>QM Question
What was the most unexpected thing your players did in your quest?

>Player Question
What was the best revelation/plot twist dropped on you in a quest?

>Bonus Question
How much of an actual character do you like your QMC to be in the beginning of the quest? Ranging from a complete blank slate to a complicated person with a lot of backstory, connections and relationships.

PSA: Due to the nature of the 3 day autosage it might be preferable when using the catalog to switch the [Sort By:] option to [Last Reply]. That way you'll still see active quests at the top even if they are autosaging.

>QM Question
I can't recall which one, but I was very fond of that one write-in. I typically enjoy it when my players pleasantly surprise me.

>Player Question
I wish, I almost never stick around long enough for that to happen.

>Bonus Question
Somewhat medium, there's already an established tone but that's mostly on surface details that give me a lot of room to improvise as I go along.

Is there any interest in a Star Wars ARC Trooper Quest? Elite Operative operating operatively on solo missions and sometimes fighting in large scale operations in the thick of battlefields alongside both Clone brothers and Jedi alike.

If not, I'll just go ahead with my plans for a series of One Shots following a Half Orc Mercenary in his line of work through different contracts in a Traditional Dark Fantasy World.

I like them to be actual people with traits flaws and motivations etc etc. I feel like starts where you just create someone in a prompt or two are harder to write characters for

QM Protip #8: If you make a product and the consumer doesn't want it do not blame the consumer.
>>
>>503735
True, and not enough people seem to know that.

But in an effort to head off anyone who may take that tip to the extreme, you also cannot make a quality product when you don't have your heart in it.
You must find a balance. I have seen too many QMs fall into both traps.
>>
>>503735
What if the consumer wants the product desperately but I hate them and think the consumers are retarded.

Can I blame the consumer then?
>>
>>503881
No. The consumer is never at fault for what they like no matter how retarded they, or the product itself, are. The consumer is blameless in all cases, including when the consumer is dumb and has no idea how to use the product properly.
>>
>>503881
Well, technically, yeah. Although why would you hate them for wanting your stuff? Unless you're a competitor to a succeeding producer, in which case, tough luck.

Also, can anybody tell me why Trick is so vitriolic all the time?
>>
>>503995
From a business point of view sure, but ofc you can hate the consumers for being retarded
>>
>>504014
Of course. For instance, hating any particularly stupid decisions the consumer makes.

>>503999
He's not being vitriolic he's being characteristic.
>>
>>502707
Pilot quest is restarting, come on over and we'll get started.

>>503849
>>
>>503735
But Quests aren't products for consumers, or is this just a general 'life' protip?
>>
>>504070
Everything purveyed to an audience is a product to be consumed, be it interactive media, educational information, or magical girls attempting high octane industrial warfare.

"Product" is synonymous with "all that may be desired for any exchange of time, attention, or monetary worth," and for this integral frame of 4chan Quests are the product and Players are the consumers.

This also applies to everything that has ever existed and can be sold or bought, including people, the Stars, our Sun, the Moon, the West Pacific, historical claims, buying Retweets, and so on.
>>
>>504187
The short version of the definition of a consumer product is the follow:
"any article, or component part thereof, produced or distributed (i) for sale to a consumer for use in or around a permanent or temporary household or residence, a school, [...]"

Quests aren't sold on this site. Never have been as far as I know. They're put up on display for anyone to join in at any given time when it's active. Like a free game. If anything, it's a by-product as a result of someone with a writing hobby branching out rather than a consumer product.

I think Trick is worried that his success as a QM is because of him feeding starving GOT autists. He tries to "punk" his fan base because he resents them but he can't bring himself to kill the quest because he likes the attention and ego stroking.

Think Anno and Evangelion. He hates the otaku and wants to satirize them, but at the end of the day he sleeps in a bed paid for by Asuka body pillows by the very people he hates.

Is there any QM with a worse relationship with his fan base?

Considering it's apparently mostly planetary, I'd expect an interesting planet or planets to be on.

And maybe include something about improvisation if it's action heavy. We're space miners, so we're probably getting shafted by the megacorps, and I'd expect most of our equipment to be jury-rigged.

When I was a newbie QM running LGA and bits of Strike Witches of Gallia, I had people like Vaelys in my threads have autismal fits of rage if something in the Quest didn't go their way, even if it made sense from a narrative point of view. Vaelys was the loudest in no small part because he was in the IRC at the time and thus was the one to shout at me to change things. Me being the spineless coward at the time I cajoled to him because I thought he was providing sound advice.

Man that was bad times. People like him tanked the one Quest I really wanted to run after LGA as well (Meropis Undersea Explorers). It almost killed my drive to Quest.
>>
An important question for you all:

would you like to have a main goal in said quest something that will drive our miner to risk his/her life in what could be possibly uncharted/hazardous planets and the like?

if so, would you like said goal to be timed? to give the sense of urgency?

>>504392
Of course

We will be visiting different planet, our ship (and our suit) must be ready to face hazards like radiation, strong gravity, Atmospheric pressure, time distorting phenomenons and so on.

>>504407
that as well. but in the end of the day, we are miners not some gun blazing merc or such.

There will be combat, yes. but it is not the main focus. Mining is.

>>504388
>Chargen

i had three characters in mind but i feel like it would be better if we were to focus on one pre made character. Feel free to prove me wrong though.
>>

>>504442

I had something like this in mind.
>>
>>504457
Eh, I feel that chargen would be better than having a premade character for space mining.
>>
>>504457
There should be a point to why the MC mines stuff in horrific conditions. Perhaps you're trying to raise money for family or something.

> chargen
I wouldn't do chargen. If you do chargen, have it be a narrative type of chargen, the background of the MC.

And never chargen gender. At least IMO, that's asking for trouble.
>>
>>504457
Give us a choice of premade characters. Chargen is pain and autismal anguish.
>>
>>504457
Go chargen. It's good if you give meaningful choices.
>>
>>504457
>would you like to have a main goal in said quest something that will drive our miner to risk his/her life in what could be possibly uncharted/hazardous planets and the like?
Get enough credit/money/currency to afford the medical attention a dear, sick family member needs? Or maybe enough money to send home to feed your otherwise poor family?

Feels like a mining gig is a poor man's choice and the man comes from a poor background.

>>504457
Pre-made characters have always come out better than chargen-made ones in my experience. It's up to you. I'd let the players choose between three characters, and then have the two that wasn't chosen as recurring characters.
>>
>>504457

Two last questions:

While i want it to be mostly narrative , What is your stance on Stats and constant dice rolls in the quest?

how would you like mining to be handled in the quest? this is honestly the most important question, i would like to see your take on.

For example, our miner made it to the highly toxic planet of Vulse or its less toxic moon(s). Now what?

Also what is your impression on our starting system? highly subjected to change

>>502707

>QM Question

Well... In my first quest, it was actually going for switching perspective on the story through the eyes of supporting characters and, in time, liking some of them more than the MC herself.

In my current quest? Picking the "lol I'm teh evil nao!" route for a little bit, though it was a batch of bad rolls that triggered it.

>Player Question

I want to say Maverick Hunter Quest? Well, at least for having the ground support guy be a total dick to us the whole time, but competent and almost chatty with Anode by the last mission turn Maverick to set up the second "Season" was breddy gud IMO.

You are currently twelve kilometers above the surface of an alien world. You are falling. This is widely acknowledged as one of the worst activities to engage in while visiting the lower stratosphere.

However, you are paid very well to do it. You are a fall guy, after all.

You reach up to check the environmental seals of your combat suit, the thick goo of the impact jello suppressing trembling fingers. The techies at NeoLogos designed their drop pods with several principles in mind. The pods had to be, in order of importance, cheap, disposable, accurate, and reliable. Impact gel that wasn’t a crippling topological neurotoxin was sacrificed for the sake of cheapness. Should any of NeoLogos' employees be contaminated by the impact gel, the ultra-corp would be on the line for millions of credits in comp. That's probably why everyone they send down in one of these things is a contract worker.

An icon appears on your visor, blinking softly. Corporate wants a word. Probably to get that sweet sweet deniability should everything go pear-shaped. You click it, and a woman’s face appears.

“Hello HIPR representative squadron Zulu-Epsilon. Today you will be engaging in some high pressure head hunting via leveraging hyper-lethal vectors during the recruitment process. Your primary target for aggressive de-integration is the Kagokushi Genomics Division. In particular, acquisition of Dr. Tachibana’s employment is considered a high priority actionable item. Corporate prefers that as much Kagokushi human capital be reappropriated as possible; however, elimination is permissible to maintain market advantage.”

You shut down the Handler’s comm-icon, despite knowing it will probably crop up in your performance review. You have better things to do than decipher her corpro-dialect. You fiddle with your gun idly, attempting to dispel:
>>
>>504551
So essentially you want people to advertise their quest to you?
>>
>>504702
No need for that, I've read most quest here already, I'm looking for older but great quests
>>
>>504583
So non-anime RPG like quests with sorta original settings and decent writing.
Can't help you in any extremes there, most of the recent ones that showed potential died before getting anywhere like The Laughing Dog or Dark Spirit. As usual. I guess Totemist or Aspiring Emperor, if you like an abundance of female side characters. Both of those do skirt anime in some places but more in action and high fantasy than anime specific stuff. Throw Overhuman and Deniable Assets in there too. Maybe Northern beasts. Beacon Hunter maybe but I've only heard about it not read it. Snakecatcher ended recently and it was nice. For civ quests with more focus on characters than civ stuff Ogre Quest and Hive Queen Quest. AI Quest if you can withstand the sperge. That's all I got.

>>504700
>>504722
Speaking of...
>>
>>504658
>What is your stance on Stats
For what purpose? Stats might work in combat-heavy quests, but I don't see them fit into a mining quest where combat is third or below on the list of priorities/features.

>>504658
>how would you like mining to be handled in the quest?
Make the suit upgradeable in some ways. That way, players can choose between upgrades while considering future, possible planets.
>Increased Anti-Toxic Resistance
>Water-proofed
>Pressured against low or high gravity
etc.
Let players pick between the different modes/upgrades that they've bought or achieved upon choosing the planet for their next gig.

You could also possibly include a list of minerals and such and what each one is roughly worth. Also limited inventory space that can also be upgraded so as to force players to think more on what to take with them from dig sites, along with a Mining gear that can be upgraded to cut out stronger forms of metals, stones, and minerals.

Just a few suggestions from the top of my head.

I'm bitter at both of the dead quests I listed and many more before them for that very reason.
I could not participate in any because I have a life that didn't match when they run.
I catch up by archives and find one dead because lack of players, and that makes me mad at players, the other because the QM stopped having fun and that also makes me mad, or frustrated. It's a fine line. And somehow for all these years I'm not numb to this feeling.

I would actually recommend LGA. That quest gave me some serious feels reading through the archive and while LGA 2 has definitely improved on the actual play aspects of it (for instance the tank battles of LGA 1 pale in comparision) the more dramatic stakes of the first quest really help draw you into it as a story 'after the fact'. I also just like Schteel's writing style, so YMMV

Aw, thanks anon. You're great.
>>
>>504887
Ensure that you tailor the tension to the feeling you want each scene to create. If the gunfight is the focus of a post, make sure you build and either release or maintain tension (to be released in later posts) within that post. You can do this by writing a gunfight the same way you write a fist fight: movement through the environment, not having to much repetition of the same attacks, a sense of back and forth between the opponents and the potential for one to win with a trump card. Avoid blandly describing sitting in cover and plinking away at each other, even sniper duels involve mostly movement and battles of the mind over actually firing a shot.
>>
>>504868
>fuc
I missed that. Somehow.

>>504887
In DAQ the QM did it by not making things too detailed and every exchange of bullets mattered, the gunfights were notable more by changes of tactics than people just shooting at each other. In places where there was no back and forth things were over quick, double so for where civilians were involved.

I guess I should ask what kind of gunfight or tech level you're talking about to give a better example.
>>
>>504887

You dive for cover behind the steel counter, the loud ringing shots of their revolvers piercing the previously silent night.

You unholster your glock, flip off the safety and wait as they unload futilely unto your position.

As they run dry and begin reloading you pop up and steady your weapon on top of the counter

BLAM BLAM BLAM

The first two shots go wild but the second of the Dopinder brothers takes a bullet to the chest, knocking him off his feet and on his ass. As you bring your revolver to bear on the elder, he ducks behind a pillar.

You leap over the counter and rush his position as you hear him load the last bullet.

He turns back out to fire, cocking the hammer mid-movement right as you close the distance.

BLAM

His brains splatter on the linoleum floor. Falling back, he drops his gun and you instinctively leap backwards in case of an accidental misfire.

The gun CLINKS on the ground and lies peacefully there.

You bring your gun to the back of the younger of your two Indian assailants and empty the last of your magazine into his skull.

