Your hand has found skill, but your mind is restless, the only way now is forwards.

The time it seems has come for you to move on. You plod around the ancient statue and up the hill, past the blacksmith, through the forest gate. You walk along the path, eyeing the haunting woods cautiously on either side, looking for any sign of hollows or other beasts. A long walk it seems, but you’re travelling light so you don’t tire.

Behind you a twig snaps. You turn a draw your sword, a hollow in nought but a waistcloth shambles toward you. One punch from its claw hand is blocked and you stab it through the chest. Its soul rises and rest into you.

The road continues for long yet uncertain amount of time. A fork in the road stops you in your tracks. The left and right paths. The left continues through into the forest, with no sign of an end. The right path seems to just stop around a hundred meters down, there seems to be some sort of mound or pile there.

A bird whistles a wistful tune.

The trees creak under restless winds.

You step back as you see words appear on the ground at your feet.
go right, protect yourself

Left seems like it goes on to the moors, and since right is a dead end you see no harm in checking it out before continuing on. You diverge down the smalling track toward the mound, as you approach you begin to make out several figures standing around near the edge of the trees, next to the mound.

You proceed much slower now. The mound comes into focus and you now see it is in fact a mound of corpses, mostly burnt and rotten, many loose bones scattered around it. On the top, a relatively fresh body with a white sprite floating above, it also seems to have some relatively good condition armour.

Nearby there are three hollows, standing and swaying idly. One is armed with a large sword around a metre and half long, the other two are equipped with spears and and round shields. They are all armoured in torn gambeson and thick trousers, and a pot helm on top of their heads.

The shrieking wind howls above, and tree groan with strain.

A crow calls out.

There are three hollows visible.
>Hollow 1: Bastard sword
>Hollow 2: Spear and shield
>Hollow 3: Spear and shield

Is there a reason not to summon him? Seems like a nice guy and jolly co-op is always welcome.

Kneeling down, you clutch the White Soapstone in your hand and speak a small prayer directed to Kaydin. A line of runes burns gold into the ground in front of you, it radiates incandescent light, gross and brilliant like the sun. The shape of Kaydin rises forth from the ground where the writing sat, a golden avatar of light, with arms outstretched to the sky, palms facing outward.

The three hollows notice immediately and begin advancing, trotting forward with weapons ready. Kaydin pulls an Incensor from his waist pouch, he raises it high above his head, a long crackling rod of golden lightning is conjured from his hand, he grasps it tightly and hurls it at on of the hollows. A loud crack and a fizzle and the hollow lies dead, its face and right shouldered now molten and charred.

The hollow wielding a bastard sword charges forward. You step forward and block one blow with your shield. As it recoils from Kaydin slices its leg, you lunge forward and bury your sword in its chest.

The last hollow makes a desperate lunge for Kaydin, but he nimbly knocks the spear from its hand. You slice it across the back and Kaydin finishes it with a swift strike through the neck. Its head peels off of is neck and flops over backwards.

“A joyful battle that was, I thank you for bringing me here. But unfortunately my time is limited and must leave soon. I cannot do this often either for reasons I cannot explain to you. You may have to wait a while to summon me again.
Since you won’t always have me around you may want to have this. In case you find yourself with some cretin who would love nothing more than to have a sword buried in you back, or a boulder on your head. Us it to send them back to where they were summoned from. But do not use it fickley, for the gods are always watching, and always judging.”

His phantom fades and the light dissipates, and gives way to the gloom of the forest. Where he stood a small token lies on the ground. You stoop to pick it up and see that it is a small round badge, gilded and with a seal depicting the sun on the front. A hint of warmth can be detected emanating from the medal.

With all threats gone you approach the corpse pile, the fresh corpse on top looks clean and its steel inlaid leather armour still mostly intact, and would be much more protective than your ruddy cloth. The body is almost certainly dead.

The wind begins to die down, and light clouds halt right above.

The forest is silent, except for the occasional rustle or scamper of tiny animal feet.

Both loots, equip armor & shield. Then carefully poke/dig through the corpse pile using the spear, avoiding any surprises in the pile, like getting deceases or getting surprised by 'living' things in it.

Check surroundings from time to time to avoid ambush.

Also, we should consider resummoning the guy to discuss the issue with the 'evil' path dude. Maybe we could try to plan to kill him together?

After pulling the corpse off of the top of the pile and onto the ground in front of you, you begin to strip it. The hard leather is clean, and good to wear if you ignore the smell. The helm is in good condition and made of sturdy metal, the rest is of fire hardened leather with steel reinforcement. You remove your tattered old cloak and hood and don the armour, re donning the cloak and hood over the top.

You wedge your sword in under one of the corpses and pry it off the pile, a swarm of flies spews out of a fleshy crevasse squirming with maggots in between the cadavres. After a second thought you decide it unnecessary to delve through the pile.

Returning to the slain foes you decide to discard your spear and pick of the bastard sword, in case you face any armoured enemies. You also find two small shards of tinanite.

There seems to be nothing more for you here so you return to the main path and turn right. The track narrows slightly for a few score meters, then widens, and keeps widening until finally the forest ends and the track becomes a road that stretches on across the rocky moors.

The hills and downs stretch on, to dark mountains to the north, and past the horizon to the south. Straight ahead, west, is a great dark mountain jutting out of the earth, with a grim, stout tower surrounded by high walls at its base.

To you there seems something wrong with earth. In this area it seems as though the very ground is telling you to leave… or die.

To one side of the forests end there is a small encampment, two pitched tents and a bonfire burning gaily. One figure sits beside it, polishing a longsword in his hand. You stride over and slump down next to Kaydin, Nearby you now see a second person, behind one of the tents. You lay back on you hands and think of food, and drink.

The sky is turning grey with heavy clouds and thunder rolls in far off as you are lost in thought.

There is not a sound of creature anywhere.

After a brief uninvited nap, you rise and see the sky is darkened and the hour late. Kaydin is retired to one of the tents. You look around and see the other figure still shifting in the shadows behind the other tent, just outside of the fire light. You cautiously move towards them, waving your arm to get them to notice you. The leans forward, apparently stooping down for something. They pop back up promptly and see you.

“A customer! Come here quick and let me show you my stock! You won’t regret it.”

You walk over slightly faster now, intrigued as to what he might have, and if it will help you on your journey. As you rotate around the tent you see the pudgy little woman has a small stand set up. She steps down off of a stool propped behind the tent and moves over to her makeshift merchandise stand. It’s not much more than half a barrel stood up on a wooden scaffold, all tied together with coarse rope.

“My name’s Annice, let’s see if anything catches your fancy.”
