You've decided to go pick up your reward at the Walker den. As you slowly approach the den, Luna hesitates for a bit.

Luna Bellus
"Ewww, Jack do we really have to? Those things are really creepy."

Jack Chitin
"Come on, it's not that bad, if you treat them with respect, they will return in kind."

Luna Bellus
"But it looks really dirty inside...", Luna continues to whine

Jack Chitin
"Stop fooling around, and come on.", you say with a sigh

You take a peek inside to see if anybody is at home. An older Walker greets you and asks you what do you need. You tell him about the situation in the swamps and hand over the pouch to the older Walker.

Elder Walker
"Thank you young human. We will not forget your effort, here take these 20 gold pieces and this medallion. If you ever run into other Walker tribes, show them the medallion, they will help you if you need any sort of assistance."

Jack Chitin
"Thank you noble Walker.", said Jack while shaking the Elder Walker's hand

You take your reward and exit the den.

"Man am I exhausted. We could stay in Casius for a day or two to rest and restock on things. Also I don't want to miss Gat's execution. I really want to know who the guy is."

"Yeah, sounds good by me. I'm not that squeamish of executions, so I'll join the event."

Jack Chitin
"You're not squeamish of executions... but you get bothered by a bit of dirt?", said Jack in confusion

Luna Bellus
"It's a mystery. I am really pedantic, I hate when things are dirty, but the scarier things don't bother me that much. I've witnessed really gross and creepy experiments by the Lunar Priests. First they would... Jack?... Are you even listening?!"

Luna pinches your cheek.

Jack Chitin
"Wha.. whe... yeah, yeah, very interesting.", you start clapping while waking up from your short nap

You look at Luna, she puffed her cheeks like a blowfish. Better remedy this fast, otherwise I'll get slapped again.

Jack Chitin
"I'm sorry, it's just that I'm really tired.", you said in an apologetic voice

Luna Bellus
"Hmm, actually I have a spell for that..."

"Oh, that sounds interesting. Alright, heal me up."

Luna Bellus
"Brace yourself, this might hurt a bit", she said in a mischievous tone

Oh boy here we go. You see Luna striking a pose and in mere moments, water droplets from the ground started to form into a ball in her hands. With more channelling time, the ball grew in size and it slowly started to form a elongated hand.

Jack Chitin
"Ehh... Luna, are you sure that...", you said a bit scared

An audible smack echoes through the town, with birds flying off in the distance, startled by the loud sound.

Luna has additionally consumed a water charge to empower the heal!

Luna Bellus
"There, all done! It wasn't that bad now was it?", she said in a smug tone

Jack Chitin
"...d-delightful..."

Even though the initial smack hurt a bit, you feel a sudden rush of energy. You get up form the ground.

Jack Chitin
"Interesting to say the least, but next time, please be more gentle, hmm? Alright, let's get to the market, like I said earlier, I need to buy some weapons so I don't have to rely on my powers alone."

Not exactly. Those charges just empower her skills for more powerful attacks. She can use all of her spells depending on how much the "moon percentage" in the top right of her profile picture is filled, the higher the value the more magic she has.

In contrast, Jack's "transform percentage" needs to be as low as possible, if it reaches 100% you go apeshit. Using his bug abilities slightly increases the percentage.

The water and crystal charges regenerate while praying and meditating.

In this scene I added one of the water charges, as an example, to boost the heal to max stamina instead of healing for +40% stamina for example. These are just rough guidelines, and you guys don't need to follow them so strictly, their main point is to encourage creative (battle) scenes when players input actions.

It fluctuates on it's own, like said in the abilities screen, good deeds and positive thoughts help remedy your alignment, and with that slows down the influence of the voice.

Well, I think it's fair to say that we should prioritize finding a weapon first. The longsword is probably a decent weapon but also the most expensive. Throwing knives are cheap but also kinda limited.

You finish buying some weapons and magical gear. These will surely help when the time for battle comes. Now that the job at the market is done, you decide to go to the tavern to rest for a bit, and maybe a couple of drinks. Luna suddenly startles you by yelling your name.

"What's the matter?"

Luna Bellus
"We need to hurry up, we've lost track of time at the market! It's almost noon, the execution, remember?"

Jack Chitin
"Gat? Oh yeah.... OH SHIT, let's hurry up then. I hope they didn't kill him yet, I want to see his face, preferably unmutilated."

You both start running towards the town square.

That's a pretty neat concept of placement indication. I will keep that in mind when upgrading the inventory system, I'm thinking of a single screen and the players could easily edit stuff in paint for further discussion.

INTERMISSION SCENE PART 1/3

You arrive in at the town square. A seizable crowd has started to gather. At the middle of the square there is a huge wooden stage with a curtain.

