This is pretty true. At least for me. My grandfathers ancestry goes back to some of the first people that came over the the US from Europe. He was a b52 pilot in WW2 and met my Oma in Germany. She was a German citizen and they fell in love and got married and she immigrated here after the war. She used to tell me stories about how before the war really kicked off her and her friends used to go the parades so they could catch a glimpse of Adolph Hitler. Apparently they all though he was dreamy. She was unaware of any wrongdoing being done to the jews but had quite a few stories from when the allied forces came through her town. I have always felt a connection the German people and it makes me sad to see their country destroyed from the inside out. They were a strong people once.

A lot of us would like for our country to be a little more like the US what with free speech and self-defense and all that, but the questionable legality of our constitution leaves us stuck under the boot of the main banks more or less directly. Hence why the right-wingers among us appreciate you despite disliking the influence you wield and/or the way you wield it, while left-wingers reject you right along with us. Every nation in the West is obsessed with America because we have the world's largest economy, and we're usually the ones pumping money into their economies via trade and aid. We love consuming shit and and can't import enough garbage. America also loves to influence other countries and we do that mostly via aid money. We also export many things that other countries love to consume, mostly intellectual property such as Hollywood blockbusters, cartoons, television, Pop music, etc.

So of course this is all going to create a love/hate relationship with many countries. If we disappeared off the map or completely shut down our economy, the World would freak out since they just lost one of their biggest customers. Our growth accelerated so much it's impossible to not interact with the US in some way. Some people love us for that, some people hate us. For Germany, its both, because they love money, but hate our brutish culture. I think its a relationship that works for the most part.
