow up.

It seems like most people are too young to remember the 90s, so I'll give you the run down.

People were a lot more social and it mattered more, so the types of cliques (e.g. jocks, nerds, goth, ravers, skaters, etc.) held pretty true. Nerds were actually bullied during this time period (it wasn't cool then). The dress was extremely goofy. Baggy clothing was pretty much in for a lot of people that didn't fit into popular cliques (JNCO jeans, big hoodies); but those that were considered "popular" dressed a lot more modest than they do now (slim fitting "CHAMPION" shirts, tight fitting jeans, autism sneakers). Also, medium clean cut hair was the style. Some people gelled it, others didn't.

As far as home life and communication went, a lot of people had beepers since cell phones were expensive as hell. Only a few people actually had a computer and most nobody would sit on it all day except "nerds." Also, your phone line would be tied up if you were on the internet, so you'd have to pick up the phone and make sure nobody was on it but you'd get booted off if anyone picked up while you were on. It was frustrating as fuck sometimes, but it's all we knew.

The internet was actually an incredible place at that time. Normal faggots wouldn't even go close to the internet and the people that you actually met on it were... surprisingly the nicest people you'd ever talk to. It was extremely comfy being up at all hours of the night talking with strangers on IRC / BBS'. Everyone would share information and if you knew the right people, you could get your hands on warez.

cont.

I remember at that point in time, the internet wasn't polluted with garbage. If you came across personal websites, you'd find that people would share their interests and provide actual information and documentation behind it. It was really pretty quaint. It felt homey. You could reach out to people without them brushing you off and they'd be more than happy to correspond with you. Nowadays it seems like people can't bother to be assed with communicating at all. If they do, it'll be short lived, because muh ADHD, I guess.

Video games were fucking fun. They were literally nightmare mode and would often cause you to rage quit because some of the time they felt literally impossible to beat. Online gaming really wasn't a thought in anyone's mind. I mean, it crossed our minds like "Damn, it'd be cool if we could play this at our houses together," but it wasn't really important. Also, barely ANY girls played video games or used computers. There were a few. A very select few and they were absolute QT to the maximum. I'm talking literal girl of your dreams attractive, but it would always be that they lived impossibly far away, but you'd stay in touch. Speaking of which, I still remain in contact with most of the people I've met back then.

Honestly, I wish it would all go back. Being on the internet now just makes me want to never get back on. I guess I just keep coming back out of habit. I just remember the days when you could write code for hours on end, hop on IRC, share it with one another, and just talk for hours. Sure, you can do the same thing but memes have literally made everything cancer. Everyone memes. You can't escape it. It's infected the internet like the AIDs virus.

Quite frankly, I miss it so much, desu.

I have to disagree, even though I played Gothic 2 NOTR most of the time because it's gameplay is much more fluently. Gothic 1 has an unbeatable feeling, just magical: The music, the story, the atmosphere are much better than in Gothic 2.

However, wish the 00/90s were back. I don't like the way Internet has evolved, fucking Smartphones and Social Media. It's nothing special anymore to be happy to be home because you can carry your shit around, information can be found everywhere in the Internet, it just sucks.

Democratic Party propaganda everywhere throughout the mainstream media. But at least it was entertaining propaganda. About the only truth we had back in the early 90's was from Rush Limbaugh. They were always trying to sneak in leftist/anti-gun/anti-drug/anti-violence/anti-freethought bullshit into kids shows, late evening sitcoms, and the evening news. Clinton was raping the country, but eventually the Republicans regained control of Congress and minimized that damage...

Oh, but the games.....the console wars were THE SHIT. Video games got good....REALLY FUCKING GOOD, and all of the sudden there was finally real competition between companies to make good imaginative original innovative shit. Sega Genesis, Nintendo SNES, NEC TurboGrafx 16, Sony Playstation, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64.....an era like that will never exist again.