Jack Chitin
"Ah, it looks like we've arrived just in time. Alright Gat, let's see who you really are."

A nobleman calls for silence among the rowdy crowd. He starts to talk in a very confident and pompous tone.

Aletus
"Alright people settle down, settle down! As you all probably know, my special team of Solar Knights has captured the notorious bandit, his reign of terror is no more!"

The crowds starts cheering and chanting Aletus' name out loud.

Aletus
"Yes yes, I know, I am THAT awesome, haha!"

You scoff to yourself. Noblemen, they are all the same, if their ego could be turned into rations, it could feed an entire province for a year.

Aletus
"But without further ado, I present to you, GAT THE NOTORIOUS BANDIT!"

Everybody is waiting in anticipation. The curtains are slowly drawing apart. And with the last tug, the identity of Gat is finally revealed to the public.

At first, silence, then a few chuckles, and in a few seconds the whole crowd breaks into a roaring laughter.

Jack Chitin
"You... got to be fucking kidding me... Luna... are you seeing what I'm se..."

You are in disbelief, you can't believe that THIS is the most feared bandit in the neighbouring provinces. You slowly turn to Luna to see her reaction.

Luna Bellus
"Oh my god... HE IS SO CUTE!", she's screaming in excitement

You turn your gaze towards the sky, still with a dumbfounded look on you face.

Jack Chitin
"Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming, this isn't happening..."

The crowd is slowly toning down, people chatting between themselves, they too can't believe the fact that the face of evil can be this fluffy.

Aletus
"Yes yes, I know, me and my knights had a good laugh as well when we finally caught him, haha! So Gat, you are being charged with the following: murder, terrorism, theft among other things."

Aletus
"How do you answer to these accusations?"

Gat
"Blow me, fatso."

Aletus
"You insolent little fleabag! No matter. Guards! Prepare the execution."

Gat
"Mark my words Aletus, by the end of the day, you will be the one that will take my place on these gallows."

Aletus
"And how are you going to do that, hmm? Enjoy your last moments, you piece of shit!"

The guards are slowly starting to prepare the rope and stool, while the crowd cheers them on.

A nervous soldier approaches Aletus, and covers his mouth, trying to hide the fact that he's informing the nobleman.

Soldier
"U-Uhm, S-Sir, we might have a p-problem"

Aletus
"What is it?", he said through his clenched teeth, since he continues to wave and smile to the cheering crowd

Soldier
"The noose is too big, we weren't expecting Gat to be this small..."

Aletus
"Then tighten the noose!", he slowly said in an frustrated tone

Soldier
"That's the problem sir, the noose isn't made out of the same piece of rope, we can't tighten it."

Aletus looses his composure and start yelling at the soldier.

Aletus
"What idiot gave you these orders!?"

The soldier covers himself with his hands, afraid Aletus will hit him in the fit of rage.

Soldier
"Y-You did s-sir, we made the preparations b-before we knew what Gat was, we though he was a human."

The crowd starts laughing. Aletus is turning red like a tomato.

Soldier
"Don't w-worry sir, you can just cut off his head here."

Aletus
"No... after all this humiliation the fleebag put me through, I would very much enjoy looking at his slow and painful death by strangulation."

Aletus turns to the crowd.

Aletus
"Ahem, it seems we have some technical difficulties. But no worries my dear people, after a few minor adjustments, Gat will hang tonight!"

The soldiers take Gat away from the gallows and escort him towards the barracks, with Aletus at the front of the line.

Luna Bellus
"Jack, we can't let them kill him, he looks so adorable, he... Jack?"

You are lying at the ground still looking at the sky.

Jack Chitin
"The notorious Gat... is a fucking kitty cat... a kitty cat... I need a drink...", you continue to talk to yourself

Luna Bellus
"Uhh... Jack?"

"Well at least you weren't disappointed anyway.", you handle the bottle to Luna to take a gulp

"That's what I'm trying to figure out, there is something really fishy about this whole thing. How can a cat... I mean he isn't a literal cat, he's a species of some sort obviously, but I've never seen anything like it."

Luna Bellus
"Also you've got to admit, he's pretty adorable."

Jack Chitin
"Yeah, adorable.", you say in an indifferent tone, letting out a sigh, taking another gulp of mead

Luna Bellus
"So let's go, we're busting him out!"

You spit your drink and cough.

Jack Chitin
"You must be joking! We certainly are not!"

Luna Bellus
"Oh come on Jack, I have a feeling that there is something more to Gat than what everybody is saying, how can a fluffy thing like that be so allegedly evil?"

A small figure approaches you from the remaining crowd.

"Ahem, I'm sorry for eavesdropping, but I think that I can give you an answer to that."

