BREAKING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are not even hiding it anymore, Microsoft logs all your key presses and stores it in their data centres.

If you value your privacy, you have to switch to linux.

Windows 9 was as anti-privacy as I could have possibly imagined and was pretty much written by Orwell.

Looks like they found a way to make it worst.

What'll end up happening in the long run is 3rd-parties developing ways to update older more secure OSs to compensate when MS stops supporting them to try to force people to upgrading to the newer Draconian shit
>>

They tried to force their shit with the Xbox One and the backlash was so massive they had to remove everything and the sales of the console are complete shit now. If this is true you will have to make an even bigger shitstorm for this. Linux is too complicated for the mainstream users. They are never going to switch.

the whole point of the technical preview is to evaluate the os and discover any bugs, of course Microsoft is going to collect data to improve windows 10. They outright say not to use it on your everyday computer or if you are dealing with sensitive data
>>
>>36748247

> you have to switch to linux.

I tried but it was hard. There are like 500 versions of Linux. I mean Ubuntu, Gentoo, Gnome, OpenSUSE, Mint etc. What do those even mean? How do I know I am getting the right one? They all look different and I dont know what is the most update. And what about video games? How do I know they will work there? I have 1,000 steam games.

Is easier to know what is the latest version of windows and install it.

Wait, there was a win 9?

So instead of taking a bit to make a decent OS, they put out a bunch of shitty ones so people keep spending money to upgrade to escape the previous pile of shit. Repeat ad nauseum.

I'm on 8.1 and I hate it. I'd voluntarily downgrade to 7 if I could. This is a COMPUTER, not a smartphone, I don't want it to be a smartphone, if I wanted a phone I'd buy a fucking phone. Shit. Got fixes for it and still can't eliminate that shit.

They keep pushing you to register with an email account to access your computer. And hotmail is giving me grief about verification for my account I've had for years. "update my security info." its alternate address listed was one I made at age 12 and don't have a password to anymore, and the cunts won't let me change it. So they texted a code to my phone to let me get into my email. Now they have my phone number, including area code. Fucking bullshit. There is a windows store app (yes "app", not program, "app") on windows 8. "Give us more money for inferior, flawed spyware."

On initial startup, you make an account, it wants to link to your windows account IE email used with the windows store and their shit. Supposedly to make it safer to use (IE so you don't forget your password, for literal retards) and easier to upgrade. Except it's for trying to make you buy shit and probably to keep tabs on you.

8.1 is shit. Those damned edges...charms or whatever. Even when you disable them in settings, which you have to hit up like five different menus to do, they STILL occur. using mousepad...oh, edges activated! up pops metro sidebar, I have to click out to get back to regular computer. I got classic shell to get straight to desktop at startup, but can't find a good workaround for the charms shit yet. "Tap here." CLICK, YOU MEAN CLICK, IT'S A COMPUTER HOLY SHIT.

Ars Technica is a widely-respected tech journalism site, and their articles are all well-sourced. These all deal with the wanton data collection and collaboration of the NSA and the UK's GCHQ.

>of course Microsoft is going to collect data to improve windows 10

Way to water down the issue. As if data collection can't be voluntary.
FTA:
>"Examples of data we collect include your name, email address, preferences and interests; browsing, search and file history; phone call and SMS data"
Oh yea. All that info is going to help them "evaluate the os and discover bugs". Please MS, take my SS# and blood type while you're here.

Even congressmen aren't safe. Imagine who has the real power here with this sort of information, maybe that's why nobody who gets elected nothing actually truly changes

>The National Security Agency on Saturday released a statement in answer to questions from a senator about whether it “has spied, or is … currently spying, on members of Congress or other American elected officials”, in which it did not deny collecting communications from legislators of the US Congress to whom it says it is accountable.

>On Saturday, the New York Times published a letter from Robert Litt, in which the general counsel for the Office of National Intelligence denied allegations that Clapper lied to Congress in March, when questioned about NSA domestic surveillance.

Anyone got the infographic of firefox addons to counter data collection?

Thanks to Snowden, we now know the NSA:

* Had James Clapper lie under oath to us - on camera - to Congress to hide the domestic spying programs [Occured in March, revealed in June](http://www.nationalreview.com/article/350699/clappers-lie-charles-c-w-cooke).

