Post pitches here. Executive summaries of quests you want to run. Half-baked ideas you dreamt about while being too high or too drunk to care.

Another Round of that Erfworld quest that was untimely quit
>>
A few of mine:

>You were an astronaut, or just a stupidly rich space tourist (probably the latter), and that's what you remember when you wake up in a fancy room with the words SIMULATION blinking in red in the corner of your vision.
Basically, welcome in The Culture. Enjoy it, and get drafted into Special Circumstances to do awful deeds that disgust you or not.

>You're waiting for your daughter, late at night, worry and anger both growing and growing while you pace restlessly your living room. When the front door finally opens, you rush at it, ready to shout or even God forbid, slap her, when all you see is a ragged mess of blood, bruises and torn mess. "Don't worry Dad, most of it isn't mi—" she starts before falling unconscious into your arms.
Your daughter is a superhero, how will you keep her in the right path and protect her while she deals with both her full teenaged girl life AND being a superhero. Also, you might have a life too, a job, relations (even some with other women!).

>Something something magic as a partner dancing analogy.
I haven't really given that one a lot of thought, but dealing with a NPC the MC/players might hate or dislike seems like a fun idea to me. I dunno.

>>7486
Let's try before being too fast out condemning them. I'm sure there's some leeway into that particular rule, or it might even be relaxed when they see how bad it is.

I never run one before but i've got a couple ideas.

Humorous adventures of an evil overlord. Intended to be oneshotty in nature. I was gonna post it on /tg/ yesterday... but /qst/ appearing and the drama that came with it sort of... waylaid that

Otherwise I had this merfolk civ thing i was also working on. Same /tg/ concern applies.

you are a salaryman, a very small and inefficient cog in a very very big and inefficient machine
normally, if all goes well, you will retire a salaryman shortly before dying
if not, it's karoshi, or worse, disgrace and joblessness, in a society where money means life and social standing is worth more than life itself
you're fresh out of school, though, and your respect for normalcy is at an all-time low, after seeing one of your colleagues commit suicide on account of bad grades shortly before graduation
there must be another way. there simply must.

So wait, let me get this straight

We can't have metathreads here? We have a board to ourselves now and we can't have a qtg or any metathreads about questing or quests? What insanity is that?

>>7772
Well nothing stopping me from posting it. I just have to figure out which board I should post it on.

Like I don't think quests are permanently or wholly exiled from /tg/ (yet). So I feel like I could post it there. Downside being that the whole existence of /qst/ might stigmatize its existence there.

Posting it on /qst/ might help with the slight shitposting problem, plus new board new audience. And it'd my first quest anyways. But I still feel a little bit of the drama about. Plus new board smell.

If I posted it today/tomorrow, where should it go?
>>
>>7904
That's what the mods have put in the rules.

But they're only deleting posts stating the rules, so maybe we're fine? Maybe we can have meta threads up until this becomes a real board, then we have to stop?

I dunno, they're not moving /tg/ quests here either, so... I guess none of the rules are being enforced yet, and you're good to continue. That's my best guess.
>>
>>7941
I have literally no idea. I'm going to try to run a short quest myself here this week-end, if it's too bad, I'll probably stop doing quests on 4chan altogether.

probably here.

I thought about making one but I decided to wait until everyone arguing has given up or changed what they want to change. Once the board stabilizes i think it'll be a good place, but i don't want to want my time until then. I've participated in a few of other people's quests here already though, so feel free to do whatever you want
>>
>>7941
Posting it on /tg/ is the careful option.

If threads start getting moved, you can just pick up here. Are you totally new to questing, or are you someone who has followed quests on /tg/? If the latter, that's more reason to post on /tg/, as we should really be looking to see how many true newcomers this board can attract.

If you don't mind possibly losing your early threads and you're totally 100% new to questing, I'd say post it here.
>>
>>7948
>But they're only deleting posts stating the rules, so maybe we're fine? Maybe we can have meta threads up until this becomes a real board, then we have to stop?
But then, where would the meta threads go? Where would new QMs go to make new ideas, or get tips on writing?

none of my quests would exist if it weren't for QTG. I got some good ideas from that.