Sadly my time for today is up. A bit thank you to the anons that participate and follow the adventure, I hope you find it interesting. I'm really glad that more people decided to join for today's session. I'll refine the trade system before we get another chance to buy/sell.

I quite liked the twist with Gat. I suspected that something was going to be odd with him but nothing quite like THAT. I'm sure that this guy is going to be just full of surprises.
It's pretty funny to find Jack and Luna bonding with drinks.
Really, the biggest thing I can recommend to you right now is to give us players some more information about the items we're finding to make better informed inventory decisions. For example, I really couldn't tell just from a glance at the shop's weapons what their differences were aside from how much inventory space they took up.

Yeah, I hear you about the inventory. Like with the mechanics for the characters, I'm working on refining the inventory to be more intuitive. The types of weapons are mostly for show during combat, stuff like combat style for example where throwing knives can be used for ranged attacks, and an axe for melee. I mean you can still throw the axe at something, it rests on the players on how creative they want to be in combat.

There aren't any big differences between an axe and longsword damage wise, I don't really want to bore players with a lot of weapon stats and things like that. However, there might be some [legendary] weapons/artefacts and things like that down the road.

Rest assured, the inventory and trade will be a bit more refined in the future. Thanks for your thoughts on the matter, it really does help to see what people like and dislike about stuff.

"Your kind is so adorable and cute.", she said in a quiet whisper while admiring the small cat creature

You look at Luna's sparkling face and let out a sigh, then slowly shifting your gaze toward the fluffy lady.

"Please join us, you would like to shed some more light on Gat, no? It seems you are bothered by something.", you say while signalling her to sit down

Nell
"Thank you, k-kind humans, my name is Nell. I told myself that I wouldn't attend this event, but I wanted to see Gat one last time, even if it is in these horrible circumstances. Thank Lua for delaying his execution. Maybe I will get another chance to..."

As soon as Nell uttered the name, Luna snapped out of her trance.

Luna Bellus
"Wait, did you say Lua? Your kind worships her as well?",

Nell
"Y-Yes. The prayers always help me keep peace of mind."

Luna notices Jack's face of confusion while listening to the conversation.

Luna Bellus
"Lua, the Moon Goddess, is the centrepiece of the Lunar Priesthood. However, I never though that other species worshipped her as well.", she said towards Jack in an awe inspiring tone

Nell
"Yes, we in the Yuni tribes, show a lot of respect and admiration for the Lunar Goddess, she has been kind to our species for millennia. We believe that the Goddess herself is a Yuni as well, because of her favor towards us."

Nell
"I'm sorry, I'm getting a bit sidetracked. About Gat... I know it sounds unbelievable, but Gat isn't as bad as people say. He has...", she said in a sad tone.

As soon as Nell shifted the topic back to Gat, she started to sob, tears flowing down her fuzzy face.

Nell
"He has done so much for me and my family during the tribe's darkest hours... I... I love him so much, and now... and now they are going to kill him...", she said while covering her face with her tiny paws

Luna Bellus
"Oh you poor thing...", she said in a sad tone

Luna snatches Nell and hugs her tight, trying to keep her own composure, but you have a hunch that she would like to shed a tear or two herself. Even though the whole deal with Gat confuses you with every passing minute, you can't help but feel sorry for Nell.

Nell
"You... You have such a calming aura, being in your presence, your caring and motherly embrace... you heal the scars of the soul. Thank you, kind priestess.", she said to Luna

You look at Luna and notice that she's is slightly confused herself by Nell's words.

Nell stops for a moments and blushes in embarrassment.

"Excuse our rudeness, mine is Luna and that over there is Jack."

"Sadly yes, Jack... and those are just the tip of the iceberg. The Yuni tribes are a tightly knit community so to speak, word spreads fast due to our experienced scouts and spies. Some horrors I can't even utter out loud without great pain in my heart..."

Nell
"He wasn't always like this,he was the polar opposite before he disappeared. One day he went to our neighbouring tribe and he never came back. A few months later, news of his crimes began to surface. I can't imagine what happened to him that his heart became so corrupted with darkness..."

Nell
"Luna, sweet child, you have a gift whether you are aware of it or not. The Lunar Goddess is smiling upon you. You have great potential to heal many. Wounds of flesh and of soul. Just remember that you will achieve that only through unconditional love, but I believe that you already know that. When you have the chance, place your hand on the poor soul's heart, with some practice you will be able to see their soul and every burden buried within it."

Luna smiles and blushes, at this point she is a bit embarrassed by the flattery. She never really though of herself as anything more than an ordinary Lunar priestess.

Luna Bellus
"Thank you Nell, you are sweet, Gat is really lucky to have someone like you."

Nell's smile fades again.