Two assassins down.

Just another 36 to go.

Fuck.

I don't care about the differences in questing environments but if your lifestyle doesn't work with long lived threads you'll probably have it easier on /tg/. As far as I've seen it just depends on what works best for you, the QM. Asking us is secondary to what makes the biggest differences for yourself.
>>

>>505019
Yeah this guy said it better.

Go with what keeps you comfy.

thinking of a quest where you're an illuminatus in the near future, would be kinda based on deus ex. any thoughts on the concept?
>>
>>505029
Assuming you only run it once a week or slightly more/less, /tg/ seems better suited for that kind of schedule.
>>
>>505054

Would 3 days straight, then a new thread be an OK schedule? Because I feel like I get an OK amount of players at the start, but by the end of a session I'm down to 1-2 players tops.
>>
>>505083
A thread's unlikely to last 3 days on /tg/ outside of generals, so if you want that /qst/ might be a better idea, as it tends to be glacially slow.

Update for the upcoming ARC Trooper Quest, if the interest for it was serious:

I'm starting it next Friday or Saturday as I'll be gone for the better part of this weekend and next week is a busy one. I'll drop into the /qtg/ close to the end of next week to announce the time I'll run it at. I should be able to make a twitter before then as well.
>>
>>505118

Yeah, that's what I figured. My players used to keep them alive with discussion and bumps after I ended a session when I ran on /tg/, but /qst/ is a lot easier to leave a thread overnight and run a continuation the next day.

One last question: Is the a case of running too long of a session? Would 6-8 hours be the max, or...?

>>
>>505147
Depends when you start. I'm in Australia so when the quest/s I follow start it's like 6 in the morning, and consequentially I actually prefer them to run long to make up for the fact I usually miss the first hour or two. But I imagine amongst US readers they'd prefer they not run much past 10 hours at the longest.
>>
>>505170

I usually start around 10 AM PST and run between 6-8 hours. I have tried to run a touch earlier and/or later than that, but then nobody shows up.
>>
>>505175
That'd probably be fine, you'd wrap up somewhat earlier than most quests, but not majorly so.
>>
>>505191

Yeah, I kind of try to leave stuff on the table for the next session instead of blowing out every idea I had in mind in one thread and then winging it for the next two days, so that's why I usually end a touch short. It also keeps the action and choices moving and the updates cranking at a slightly-slower-than-a-snail's pace.

>>
>>505848
face it, everything's been taken by now. give a fresh spin on an unoriginal concept.
>>
>>505848

Well, I mean, most works of fiction occur in a fantasy setting, and most forms of conflict in stories are externalized as a physical struggle. It's a tried and true formula. No need to worry about your idea at this stage. It just needs a bit more meat on it.

Like Monster Hunter Quest could be successful (though maybe already taken) and that's all it boils down into.
>>
>>505848
It's frankly impossible to make something "original". The best you can do is take a concept and try to make it unique as possible.

If that doesn't work then try a different concept.

Eyyy ya'll niggas want a preview?

"THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!" The woman clad in a lab coat bursts through the door into the command center.

"Who let this woman in?" A man in a markedly bare black admirals uniform asks while pouring over the imaging relayed from the SkyHawk Dagger 1-4. The SkyHawk speeds through the planet-spanning canyon on the world Coryner. The aircraft moves with an impressively efficient speed and course. Weaving effortlessly through the pillars and caves while staying as low as humanly possible to avoid detection.

"WHO AUTHORIZED THIS?!" The woman directly challenges the admiral and the entirety of the staff in the command center stare dumbfounded. Here was an admiral of the most elusive and highest organization in the UNSC, The Office of Naval Intelligence, or ONI for short. Yet this comparatively small woman had the audacity to stare him down. While the admiral remains passive and calm.

"May I remind you Dr. that it is ONI who authorize this entire endeavor. From your test subjects to the man and women who stand in this room. You will do well to know who exactly keeps the wheels rolling." The admiral cooly responds without looking from his display.

"That is beyond the point! They are not assassins they are soldiers!"

"They are whatever we need them to be. That is the point of a super-soldier."

"They are not ready fro solo operations! I have expressly made this clear over and over! Why in god's name has this been authorized!?"

"Because, Dr. Halsey..." The admiral finally deems her worthy to look at. "The program started with Seventy-Five participants. We have only Thirty-Three remaining. If they are as good as you claim then this should be nothing. Scalpels remember?"

"They are meant to be surgical strike TEAMS. Emphasis on teams but I'd doubt ONI would know anything of cooperation! You are needlessly putting their lives at risk!"

"What I'm doing is due to the necessity of the situation. You know about Harvest, you know what is coming; what is already here."

"Which is precisely why they should be working in teams!"

"Enough!" The admiral's composure finally cracks for the barest of moments and it feels like a bolt of thunder struck. The silence and hum of the instruments drowned out by his rage and then just like that the symphony of whirring machines returns.

I mean my idea in a less generically explained form is fantasy ghostbusters, roll around in a cart full of shit to deal with monsters from salt and iron to holy water and silver swords, going from town to town getting payed to deal with problems ranging from "the local spirits are tugging my hair because I cut down some trees, make them fuck off" to "theres a werewolf eating everyone in town". "If he dies I will have you disgraced, court-marshalled, and summarily executed." The Doctor grimly warns before turning away. Her footfalls the only sound beyond the machines.

"Ensign Richards!" The admiral calls out when the doors to the command center hiss shut.

"Yes, sir!"

"Get me a line to the Spartan. I have his orders ready."

"Sir!"

The admiral's eyes return to the display and the image of the SkyHawk racing through the canyon is replaced by that of a man clad in a skin-tight black bodysuit, head covered by a helmet of the same color.

"Damien-032. Reporting, Sir." A deep and powerful voice emanates from the helmet.

Unbeknownst to all in that center but one person whose eyes were built and changed to notice the small differences, the admiral's lips slightly twitched towards a smile. This was the future of humanity, of its survival. The Spartans.

Hey QTG, I've been following quests for over 3 years and playing quests for 2. One thing that really gets to me is the number of quests that I really like that die. And I'm not talking about quests that fade away for whatever reason, I mean quests that have a following and no shitstorms. The QM just disappears without so much as a note on twitter.

A question to QMs, why do you think this happens? Should there be more positive feedback? Are some people just not suited to QM? Is there a virus going around killing QMs in their sleep?

If there are any of you who do this disappearing thing and come back with another name, please tell me why.

Some QM's want constant discussion/positive feedback for gratification purposes. That way, it feels like people are really invested and and likes the quest which in turn makes the QM want to continue writing. Lurkers and quiet threads between updates have been the death of many quests that could have become great or top-tier with proper time and nurturing.

People keep saying that it's all on the QM's shoulders, but I beg to differ; quests are a two-sided project where both parts have to work together to keep it going.

Just my 2 cents.

I concur.
It also helps a lot better if the players can get into the protagonist's head and act/think in their place. The story this way becomes a cooperation between Players and QMs, making the QM responsible for only the worldbuilding, and NPCs.
>>
Would you guys in interest in a Mexican Space Princess luchador quest? Inspired from Sailor Moon and wrestling. Nothing solid. Just an idea.
>>
Yo, QM's due to the 3 day timer on threads and /qst/'s lack of massive use it would be nice if there were links to your new thread posted on the old one as some may keep the thread open with auto-update on and it would help them to migrate.
>>
>>506742
>>506771
I remember reading interviews of Harlan Ellison and George Orwell where they said that any writer that claims to do it because they love writing or making stories is bullshitting. It's not even about money. Its about the attention. It's ego gratification.

Writers are attention whores. It's just that simple.

If you want your favorite QM to show some more initiative and energy then charge up their batteries. Fan art and fan fiction makes QMs feel really good (I know it has for me), and simply replying and commenting makes them want to keep updating. If you don't have anything to say just post "I disagree/support this other anon's decision" or "I like/dislike this sudden plot twist". It might not feel like much but it helps.

>>506864
>It also helps a lot better if the players can get into the protagonist's head and act/think in their place. The story this way becomes a cooperation between Players and QMs.

This is why Sibella Quest is my favorite of my quests so far. We only get like a max of 25 IPs per thread. Last time we only got 19. But the sync is there between myself and the anons and it feels wonderful. It feels like I'm doing a tabletop RPG.

Too few QMs know that players don't actually like agency and too few players don't understand what agency means for their play.

I haven't done too much QM-ing yet, but as far as I've seen players need to understand the basic things about the protagonist, AND the situation the protagonist gets into/starts out from.

In the first few threads, you have to find the sweet spot where there are enough pointers about how the character would act, and where there aren't too many information that overburdens the players.

Like:
protag: he is a fresh necromancer, used to be the student of his tribe's shaman
situation:he is fleeing from his tribe, because he locked the soul of his love after she passed away in a disease.

it's one of the reason why fanfic quests start off easily; complex situations are easier to expose to the players, and they usually knew the setting as well without having to read walls of text before they can vote.
I think a general rule of thumb is to try and honor your player's write-ins when it's not specifically voted against, or invites disaster. Sometimes even then.
>>
So how would people feel about a civ quest that would dive in to the world for more traditional quest threads now and then? Like if great people show up in the civ dive into their life for awhile, or make character to run through major events in the civ's history.

FAITH AND IDEALS!

So, promoting quests using chunks of text is a thing now, right? Let me try.

While you were looking for someone of the Lords in the crowd, your gaze fell on a crooked figure nestled on a chair next to a small spiral staircase leading to the balcony for musicians. Maestro Paganini was slowly sipping cooled wine; around the tired master were bustling half-transparent figures of girls – either assistants or admirers. The girls seemed to be completely naked, yet not embarrassed by the fact in the slightest. They were constantly moving, bending, sometimes meeting and even merging into one another like drops of quicksilver spilled by a clumsy alchemist.

«Slimes,» you finally realized. You had seen similar creatures in Labyrintown. Under the effect of some magical processes, the simplest underground predators gained humanoid features and a semblance of mind. And these must have been their hellish variety.
The slime-demons met you with unfriendly grimaces, stretching toward you like the threads of a sea anemone protecting the shell of its hermit crab. A strong reek of acid assaulted your nose, and you remembered that a common middle-plane slime was able to dissolve a steel plate in a dozen minutes; these purple ones seemed to be much more caustic. But then Paganini moved his fingers slightly, and the 'anemone threads' moved apart, letting you pass to their master.

Now you could get a good look at the musician. Ehm, what can you say. Even a loving grandmother wouldn't call him pretty. The very concept of symmetry did not exist in the Reforged's gnarly body. The skull of improper shape was covered in unappetizing pimples; the eyes were of different sizes – the right one goggled like a toad's, the left one small, hidden under a heavy, plicated eyelid. The nose was long and slightly lopsided; the ears resembled a bat's; the blue lips froze in a halved smile: looking from the one side, it seemed mocking; looking from the other, it was bitter. The body itself wasn't particularly proportionate either: a giant hunchback that even the masterfully sewn tailcoat couldn't smooth over; arms long like a monkey's; legs like that of a grasshopper, with knees bent backwards. And fingers – long, pale, flexible like giant worms.

"I beg your pardon, young man* – you can still be called a human, correct?" Paganini's voice turned out to be unexpectedly thick and sonorous, like the sound of an old organ. "My muses drive pesky autograph hunters away from me, as well as those who desire to pull the old violinist into the Big Game. If that is what you came for, then I will say right away – be so kind to leave me alone and let us not spoil each others' evening."

>Even though he got plenty of people participating, had one highest consistent scores on suptg, and arguably had one of the most successful quests one this board.
Which, sadly, brings us back to the point that QM's care far more about discussion and positive feedback spoken aloud than quiet votes, both in their threads and on suptg.

Another one. Beware, spoilers.

Part 1:

Nonetheless, the commander of the Order found the strength to make a warm smile, as if you came to his family castle for a visit, not to his prison cell for an interrogation:
"Sir Heinrich! And here I was thinking when will you visit me. I would offer you to sit down, but alas, my present dwelling is hardly suited for receiving guests. Do not be shy though, you can take the bed if you want."

"It is fine, sir Simon, I will stand. For starters I would like to apologize for the recent concert, this will not not happen again."

"Oh, do not worry. After all, not in every jail prisoners are entertained with music. And I certainly did not expect this from a prison in Hell."

"Do you maybe have any complains about your conditions? As I understand, the local cuisine was not to your liking." You cast a look at the table with a tray with barely touched supper on it.

"No, no, send my respects to the cooks. I simply have no appetite. Aftereffects of possessing a cursed sword, you know."

"You know Sorrow is cursed?" you marvelled.

Reproach glimpsed in Montfort's eyes:
"Sir Heinrich, I participated in three Lightful crusades, managed to survive and even rise form a poor knight to a commander of the Order of the Holy Light. Did you really think it would be possible if I was an idiot? I do not possess a habit of thoughtlessly snatching at warlocks' things."