I don't know, I don't like the oekaki at all. It's not very sophisticated, lacks a lot of features, and if I was going to make anything that I would deem sharp enough for a quest; I would use an actual image editing program.

I'm glad some people can stick with it, but it's not worth the hassle. Paint.net can already do everything it does ten times faster.

I'm not new to questing. I think i started a couple years ago back when Teen Titans CYOA was a thing. It then moved to /tg/ and i've since then participated in Cyclops Civ Quest, Pandora Quest, and a couple more things.

Mostly as a participant and art guy.

I might not mind losing the early threads as.. Like I said this first thing I wanted to attempt was a one shot.

But I feel I like the pace of /tg/ a bit more. In that... if I say, make something that isn't popular or is just bad, at least it slides off the board relatively quick.

I heard there was a 48 hour sage on this board.

Well, I've never played but two games of D&D, so this whole sort of business is completely foreign to me. However, I do like writing and telling stories, and this seems like it could be an interesting format for it.

So, here's one that I'm gonna pitch.

>Savior
You're the great-great-great granchild of a mighty warrior, who once saved his entire city from the clutches of a vicious dragon. There hasn't been much call for warriors in recent years though, so aside from the rigorous training you recieved as a child you're not at all qualified to save the small city you live in.

The wail of a dragon is heard far off in the distance, as you take your walk through the snow, picking up Christmas presents for the family. What do you do?
>>
The "no meta threads" rule is bullshit and I hope the mods get rid of it.

>>8427
I think could be frustrating to play, because as a stand we could only interact with the world when your user summons you. On top of that, it'll be annoying having to protect some idiot human the whole time; it'll be like a escort quest on steroids.

You might be able to get it to work if the human character is super likable and charismatic, to the point that the players genuinely want to protect them from harm.

>>9265
>but how in-depth should I actually need to be?
That's up to your discretion.

If your quest list lighthearted and silly, then you probably don't need much detailed worldbuilding.
If your quest incorporates existing general fantasy tropes, then you can the players will already be vaguely familiar with the setting so you won't have to fret about worldbuilding either.

I guess it all depends on the tone and nature of the setting itself. However, I do recommend you keep the core concept of the setting relatively simple — it's not good to start a quests with a wall of exposition text.

>>7529
The superhero dad is a creative twist on the genre. and I'd be keen to play it.
>>
>>9476
Well the world building is more as a cheatsheet for consistency for myself. But I was wondering if I should get really detailed with it?

The world is gonna be the same, but my campaigns are gonna be designed kind of DnD ones. So for instance the first campaign I am gonna hopefully run is to defeat the Lord of the Underworld, and so I will have the base world, then have the Lord of the Underworld parameters so I can look at that and stuff, or something. You get what I mean hopefully.

I would love for someone to run a fantasy Star Trek inspired quest.

By that I mean, a philosophical,character-driven quest with a "progressive" worldview. It would be so refreshing to leave the shitty "real"politik of the current fantasy authors.
>>
>>9510
>Well the world building is more as a cheatsheet for consistency for myself. But I was wondering if I should get really detailed with it?
In that case, go for it. The less you have to improvise and make up on the stop, the easier it will be when your players inevitably go off the rails.
>>
>>7462
Not mine, but

The hero has been chosen by the gods, and has set off to save the people from the monsters and rid the world of the Dark Lord.

YOUR job is to pick up the pieces. Rebuild invaded settlements, shore up militia to survive even without the hero, gather up inspired volunteers to join the hero's entourage, and keep an ear out for public opinion and unrest. All while the hero carves a bloody path through the monsters faster than you could ever hope to match. But what kind of self-respecting big brother would let that stop him?

Transformers spinoff quest called Thundertron and the Star Seekers. Giant robot space piratey goodness, with beast modes, quips and gore. Where I disregard the obsolete crap that is the Aligned novel and make up new stuff that could go in the IDWverse.

>You are an Autobot stranded in a tiny escape pod with a Decepticon. Just so happens the war ended at a very inopportune time for the both of you. The two of you are packed in here back-to-back like a couple of little organic fish. Your fuel levels are hovering at 3%, there's a nice number of holes in your plating and internals, and you're pretty sure that the only reason he hasn't killed you yet is that he's in the same situation. You still hold on to some hope that he's abstaining out of the kindness of his spark, though.