Nell
"I... never told him how I feel, and now I regret it every day in my life. Sometimes I think if I told him earlier, before that accursed day happened, maybe... ", she said with a few tears rolling down her cheeks.

Nell
"I know that I am in no position to ask this from you, but please child, please try to persuade Gat to cease with this carnage. Your kind heart will surely leave effect on him. I beg of you...", she said while sobbing and burring her face in her tiny paws

They might get real good stuff from helping the cats, and its never bad to have a super thief owe a favor. However, they should wear masks and disguises if they pull the rescue, Jack is already wanted in a region, and we don't really want him to be a wanted man here as well

Will helping Gat help us to control the Muderbug, or make it worse? On one hand, we are helping someone out, but on the other, isn't helping a convicted criminal just as bad as letting him die?

INTERMISSION SCENE

Back in the Urno barracks...

A soldier enters the general's office. He salutes the general.

Soldier
"Sir, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that we've received word from our scouts in Casius that Gat has been captured under the leadership of Aletus."

???
"What?! That fumbling idiot captured Gat?!" the general slams his fist on the table and stands up

Soldier
"It seems so sir, the execution was scheduled for noon, but was postponed for tonight."

The general raises his eyebrow, especially after he heard that the execution was postponed. The general laughs.

???
"Oh Aletus, you poor bastard. You have no idea what you've done..."

Soldier
"Sir?"

???
"What of the other news? We have an execution to attend ourselves, so make it quick."

Soldier
"Ah yes, the bad news. I fear we won't have the execution. The Buzzer has escaped. Our Solar priests have detected some Lunar energies near the cell room."

???
"I though as much. Luna, you foolish child... That will be all soldier."

The soldier salutes the general and exists the office. The general puts on his helmet and exits the office a few moments later. He rounds up a team of Solar knights and tells them to gather their horses. After a few minutes, the general appears in front the Solar knights, which greet him in unison.

"Brothers, we ride to Casius!"

"Of course we will help! You can count on us Nell!", she said while wiping away Nell's tears

The news put a huge smile on Nell's face, but she continues to weep, you're not sure if it's from happiness or the sadness regarding Gat.

Nell
"Thank you, thank you Luna!", she hugs Luna

After a few moments she calms down and turns towards Jack.

Nell
"Thank you as well, Jack. I don't know how to repay you..."

Luna Bellus
"Please, you don't have to, I'm just glad we can help you. Onwards to victory!"

Luna strikes a victorious pose and starts running.

Jack Chitin
"Eh... Luna wait!"

Nell
"Jack, wait a second!"

Nell
"She is a very special person Jack, please never take her for granted, even though she might seem a bit ditzy on the outside. I sense that you have a heavy burden yourself, just like my Gat. Yearn her embrace, her heart might be your only salvation."

You blush a bit, but you let out a smile and nod. You run after Luna.

After chasing her for a minute or two, you finally catch up.

"Hey... don't run off.... like that... What were you going... to do, blow up the barracks?", you try to catch your breath

Luna Bellus
"Why not? They might kill him inside, we have to hurry!"

Jack Chitin
"Wait a moment, I've done countless jobs for nobles and believe me, if one thing I'm sure of, it's their ego. Aletus wants to appease the public, to clear himself from the fiasco at noon. Gat is safe for now."

Luna Bellus
"Wait, so you'll help me?"

Jack Chitin
"Of course, if it means that much to you."

Luna Bellus
"Oh thank you Jack!", she suddenly hugs you

You're surprised by the sudden hug, but slowly you place your hands on her shoulders. You think to yourself.

Jack Chitin
[This... this feeling... Nell was right.]

You end the hug, and Luna giggles a bit when she saw your face, she mentions your blushed face.

Jack Chitin
[Oh shit... she saw me blushing again. Calm down Jack, stay cool, stay cool.]

Jack Chitin
"Ehhh, it's from the running. Yeah that's it... I'm just out of breath, that's all."

Luna rolls her eyes and smiles again.

Jack Chitin
"Ahem, so... We need to think of a plan to rescue Gat in a way that doesn't send the whole town after us. Wait... Gat is facing execution, according to the law in Casius he has the right to a last confession! Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

Luna Bellus
"Jack... you're a genius!"

"Well, I am known to say smart things at times.", you put your hands on your waist and strike a smug pose

The sun is slowly setting, night falls. You lend your cloak to Luna so that she conceals her identity as much as possible. Luna slowly walks towards the barracks entrance while you peek from a nearby tree.

Soldier
"Halt, who goes there?"

Luna Bellus
"I am a Lunar priestess that was sent from the neighbouring province for Gat. He wanted a last confession before the execution. He worships Lua, the Lunar Goddess.", you show the crescent moon on you dress.