"But then why did you take the cursed blade?"

The commander shrugged his shoulders:
"Is it not obvious? You besieged us with overwhelming forces, I evaluated all the risks and took the sword to improve our chances. Although I will not be hiding it, this weapon caught my eyes as an extreme case measure right away. Thanks to you, this extreme case came much earlier than I imagined. However, everything was in vain. You conducted a successful assault before I had time to curb the cursed sword. Well, and when you sent us all to Hell - quite an impressive move I should say - everything I had left do was to give one last and deciding fight. Alas, your devilish allies did not even allow me that. It is funny even, I deemed the hearsays about the army of demons that the Necromantress is just about ready to crush upon the Kingdom a bit... exaggerated."
>>
>>508006

Part 2:

"The irony is, they were exaggerated. Right until you arranged the largest Lightful crusade in history. I was already about to give princess Morgause out to you on a silver plate, and instead had to make alliance with her and the Abyss just to have at least a shadowy chance to talk Uther into stopping this madness. You of all people should know that an army of Light is capable of destroying everything in its way, paying no attention to rights and wrongs."

"Yes, yes, "for Light knows them that are Its"," the knight gave you an acrimonious smile. "And you were so convinced that there are more righteous men than sinners on this island, you renounced your vows, sacrificed your soul, and were cursed by the Heavenly Throne. This is a mark of a Traitor on your face, is it not?"

"I may not be an ideal of knighthood, but Avalon is not the bastion of Evil we were told about. As in any part of the Kingdom, there are enough both evildoers and innocent souls here. In the times past a single righteous man would be enough to save a city from the wrath of Light, and even Messiah himself first brought the word, and took the sword only after. You on the other hand decided not to give the island a single chance and struck with the full might, root and branch."

"Well, times change, sir Heinrich. But be sure, this crusade is not a whim of the Order's chiefs, not a fruit of cleric or earthly princes. The Light itself leads it. If the Heavenly King gives us an order, can we, his knights, disobey? However, I see disagreement in your red eyes. I assume they make you see the world in a... somewhat different light."

"Oh yes, they somewhat widen the colour range. It turns out the world is not only black and white."

"They say devil is in the tones. Although, you came here not for philosophical discussions, did you? I am afraid that the level of my home education will not allow myself to be a worthy opponent in a scientific debate. I should confess, sometimes during conversations with heretics I have to close my ears and read Pater, as my rough mind is simply unable to create counter-arguments to their orderly constructions."

"Are you not afraid to stray away from the truth like this?"

"No, as truth is on my side, for I am on the side of Light," Montfort peremptory said. "This is a question of faith, sir Heinrich. Attempts to rely on logic in these matters only lead to doubts, and doubts, together with good intentions, lead to... well, where we are now. But only one of us smells of sulphur."

Hey, I'm running a quest called Starborn. The idea is that I treat it like I would a homebrew World. It's toally sandbox; so far we've had a dance battle with a fox man, accidentally poisoned ourselves and are now disguised to go investigate a seedy brothel the guy we work for got mugged at when he won handily at cards.

I've archived 1&2 and 3 is up right now.

But if it interests you please swing by. See if you fancy it.

Also, I'm not usually into posting snippets of text from prior Quests as an advertisement, but fuck it I'll give it a shot.

===

As much as you want to leave this accursed mask behind and get on with living your life, something deep down tells you to take it with you... At the very least, you don't want somebody else to get possessed by it or something, but you've got a plan as you head back to your car and drive back towards the ritzy "Bay Area" side of South Town, Kazahaya's penthouse waiting for you.

"Wonder if I could make a thread on /b/ about this? Like a "Quints say what I do with it" kind of thing?" you think as the door man escorts you up to "Your" place... Then put that thought on hold as your stomach growls, sounding like two big cats fighting in a back alley. So, you raid Kazahaya's 'fridge, take the time to cook up some Chicken Parmigiana and fire up the trusty lap-top to create a thread on FightChan's infamous "Random Randomness" board (Known simply as "/b/").

You ignore the sticky for the moment ("Who the fuck makes a sticky on /b-HOLY SHIT NEW KOF TOURNAMENT!") and start typing up the opening post:

===

">Hi /b/. I found this weird mask in the street today. Quints say what I do with it."

===

It takes a bit to take a photo of it with your phone and re-size it so that FightChan can actually post the damn thing, but eventually everything's all set and the thread gets created... With no replies.

"Huh, that new KOF Tournament must have everybody's attention... Better give them some cheesecake" you think, then post an older photo of yourself from when you were playing Tennis in highschool to try and get some attention and kickstart the thread. Again, no takers... Until some fuckhead replies ">Wear the Mask" and makes your heart sink.

"Fuck me, HE GOT FUCKING QUINTS?! HOW?!?" The thread finally starts to spring to life with some reaction pics that nearly launch your sides into orbit, but you only feel like you're laughing to try and delay the inevitable...

You let out a sigh, shaking your head at tempting fate only for it to bite you right in your sweet tush like this, the mask having an almost "Happy" expression as you take a look at it. "Well, that fucker DID get quints... And at least I'm not going to take a bloody nude selfie or something."

You link back to the Anon that got "Quints" and reply:

===

"OP here. I'm going to make a Webm of this, because I got to save this shit for scientific research."

===

You take a photo of yourself with the mask and a timestamp just for good measure and add it to your post. The thread goes nuclear after that, an endless stream of ">TITS OR GTFO" and other ridiculously lewd commands bumping the thread well into the triple-digits.

"Well... Here goes..." You set up the web camera on your lap-top to record what you're about to do, but link back to your last post with:
>>
>>508148

Part 2:

===

"OP again. Just lettin' everybody ere know that if I get possessed and go a rampage, remember me as a badass bitch who fucked ur mum AND ur dad."

===

With that, you set the camera to "Record", wave to the camera (As /b/ doesn't support Webms with sound to your knowledge), then grab and show off the mask before slipping it over your face...

"OK, so far so good" you think as you have to hold it on your face due to a lack of any kind of straps, your eyes covered in darkness because the mask is completely solid, with no kind slits for the eyes... Then it feels like it's trying to suck down onto your head like an alien from a movie series you like.

Your eyes slowly start to "See" through the mask's eyes, your head pounding and the world spinning as you desperately try to force the mask off of your face, some strange alien language you don't understand speaking sweet nothings into your ears...

"W... What... Why...?" your brain feels like it's blowing fuses left and right as you struggle to rip off the mask, your vision from within the mask reminding you of all of those ">HOLY ACID-TRIP" memes on FightChan from a few years ago.

"I don't... What... Is this?" You're breathing heavy now, visions of a ruined colosseum and some kind of weird Shinto Shrine maiden wrecking shit while floating through the air transitioning into some kind of lab doing experiments on a bunch of "Boys from Brazil" (You couldn't see their faces, but their bodies all look the same), then...

"What the fuck am I...?" you let out a scream of pain as you fall off of the couch. From how you're twisting and contorting your body, it's like feel like you're wrestling yourself to get this thing off of your face before it corrupts your mind, or worse... "Come on... Just a little bit more COME THE FUCK ON!!!"

No memories of your past start to form in your eyes, tears running down your cheeks as you see your Mom die in the hospital again as well as the freak-out you had when you found that she had used the lst of her strength to make your school lunches for the week, the day your dad was reported as missing... "Oh come on, not the fight nights again..."

>"Calm down..."

"Who said that?!" you yell, still struggling to try and get the mask off of your face as a voice not unlike the one you heard from that "Poltergeist" fills your ears.

>"Let the G-mantle guide you..."

"FUCK OFF!" you scream, but almost freeze in your tracks when your vision fills up of a man that looks like Jean-Claude Gabriel sitting behind a hilariously long desk underneath a painting that looks like it came from Hell's private gallery.

"You know what you are? A puppet without strings. An action figure. What kind of Australian looks like you? You're a girl from Antarctica with a head full of sweet lies."
>>
>>508154

And the end, for good measure:

===

Just as you think you've finally got the mask off, it only clamps down harder onto your face and your headache worsens, the strain on your eyes forcing you to close them completely now. "Not like this..."

The voice of someone else fills your head now, your eyes closed but able to "See" a room that looks like the sci-fi hospital from one of your dreams filled with "Girls from Antarctica", some of them resembling your mother (Well, if she were blonde, "Stacked" and "Jacked") and some looking like... "... Me?"

The mask stops applying pressure to your face, but now your mind feels like it's getting fried like an egg on a skillet and you hear yourself let out one final scream of pain before everything goes white... Some time later, you wake up in a pool of sweat, your vision as clear as it ever was and the light from the ceiling lamp irritating you.

"Gah, too bright." You hop up on to your feet and turn it off, the darkness in the room allowing your eyes to "Rest" a little. "Much better..." You feel limber, flexible... Almost like your body could do anything you ever dreamed of wanting it to.

"I'd hate to trash such a nice place, but..." With a devilish grin, you slide down the spiral staircase's banister rail, landing with the kind of crazy pirouette most gymnasts couldn't stick. "OK, the ceiling's high enough... Now, let's boogie!" You fly through the air with an uppercut, a trail of bright electricity following your fist. When you land, you launch yourself forward foot-first, another small trail of electricity forming around your foot. "Shouldn't try a projectile in here... And besides, fighting shadows is boring; I want a real target to sink my teeth into."

You look around and grab a pair of shorts you had on, finding our wallet and... Not recognizing the face that's staring back at you? "Who the fuck is "Katja Hartkern?" you think as you go through your wallet, that same face in all of the photos. "I'm G-Mantle Lady."

Thanks. I plan to one day spend some (a lot of) time and edit the writing in all of the earlier chapters to bring them up to the level I possess now.

Meanwhile, have some more:

The Great Wall, Days of Battle

Cleft in two, a beast alike to an overgrown bug fell down into the darkness. The guardian lifted his crooked crescent blade again but found no target for a strike.

"They are retreating, First-standing!" a young spearman shouted joyfully. The thorns on his muzzle had only just started erupting, but his tail was already adorned with rings telling of many Days of Battle in the Watch. A veteran, Mother forgive. They are all veterans now.

«They aren't retreating, we drove them away. Beasts of Chaos are mindless creatures, the Words of Battle and Hunt are not for them,» Mortosar wanted to say but did not, and started to silently clean the green slime off of his blade. He had to clean very carefully, so that not a single drop of the slush that served as the beasts' blood would get onto the bare scales.

He had to face it – a war was being waged against them. For centuries the Great wall protected the Marsh against the corruption of the Cursed Lands. Sixty steps wide, five hundred cubits high and hundreds of leagues long – even without the magic of the ancient builders, the Wall stood as a serious obstacle in the way of any evil. The only duties of the guardians were to burn the Ravenous Forest when it crept too close to the Wall and to shoot down the flying monsters who risked turning south. Those were few, as the power of the Wall was much higher than its walls.

But this accursed season, everything changed. At first, information appeared in the scouts' reports of strange activity of animals, of changes in the flows of corruption that streamed through the poisoned soil of the forest in rainbow-coloured currents. Then experienced scouts started to disappear in their raids. Even if they returned, they returned in forms that only left one option to the Guardians – to do their ex-comrades the last service. Then a whole pack of wandering hills came to the wall, something that has never happened in the thousand years of Mother's memory.

It soon became clear that the slow-moving giants weren't their main problem. A real stream of ugly dwellers of the Cursed Lands gushed to the south, all those descendants of the sentient and non-sentient creatures once mutilated by the Distortion. It was as though something was driving these beasts to the Wall. Of course, the Wall remained the Wall, and surmounting it wasn't easy – nine out of ten monsters would die from simply touching its stones. But the remaining ones crawled up over the dead bodies and had to be met by the Guardians

Mortosar returned home hoping to gather forces to help lord-protector in his war for the free Avalon but was instead forced to take care of his direct duties without ever securing the rears. Let it be, he thought at the time, his duty is to protect the world from Chaos, while the aliens will sort their quarrels themselves. And who in their right mind would even go into the Marsh? They all need solid ground and clean water. The lizard was wrong. Lately, he was wrong too often for someone carrying the title of the First-standing. First, the news of the Last Alliance's defeat at the hands of some new outsiders reached him. Then those outsiders appeared near the Marsh themselves and attempted to reach the wall from the side of the Backwater. Foolish of them. But the aliens were strong and stubborn and aided by winged creatures that somehow could find paths in the mire. He had to take a part of the Guardians off of the Wall and even Mother's palace only to deal with the new adversity. The Wall is sacred, only they – Mother's favourite children – had the right to step upon it. For that right, the lizardfolk were ready to pay with their lives.