I wanted to make a quest based around themes from naval fiction like Master and Commander and space operas like Legend of Galactic Heroes.

Basically, I want to run a type of quest which centers around humanity's first interstellar war. I figured that the character could start out as apart of Earth's "merchant marine," leading a fleet of vessels that export goods to the colonies.

The character's fleet makes contact with a hostile fleet, retreats after taking a few losses, and the character is made to join Earth's navy as a reserve admiral for their trouble.

I wanted it to focus around things like space action, but at the same time, logistics, crew management, and fleet upkeep.

I have a few reservations about it, however, because I'm not sure how realistic I'd be able to make it, and I'm also not sure if my writing's up to snuff to make something like this entertaining.

A story about three magical assassin apprentices on a quest to murder a princess. You can choose one of the three:

>The youngest, but the most adept. Hell bent on completing the task and becoming a true assassin. Kills whenever possible, argues with allies.

>The second oldest, prefers a pacific approach to things. Is the best equipped for stealth and incapacitation. Wants to bring the princess back alive.

>Oldest of the three. Great with magic but sucks at rogue talents. Was once a royal wizard that taught the princess, has an unspecified past with her. Knows the castle inside and out.

I want to do art for it. I'm making this up right now thanks to you, and I need a bit to work out the asthetics.

Would anyone be interested in this?

Too many, yet all bit too long. Something in setting I've been throwing around in my head - sorta modern fantasy.

A man is tasked to recover an artifact from some ruins ( recently opened by earthquake ) by a rich bloke and assembles a group to do so. Choosing and hiring, enjoing the companionship and adventure before getting brutally murdered.

Maybe on weekend...

You are Agent 52 of the newly established Secret Service. Under the dual command of Agent 1 and Agent 2 (whoever is in the field at the time between them is Agent 2 while whomever is still in the main office is Agent 1)

Your mission is to investigate threats of violence against the office of the president and investigate seditious ongoings and the forgery of money.

You have your horse, your hat, your badge, a gun, and some interesting devices offered you by the Service toward these investigations.

So pull back the hammer and ride off into the uncertainty of the Wild Wild Qwest.
>>
>Republic City Quest (Avatar)
You play a citizen of Republic City sometime in-between TLA and LoK. After Aang dies but before Korra is fully trained. You can be anything from a new metal bender cop, to a pro-bender, to an air acolyte, to a non-bender just trying to survive, or anything in-between. The plot would deal with the Triad doing gang stuff and whatever else depending on the players' choices.

>Hogwarts Quest
You are a new student starting your first year at Hogwarts.Set in this year.

>Star Wars: Padawan Quest
You are a new Padawan joining your Master as an adviser to the ruler of [insert planet here]. Set in the Old Republic, (but after Darth Bane, so no Sith shenanigans) it is a time of recovery in the galaxy coming off the great Hundreds Year War. The Republic currently consist of only worlds in the galactic center and the only other huge power in the galaxy is Hutt/Zygerrian Empire in the Outer Rim. In-between these two is the independent zone full of systems and planets under their own rule. The Jedi are at the height of their power right now and spread throughout the galaxy. Currently based on a planet in the independent zone. The quest would deal with the politics of [Planet] and be mostly localized there with the occasional jaunt across the galaxy.
>>
>Mahou Shonen Quest
You are the first and only Mahou Shonen in a world filled with Mahou Shoujos. Appearance wise, you would be liken to a Kamen Rider or Power Ranger, while the Shoujos are as you would think of them to be. Yes, there will be waifus.

>Dragon Golem Quest
An artificially created dragon made from metal and flesh breaks free from his creator's control. How it goes is up to the players.

And one I have no name for and not even sure I want to do: You are a member in a adventuring team. Unfortunately, every other member is part of the leader's harem. Will you break from the team and go solo, be apart of the harem, or make the harem go after you?
Again, not even sure if I like that one, but it's something.
>>
>>10736
Conflict on all sides is what I'm aiming for.