Soldier
"Hmm, according to Casius law, he does indeed have rights to a last confession. Hmpf, didn't know that the little shit believed in anything other than his pocket. Alright, you are free to pass, but make it quick, the execution is schedule in half an hour."

The soldier leads you to the hallway where Gat's cell is.

Soldier
"Here it is, he's in the fourth cell.", said the soldier while leaving the hallway

You look inside the cell expecting Gat to be peacefully sitting or lying down, only to witness a horrifying scene. Blood spatters all over the walls, and Gat looks like he was a thrown under a stampede.

Luna Bellus
"By Lua...", you cover your mouth in shock

Gat notices you.

"Huh, who are you?"

You take off the cloak and enter the cell.

Luna Bellus
"Gat, are you alright?!"

Gat
"Pffft hahaha, you got to be kidding me. Cattle worshipping the Lunar Goddess, now I've seen everything. Your kind insults me."

Luna Bellus
"Gat, we came to save you from the execution."

Gat looks at you with a mix of confusion and disgust.

"Who do you think you are talking to? What makes you think that I need the help, let alone help from disgusting filth as yourself?"

You're taken aback by what he said.

"Gat, why... why are you doing this? They will execute you if we don't save you!"

Gat smirks, then starts laughing.

"Look at this bitch... Are you deaf you dumb whore? I would rather take another beating from Aletus' idiots than continue talking to you."

You try to keep your composure, holding back the tears, due to the insults and the whole situation with Gat.

You place your hand on Gat's heart.

You think of slapping the little twerp, but an image of Nell crosses your mind. Well, you can always slap Jack. You continue to keep your hand on Gat's heart and you try to heal him.

Luna Bellus
"Look Gat, there is someone that..."

Suddenly Gat's hits you in the face with his forehead. You fall to the ground, Gat drags the heavy prison ball with him. He stands over you and spits on your face.

Gat
"YOU DUMB WHORE!"

Gat starts to pick up the prison ball, but half way decides to put it back to the ground.

Gat
"No... only a coward would kill a woman. Consider yourself lucky, because if it were a priest here, I would cave his head in with this prison ball. DID YOU HEAR ME YOU DUMB WHORE?!"

Suddenly two guards come running into the cell.

Soldier 2
"Holy... quick, get into the cell!", he says to the other soldier.

The soldier enters the cell and swiftly kicks Gat in the head, sending him flying to the wall, leaving another splatter of blood. The other soldier approaches you.

Soldier 2
"Priestess, are you alright?"

You nod at the soldier, who helps you get up, and escorts you out of the cell.

Soldier 1
"Trying to kill a priestess who's giving you a last chance to repent? You sack of shit...", the soldier says with a mix of rage and disgust

The soldier continues to kick Gat in the stomach. After a few additional kicks to the face, the soldier stops.

Gat tries to talk through his broken teeth.

Gat
"Ish taath all yoo gott, dichfashe?"

Soldier 1
"What did you say to me you fleabag?!"

The soldier continues to give Gat a beating.

Soldier 2
"Hey, easy with him, Aletus wants him alive, just teach him a lesson, then call the Solar priest to heal him up afterwards. We don't want to give the public the wrong impression."

You start walking towards the exit of the hallway. Horrifying sounds of Gat's maniacal laughter mix with the sounds of the soldiers yelling and beating Gat. You can't help but to break down into tears. You put on the cloak and exit the barracks, you run towards Jack, but half way you stop to vomit from the emotional stress.

Jack notices you and rushes towards you.

"Holy... what the hell happened in there?! Who did this to you?! LUNA?!"

You see Luna's face covered in blood and tears, illuminated by the moonlight. You felt a sharp pain in your heart. It's just like the time at the barracks in Urno. No... it's not the same. This time, this time YOU WON'T RESIST!

You start to twitch and your breathing speeds up. Your skin starts to harden and your arms start to secrete acid.

"Luna get out of my way.", you slightly push her aside

Luna Bellus
"Jack what are you...", she asked confused

Then suddenly an image of the swamps flashes in front of Luna, she remembered what you told her. You are slowly loosing yourself, the red haze is starting to appear, your bandages are slowly starting to rip.

Luna Bellus
"Jack no, don't, please don't kill Gat!", she started to sob again

Jack Chitin
"GET OUT OF MY WAY!", you yell in a fit of rage

You can't hear anything other than a buzzing sound in your ears. The red haze has set in, you are ready to roll baby!

YES, GO LARVAE GO, I WILL FEED AGAIN!

Suddenly you feel a soft bump on your chest. You lower your head to see Luna hugging you.

Luna Bellus
"Jack... please don't... I need you Jack....", she said in a soft and caring voice, tears flowing down her face

Suddenly the red haze had turned bright white. Your muscles relax and your heart slows down to a normal rate. Your glands close and your skin softens up again.