'War on two fronts' is how this situation was called in the ancient scrolls from Mother's library. Tough defense in the north; dagger-like attacks against steel-clad opponents in the south: shower them with darts and leave for the depths. Thankfully, the Roots allowed transferring forces quickly. For now, they were holding up, but time was working against them. The damned winter turned out to be unbelievably cold this year, and the lizards had to wrap their bodies in warmers just to preserve the movability of muscles. But what will they do if the Marsh freezes, as had already happened during the Long Winter four hundred years ago? The outsiders will march on the ice to the Wall like on a road, and its defenders won't even have enough strength to raise a blade against them. Mother will think of something. She – the infinitely wise and almost immortal – has to think of something. Or they will all meet an end that will bring no honour.

Mortosar looked down, onto the ground vague from steam and swarming beasts, raised his face to the sky, to the leaden clouds from which were falling mercilessly cold snowflakes, and growled in impotent fury.

You will your magic to build in your body and blue wisps erupt as you rise into the air. The army still stares at you until a javelin lands in a soldier chest and the fighting resumes unceremoniously. The giant, however, knows better. He stares at you mouth agape from the Helmet that covers half of his face. He knows fears. You will yourself towards the Giant the speed at which you levitate only causes more anger to build.

Someone shoots an arrow at him and clangs off his helmet. He barely acknowledges it as you move towards him. You finally feel your speed to pick up and you move faster at the Giant Halberd at the ready.
"ARCHERS!" A man screams from below you and you roll to look at him
"FIRE!" A volley of arrows races out towards you and you dodge and swerve them on the way to the Giant. Speed picking up with each volley. Soon you race through the skies towards the Giant who picks his dropped tree trunk up in fear. He begins to swing it rapidly with no rhyme or reason.

Giants are lumbering creatures. They have long arms and legs that bristle with strength. The average young Giant is about the size of five fully grown men and eats like twelve. None of it matter to you. You dodge and weave his makeshift weapon in the air as he swings in fear. To the passerby, it must seem like the giant is being bothered by a particularly large firefly. The surrounding peasants and rebelling soldiers look at you with a mixture of fear and awe. A small part of you revels in it.

"DRAKON! DRAKON! DRAKON!" He yells in a slurred tongue as he continues to swing. "DRAKON EAT TOR! TOR NO WANT EAT!" He keeps shouting as he tries his damnedest to swat you like a fly. One hit with that tree could take even you out. You don't care.
You float backwards and raise your halberd again. At a suitable distance, you reverse your movement and speed towards the giant again. The giant too tired from his swinging moves to shift the tree to his other arm. A fatal mistake.

In the lull, you swing towards his eyes and they widen in shock and fear at your speed. Your shining axe head slams into his face shredding the thin strip of metal between his two eyes. Your Halberd digs into his right eye and stabs deep into his temple.
>>
The giant rages in pain and stomps his feet. You hold on as your body swings back and forth. After several annoying moments of swinging you pull your halberd from his eye with a grunt and float back. The axe head is covered with blood and fluids. Where his eye once resting lies a bleeding mangled hole. You stare at the Giant's rampaging behavior. You raise your halberd.

You throw it with all your strength and it digs deep into his eyes. The Giant stiffens as you hear a ripping sound emanate from the back of his head. The giant makes no noise or movement and just stands there with no action. You float to the back of his head to see the spear end of your weapon sticking from the back of his helmet. You pull with all your strength and your weapon comes back covered in viscera. You flick it off as the giant crashes heavily into the ground.

The soldiers stare at you awe disappearing and fear increasing by the moment. Some bare their weapons to you, other shakes where they stand, and much many more look ready to run. Then a woman raises her weapons into the air and begins to cheer.

Soon the men surrounding her repeat the cheer as you float there. You feel a sense of pride and accomplishment radiate through you.

"MEN! PRESS THE ATTACK! THE GIANT IS DEAD! CHARGE!" She yells and orders as she raises her weapons and leads a charge into the flank of the king's army.

You float above the battlefield surveying the scene.
The flanking action has unbalanced the king's entire army. The charging knight breaks off and race towards the left flank to cover and support their flanked men. The right flank begins to regroup and fill in the gaps the knights constantly made. The center battle rages on.

Nobody reads gigantic walls of text in the /qtg/ either. I'm more likely to give a quick look to a quest that's been linked over a goddamn novella thrown into the general thread. I can see posing a snippet or two of material from a quest that's going to be run soon as kind of a preview, but when you have to mind the character limit while posting, it's not a preview anymore.
>>
>>502707
Erm, i don't mean to bother, its just that, my quest has been sinking a bit low, and i was wondering if anyone was actually interested in it. Its right here

Pretty much this.

I read them, but I'd probably be more eager to check them out if they were just links. QTG isn't really a good place for in depth quest content.

Well, I'm planning to run mine in a day or so... And honestly, I think I could've just done a condensed middle & end instead of including how the mask got on the MC's face to begin with.

I've been thinking about adding public domain characters to the Cape World universe. The goal of my Cape World stuff is to create a bunch of short micro quests that show off different characters and concepts like comic book one shots, so it would be a great way to revive some public domain characters.

See pic related? Superman's daddies created him. He's like a good guy version of the Joker played by Danny Kaye. His car is sentient and he has rival super-clowns that want to steal his prestige.

Would anyone be interested in a quest like this?

Any other public domain super heroes you'd like to see in a micro quest?

Quests are essentially online tabletop sessions. Why be proud? You're here to have fun and make sure people keep having fun.

It's different if you're a published writer, but Questing is no different from a session playing tabletop. There is no ego involved. There is, however, a point where you tell dissenters to leave because as the host you want everyone to have a good time.

How many people would be interested in a Darkest Dungeon Quest?

You do not play a hero, but you play a lord who has arrived at a new land. You own a castle and a small village, but everywhere monsters and dangers lurk. You have to hire heroes and soldiers to rid the land of the scourges and on an expedition you get to control a hero to see his point of view. Heroes die, often, even waifu characters. Heroes have many differing personalities ranging from a great hero willing to sacrifice him to a coward who would abandon his allies to a greedy one who would demand lots of payment from you, etc.

>>
>>510196
I dunno. I did character gen and my quest worked out.

I don't get why it has such a bad rep.
>>
>>510196
For me char gen is the most enjoyable part of every quest, especially when it's telling a backstory.
>>
>>510230
I've explained my views on char gen before. I even made sure that it ended up on the pastebin.

But honestly, your quests are the ones that literally call the MC Anon, right? The principle problem is that it is incredibly difficult to integrate a character created by a group of people who all want different things into a plot that they do not yet know. You kinda sidestepped the issue because your style fully embracing a certain separation between the MC and the plot.

also,
>waifus

>>510249
so the quest has already peaked before you even start? Why should anyone be surprised if you flake out afterwards, then?
>>
>>510260
*fully embraces a certain amount of separation.
>>
>>510260
Eh, I put some effort into generating artifacts to find int he labyrinth. I guess I could generate a few more and post some as reasons to stick with the quest. Maybe that's not a good idea though. There is a major difference between objects from the dessert and stuff in the labyrinth, I wouldn't want to spoil anything.
>>
>>510249
So you're saying you'll stop enjoying the quest as much when things actually get going.

Fucking what?
>>
>>510260
>>510263
>Fully embraces a certain amount of separation

I'm not sure what you mean by that. The players in my games have always taken the plot in a direction I didn't anticipate. It even got one of them killed .
>>
>>510290
Well I meant chargen is my favorite thing from a player perspective. I think I'll have fun coming up with creatures, artifacts, and characters to throw at the players.
>>

Beleaguered Prince Quest is live once again.
>>
>>510304
same problem.

What guarantee do you have that your players won't drop your quest if the char gen was the best part? You could call it the CYOA problem, if you like.

>>510301
I'm not up to explaining the details, that's why I had it saved in the pastebin. You said that the different Anons of each Quest really are different though, right? Could you elaborate?
>>
>>510230
Having one quest that worked out fine despite having chargen doesn't change all the other times that a quest has been killed by having chargen in the beginning. It's just something that comes with too many problems to really be worth it.

For one, it means the Player's aren't being thrown into the story right away (unless the chargen is well-integrated within the narrative, which it unfortunately rarely is), and with most quests you've got to hook people right away. If you've got a good hook in your OP that pulls people in, a lot of those people are going to be turned off when the next few posts stall things by building a character first, and players can be pretty impatient. It's very easy to lose their attention in the early goings.

Also, it opens up a lot of split opinions between players far earlier than you would want these kind of split opinions. Let's put forth the simplest piece of chargen of all as an example. Is your character male of female?

You present this choice, and the demand for one option [i]will[/i] be split down the middle almost every time. Half the people are going to want to play male, the other half want to play female. While the voting process is going on and the players are waiting on the next update, they're going to start to build their own personal vision for how they hope the quest is going to go in their heads, and this choice is the first step in that. They'll get married to the gender that they voted for the MC, and they'll really want the MC to be that gender.

So, voting has closed, results are in, the MC is going to be female. Simple choice, but one that will shape most of the Quest to come. Half of the players, those that wanted the MC to be male, have now had a decision that changes the core of the Quest go in the opposite direction than what they wanted within the very first choice. Naturally, their interest is going to wane, and most of them are going to hop out of the quests and not continue with it. That's close to half the players you originally hooked gone within one post. And the further you delve into chargen, the more and more the players will decrease in increments. Basically in most cases of chargen, you just end up funnelling out any players who may have been interested in your quest by dangling big changes in front of their face and then having to deny it from them when it gets outvoted. [1/2]
>>
>>510427

Another thing to consider is the randomness of anons. This one honestly doesn't happen as often as most people make it seem, but you could plan out a super gritty spy quest, open up chargen, a few anons wanting to be funny later, and your super gritty spy quest now stars Dirk Dickbutt the Lizard Girl. It goes against all your original plans and likely the tone of your OP which is what hooks people coming in to begin with. Once again, you'll end up haemorrhaging potential players because people will see the OP of a cool spy quest, open it up, only to be saddled with the whacky and comedic misadventures of Dolph Ziggler, Harpy Girl who is also into Yuri because [i]of course she is.[/i] Sure, some talented enough QMs can still roll with something like that and make it good, but at the end of the day they've been pushed into running something with a much more different tone than they planned and wanted to, and when the QM starts to feel forced, it spells death for a Quest.

Now, picture this. You start that spy Quest, and in your first post you tell your players that the MC is a man named John Smith, he's a grizzled veteran with very little patience who doesn't like dealing with people. Are people going to complain that they didn't get a chance to make him a woman, or a chance to name him, or a chance to make him a monstergirl? No, you won't get any complaints. Because those things are choices that players don't give a shit about until you put the option there. These guys don't give a shit about playing Dildo Dangles the Womble Girl until you tell them they can, and they aren't going to care if the choice was never there.

That's the main problem with chargen in Quests. It's not just divisive, it's unnecessarily divisive. That's why they get a bad rap. You don't [i]need[/i] chargen in a quest, and adding it almost always end up being more trouble than it's worth. Open up some videogame that has chargen, start making a character. Have a friend make a character of their own. Go back and compare. Would the two of you have made an identical character? Would you prefer to play as the character he came up and vice versa? Probably not to both those questions. Chargen works in videogames because it allows a single player to create a character born from their own imagination, but quests are not a single player medium, and not all player's imaginations are the same.

We all love chargen in videogames, and it's natural to think that Quests, which are very closely related to RPGs, would also be great with chargen, but 90% of the time they just don't work with a Quests' multi-player format.
>>
>>510427
>that a quest has been killed by having chargen in the beginning

A quest has never been killed by chargen.

Every quest that has ever died has died due to having a weak QM.

No exceptions.
>>
chargen with dice is a tab-closer because it implies lots of rolling and crunch and spreadsheets and required-reading pastebins in the future of the quest. there's no fun there for me.

One is a psychic who can control light. He's a grumpy film noir fan who tried to be a ghost channeler until his first seance ended badly (his clients refused to believe the ghost he called up was the real one because she "changed" in the time being dead). Now he tries to help people and ghosts get along in the cynical and less sociable manner of a private detective. He's serious and grumpy but most of it is him trying to fit a type. Think Shotaro from Kamen Rider W. He's only "half boiled". He plays off his waifu in the "dark guy bright and happy girl" way. Think Nick and Nora Charles. He's also currently a dead .

One is a friendly weeaboo with a big heart. I mean katana collection and everything. He's trying to man up for his girlfriend (a tomboy werewolf) so he's got himself a cabin in the woods and he's working on his survivalist skills while earning a living as a writer. His quest is about getting himself accepted into his girlfriend's family.

One is Grant Morrison.

One is a socially awkward engineer with a huge unrequited crush on his boss that only his closest co workers know about. He's cripplingly shy. He dresses up as a monster/ghost/thing to scare people away from his boss's base in the hopes of getting into her good graces and proving that he has guts. He's worried that he'll go too far being a "G-rated slasher villain" like his grandfather, a Scooby-Doo villain.

