Look if you want a "traditional" torch, just get a piece of wood, wrap a long piece of cotton or preferably kevlar around the tip. Soak the tip in kerosene for about 15 minutes to an hour.

However unlike the tiki torches it will probably only last about 30 minutes on average, maybe an hour if lucky. Then will need to be resoaked in the kerosene. The tiki torches are just quicker to use and more efficient.