Jack Chitin
"Luna... I... I'm sorry Luna...", you hug her tight

You hold each other for a few moments, both illuminated by the moonlight.

Luna Bellus
"Jack, listen to me. I want to save Gat as well. I did what Nell told me. And I've seen into Gat's soul. Jack... he is like you, but way worse, WAY worse. He is so far gone, I don't know if I can save him. What am I going to tell Nell...", she said in a sad tone

Jack Chitin
"Luna Bellus, you are the most wonderful and talented person that I've met in my life. I believe in you. You will find a way. Hey, look..."

Luna picks her head up from your chest and looks you in the eyes.

Jack Chitin
"If you will be able to heal Gat, fixing me would be a piece of cake, right?", you say in a comic tone trying to cheer her up

Luna can't help but to laugh, but she hates you for making her smile in a situation like this.

Luna Bellus
"Jack, you blockhead!", she puffs up her cheeks and hugs you again

Jack Chitin
"Alright alright, enough of this emotional business. If we want to save the fleabag, we have to head towards the gallows and fast."

"Hmm, there will be a lot of people there, we might use that to our advantage. In the panic we could snatch the little kitty cat and I'll capture him in a crystal cage."

"Yeah that sounds good. We could cause a diversion with the crowd. Aletus isn't quite bright, I doubt he'll be able to damage control the situation."

You arrive at the gallows, a few moments later, the convoy arrives as well and escorts Gat to the stool. People are starting to gather, and are cheering Aletus on. I guess the public forgave him the little fiasco.

Gat
"Ready for round 2, fatso?", Gat said in a smug tone

Aletus
"Oh shut up you fleabag."

Gat
"You know Aletus, I haven't forgotten my little promise."

Aletus
"Yeah yeah, I'll hang bla bla bla", Aletus rolls his eyes

Gat
"Yes, in a moment now, you know why? Because you made critical mistake in your plan."

Aletus
"The mistake that I didn't chop your head off back at noon?"

Gat
"That right cattle, also you didn't bring any torches, the town square is pretty dark."

Aletus
"Who gives a shit? The moonlight is illuminating the place just fine."

"Exactly...", he said with a smile

Gat raised his chained up hands and started to laugh maniacally.

"SHADOWLINGS, ARISE!"

A dark portal opened bellow Gat's feet, some sort of black liquid spraying out of it with tentacles trying to get out. Gat falls though the portal and disappears completely. Everybody gasping in shock.

Suddenly multiple portals open through the town square. Cat creatures emerge from them. But something isn't right, they don't look like regular Yuni cats, they are cloaked in flickering shadows with twisted and disfigured smiles on their faces.

"Haha, slice to meet you AHAHAHAHA!"

The shadowlings start to mutilate the soldiers. The crowd starts to panic, women screaming in horror.

"What in the bloody fuck?!"

Luna Bellus
"Jack, I'm sensing strong Lunar energies emanating all across the town square. No, it's not possible, how can Gat control so much Lunar energy?!"

Shadowling 2
"Haha, time to go out with a bang AHAHAHAHA!"

Jack Chitin
"Luna, get down!"

You jump and push Luna to the side. You cover her with your body and harden your skin with your Living Chitin ability. Suddenly a giant explosion among the crowd. Bloody gibs flying in all directions.

Jack Chitin
"Luna are you alright?!"

Luna Bellus
"What?!", she can't hear you from the explosion aftershock

You see Luna's lips move.

Jack Chitin
"What?!", you can't hear her from the explosion aftershock

You signal a scratching cat hand in the air. Luna nods. You both stand up and look around. Carnage everywhere. Shadowling slaughtering everything in sight. Luna notices a great Lunar energy surge at the gallows stage, she grabs your shoulder to get your attention and points towards the stage.

You try to help the civilians get to safety, but whoever you grab they are either dead, or soon to be dead. You look towards Luna, she's holding her head, tears flowing down her face, the usual hundred yard stare. You've seen your fair share of that, whenever you take some nobles bug hunting. You run towards her.

"Luna, can you hear me, Luna!", you shake her by the shoulders a bit

"So many innocent people... Jack we can't save them all!"

Jack Chitin
"We need to stop him Luna. Look!", you point towards the stage

A portal opens on the gallows beam. Gat emerges from it.

Gat
"Ahh sweet carnage, music to my ears."

Gat notices you two running toward him.

Gat
"Oh dear, what will I do now?"

Suddenly a portal opens in front of you two and a giant tentacle sends you both flying. Luna luckily lands on a hay stack, you on the other hand end up hitting a wooden wall, the Living Chitin breaks the fall a bit.