One is a Catholic super soldier raised from birth to be a weapon against evil vampires. He uses the souls of saints living inside light sabers and has a soul bounded to a guardian angel. He's a goofball that's learned about the world through books thanks to his isolated upbringing. He's serious in business and immature outside of business and is struggling to get the finer points of leadership down. His character's theme is trust. He's struggling to find out who to trust and how much he can trust them with.

>>
>>510507
Its impossible to prove something benefitted from character generation.

Because for all you know in a quest where the MC was generated by the players, perhaps the QM would have made a stupider choice in terms of the MC. But we'll never know.

NBQ had "chargen" and i think wolf was the best choice in hindsight and that was player decsion. Would Moloch have chosen wolf? I don't know, maybe he would have chosen something faggy like snake.
>>
>>510482
Have a lot of time and be your own motivator
>>
>>510534
Wolf just works too well for what the story is about. It's probably cause we've been playing him so long as one, but I can't imagine Henryk as Ministry guy or a Scholar or some noble.
>>
>>510495
>>510507
Maybe. It did have twelve posters for the first response to the OP, which increased to sixteen when the mage selection options came up. Not that it's possible to tell if it would've been better with or without it. I samefagged two of those votes and three of those vatis votes were mine, but whatever.

I think QMs get confused with "defining the start basis of a character" and chargen: let's pick all the backstory and details right fucknig now. Narratively, no players need a lot of details to start a character off. In BQs case it was a bumpy crime-class-spells thing, and I think most quests would do fine with at least two narrative character defining votes in the first thread, not necessarily after the first post. Just to help them define who they are, rather than just what they are.

Shit shouldn't be too deep, either. Mechanics wise nobody knows how any specific character is going to play at the start. I mean, take the aforementioned quest for example, I samefagged vatis because I thought we'd be a spell slinger and the character spends most of their time meditating and reading books. So voting for choices among mechanics heavy greentext is a shitty crapshoot. Vague chargen options are even worse.

Can someone enlighten me as to the expectations of posting speed on this board?

Also how long can a thread go inactive before it falls of the board, roughly?

Are extended breaks between bunches of posts, ie a day or two, acceptable?
>>
>>510704
That's actually the appeal of /qst/ over /tg/. You can have a long-lasting thread with a slower posting schedule.
>>
>>510704
holy fucking shit, it's Fall Guy.

it takes 3 days for a thread to ENTER autosage.

A thread can last a week before falling off.

You'll probably need to wait longer for replies than on tg, but as long as you make it clear how often you post things should be good.
>>
>>510704
>Also how long can a thread go inactive before it falls of the board, roughly?
Nine or so days.
>Are extended breaks between bunches of posts, ie a day or two, acceptable?
Yeah.

Welcome back.
>>
>>510704
>Also how long can a thread go inactive before it falls of the board, roughly?
7 days. So if you post right before the 3 day auto sage it'll last 10 days.

>Are extended breaks between bunches of posts, ie a day or two, acceptable?
Yeah. You can really go at any speed. Like always though the more active you are regularly will get you more players.
>>
>>510704

Expectations for posting speed are "consistent," so whenever you'd run a normal session and have it announced etc.
Expect less players, less interest, and less discussion overall, but threads last sometimes 11 days.

Because people want to go a good job and be recognized for it. It's just human nature.

>There is no ego involved
I disagree.Being a DM/QM is a performance and there is always a degree of ego to it whether you're giving a speech or showing off a painting.

And come on. Look at the Velo/Planefag stuff. Look at Awoo killing his twitter. There is serious ego in questing.
>>
>>507145
The first one always surprises me for a number of reasons. What would have happened has we lost, besides the obvious. If we went for a different opponent, how easy would that be? Would we even act the way we do now because of events from a lost fight? Would it have made our ideals stronger? I just don't know.

For now, I suppose we're still stuck in the police station...I don't blame you, just sucks that we are.

>>510481
It's also weird looking at these descriptions because of how random they seem, but in a very charming way.

That said, maybe save describing two of those anons until they actually get to play in their quest playground...
>>
>>511386
>Look at Awoo killing his twitter
Wait, why'd he do that? Was it real life stuff? Did some drama happen while I wasn't looking?
>>
>>511386
Mostly because QM's don't come here to play, but to make a name or to find a reason to like themselves. So it becomes kind of like a job, you work on your quest to sustain your name. Biggest success a QM can have with its quest is having fun, regardless of players or speed.
>>
>>511414
Long story short, he has at least put his quest on hiatus, it is unknown at this time whether he continues or not. He responded in the thread that he may continue after he deleted his twitter.

And now as I say that, he actually has a new twitter, so it may be back on.

It's all very strange and nebulous.

Here, if you want that twitter, I found it.

https://twitter.com/ShounenQM
>>
>>511414
Awoo got tired of twitter. He realized Discord is the new meme.
>>
>>511414
He didn't like that there was no discussion for his quest and randomly quit. He's said that he may try it again in a month.
>>
>>511386
>There is serious ego in questing.
There certainly is. Personally, I dropped my quest when I felt I couldn't do a good job and it was becoming more work than fun, and then took it up again when players said they were still interested, which is a mistake when the energy isn't there.

I still remember readers dropping by and saying they were enjoying the world, and things like that are very pleasing to the ego and encouraging, even if they don't participate. Still, ego stroking only goes so far if its not the QMs goal to be lauded or go for attention, some people do just want to have fun.
>>
>>511386
If you're running it other than just a DnD session, there's FictionPress. You can reply to reviews and such there. And you can sate your ego.

As far as I'm concerned, this is no different from a Midnight Express session - the only difference being that you can't see the players.

There is no ego and there shouldn't be. What you need to look out for are dissenters who annoy the other players like real life sessions.

It's a harder meter to gauge because the discussion isn't real time. But there is no ego and there shouldn't be.

This is 4chan and you're all grown men. Why the deuce would you want to have an ego as a DM? If my Friday nights ran like that, I'd tell the Campaign writer to cheese off because of just how immature it is.
>>
>>511495
You're deluded if you don't think ego is involved. Weren't you the one having a pissing match with planefag over the quality of each other's work?
>>
>>511495
Dude, we're human beings. We all have egos from making stuff and getting perceived success. It's just about keeping the ego in check.

And MECH, I follow your quest but goddamn do you come off as proselytizing from your high horse damn near every time you talk in /qtg/.
>>
>>511439
The way to stick to a quest imo and stay consistent without discussion would be to actually like what you're doing

All the quests I write are something I would participate in myself or always wanted. Even if I don't have any relevant discussion one of the main things keeping me driving is the fact that I like the settings and experiences I set up. I enjoy writing enough that the experience of writing something and anyone paying attention to it because of shared interests or having enjoyed what I set up is more than enough.

Hell, For my main quest I always feel overwhelmed by what I need to keep track of. There's a lot of stats and shit and I have to constantly balance things out. Its stressful as fuck but I love the setting I write in and the freedoms I'm allowed to take. I love being able to describe certain things happening. If I feel the stress and annoyance piling I write for one of my other quests

tl:dr Enjoyment of what you do can keep you going forever. Even with minimal discussion imo
>>
>>511340
Is planefag a webcam bunny or something? This is almost as bad as the WoW white knighting.

Only difference is that my issue with the story sent at that time was that it was an incestuous tryst between a hermaphrodite Starscream and Megatron, who for some reason was his Sparkmate and father.

"Intolerant" indeed.

Although you may argue that this is worse, considering that his "defence force" are a bunch of men in their early 20s to late 30s.

Eh.

In any case. No, I didn't enjoy her quest back then and I don't enjoy her quest now. My opinion is my own and hey, if you liked the Problem Child Trilogy, that's your issue, sir.

I agree with this man, even though I tend to give into pressure every now and then.
>>
>>511499
What? No. I got annoyed with her because she believed that a review was done sort of personal attack and said why I couldn't enjoy it.

I couldn't think of anything but Gilbert Gottfried when reading Settle and couldn't sympathise with any of the other characters.

If you enjoy my work, great, hop in for a session. I don't know why he believed having a negative opinion of a work was an attack.

It was a really immature response, and I did try to reach out to her but she went off a real weird tangent.

I still can't sympathise with the characters and I sympathise even less with the ego of a QM/DM that goes on such a narcissistic angle.

That's it, really.

>>511520
>Enjoyment of what you do can keep you going forever. Even with minimal discussion imo
So much this. Finding that sweet spot of personal investment and enjoyment that supports writing regardless of circumstances or player activity is great. Ofc, the key to success in a lot of things is to enjoy doing those things.

Sorry, just recounting a similar experience I had years ago. A Guild Officer in WoW shared a Transformers fanfic in chat and I had a look.

All I'm going to say about that fic is that that girl had a real weird fetish. Weirder still was her white knight brigade on the Realm.

GM told me to just change my opinion on it in a whisper and that she worked really hard on it. I didn't, was blocked and hounded on the realm for being a bigot.

Not in nature, but don't you sit down, roll imaginary dice, run a campaign and have an endgame?

Maybe a little bit of CYOA on the side, I suppose, but I run a many-as-one session.

Maybe a twitch session would be a better comparison? I don't know. I just run it like a tabletop. Everyone with a cold one in hand discussing their next move for the party.

I'm sad that I was right about /qst/.

I'm pleased the mods got pissed at the assholes who inflicted it on us and ignore them now.
>>
Is it ever a good idea to let players put themselves in unwinnable situations when it comes to combat? Like the skyrim intro for example where the main dragon appears and your supposed to run. I'm sure quest players would try to fight the dragon.
>>
>>512351
Why not? The other option may detract from a potential choice, a write-in or a lesson. All of these are good things. Unless it's something the main character knows will 1HKO them and they've no conceivable reason to fight, of which there can be many reasons to, or they may attempt to fight it indirectly or survive through sheer dumb luck.

Quite a few options, really.
>>
>>512351

I depends on the mood of the quest and how smart the playerbase is I suppose. Because while the stereotypical player action would be to try and win the unwinnable fight/do the impossible/see the unseeable, whenever I tried to pull that kind of thing my players saw right through it and either GTFO'd of the situation or specifically chose not to fight.

Space miner quest guy here. i am back with another question.

how would you like minerals, metals...etc to be sorted out?

Like Common-Uncommon-Rare kind of thing with Common has the lowest price* while rare has the highest? or what?

I would love to hear your thoughts about this.

*prices are highly subjective to whom we are going to sell our stuff to.
>>
>>512381
Do the normal
Common < Uncommon < Rare < Epic < Legendary

Possibly change Epic and Legendary to other names/words, but let the three first be more accessible depending on the job/planet while minerals/metals of the Epic proportions only come from really dangerous jobs/contracts and that one, tiny little mineral stone/metal piece of "Legendary" status can be talked about, heard of, and hyped up to hell but never truly seen until the very end. When the players have gone through the plot (if there is one) and found a piece of this sick, legendary mineral, they and their poor family or whatever you have in mind for their motivations, are set for life.

Small example of one of the 3-4 characters in Space miner quesr. if you have some comment, please say so.

Name: Cassidy Von Maur
Geneder: F
Age: 26
Race: Human

Background:

Born as the sole bastard of a broken mother in the slums of Terr CII [City of Spane], Cassidy never had a shoulder to lean on. She had a rough, bitter childhood , her mother would forget her woes in the Zexernet [cheap VR Escapism program/Holodrug]. it didn't last for long as She found her mother dead, strapped to that damn thing. Without any sort of a supporting figure Cassidy soon succumbed into miserable poverty, she had none to guide her.

She might have wound up on a Deterium table for a shady organ harvest if it weren't for Maal Banoon. A low class miner who found her begging for scraps. Something ticked inside Maal, She pulled her out of the streets.

In time, Cassidy turned into a capable woman. She could rely on herself and more if she wanted to. Maal would take her to various mining trips. Cassidy would consider Maal as the mother she never truly had.

Sadly. A disease struck her tutor. Something unknown and vile in one of her 'unauthorized' trips. Cassidy has spent almost all of their Orin to administer her to a Cyrobed to halt the spread of this unknown Malignancy.

A Zeirkt ( An alien species of crystalline nature. Wears a QauiLock Suit all the time to prevent the release of a Pakticorone byproduct which crystallize almost all organic species- Almost extinct ) doctor by the name of Lobar-ixa showed intrest in this case.

He believed that this unknown disease might also be responsible of the near-extinction of his species. With little authority he had, Lobar-ixa attempted to ignite a project which will identify and possible cure said disease but none showed intrest in funding what could possibly be a financial sinkhole.

None but Cassidy.