You can split up, but the other two default to their own story lines while you control the chosen character. You'll have three attempts to conduct the assassination, but you can use the two other attempts to gather information, place items, bribe/kill/abduct detainers, etc.

The opportunities are as follows:

> The middle of the day, disguised as a courtier or a worker at the castle.

> A large ball where the princess is the hostess.

> The dead of night, when the castle is most empty.

You can choose a different protagonist for each mission, or keep choosing the same one.

The other two will help you or hinder you depending on your choices.
>>
>Paranormal investigation quest, set in a small town, with an emphasis on problem-solving and dealing with small-time local spirits/mythical creatures, rather than world-ending threats; some combat and danger, with the main character's main strength being his/her wits and ghost-hunting tools. Think Scooby-Doo, only the whole thing would take place in a single small town, and "the gang" wouldn't be together yet.
>>
I want to run a quest where the player is a member of H.I.V.E. from the DC universe. Basically a metahuman hench for hire (players would be able to choose their powers, from hyper competent human to something more Teen Titans level)/

We'd be a mercanary hench for hire with our employers ranging from simple but rich normies too the likes of The Penguin and Lex Luthor.

Shenanigans ensue as you and two to four other teenage super wannabee villains engage in criminal activities and try to build a goodreputation.

I thought this up a minute ago and instantly realized the potential.

>Codename: MOBY DICK QUEST

>Start out as a male/female character. "Call me _____."

>Visit a saloon, make friends with either a negro cannibal or a user-created character.

>Hear talk about a whaling ship which users can name.

>Get hired and set sail the next day with the friend you met at the saloon.

>The rest of the quest resembles the voyage of the Pequod in "Moby Dick," hunting whales, encountering creatures of the deep, bumping into other ships, and who knows what else. All with user input.

>Chase after Moby Dick or even some other user-created/named creature.

>Create a new crew in place of the Pequod crew from the book. User-created captain, first mate, cook, etc.

>Get acquainted with the ship itself, explore the deck, live and laugh with your crew members.

>Maybe make a map of the world's oceans similar to pic related with locations of interest charted here and there. Undiscovered locations will show up as well.

There's probably even more stuff that could be added, this is all literally off the top of my head. I think it sounds amazing and fun as hell, though it would require some dedication. Thoughts?

To expand on this, the first thread would start of with a headmaster giving someone the sales pitch for the players' contract while the players run a small obstacle course. It would go-

Their abilities are
(main power)
(minor power/skill)
(skill)

Good at
(positive character trait)

but has a side of
(negative positive trait)

The players would roll throughout the course with no real way to fail but their performance would be determined by the rolls along with good strategy (in accordance with their powers). How well they do determines what kind of client and job they start off with. How well they do on their first job determines future jobs.

I have a small roster of both canon and made up characters to fill in the cast and the first few threads would have plot hooks thrown out to see what kind of over-arching plot the quest would have.

The players would be rolling 3d20s best of first three versus a DC I set in accordance to the task and their abilities.
>>
I've participated in some quests previously, and run some RPGs as well, but never ran a quest thread before.
Got an idea though:

>Redshirt Quest
>Setting and gameplay based on the beta Death or Glory game
>Posters collectively control an utterly disposable raw recruit, sent on a likely suicide mission
>moreover, their character isn't even treated as a PC by their squad (party), just as another generic and replaceable nobody.
>The first mission is a shambles, as you'd expect.
>The twist is that after utterly failing and the entire squad dying, the main character wakes up in a field hospital despite surely dying.
>Turns out they are entirely unkillable, though it takes a while for themselves, and the brass, to recognise this.

>Despite this, they're still all but useless in combat until they recieve training/decent equipment/promotions.
>The average thread would involve carrying out high-risk mission, interspersed with interactions with NPCs.
>Drama stems primarily from trying to keep friends and allies alive, completing missions, climbing the ranks, figuring out why the PC can't die, and resolving the grand conflict.
>Waifu potential would exist, but would be relatively risky, as death in this quest is likely to be both frequent and indiscriminate.

Might run a one-off quest first to get a feel for quest running.

Wuxia style quest from the view of a royal surveyor who gets trapped in the ruins of a desert sect.