Born in 1991 here. Exactly this. Oh how I miss going to football/soccer practice, and trading Pokemon cards afterwards, scamming the other kids with my superior knowledge of the rarity of certain cards.

Just going outside without letting anyone but your mum or dad know, and just ring the doorbells of other kids so you could hang out outside together. I even got to finger a girl at age 11, tongue kissed my first girl at age 8, saw 2 girls naked at age 12 (the one I fingered and her cousin), and had loads of practice tongue kissing with both of them. Almost lost my virginity when we were 12, if only she didn't have her period.

How did all of that turn into sitting in front of my computer every waking hour, having had no sex for 4 years... I'm now a fat ugly fuck because I became an alcoholic after quitting heroin, coke and amphetamines.

I would do literally anything to be able to go back to when I was 8 years old and just live it all over again.

God how I miss playing Ghouls and Ghosts on my Sega Master System as a kid. Skateboarding with friends trying to learn the kickflip to impress the girl mentioned above...

You kids born after the 90s have NO FUCKING CLUE how awesome 1995-2007 or so were.

I still remember watching The Simpsons when suddenly my dad told me to change the channel because of 9/11. I was so pissed he turned off a Halloween episode that was airing, I loved those. He yelled at me in a panicked frenzy that 'if this is real there won't be any more Simpsons to watch, you better pay attention boy, this could turn into WW3!!!'.

The music was better, the internet was AMAZING compared to now (normies ruined it). I miss it so much my heart hurts.

You mean the white people that intentionally pretend to be black people to trigger faggots like you? Sure.

>Like it or not, Twitter and its accessibility on smartphones brought in all the retarded ghetto niggers.
No, the decline in price of cellular devices did. Moreover, the fact that so many white people bought into black people memes is what caused it to propagate.

>The simple "say something short and meaningless with bad spelling" concept, basically a text, brought in the braindead monkeys en masse. You cannot possibly deny this.
If by brain dead monkey, you mean stupid people, sure. I can buy that. I'm not sure why you sit there complaining about blacks ruining the Internet, yet you yourself have contributed nothing to technology to even begin complaining. You're just sitting here shitposting about race. Don't forget, you're just a consumer yourself.

>both biological parents
part of me still feels pity when i hear somebody say "my mom" instead of "my parents." or if they say "step-" anything. Step-By-Step was a funny show because the show's stepfamily was much more stable and enriching than even any *traditional* family in real life. like lol ok sure.

>racial stereotypes, overwhelming number of white leads, etc.
this is noteworthy not because it was more pronounced in the 90s. but because it has not changed whatsoever. and i don't believe in "tokenism" as some people call it. like making the mexican kid the basketball star for no reason. i genuinely think there is value to portraying the nuances of humanity in tv and movies. i think that's why kids are so fucking retarded. not because of *too much* media. but because the media they consume is shit. think about it. nobody ever says "people who read lots of books read too much." but they say "people who watch lots of tv watch too much tv." so what's the difference? books are generally considered enriching. there are trashy books too. but for the most part, books provide something meaningful. they teach people different viewpoints. tv is just attractive people, a dumbfuck storyline, and a shitton of commercials. movies basically the same.

>tv and movies
clear decline in quality and imagination since the 90s. not even biased. all movies now are 1)le nerdy superhero shit, 2)edgy anti-hero shit, 3)scary movies, 4)poor people problems or 3rd world problems. nothing like national lampoon. or old adam sandler stuff. or something out of left field like roger rabbit or space jam. it's batman, a batman prequel, a batman spin-off with batman villains, and batman with legos. it's fucking enraging.

Spent a bunch of time playing outside with other neighborhood kids, dingdong ditches, peeing in public places and so on.
Plenty of tv watching, being bored and so on. There was really nothing good at that time, schools were strict as fuck too. It was a time when it was legal for teachers here to slap your dumb head and make you stand in the hallway if you were lazy or fucked around.