Properties/others:

-Small apartment in Block 2E-246-914 (Previously belonged to Maal)
-Valkarii
-25,000 Orin
Goals
-10,000 Orin Per month for Maal's Cyrobed
-Fund Lobar-Ixa in his project so he could find a cure
-Help Maal before the unknown disease would claim her life [500 days left according to Lobar-Ixa]

Permits/Documentations:

-Terr CII BRTH [Birth certificate/ID for Cassidy Von Maur]
-Hermia's class-O/9 [A proof that Cassidy is a miner-lowest access/permition, it dictates for Cassidy to give 10% of any of her hauling to the nearest Hermia station]
-Hermia's Ald-T/9 [A permit for trading in any of Hermia's stations, lowest access/permition]
-Hermia's Dis-O/0 [a document which contains different codes for distress call channels]
-TVEE Interstellar travel -TOLLQA- [permit for any interstellar travelling within the TOLLQA system
-TVEE M.Vulse-0-0-0-0 [permit for mining in one of four designated spots in Vulse according to the Vulsian-Hermia pact]
-TVEE M. -TOLLQA- [permit for mining in any planet (other than Bucl and MoJ due to their time distorting properties]

Ship

Class x-221 Rockbullia ship nicknamed 'Valkarii'

Very basic and outdated mining ship. Bulky, slow to steer and maneuver but has lots of space for cargo.
The Valkarii has:

-Diod Werrium Stallion [power Core/Engine for very sublight travels, this duality and the volatile nature of Werrium makes it very dangerous]

-Diod Oxtar Wingman [very basic thrusters for maneuvering looming threats like a large asteroid, tends to overheat quickly]

-Diod Hawkeye SS [Very basic, somewhat inaccurate scanning system]

-Farra 24-A [Mechanical arm for grabbing objects]

-Farra 14-Z [Very basic shield system, for small debris only]

-Zamon AI ver 0.8 [An outdated AI, will handle the ship among other functions]

-Zamon E.Y.E [Same AI but in a small bot to aid the miner outside of the ship, can be a companion among other things]

-Zamon C.U.L.L [Autonomic container for hauling miners back to the ship with 500 kg max load, can gather scattered and fine mineral with 5 delicate extensions]

-3000 KG container [Caution: no special containers for radioactive materials and the like]

Cassidy has:

-MK Elio Qana suit [12 Hour life support, Translator, basic insulator/filter from heat/radiation and so on, direct connection with the Valkarii and other misc installments. MOD capabilities: Moderate, small power supply but it can be solar powered as well.]
-2 Xoton pickaxe [very basic mining tool, can mine through most minerals]
-1 Werrium tribot [after setting the tribot, it can be used to blast through a certain thickness of sturdy minerals. caution is advised due to the volatile nature of this mining tool, can also be used as a non authorized weapon]
-Farra 82-T [MOD: miniature arm strapped on the back of Cassidy's suit]
-Moc Neuron Wrangler [MOD: Sends a calibrated electric impulse on Yegizognal minerals (Werrium, Oblos, zaginum...etc) to stabilize and keep them from deteriorating, can be used as a non authorized weapon]
-Terr 211-0 pkasma pistol [only Authorized weapon to use, short range, slow rate of fire but can save one's life. Every single shot is registered at Hermia station of the current system. A report sent to any Hermia station is expected within one week]

forgot my trip.

anyways, tell me what you think about this, 2-3 characters will have the same pattern for you to choose in the quest.
>>
>>512482
Cut out everything but the initial info (age and shit), background, and properties/others/goals.

Save the rest of it for each character to be posted after the players have picked.
>>
>>512351
Make clear the punishment for failure or bad rolls in combat situations. With a CoC session IRL, though, you don't want to alienate the other 3 when only one's left.

Keep a failure counter or something.

If it fails spectacularly and results in a Game Over you can always ask where do you want them to take it from again or you can choose to end the Quest there and then. You don't want the failures to have them throw the board up into the air but to make them re-think how they made their decision.

My "kill someone off" finger could have been pulled on a bad roll some threads ago but a miracle of a roll set saved her.
>>
>>512488
i think both the ship and the equipment might sway players to pick a certain character.

for example a metal humanoid slave race whose goal is to buy his freedom uses various robots for precise stone cutting (which will take long time and is not compatible with some minerals) but his ship has a small cargo space

Another insectoid race will use 'decompressed mining' by compressing a certain space into a small but highly expensive tool. he just wants to feed his family and so on.

i could be wrong though, i will admit this wall of text times 3 is not a pleasant view. feel free to justify your point.
>>
>>512498
If you want to include info about the ship and equipment, at least try to shorten it. I can tell you right now that people won't read through what might be 7+ posts of info to just pick between three characters at the start of a quest.

DESTINATION: Cylene
CLASS: Hive World

DAILY THOUGHT:"The Rewards of Tolerance are Treachery and Betrayal"
+++++++++++++++++

Imperial Governor Lord Andras Furiam has fallen to chaos and driven Cylene into an age of heresy. His treachery is joined by troops of the Imperial Guard who have killed the loyal military leadership in the night. Every hab-block of the towering hive city has become a battlefield between the heretic and scattered loyalist soldiers. Seperatist groups rally together and fight loyalist and heretic alike. Gangs carve territory out of the orderless streets, killing anyone that does not join them. Families and neighbors take sides and turn weapons against each other. Cultists mobs scour the city capturing citizens by the millions for some unknown purpose. This is the world you awake to. You are retired-sergeant kytus tarkal, last surviving guardsman of the 88th Cylene regiment. You wished for a quiet life, but there is one truth you can not escape from.

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, there is only war.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday just are the days I either don't work (first two) or do stuff from home. Got used to enjoying a bit of a sleep in I suppose. That and the threads start at 5am here in Aus.

That place is the complete paradox of a circle jerk and a cache hierarchy of "taste" and "library collections". If Robert Howard envisioned the chaotic ooze that would make the mess of the cosmos, that would be his sinkhole.

What I have floating around my head is a basic setup.
>You are a young dragon setting out on your own
>Chose race and specialty skills
>You start with a certain amount of resources and possibly a tribe of servant creatures
>Chose servant creature race, which have benefits and flaws
>Goal is to be a dragon ruler, increase your wealth and power and spread your influence across the land

Beyond that I don't have much planned, because I learn that players destroy any plans I come up with.
>>
>>513234
Maybe you should have a rival planned out then, most civ-style quests get boring because they turn into tower defence where chumps get thrown at your meat-grinder.

I'd suggest you could make it a quest about a dragon traveling on an adventure but flight would make things really complicated because your map would need to be huge.
>>
>>513234
Correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't read it, but Isn't that just European Dragon?
>>
>>513243
Kinda wanted to do a civ-builder type thing, start small with one cave and a tribe of primitive servants, see how far they can build with a personal avatar controlling things rather than being an invisible god-king that vaguely controls the entire civilization.

A potent rival or threat would be a good idea though.

Though one question I feel the need to ask, just to clarify, is what this board's stance on adult material is. My personal rules are 'as long as nobody is uncomfortable, go at it. But it's not allowed to interfere with the story or derail the fun' That works out well for my more regular games but I'm not sure how it would work here.
>>
>>513254
I wouldn't know. There were a few quests like that years ago that I read in the archive, which were actually some of the things that convinced me to see what /tg/ was actually like in the first place.
>>
>>513258
>Though one question I feel the need to ask, just to clarify, is what this board's stance on adult material is
Are you really going to include dragonfucking?
>>
>>513266
I don't know. In any case I think it's important to know what the rules are regarding it. It's something that ALWAYS came up in every series of dragon related quests I've ever read, which was at least four or five. I'm not against the basic concept but I won't really know until I see what happens.
>>
>>513274
You're unlikely to get banned for it but I'd avoid making it a central feature of the quest or it WILL take over.

If you really wanted to motivate your players, have a plot device that can allow a dragon to shift into human form or transform a waifu into a dragon.
>>
>>513288
Yeah I wouldn't ever want to have it be the core of the quest. But I've seen in the various RPGs I'm in with my group that side plots involving romance and relationships are pretty fun, just not quite sure how it would work in a quest or what would be considered objectionable. I don't have a problem with graphic content but the moment I feel like it's dragging its feet I'd hit fade to black and move on.

Other than that I'll have to probably make a map and come up with some power blocks in the general area, try to keep it as rules light as I can, don't want to get bogged down with minor details of rules when it's interaction and roleplay I'd care most about.

>>

>>514140
>>514171
This isn't one of the boards that attract people used to regular sessions of sitting down and rping/arguing about nothing who are then willing to come back and do it all over again.

Just as foretold.

Still don't know why people talk like this is a mystery when it's been writing on the wall literally years before this place existed.
Consistent players are rare for under ten thread quests and not a large amount of people (in spite of what slow QMs want) want to use a non-anonymous image board for an activity with a legacy of it. People pop in and see a mostly dead board with forced tripcodes and shitty forum games, they'll make and have made their own conclusions. That guy up thread talking about fanfiction quest popularity is a moron, 60+ IPs of which almost half are regulars is the float number of /tg/'s Naruto fanfiction quests. Strong OC quests get regular highs not far lower than that, mostly because samefagging and having actual shit to talk about.

Not saying QMs can't or shouldn't run here, but they should manage their expectations better and more in line with reality. This is canonically the place for slow QMs and slow players with more lurkers than active players. "All the real quests are on /tg/" and "I don't like IDs so I won't even post in the good quests there" are the things players respond with to the retards asking them to vacate to this dump.
And beyond those details it's not like you should care about anyone's opinions on this stuff except your own and your players, and if they don't care enough to follow you after a thread? Tough. You pick your grave on how good you think you are and die overnight or die over a week. Or move to SpaceBattles or Akun or run a furfag quest on /tg/chan which was the slowest place around until this board showed up.

Or at least tailor your insipid clingy expectations to the fucking environment and medium you chose to run a collective wankfest in so you don't whine about it like a shithead little bitch craving that hot playercount bukkake. Fuck.

No, I'm not touching that. My curiosity was just piqued since I have never seen a furry quest on /tg/ (unless you're one of those that count Pokemon as furry) and I've lurked there for years. Must have been shortly after Ruby quest.

It was indeed. Prior to quests being requested to always have Quest in the title for filtering as well and later enhanced by the dark or glorious actions of Nazi mod, depending on the observers opinions. They were interesting times.

Player/QM Question for some discussion:
>Is there a genre or a generalized "setting" that you wish there would be more of in the questing scene? Why/How so?
>>
>>514951
I actually want to see more steam punk/racial issues/realpolitik. The latter two as themes more than settings. Realpolitik isn't so hard to write but it has a tendency to come off as boring for a lot of people on this site's demographic. Also for a site that preaches white supremacy and calls basketball apehoop, don't see many quests taking on racial commentary.

Steam punk for me goes without saying. I'm a sucker for it.
>>
>>514959
That's because it's easy to be ironically racist, but much more difficult to actually make a thoughtful commentary on race relations.

Also, speaking of steampunk, a quest set in the Leviathan universe would be cool as hell.
>>
>>514951

Most quests are fantasy, and fantasy means creating a semi-ideal world which is why few QMs have actual blacks, but they're prepared to add ambiguously brown catgirls.

I meant things like having racial distrust in the mold of X-Men and the verse's civilians, an allegory to the Chinese overseas to the mainland Chinese, hell, even the Ryukyu Denizens and mainland Japanese.

You can always have your Questers spectate on an environment where perception if an individual is challenged by the societal expectation and reward/punish them for their actions or something.

Not all racial commentary in fantasy is allegorical to 'oppression'. You can have it be perception, you know. A mistrust based on statistics or past history, maybe a war - like the Bosnians and the Serbs, that kind of commentary.

Or a 19th century magic quest that doesn't have anything to do with Lovecraft. I want a Lord Dunany Quest where we go inside worlds inside paintings and dreams.

A very classy fairy tale quest. Like something George McDonald or E Nesbit would write where its about adventure and exploration instead of beating things up.

I thought about a setting where Black Lives Matter gets its ridiculous demands met and sets up a town where the "community" (the gangs) screen the police. The city is called the crib because the people on the outside view it as the home of violent infantile people.

Preview for SPATANS!
With a simple thought, you activate the auxiliary optics embedded into your helmet. The darkness of the caves is soon illuminated in a dark green filter. You see various shapes scatter and scurry away as you quickly advance through the tunnels. Your vision has been largely enhanced by your augmentations, darkness isn't an issue as much as it used to be. But the light and thermal imaging provided by your helmet are unparalleled and a blessing.

So far you've only encountered twisting pathways and empty caverns. You half expected the area to be crawling in enemy elements. The lack of a guard or any form of surveillance while appreciated, worries you greatly. Then again you don't expect much from the insurrectionist. While you advance through the tunnels at a light jog (for a spartan) you bring up a briefing on the insurrectionist of Coryner.

