RECAP:
You are a mech called Autobots Assemble, but more commonly known as Arcee. After befriending a mech named Moverlord when he picked you up after you got your brain hacked, the two of you went on a quest to catch the hacker. After dealing with a crazed shareware Seeker who tried to steal some presumably important info, you found out from a friendly pawnbroker that the mnemosurgeon you're after is named Craniotomy and the data you hold is information on a mnemosurgery cult's members.

When you found Craniotomy's hideout, you descended alone into the dark Kaon underground. Craniotomy faced you first with a remote-controlled amalgam of the mangled bodies of the two Seekers. After a tense and ugly battle, you caught up to Craniotomy himself, where you learned the true purpose of the cult - to operate and hack brains unhindered by any sort of moral or legal boundaries, in order to push the limits of mnemosurgery. You also learned why he hacked you in particular; when he tried to steal the data, you chopped off his hand, rendering him useless as a surgeon. Finally, you learned you were working for a group called the Iaconian Protection Force, to take down this cult.

Seeing how down and out Craniotomy was prompted you to adopt him and keep him around in case he proves useful. The three of you journeyed to Iacon, where after a tussle at the Business Directory you found out that the IPF isn't as up-and-up as it seems. On the hunt for more information, you encountered Goggles, a mech who works for an equally illegal artillery and weapon company. With some help from him and his boss, you found your way to the IPF, where you found out you had been fired with ignominy. Your boss offered to let you come back if you handed over Crany for execution. You refused and made a run for it, during which Crany got shot. You split your pursuers up and led them away from Moverlord and Crany so they could get to an underground clinic. After you got healed up, you found your companions with the help of the doctor. After a heart-to-heart with Crany, the three of you split from Iacon to make your own way in the world and also get your brain fixed.

After crashing a bit at Moverlord's place and deciding what to do next, you and Crany head back to Kaon and get a job from the Hot Wings pawnbroker, a secretary gig at the Boring and Refusing Company. A few days pass uneventfully, but fate can never leave you alone for long. The office fire alarms ring, and the office is bombed, injuring quite a few. At first, you were expecting it to be an act of corporate espionage, but the lack of any files missing nixed that. Meanwhile, Crany discovers (in the surprisingly intact office) the remains of smoke bombs used to set off the fire alarms. You suspect these were used to drive people toward the booby-trapped entrance. But for what purpose?

Well, you should probably inform management before anything else

Also this may be an inside job, so stay on your toes

Playing it smart, you inform both the customer service manager and the R&D manager of your suspicions, telling both of them that you informed a few other people as well. CS manager is rightfully pissed and does a lot of flailing his arms and kicking things, but doesn't seem to be hiding anything. The R&D manager seems to consider things a bit more, and tells you he hasn't seen anything amiss in his department. He doesn't know who would be important enough to be targeted at the office, either, or why there might be an attempt to kill multiple people here. What he does know is that he did a little poking around and discovered the explosives that were used weren't manufactured in the company labs. His proof is that whoever it was used a high amount of energon-based hydraulic fluid for a neutral substance, which is more commonly found in people's joints and in DIY medical shops, and is therefore a damn weird thing to use in bombs.

investigate to see if anything is missing, if someone went through all the trouble of setting off these bombs then someone was here for something

You scour the office. You haven't worked here for long, so you ask the people that are still here to check to see if there's anything missing. When you find vacant computers, you check them yourself. Nobody turns up any project files that are gone, or that were copied or moved during the time of the explosion.

The only thing you find missing are your coworkers that were caught in the blast. There's no pattern - a couple are from R&D, one from customer service, two from HR. As far as you can tell, there was no connection between these people.

Someone from HR notices you taking initiative and calls you in. He has something he thinks you should see, as it involves you.

Several employee files were opened yesterday after hours and HR had no reason to do so or records of having needed them. The opened files include yours, Crany's, the secretary before you, and several before him, as well as all managers and the boss. Only people with access to meeting schedules were looked at. He says it might be nothing, somebody maybe just needed to schedule something, but he thinks it's a good idea to keep an eye on anything weird.

Sounds like they scheduled a bombing. This likely won't be the only attack, either

You go back to your computer and pull up your schedule for the next few days, as well as Crany's schedule and all the managers' schedules.

There's a new meeting marked down for tomorrow afternoon, and the three local managers are meant to be present, as well as the managers from two other branches. You and Crany have to show up to take notes as well. If someone is out to maim as many people as possible, the meeting isn't a big target. But if someone is targeting a specific person, that's a perfect opportunity.

You don't remember organizing this meeting, and the boss didn't mention it, so you check who did. Turns out it's registered to Crany's computer.

You take a moment to ponder everything you've been through. Truth be told, you handled it all pretty well. Crany seems to be getting a little more self-confident and morally sound as well, so that's a plus.

You go out and buy two Slurpees and give one to Crany, then send an email to Moverlord saying hey, hope things are going well, see you soon.

Crany appreciates the thought, but thinks the timing is somewhat strange.

