It's not objectively one of the worst though. Admittedly litecoin is better for your day to day transactions but bitcoins coin limit of 21000000 is low making it scarcer. In my opinion, Bitcoin should be treated like your savings account and litecoin should be treated like your current account

download a software wallet, like electrum

register at an exchange like kraken. crypto exchanges that deal with fiat money are by law required to get some info on you so dont let that scare you away

or you can just search up other ways. there are hardware wallets which are safer and there are other exchanges to buy Bitcoin, or other ways altogether like buying it localbitcoins to buy it from someone in person craigslist style

>It won't double or triple for sure.
It can easily go to one million per bitcoin. There is not enough bitcoins for everyone. If it becomes popular among normal people (which it might) then the price might skyrocket.

People said it had reached a ceiling when it was $10 per bitcoin. Nobody imagined that bitcoin would be worth $20 or $30. People said that was silly, but in reality there is no upper boundry.

other cryptos are pretty much worthless and only have indirect value because they can be traded for BTC. the only thing that matters is the real world adoption and Bitcoin is the big leader, nothing else comes remotely close. guarantee you 99% of cryptocurrencies after Bitcoin were made by people who were salty that they missed the train on Bitcoin and wanted to creat something supposedly "better", then shill and market the fuck out of it, just to get rich. but the real world does not care about technology (they dont even have the time or knowledge to look into it and try to understand it with the 1000 altcoins that exist) they care about "damn my competition is accepting Bitcoin and they had a lot of new customers, maybe we should accept Bitcoin too". it's classic demand and supply and demand is proportional to real-world usefulness

Take your BTC off the exchanges by getting the keys. You can download your BTC onto an eternal wallet like Trezor and no one can take your BTC.

On an exchange like coinbase, coinbase basically own your BTC and can seize them at any time.

How you download them and "get the keys" - I'm unsure how you do this, but I'm sure theres youtube tutorial videos and other info

So the point of buying precious metals isn't for the % increase year over year, it's for a potential crisis in the value of the dollar?

That seems like one hell of a bet, you only make a profit if the country is burning. Doesn't seem likely to me. I can see investing some money into precious metals "just in case", but without a steady year over year growth in price it doesn't seem like a sound base investment.

Apart from the ones that haven't yet, but they will. The reason they fail though is because of fractional reserve banking, not because they are fiat. Abe Lincolns greenback was fiat and that didn't have the same problems the USD has, and neither does Bitcoin
>>
>>137385888

It's a bubble. Its """"value"""" is driven solely by hype of idiots like those in this thread and nothing else. this is a simpleton's understanding of BTC.

The price of non-BTC cryptocoins (altcoins) rises and falls proportionally with the price of BTC.

For instance, an altcoin that has a market value of $10 for .0015 bitcoin will still have the same market value of $10 if the price falls to .0011 BTC if the price of BTC goes up

There is an opportunity to make twice your money if you can buy altcoins when BTC is low and sell when BTC is high AND the altcoin is increasing.

Stop thinking of the USD as the end goal and the master of the crypto market. Who cares if you lost some USD, if you gained BTC you made a profit because BTC will always be increasing

I would say when BTC is in a mild dip or has held its current value stably for a while.

$1000 on BTC into OMG this very instant would buy you 160 OMG. Say the price of OMG goes up 10% and bitcoin stays the same. You made $100. say the price of OMG goes up 10% and bitcoin goes up 10%. you made $110.

So if you bought bitcoin at $4000, and OMG at .0015 Bitcoin, then bitcoin goes to $4200 and OMG goes to .0017, you're making far more money than you would have if you traded USD for OMG.

But here's the kicker. EVEN IF BTC was $4k when you bought it and OMG was .0016, then BTC falls to $3k. OMG's bitcoin value would DOUBLE in order to retain its USD value. Then when bitcoin goes back up to $4k, you made $1000.

Or just hold on to your BTC for a few years and make thousands.

I worked a construction job for £120 a day before tax for 3 years, every Friday was my payday I'd give my ol' dear £100 which covered my cost of existence + £2 a day daily commission for putting up with me leaving me with £600 a week, 25% of that went into BTC every week throughout the cool down from the late 13 bubble (first BTC I bought was 0.8 at the height of the April 13 bubble at around 190 usd on the coin). I got my best buy when I got a tax return but didn't really have anything to spend it on so I just put it into BTC to keep it locked away and growing - I bought 6 coins for about 2000 USD little did I know I literally bought very very close to the bottom those 6 coins are worth more than 20k now. Anyway I quit my job in November last year to day trade for 0.5% daily gains (incredibly easy) that's around the amount my job used to make me apart from now its 7 days a week instead of 5. Literally the most comfy 'job' I've ever had. The best thing is is that slowly over my time with BTC more of my friends have gotten on board and I've been able to sell them portions of my profit at a super low commission (1% standard) and they have all made well from it also, on top of that I am managing some funds for a few of them now getting them more BTC gains. With that said this bull run will come to an end and considering the market indecisiveness coming up to Nov 1st I am beginning to cash out properly until I got my initial back as I got a few other operations worth investing fiat into now thanks to the amount of free time I have. I'll also be looking to switch primary to shorts instead of longs when the bear trend eventually takes over the market. Honestly if I was on the fence then try to pick up a correction or something like that.