The rebels rooted on the planet Coryner are mainly composed of former miners and cargo haulers. When a policy change by the Colonial Government on Coryner passed legislation with the support of several megacorps, it severely reduced and cut the pay of the mine and transport workers. The pay was to be diverted towards accruing shipments of exoskeletons that would dramatically increase the mining of valuable ores. This combined with the negligence of the lower class caused the first rebellion on Coryner in Titanium Mine Sprawl 12 or the TMS-12 Incident

You slide down an incline, knocking up dust and debris while searching for more information. Did ONI have a name to the insurrectionist group? A leader?

After the first rebellion, sedition spread like fire. Reparations and apologies came too late and only fueled the fire. Several weeks after TMS-12 ONI discovered that the man who led the rebellion was killed during the incident. The insurrectionist named themselves after him. From that day they were known as Kane's Angels. Even without their leader, the Angels seem to move and operate above and beyond the level of simple rebels. This has lead ONI to speculate that their is elements either off planet or hidden on he world guiding the actions of the Angels.

You leap near the end of the incline and tuck into a roll. The compass on your HUD tells you that there are only 200 meters towards the remnants of the mine below the complex. If the measurements were correct you should be able to plant some of the C-12 there. The resulting explosions will destabilise the caves and cause massive cave-ins. Following them would be the destination of the C-12 in the building. This group of "Angels" would be stranded and separated.

>>
You slow down some as the distance shortens and your vision is illuminated by massive derelict spotlights. They flicker on and off briefly before having a long period of off time. This area carries the mark of intensive mining operations. The walls are marred and scarred by industrial tools, minecarts lay on their sides gathering dusts and rust, abandoned ores strewn through the area. You hold your DMR before you as you approach the cave mouth.

You stand in a tunnel overlooking the abandoned mines. Below you lie defunct vehicles, destroyed signs asking for helmets to be worn at all times, rusted through tracks and their accompanying minecarts, a cannibalized exoskeleton, small shacks, and beyond the mine lies your first target.

The main elevator that carries the people and materials up into the complex where they can take them to cargo trucks. You should be able to access the complex major through the shaft. All you have to do is bypass or destroy the rebels guarding it.

You spot fifteen rebels lounging about in the general area of the elevator. Men sit upon overturned trucks, some sit in groups drinking alcohol and smoking, the more attentive and serious of their numbers yell at them to get back to work and they break off into smaller groups and pairs. A group of five activate their flashlights and push out into the darkness of the mine, Two groups of three men remain by the elevator, the rest of the men board the next elevator and ascend into the complex.

You examine your surroundings to see what are your options. A somewhat derelict lift still rests beside you and the track extends towards the middle of the abandoned mine. You could ride it there and expedite your infiltration. You could also climb down into the darkness and work your way past the patrol and towards the elevator. There's also the option of using the stalactite as a way to bypass everything and drop onto the shaft of the elevator.

Quest Pitch:
Out of the two Elvish brothers, you're the older one. Due to circumstances that are out of your hands, you have both been forced to leave the Forest that you've lived in your entire life. The two of you head out into a world you've only heard tales and rumors about sung by the birds flying into the Forest from the outside.

So begins the adventurous, coming-of-age tale of two Elvish brothers growing up, learning from and depending on each other, and discovering this vast, unknown world outside the comforts of their former home.

-

A very lighthearted SoL/Adventure heavy themed Quest that could turn episodic with references to past events, people, and actions when the two elvish brothers travel around the world, meeting races and seeing places they never thought existed as they help wherever they can.

How would you respond to a historical quest that has a 'sanity/realism' stat?

When the stat is at normal levels, it's hard to change history and most events are fairly predictable. The more it goes up, the crazier things get, the easier it is to change history and the less you can rely on your own knowledge of events. At maximum levels, things that were historically a failure become viable strategies and you start pushing the boundaries of the supernatural.

Oh and all your NPCs demeanors alter with it.

Black Company Quest was on, but for now it's on hiatus since the QM is on a job in the Middle East/Iran.

I've heard good things about Audit Quest and The Legend of Peter Titmouse.

Why is lingerie so important for a tanker?
>>
>>518664
A lot of QMs aren't too emotionally invested in their concepts which stands to reason when quests can fail so consistently. Still, that's also a major reason for them to drop a quest.

As for me, I have too many ideas to actually pursue any of them. By the time I'm a couple of threads in I have another concept that I'll never do.

Arguably their goal was to mutilate ang kill people, but returning to the topic... probably something relatively low-key but useful. Like a soldier with two heads that sleep in turns and additional space in the bladder and intestines, who can remain on duty for days at end without a degradation in performance. Or just people with supressed sense of fear, which on its own renders several common battle tactics ineffective.

A monster made from stitching a fuckton of twins together, covered in gangrene and diseases because stitching people together is kind of unhygienic.

And considering his eye experiments, maybe something to do with night vision eyes.

Though I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'if they worked' considering a lot of it was killing and mutilating people and then examining the results, not testing a thing on them and then seeing what happened.

>>518723
I considered a full-brain transplant into something more dangerous than a human, like a vat-grown body or an ape or something.

In terms of things that are generally horrible but not too useful;
>American black soldiers given a full skin transplant to see what happens if you make them white. It doesn't fit well and they don't live long
>Children given an extra set of arms in the hope their brain will adjust to it. Most can't even make them move, a rare few have reduced function
>Hordes of lobotomised prisoners who've lost all higher brain functions and act like animals
>Twins that have had one lobe of each brain switched with each other. They can hear the others thoughts but can't distinguish them from their own, giving them a sort of hive mind
>>
>>518747
You can also have supersoldiers stitched together from the best bodyparts available (harvested from prisoners most likely).

Soldiers specialized for winter fighting that all suffer from a heatstroke.

Women with accelerated pregnancy for replenishing the true Aryan stock.

People with all internal organs removed used to test life support machines.

Severed heads on life support.

People being brainwashed in sensory deprivation cameras.

People with enchanced regeneration who practically consist of scar tissue.

>>

>>
>>519877
>>519919
This. If your not interested in the story yourself, your just going to end up being another "op is kill" after two threads. If you last that long.

Good storytellers have an idea they are in love with they want to share. Looking for the most popular stories and trying to make one based on gaining popularity is just going to be a hassle for you.
>>
>>519919
>>520148
Thanks for the advice, I hope I didn't make it seem like I was shooting for only popularity.

I'm currently plotting out the characters, story, etc. in a series of notepads before I start putting things into action.
>>
>>520162
While planning just remember that players are going to want to go directions you might not have planned for. Try to draft out the entire world your playing on ahead of time so you have a working frame to improv off of.

I was trading stories at work today and heard about a DM who was so bad at improv that when the party tried going into an unplanned direction he had a dragon land in front of them, tell them they had 0 chance of winning a fight, and the dragon would kill them unless they rescued its egg that just happened to be with the big bad.
>>
>>520165
>While planning just remember that players are going to want to go directions you might not have planned for.
This is why I'd like to try to run a quest where it's really up to the player where they want to go, with no real main goal. They are presented with stuff, but in the end it's their call what they want to do. They make their own quest or goal based on what the world has to offer. Or, at least I'd like to give the idea a shot.
>>
>>520203
That's a bad idea.

If you don't give the players some kind of goal they'll just flounder and the whole thing will fall apart due to indecision and a lack of motivation.

Players actually don't want full agency in their games, it's the biggest misconception some people have. Players want a goal, they just want a certain amount of freedom in how they reach it.
>>
>>520203
Then the players will dick around for a while then leave. Believe me, every game with this premise I've ever seen failed.

It's lose-lose.
>>
>>520204
>>520205
So instead of giving them full freedom, I can give them objectives to do?
>Obtain a map
>Acquire a Horse
>Gain X amount of coins
And continue along that way? It's up to the players how they obtain it. I'd like to try a quest where there is no Main Goal, but I can add several objectives the Players can strive for.
>>
>>520206
go look at a civ and see how well that turns out.

I'm not even sarcastic. Some experiment with mini-goals, others go full sandbox. Success isn't completely dependent on this design choice, but don't think sandbox means that you don't need to give your own input.
>>
>>520206
That's the opposite of what people want.

Just remember that a 'main goal' doesn't have to be specific like 'find my wife' or 'destroy the evil overlord'. It can be general, like 'travel the world out of a spirit of adventure/wanderlust.'

Just give the players a long term task without forcing them down a single successful path. How they see the world and how they sustain their adventure is up to them. Do they become a globe trotting soldier of fortune? Do they became a travelling merchant? Are they just a pilgrim that wants no trouble?

Give them a larger goal that gives them context and motivation for what they are doing, just let them find their own path through it.
>>
>>520206
>So instead of giving them full freedom, I can give them objectives to do?
Because the problem here is, why should they take interest in these objectives when they are happening in a vacuum? Why do they need a horse, a map, and some coin?

Doing things just for the sake of doing things isn't particularly gripping stuff.
>>
>>520208
>go look at a civ
I'm not touching that filth.

>>520209
>>520210

Problem is
>Civ =/= Quest
This has already been established several times when this stillborn board came to life. I'm talking about a quest where you play a single character in a story of some sort, not about building and maintaining a civilization or whatever it is you do in your Civs.
>>
>>520214
nothing about my suggestion was ever about being a single character or multiple.

You asked about having set goals, or rather not having any. I pointed you somewhere where you can get a lot of examples and see how they turn out in a lot less time than it would for quests(because civs are more closely grounded to their mechanics)

I'm not arguing whether civs are the same or different to quests, but they do deal with choice in the same way.

Whenever you are ready you should throw out the premise on here to get people sort of interested.

Then when you do run put a link in the thread.

I admit, I'm taking inspiration from existing military songs and from ultra-patriotic songs of today. Here in America during baseball games on Sunday, we have a tradition of playing "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch in honor of troops overseas and stuff (not to mention the salute to servicemen around the 3rd or 4th inning). It's quite a spectacle. Also somewhat inspired the Quest.

Let's get down to business
To defeat the Bugs
Did they send me recreants, when I asked for partisans?

You're the saddest bunch I ever met
But you can bet, before we're through
Cowards, I'll make a MI
out of you

Tranquil as a forest, fast as wind
Once you find your center, you are sure to win

You're a spineless, pale, pathetic lot
And you haven't got a clue
Somehow I'll make a MI
out of you

I'm never gonna catch my breath
Say goodbye to those who knew me
Boy, was I a fool in school for cutting gym
This guy's got 'em scared to death
Hope he doesn't see right through me
Now I really wish that I knew how to swim

(Be a MI)
We must be swift as the coursing river
(Be a MI)
With all the force of a great typhoon
(Be a MI)
With all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon

Time is racing toward us, till the Bugs arrive
Heed my every order and you might survive

You're unsuited for the rage of war
So pack up, go home, you're through
How could I make a MI
out of you?

Out of curiosity, how long has it been since the last quest based on anything Shadowrun-related?

>>
>>521425

I can't think of a quest that was straight-up set in Shadowrun, though I can recall a couple that used the rules or a bootleg version of them.

And if the generals on /tg/ and the whole "A E S T H E T I C" meme are to go by, a quest wouldn't be a bad idea at all. The trick of course is how you set it all up and run it...

To be perfectly sincere, you might be better off not having twists for a good bit. Maybe hint at them but the hints don't mingle. The twist being there is no twist. Perfect, right? Make sure to have companion NPCs point out potential plots just to get them on the good side of paranoia and let them do the rest.

Man being replaced by more efficient machinery was a big theme of the industrial revolution. What happens when the machines are people?

Also do more with the industrial setting. Are there Ice Benders skilled at using industrial coolant? Maybe water benders who get really god at chemistry because they can separate water out of solutions? Lightning Benders who can mentally tune into new fangled radio stations?

Maybe radio is a heavily regulated invention because fire benders like to use it for secret communications and ham radio operators are like industrial spies?

And for the love of God let there be guns. There not being guns in the setting was such an insultingly retarded move, especially when they start making mecha.

Aren't you already changing "canon" by playing the game in the first place? You might as well try ideas and directions the creative team didn't.

Like what would be the point of an X-Men quest or what not if you had to do everything by the comic?
>>
>>522601
Dropping a new character into a setting isn't as canon/setting-breaking (as long as they don't interact with the MC & Company) as adding stuff that doesn't exist. Don't try to justify that kind of shit. You seem like the kind of shitter who would run a Dragon Age quest with guns in it.
>>
>>522601
I personally don't really see a point in fixing what isn't broken. You should be more concerned with writing good characters and story rather than trying to bend canon to your will.