Gat grabs the noose and jumps down.

Aletus
"You idiots! What are you doing, get him!"

Gat grabs Aletus' crown, puts it on his own head, and drops the noose around Aletus' neck.

Aletus
"Wait, what are you doing you fleabag!"

Gat
"You're lucky Aletus, your fat will make for a clean snap of your neck. Too bad I won't be able to enjoy your suffering."

Gat lands on the stage and pulls the lever. The gallows trap doors open.

Silence on the town square, except for a couple of surviving civilians, that are too scared to run away and are looking at Gat in horror. The shadowlings start to prepare Gat's entry while he slowly walks down the gallows stairs.

Hear hear cattle, your new rules comes, THE ONE, THE ONLY, GAT THE LORD OF SHADOWS.

Gat arrives in front of the scared civilians and takes a bow.

Yeah, things went south pretty quick. But like you said, the fleabag needs to be contained.

Well, today was a pretty productive session. A lot of things happened today, I don't know how you guys feel, but now that I look back, maybe I've made the session a bit more emotional than usual... also a bit more bloody than usual as well.

So what do you guys think of the session story wise today? To much tears? To much blood? Who am I kidding, there can never be too much blood in a dark fantasy setting.
I wanted to portray Luna as this sweet girl that is capable of so much, but life sometimes spits in her face and she has trouble dealing with that.

Anyway, tomorrow is a green light, I'm doing a session, unless a giant meteor strikes my house or something. So, prepare for tomorrow, because boss fight with health bar and everything

After 10 minutes of carnage and pandemonium, the town square descends into silence. Smoke, debris and human body parts scattered all over the square. Gat drops to the ground and stretches just like an ordinary cat.

"Entertaining the cattle sure makes you tired.", Gat said while curling up into a ball

Gat takes a look at the remaining civilians that are paralysed in fear.

"Ehh, kill them as well. Let them scream me a lullaby.", he signals the shadowlings by pointing at the civilians with his tail

"Gat! Stop with this senseless slaughter!"

Gat twitches his ears and turns his head towards Luna.

"Oh, it's you again toots. Hmm, now that I got a second look, you're packing some pretty nice melons there. You might be useful after all. Why don't you come over here an pet me a bit?~", Gat said while striking a sexy pose

Gat notices Jack, and focuses on his bandages.

Luna starts to gather water form the ground and channels a liquid torrent towards Gat. He quickly jumps out of the way.

"Whoa toots! What in the...", Gat is surprised by the magical attack

Jack calculates the arc in which Gat is travelling and throws a few knives to intercept him. The knives slice him up and continue flying in the distance. A critical hit!

"Agghh! Damn you fucking cattle! "

It seems he has underestimated you for simple soldiers, since he didn't expect any magical attacks. Gat licks his wound and spits the blood, while keeping eye contact with you.

Gat finished channelling, suddenly two shadowlings jump in front of Luna. She covers herself with some crystals to deflect the incoming attack.

Silence.

After a few seconds Luna peeks through her crystal shield only to notice the two shadowling lying on the floor purring, with big hearts bulging in their eyes. You find your opening.

Luna Bellus
"Take this you horny fleabags!", she said while punching one of the shadowlings, sending him flying past Jack

Gat
"You idiots, can't you do anything right! JUST FUCKING KILL HER!", Gat starts to throw a tantrum while hissing

Now is your chance, while Gat is distracted, you grab your hand and gather your thoughts, you let the inner voice a bit loose to charge your attack. Instead of a spraying mist, you focus on a heavy pressure burst. A few seconds later you launch the acid burst, hitting Gat's whole body. The acid torrent knocks him to the ground.

Gat
"AGGHHHH! IT BURNS, I CAN'T SEE!", Gat tries to remove the acid that is eating at his fur

Jack Chitin
"Luna! Now is your chance!"

Luna starts channelling the moonlight and suddenly crystals start to erupt from the ground, slowly caging Gat.

You stand your ground and wait for Luna to finish the cage. Gat is still rolling on the ground in pain from the acid. Luna finishes the cage and you approach the cage to look at Gat.

Jack Chitin
"The game is over, kitty cat."

Upon closer inspection you notice half of Gat's body has severe acid burns, maybe you should have went a bit easier on him, but remembering what he did to Luna, you feel less guilty. He'll live, Luna can always heal him up.

Gat
"Uggghh, I never though I would meet a Buzzer in my life. Ugghh, it burns, fuck.", Gat rolls in pain

Still, even after everything, you can't help but feel sorry for him. You give Luna a thumbs up and shout.

Jack Chitin
"It's over. I know the fleabag deserves the beating, but can you heal his burns a bit? To reduce the pain at least."

