The moon and sun being in the same exact path slightly increases the overall gravitational pull on the earth. Although you will not "feel" anything, it is enough to influence the tides, and moreover, plate tectonics.

As you are all probably aware from spam threads, scientists have predicted that the Yellowstone super volcano has been flaring up with hundreds of micro-earthquakes appearing in the past several weeks, with several being recorded just yesterday.