Or hell, metalbender cops crushing tommy guns when they try to fire

Or waterbenders sending water into the guns to foul up the mechanisms

Or earthbenders just making the earth swallow the shooters

Or firebenders setting them on fire and cooking off the ammo

...Benders are actually pretty damn powerful when they put their mind to it
>>
>>522639
Way I see it, if you're writing fanfiction for a story and you decide to change things up by introducing a canon breaking element (like guns), then you're just being self-indulgent. Most people who write fanfiction write it with the idea of respecting the lore of the original story. They're not out to "fix" things.
>>
>>522639
It would be pretty neat to see benders getting their shit pushed in by Not!Redcoats with Martini-Henry's.
>>
>>522644
Nobody said Dragon Age is good, but a true example was made nonetheless.
Not only would you choose to run a Fan fiction quest, which isn't very creative, but you also want to add stuff to it, thinking you can "fix the setting". Arrogance at its worst.
>>
>>522646
This. There's so much interesting stuff that can come off an arms race between normals and benders.

>>522649
>guns are canon breaking
Only if benders act like morons. All it means is that normals have ways to fight on equal footing besides taser fists.

>>522650
It would be neat.

>>522652
>Arrogance at its worst

So if someone played an Avengers Academy quest you would let Arena happen because its "canon"?

I guess we'll have to use OMD in the Spider-Man quest to. Can't touch that canon.
>>
>>522660
>Avengers Academy
Literally what? if you're going to use an example, pick a better one next time. Don't add things that aren't necessary as if you're trying to do a better job than the actual writers of the show. The Equalists had Electrified gloves, Chi blocking, and a lot of dexterity and they pushed the shit in on more than half the benders of Republic City. The only reason Korra even won in the end was because Amon's identity was revealed.

Point is, adding guns wouldn't serve the purpose you're proposing.

>Canon does not mean good.
How can you miss the point of the argument this deep into it? The quality of the canon means jackshit. If you try to add stuff to it that either doesn't make sense or isn't needed in the first place, you're ruining whatever canon there was. If you're going to run a Fan fiction quest, at least have the decency to stick to its established canon.
>>
>>522696
>>522707
Don't like the canon, but want to run something similar? Copy&paste shit over, file off the names, and add whatever the fuck you want and call it OC instead of trying to force shit into existing IPs and still call it "Fan Fiction".
>>
>>522703
>If you don't think the canon is good, why even write fanfiction for it in the first place?

Maybe because you like certain aspects of the setting/premise and hate other parts? Like say you like the "Family of Superheroes" idea from Fantastic Four but want to do things differently. So you make The Incredibles.

>>522707
>Ruining

You can't ruin something already in ruins.

Well yeah, like in my Incredibles example. Someone could easily run an industrial setting with "magicians" and hit on the same themes and ideas of Korra.

Oh yeah as someone who writes 4? 5? fanfic quests the thing I say that interests me about them is the small freedoms I can take as the writer and the ability to act within the setting to a much greater extent. You can explore things only alluded at or mentioned in passing, or take a whole bunch of general ideas from it and turn it into an unholy abomination that not even the evilest of duppies would want to interact with.

I don't really like massive changes to a setting but the thing about any idea is the execution can always usually fix any problems
>>
>>523434

As a fellow fanfic QM, I wholly agree with this.
>>
>>523434
I write fanfiction Quests because I like the setting enough to want to write in it. I don't really see the point in making massive changes unless it would actually make sense in the universe of the Quest.

>>
>>523664
Depends on what you consider a representation of what then.

If the quest is the car then I guess you're right.

But in reality, I consider the 'idea' the car.

So the idea or the car, in my idea of the metaphor, is GRRM's.

He has the original car.

Then Velo took parts of it to make a run down jalopy that he crashed.

Then I found that same idea car and started it back up with a suped up engine.

Sure, I guess I'm a rip off of Velo's stellar idea which is ASOIAF isekai which is sort of unique I guess.

But my fanfiction is still primarily ripped off of GRRM. The similarities between my quest and Velo's is very minimal at this point.

Shadowrun Anon here again. If I did want to run a Shadowrun game, you guys suggested not to fall into the pitfalls of 'muh tweeests' and just keep the story straightforward.

Are there any other things I should try to do before making a quest? In your opinions, is it better to have more or less planned out? Should I just improv or should I really lay out all the tracks?
>>
>>524299
You should at least be familiar with your world and the characters in it and who the major players are/what they're doing/how they're accomplishing their goals. And how those things might come to a head against the players, if you've given them goals.

You will have to improv eventually so for the start just have one clear mission that gets the players involved, either solo or with a team of some sort.

Improve for a bit until you find something you can use as a main goal.

Space miner guy here

I know we have to patch out our suit first buut which planet/moon/other would you like to visit next time? Unless you want to keep Mining in Vul-D. The devil you know kind of thing.

Keep in mind that:

- We don't have a permit for mining in Moj and Bucl. We can't mine there 'Legally'

-Ura is not a planet; it is an artificial wormhole. An expensive technological wonder exclusive to Hermia Domain.

- E-131 is an amalgamation of space debris and other floating objects in space or a 'Deb-sea'. Something (it varies from one Deb-sea to another) is keeping them together. Scavengers and Miners work hand in hand to extract better goodies from the Deb-sea.

I want to flesh out our next target beforehand. Vul-D felt a bit rushed

Also, anything would you like to add/comment on?

Typically its a Japanese twink getting stuck inside a JRPG and saving the day. It's been the flavor of the decade in anime along with Japnese twink stuck inside an MMORPG.

Some people extend it to "guy from Earth gets stuck in another world", but that's rather inaccurate as Mark Twain and Edgar Rice Burroughs were doing stories like that literally more than 100 years before Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari. Aura Battler Dunbine and Escaflowne did it decades earlier as well.

On /qst/ it refers to "you awaken in" quests which are really really popular (100 IPs!) but get criticized for being little more than "MC creates the industrial revolution in a pseudo medieval setting and rules over it as the god king of steam" or passive aggressive sniping matches between QM and the playerbase.

It's really a shame the idea is so toxic. I would play the shit out of something like A Princess of Mars.

Running way too many quests right now to run another, but for the sake of the future lets talk about it.

Should it be John Carter style where its just the MC that crosses worlds or should it be a little group. I was thinking something where the MC is a Flash Gordon jock who travels to another world with his nerd best friend and mad scientist mentor. It would sort of be like Ben Grimm plus Reed Richards plus Doc Brown.

I feel that making us a jock with a heart of gold and defering the "make technology" stuff to our two friends can help us focus more on adventure and intrigue and less on creating assembly lines for machine guns.

Should we be given any powers or enhanced abilities by traveling between worlds?

Should we have one Dejah Thorris waifu or should we go with local custom and get a harem and several wives?

I want the setting to be very old school sci fi. Ray guns, chicks colored like crayons, silver capes, etc. The planet we find ourselves on is a nebula. Its a big field of space gas through which oceans and landmasses float. The inhabitants travel around in giant Zeppelins and war balloons. Points of interest include floating vine gardens, ocean orbs, playful fire beings that immolate anything they touch, angel people, dragons (who you can fight, befriend, and ride). Enemies include warring city states that want to extend their atmosphere at the expense of their neighbors and one alliance in particular that wants to conqueror the entire nebula and exterminate a race of giant insects who came to the nebula long ago and set up their ancient hives in all corners, giving birth to angel people and fire people and dragons through bio technology. The alliance blames them for creating life forms that take up good living space.

Working title: Adventures in the Blue Nebula.

Any thoughts? Comments? Questions?

I had a waifu war in Sibella Quest that was resolved extremely civilly. Romantic triangles can work guys.

And you know if you go polygamist you'd have anons arguing over who is first wife, second wife, etc.

Has anyone ever actually done a quest with a harem or polygamy? I think it would actually encourage waifu wars due to hierarchy. Who is a wife and who is a harem booty call? Who do you have kids with? Which kids get which parts of your empire/estate?

It's really not a surprise first world countries dropped polygamy. It's such a can of worms.

But I'm sort of curious if the anons will develop a "got to catch em all" attitude. "We need to head to this island-continent right now! All we need is a blue girl to complete the collection!"

It could also be useful in this setting to help establish ties to the different races and city states.

So, harem or no harem?

Also, any kinds of alien races and space babes you'd like to see? What's the gimmick of each color of space babe? Do any have horns or tails or antenna?

I wouldn't mind some kind of notTwi'lek, as well as a notDejah Thoris. I'm a pretty vanilla guy though.

Be careful that this harem stuff doesn't turn your Planetary Romance into the World of Gor.
>>
>>526159
I like the sound of old-school science fiction
>>
>>526205
Rather than a harem route, I think booty calls with queens and princesses and warriors would suit the premise better. Especially if you do the old cliche where they pledge you undying love while being generally ignorant of the other girls.
>>
>>526221
If you really want to go the 50s route, they don't need to be that visibly different. They should have bullshit psychic or magical powers though.
>>
>>526241
I was thinking more the 1920s/Pulp Era more than the 50s.
>>
>>526205
>Has anyone ever actually done a quest with a harem or polygamy?
DLQ is going the polygamy route and for whats its worth it is going quite well.
>>
>>526248
Of course polygamy is going well in DLQ. I'd be more surprised if the tumblr-tier player base it has was against it.
>>
>>526205
>Has anyone ever actually done a quest with a harem or polygamy?
There are plenty famalam.
>>
>>526205
Dude, one could argue one of your quests is headed that route. I don't think its too shocking.

That said, you are right, waifu wars can be successfully avoided if the anons playing them can be civil about it. Or at the very least, can accept it if their option lost. I have seen it happen from time to time.

I think the whole deal is being dealt with care and consistency. Tough I must ask, what part of the quest excavated your salt mines?

What is the ideal way to allow players to make a character?

For a quest that I'm still working on, I have it so that players choose their gender - which physical ability (weapon proficiency) - and then something I'd rather not reveal until later.

Each gender has their own preassigned name and look.
Is that alright, or should there be more customization options given to the players?
>>
>>526528
>Selectable gender

Instant death.
>>
>>526532
Would you recommend I just preset who the main character is?
>>
>>526528
If you really want your players to shape the initial characteristics of the Main Character, pick a name and a gender and then do a narrative character generation.

I like how ME1 did it where they let you pick between options for the two phases of your past (Pre-military and post-military) and then let you pick what kind of "class" you are. Shape the personality after the first two options and have the third, combat-related option affect how the MC usually goes about tackling an obstacle unless some creative thinking is required.
>>
>>526528
More customization is good if you put some restrictions to prevent more absurd options.
Maybe preset the gender due to >>526532

Also, what quest may you be running?

>>526211

I'd like to stay quiet about the general idea of the quest until I have more to show for it.

I'm finishing up the first set of characters for one area, I just need to do some world
building and I'll post more about it.
>>
>>526205
>Has anyone ever actually done a quest with a harem or polygamy?
Beleaguered Prince Quest. One wife, two consorts and three concubines.
>>
>>526548
You could decide class and abilities by having the players select a primary, secondary and special weapon from a list.

That'd decide a playstyle and a class setup while not setting anything in stone.

People really have to just do a thing if they're going to do it, instead of fielding vague interest in threads like this. Advertising in /qtg/ has never done a whole lot to promote a quest or grow its player base.

This.

Hey guys, Trick here.

Just decided to let you all know. I've been looking at where I'm at in life and the way I've been acting online and just . . .

I'm sorry. I apologize for my behavior. I apologize for every insulting, hurtful thing I've done to or in front of you, the good people of /qst/. I've been a very horrible person here and that's not who I feel what I am at my core.

There are lots of reasons why I've made this slow transition into being a cruel, twisted person. Some of them IRL, but a lot of things doing with online as well.

I've fallen in with a bad crowd, I realize. A bad crowd that draws out all the evil things in me, all the bad impulses not for pure pleasure, but . . . in a desire for acceptance. Peer pressure, I know. How highschool. I mean we're all adults here. But in an urge to find a community of my own I found a community of hate and that's not what I want to be about any more nor is that what this community is about as a whole.

So I've made the decision. I'm turning over a new leaf or perhaps simply an old one I'd long forgotten, like a childhood toy abandoned and recently discovered in adulthood.

From now on I will be kind, courteous, cheerful, helpful, nice, agreeable and honest with my players, fellow QMs and the various other denizens here on /qtg/ and the other niche haunts I frequent her on the good ol' 4chan.

I hope you'll forgive me. Drop past grudges and past slights. I know some of you won't and I know it will take much longer for others to think of me in a new light. And that's OK! I just hope I can forge a new reputation - a new persona. One that more accurately reflect the true me.

Regardless, I hope to send time in the coming days together with you all: laughing, loving, discussing, discovering, exploring and, most importantly, questing.

It is my desire to surge onward together, perhaps . . . not as a family per se, but maybe . . . a fellowship of /qst/ers!

Good night to you all.

I can't wait to see you in the morning.

Love,

Trick <3