You shift your gaze back to the cage. You're in shock when you notice that in the cage is a shadowling instead of Gat.

Jack Chitin
"WHAT?! WHERE IS..."

Gat switched places with the knocked out shadowling that Luna punched and send flying near Jack. He jumps on Jack and grabs his arm.

Gat
"Time to squash this fucking bug! AHAHAHA!", Gat laughs maniacally

Gat aims for your heart, but you are able to swing a punch and break his jaw with your free arm. Gat swings nonetheless, but misses your heart and stabs you in the shoulder. Then launches himself off of you, throwing you to the ground.

Luna Bellus
"JACK!"

In mid air, Gat snaps his fingers and his body explodes in dark liquid. In the same place appears another shadowling. He switched places again.

Luna Bellus
"Oh no...", you realize that ignoring the other remaining affectionate shadowling was a mistake

Luna looks to the ground.

Gat
"Hey toots, how about a kiss?"

Gat jumps in the air and hits Luna in the head with an uppercut punch, knocking Luna to the ground.

Luna tries to ignore the severe pain in her jaw and starts forming a crystal in hopes to channel a laser from the moonlight.

Gat
"Oh no you don't toots!", he said while stepping in your palm, breaking a finger bone or two

Luna Bellus
"AAAGHHH! NO PLEASE!"

Gat
"Nobody, and I mean nobody, CAN DEFEAT ME!", Gat yells

Luna Bellus
"Gat please, why... I wanted to help you, she wanted to help you, Ne..."

Luna is interrupted by a kick to the face by Gat. He looks at Luna for a moment in silence, then chuckles. After a few seconds Gat starts to laugh uncontrollably.

Luna looks towards Jack. He's trying to get up but the pain makes him vomiting blood. Gat probably severed his esophagus with the last stab. She can't help but cry..

Luna Bellus
"Jack, please help me, please come and save me...", she said while sobbing

Gat notices Luna's cries for help. Something isn't right. Gat's hands start to shake, he drops his dagger, and takes a few steps back from Luna.

Luna's cries for help triggered onsets of loud and demented noises that echo in Gat's mind. He grabs his head.

Gat
"No, I'm sorry, I can't help you Luna, no please forgive me... I can't save you... PLEASE STOP NO!"

Gat drops to the ground, screaming and crying.

Gat
"NO I CAN'T SAVE YOU... I CAN'T... PLEASE STOP!"

Luna looks at him in confusion.

He's panicking, and panicking people are unpredictable and dangerous. We will have time to talk with him once he's neutralized and Jack is kind of not severely injured and unable to protect Luna in case Gat decides to be a dick again.

I guess that in his emotionally weakened state, a laser would be overkill and a water blast should cause enough concussive damage to knock him out

Portals open around Gat, giant tentacles erupting from them, the dark liquid spraying in all directions.

Jack Chitin
"Luna... blast him... now is your chance!", Jack tries to speak

Luna gathers water from the ground and start charging the blast. She's ready to fire at Gat, but hesitates.

Luna Bellus
"Jack, what if the blast kills him? What if he falls into that portal and dies?"

Jack Chitin
"I know... but if you don't try to knock him out... I can't keep the voice at bay any longer! So he will be dead for sure then!", Jack shows his arm secreting acid

The portals are growing rapidly. Luna looks back at Gat and starts to release the shot.

Luna Bellus
"Gat... I'm sorry..."

Suddenly a huge cross made of light flies towards Gat and the tentacles, ripping everything in front of it, vaporizing the tentacles and closing the portals. The cross picks up Gat and sends him flying in the distance.

Sanctus
"Feel the power of the sun! Die you wretched demon!"

The general starts looking around and yells.

Sanctus
"That is one down! I know that you are here child, come face your death with dignity, for releasing the prisoner!"

I'm sorry to cut you guys off on a cliffhanger, but sadly I ran out of time for today. I hope you had enjoyed the session today. Tomorrow is also a green light as well.

I noticed that during combat with Gat, nobody used the inventory items. Any particular reason? You guys are free to be creative as much as you wish, you can even add your own explanation to the possible actions.

Also, feel free to give your opinions on today's session, what you like, any aspect you want to see getting better in the future etc.

I'm constantly thinking of new ideas, mechanics and stuff, but it's only in my head in a "maybe" phase. If you guys have some specific wishes or ideas, please don't hesitate to tell them, it can only help me make things better.

Well, I personally wanted to save them for Sanctus, because we are gonna be pretty screwed if he finds us in our heavily wounded state. The throwing knives and spell of swiftness might just give us the edge to slip away.

And for new ideas, perhaps we could find another buzzer like ourselves somewhere down the line, because it would be cool to see if there are different kinds of murderbugs aside from the mantis. We could even get a little buzzer gang together!