* Warrantlessly accesses records of every phone call that routes through the US thousands of times a day [June] (http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jun/06/nsa-phone-records-verizon-court-order)[September] (http://www.politico.com/story/2013/09/nsa-broke-rules-call-tracking-96571.html)

* Steals your private data from every major web company (Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft, et al) via PRISM[June] (http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jun/06/us-tech-giants-nsa-data) and pays them millions for it [August] (http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/aug/23/nsa-prism-costs-tech-companies-paid)

* Pays major US telecommunications providers (AT&T, Verizon, et al) between $278,000,000-$394,000,000 annually to provide secret access to all US fiber and cellular networks (in violation of the 4th amendment). [August] (http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/nsa-paying-us-companies-for-access-to-communications-networks/2013/08/29/5641a4b6-10c2-11e3-bdf6-e4fc677d94a1_story.html)

* Intentionally weakened the encryption standards we rely on, put backdoors into critical software, and break the crypto on our private communications [September] (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/06/us/nsa-foils-much-internet-encryption.html?pagewanted=all&_r=1&;)

The NSA collects now for about 15 years all data it can get its hands on

The NSA has an warped interpretation of language (Eric Arthur Blair might have been on to a thing or two) – they say their surveillance is not surveillance

The NSA could shut down bot-nets with QUATUMBOT and COMMONDEER, however chooses not to so (so much for "protecting" us)

The NSA has build The Great Firewall Of The Earth

The NSA uses QUANTUMINSERT to insert malware into websites inlucding e.g. CNN.com

If the NSA is for some reason restricted by law, they collaborate with their partners (e.g. GCHQ or BND) who do not have that restriction

The NSA loves Yahoo and CNN.com

The NSA uses SOMBERKNAVE to use your WiFi-gear (even if you switched if off per software)

The NSA uses STUCCOMONTANA to own the BIOS on your PC

The NSA targets the infrastructure in its totality, _not_individual targets

The NSA uses DROPOUTJEEP / STRAITBIZARRE to own iPhones

The NSA uses IRATEMONK to own the firmware of harddrives

The NSA uses MONKEYCALENDAR to install applications on SIM cards, which will then track when and where the user goes

The NSA is interested that people's hardware and software is vulnerable to attacks – they have zero interest in making hardware and software safe

The NSA uses ARKSTREAM / TWISTERDKILT to target the "Host Protected Area" on a hard drive

The NSA says it is "interdiction" when they steal mail in order to manipulate hardware

The NSA uses (among others) BULLDOZER / KONGUR to implant bugs into your computer

The NSA uses IRONCHEF to add an two-way radio to an computer

The NSA uses COTTONMOUTH-I (CM-I) to put a wireless bridge into an USB-connector (!)

The NSA uses COTTONMOUTH-II (CM-II) to put a wireless bridge into an USB-plug (!)

The NSA uses active(!) radar with up to 2 kW (!) to "illuminate" an bugged target hardware, which will send out data via the ANGRYNEIGHBOR exploit hardware

William H. Pauley III

Among his notable decisions was that involving Ben-ami Kadish, a U.S. national who pleaded guilty to passing classified information to Israel. On December 27, 2013, he also ruled that the NSA's bulk collection of metadata on nearly every phone call made in the United States is legal.[1][2] Pauley's ruling contrasted with a ruling of a similar suit in the D.C. District by Richard J. Leon.[3]

You're not listening to me, faggot.

You reported your speculation as if it were fact. It is not. Report what your sources say, not what you feel. After you report the facts, then move on to speculation and probabilities.

I'm not defending MS at all. They were proven to be part of the PRISM program that spies on everyone and reports to the gubment. I'm simply asking for you to report what is known, what the source says, then move on to what is probably happening.

Use a power strip and just unplug everything when you're not using it.
It won't stop them from accessing your files while you are online, but hopefully you'll notice the activity when they do & shut off manually.

Don't leave your computer on and accessible all night.
Stop using laptops with a built in camera, use a modular desktop with a camera you can unplug from the USB.

Most of all, say "screw you" to the NSA. If they come forward with, or leak any incriminating evidence against you, simply say they planted it in the files themselves. How can they prove they did not?
>>
>>36752762
NSA has these capabilities, doesn't mean they are using them on illegitimate targets.

>wow its fucking nothing

1)Its the voluntary preview/beta of what use would be to microsoft if it had no way to see how the OS is used and if there are issues what have you.
2)Any OS you are trusting someone a whole lot, Apple love to hide what goes on under the hood. Linux is no better with thinks like shell shock, and Android gets shit tons of malware.
3)If you get some special snowflake OS you probably only single yourself out as someone actually worth spying on.