>I like DOOM
>I like Infinity
>Why don't we try meshing the two?

This quest idea had the protag, (DoomGuy of course, though we'd give him a name) starting the story working security at a research lab put up as a joint venture between Praxis Labs and Union Aerospace. Things literally go to hell and we get to guide DoomGuy through all the craziness. Since at least in the original game, the gates of Hell get opened through experiments with teleporters, this allows DoomGuy to visit all sorts of neat places in the Infinity-verse (Though I think we'd need to go through Hell first...)

>We could see cyborg catgirls rip and tear some demons on Bakunin after Praxis' goof.
>Fight alongside crusaders and DEUS VULT on Paradiso
>Get caught in the mother of all three-ways (NOT the good kind) as we're between the forces of Hell and the Combined Army

Just sounds like a fun little larf in my head.

Depending on which aspects it's inspired by, this could gain a lot of readers.

I think Mahou Shonen Quest's been done. The protagonist turned out to more or less be Hayate the Combat Butler and Kamen Rider was his classmate instead. I only read a few threads of it, but it was around for a while.

Fuck. Well that's one into the "maybe trash" pile. Got a name for that one?

How about a quest that pits the author (OP) against the anons, who will be controlling the MC? the author will try to throw challenges, puzzles, and confusion at the MC to halt the progress of the MC, who will be trying to complete a task, either herculian (like some rpg stuff), or menial (getting to work on time)

Mostly hated though.

I want to run a succesful and drama-free Evolution game with equal evolution between the animals and everyone were cool with each other.

I would love to run something like that, but I wouldn't even know where to start when designing a new card game.

On that note, what would be the best way to go about designing said fake card game? Thinking about the suggestion, I'd kind of like to.

There was a manga about that, wasn't there? They never really described the game or how it worked, only how people lived and dealt with it.

I think so, yeah. Still, if this were a quest, I'm assuming the players would want to actually play it and strategize and such.

I can don't have the time or the talent to do a quest so I'm just throwing out a pitch here. if anyone wants to actually run this quest go right on ahead and use it.

>wanted: dead or alive
set in the world of mark millers wanted. your someone who never would have amounted to anything in the grand scheme of things, until the day your powers arrived.
the fraternity wants to either kill you or recruit you to make up for their loses form the villain civil war, others like you want the reveal the truth to the world and you just want to know why you have these powers.
will you join the fraternity and rise to the top of the real ruling class of the world or will you join the rebels and become a hero?

You wake up to the related video playing on your television. You are laying on the couch in your living room, which has only one window that is covered by a curtain. As the broadcast ends, a thump against your front door grabs your attention. What do you do?

To me it seems like there was a meteorologist who had been driven insane, and who couldn't really articulate what he had seen, since most scientists aren't poetic, and that was all he could think to write.

Hi fellas, i've been thinking... Can it be possible to make a board game (like Chess or something) as a quest? Like rolling to make the teams and then make the dudes decide what move to where.

For example, a Ludo game would be rolling 1d4 to define who's over who, then create the whole board and make them roll 1d6 to say how much the dice goes, and keep it like this until X team wins.

Anyways, bump.

Basically just factions trying to control a trading city. They each have their weaknesses and strengths. It's more fit for /tg/, tho, because it's collaborative

Someday I wanna run with Final Fantasy's Gilgamesh as the main character.

I haven't figured out anything besides that.
>>
>>15019
I've actually had something like that in my head for a while. My main concern is not knowing how to keep things from going stale, though.
>>
>>25430
If you're intending to have interactions with other "player" NPCs, as in Yu-Gi-Oh, freshness and variety would mostly stem from them having unique cards, personalities, motivations, etc.
If you're concerned about the gameplay becoming stale, having basic mechanics with a decent amount of depth and a fair-sized card pool should offer enough variety to run at least the first few threads.
Also, you realise most people here are from /tg/? If there's one thing we're used to it's the tedium of card games.

You make very solid points. Now all it comes down to is if I can cook up a working system.
As a kid, I did make a couple of custom card games, but all were easily broken; still, it was a fun experience, even if I did get beaten at my own game.