Ask Crany about the meeting. Also check to see if any particular associated accounts accessed meeting manager files, unless the company uses group accounts for some dumb reason

You ask Crany if he organized this meeting. He says he did, on the demand of the CS manager, but the two of you certainly weren't registered to be there when he last looked.

Both the R&D manager and the HR manager accessed this meeting since it was made - at least their computers did. The change was made when the HR manager's computer accessed the files. There's also a notice for several failed logins from a different computer in the call center.

You ELECTRON MICROSCOPE and flip the fuck out absolutely everywhere. People are asking what the hell is your problem all of a sudden. You book it to the HR manager's office and find him sitting in front of his computer.

You grab the HR manager's face and pull. Nothing comes off, but he starts yelling, and so does the guy standing next to him. Hey, it's the call center guy Crany punched 'cause he made all those hand jokes.

You ask him what he's doing here. He says it's to follow up on a report he submitted on Crany for punching him. You tell him it must have really hurt to have a guy half his size punch him with a little claw hand. He says shut up and mind your own business.

Anyway, you ask the HR manager if he set you up the bomb. He says don't you remember he showed you that suspicious thing with someone looking on this computer after hours. Although he should have mentioned everyone has the password for the damn HR computer with all the reports that come through here. He can't be bothered to file them all himself you know.

Call center guy says he's leaving before the stupid gets infectious.

There's an info end of the InfoFist, and then there's the fist end. Most people don't have connection ports that work with the data stick, so you use the fist end. Liberally.

You don't get much information out of him. He says everyone needs to stop fucking punching him and wait is that your buddy's severed hand? Get the fuck away you weirdo. He gives you a whack in the gut and runs out the door.

Well, that gives you an opportunity to check out the call center network. You pick yourself up and wobble over there.

HR manager is yelling after you that he's going to have to write you up for this.

You tell the HR manager just what you wanna, and punctuate it with a transformation and a squeal of your treads as you burn rubber on the linoleum. You knock some people down.

You wake up the call center guy's computer and pull up the network. This computer has a sticker on the corner marking it CC0622. Oh, nice, there's a physical map as well as a network map. The hundreds seem to be rows, with the evens and odds on either side.

CC0431 is right... there. And seems to be occupied.

You saunter casually over.

There does seem to be someone there. He looks like a regular guy. You think you remember him from the scene of the explosion, carrying out a bunch of datapads with the rest of the call center guys. He doesn't seem very suspicious, just bored.

You come up behind him, and real casual like, you ask if you could maybe ask a couple questions.

"Fire away."

You were just wondering if he wanted to change Crany's meeting schedule for some reason so you and Crany had to attend the meeting with all the managers.

"I work in the call center, mate."

...Yes, that's very obvious. That's not any sort of an answer at all. That's a complete change of subject. You ask if he had any reason to change the meeting so the secretaries had to attend.

"I don't work in the secretary jobs."

Oh, for Primus' sake. No kidding. You ask if he knows anything about the bombing and why, specifically, someone pulled up all the files of all the people that are now scheduled to be in the meeting, the day before the bombing.

"None a anybody's business."

It IS your business. By definition, it is your business. The whole entire business is your business.

You tell him, flat out, that there were attempted changes made from his computer, and that only after his changes failed did someone using the HR department computer make those changes, and you know damn well that everyone knows the HR password, and you'll go straight to the top with this unless he can prove he's innocent.

He leans over to you. "Okay, smartass. I'm gonna tell you a secret. There's another bombing scheduled for that meeting and someone - only one person - is gonna die. You're just there as scenery so shit don't look suspicious. And trust me when I say that one person does indeed gotta die. You'll make it out fine, I guarantee. But if you try to go anywhere with this, I got several big friends around here and there will be more than one casualty."
>>
(At keyboard.)

try and figure out who would want someone dead whos at the meeting
>>
>>147220
The attendees to the meeting are the head boss of the branch, the HR manager, the CS manager, and the R&D manager. The head bosses of the other branches are also coming, bringing their secretaries along to take notes. You and Crany, of course, will be there, added as an afterthought by a mysterious assassin.

You don't know who the target is or why. It's not you, if call center guy is to be believed. The HR manager is hazardously careless, the CS manager is a jerk, and the R&D manager could be a threat to anyone trying to attack the company as a whole. You haven't met the head boss yet, and you don't think the target is someone from another branch. Out of this list, you definitely don't know who would "need" to die.

As far as suspects go, call center guy is #1 on your list. He's a master of deflection. The kicker is that nobody needs (or wants, probably) to be present during the attack, so that opens up the additional suspect/accomplice list to pretty much every normal worker in the office.

You ponder what the R&D manager told you about the remains of the first bomb - the joint fluid (extracted straight from people's joints) being an unusual component and not available in the labs. You ponder who would have access to that.

Call center guy asks if you can ponder somewhere other than behind his desk.

(I just the entire thing and had to redo it. Sorry for the wait.)