It's not centrally controlled by anyone, so they can't take fees abitrarily, and they aren't even needed.

You need to read Satoshi's white paper and his emails. Really, do it, if you want to understand what it exactly is.

My guess is that Satoshi was a big humanist and he made a great gift to humanity. The fact that he never moved any of his BTC for other reasons than testing the system proves he isn't interested in money.

He could cash out with 4 billion USD.

you really think they are just gonna hand you money if the internet is down and we are at war ? do you know how many people will be in line ? once the internet goes out the stock market is practically dead and basic transactions wont even work anymore.

it is naiive to think you could even get your money out at that point and even if you could it would only benefit you for a short period of time before inflation will fuck you over completely and a loaf of bread costs a million USD.
>>
>>137398466
Why would you do that?
>>
>>137400361
No, every 10 minutes a block mints new coins and the fees also go to its miner. The block reward(newly minted coins only) is halved roughly every 4 years and now it's 12.5 BTC.

China has the largest hashrate. Russia investing in increasing their mining rate.

Imagine a world where China can decide that now this chain is the longest and falsified transactions bleed you dry. Good luck with "muh economic mass" when the infrastructure is comprised and in about three days you'll be killing each other for food.

Think of BTC like the USD of currencies.

No matter where you go in the world, USD is often required when purchasing certain goods, such as oil, minerals, metals or art.

BTC is the same way. For every other cryptocurrency, BTC, due to its popularity and being first, is the standard currency for trading.

I expect an extreme crash in BTC in the coming months, though. We're approaching a correction in the financial markets, and when the dominos begins to fall, people will liquidate their BTC for FIAT in order to not default on their mortgages.

Cryptocurrencies are the future, but as of today BTC is to be considered a luxury good. And luxuries are always the ones to be hit the hardest during financial crisis.
>>
>>137400297
It cannot work if it's centrally controled. That's the whole point of the trust in the blockchain, and thus the price.

You guys are so contrarian that, this time, you are really retarded.

Bitcoin is king, however if you're clever enough you can make money off the pump and dump alts if you buy when they start shilling it and sell once it rises
>>
>>137399896
Well I don't think it will scale that much at all but really its a very modest amount for BTC, most crypto traders actually laugh at me when I tell them that, also thats .5% of my initial not of my standing balance, its not a compounding .5% daily target or anything like that. So far though I've had over 1077% gains YTD on my 'fund' from trading profits + asset appreciation of course that is all unrealized profits until I cash out. You can laugh at me when you hear its crashed back down to the mid 1000s region.
>>
>>137400661
Except the incentive for keeping it working is too high.

If we figure out they are cheating on the blockchain the value could collapse to 0 and they would lose all the money they themselves invested in BTC
>>
Why is this worth so much when it does nothing? How is that not strange. You guys can claim it's a crypto currency but the reality is every discussion I see about Bitcoins is about it's worth trading not it's use as a crypto currency.

You can trade it for any currency in the world, as well as goods and services. Not just illegal ones.

I have several debit cards for when I travel, with different currency denominations to avoid fees. All I need to do is deposit BTC, and I'm charged at the current market rate. Anonymous banking at its finest.

BTC is a financial instrument the same way diamonds are. Nobody fucking needs it, but everybody wants it. And you won't have a hard time trading a handful of diamonds for anything in the world.

You can generate an adresse and anyone would be able to send you BTC that only you would hold.

We could agree on many things: you sell me your car or any good for a certain price on BTC, nobody know it's yours, nobody know I sent you this money.

At the moment nobody uses it as a currency because the price keeps climbing, so we'd rather use our fiat because that's shit whose price keeps collapsing.

The BTC is worth more than gold because you can transfer wealth very fast from one person to another safely, and your money is accessible from anywhere with an internet connection.

Basically, as long as there is the internet and electricity, BTC will be the thing.

Are you sure?

And still 1% of users among 7 billions is still 70 millions, which makes it liquid, provided we all have an internet connection.

The BTC was only invented 8 years ago, and it's still a technology of the future.
You'll see.

I mean, we reached $ 4k despite it being very complex and despite all the scepticism of normies. I think we have the PoC that it's worth something.
>>
Its really stupid for /pol/acks to hate on bitcoin

Even if you think its some kike scam, use it to make some $$$ get rich af then bounce out.

Cryptos are the economic beta uprising. Only NEETS and GEEKS are online all day and night; enough to have known about it early.

Wat? I've only seen pro bitcoin coverage in normie media.
Anyway the 99% was just a random number. Fact is that I don't know of any business that would price it's services in BTC. When that starts happening I might start believing in it but not till then.
>>
>>137402881
Also it's less complicated than going to the bank, ask for a special cheque, be asked questions about what you're going to do with this money, hear the banker grumble and take 1 week to give you the very money that is on your bank account,
Because you want to use 15k to buy a fucking car.

If you have 3 BTC, it's way easier for everybody.
>>
>>137402881
and by the time they do accept it nocoiners will be fucked.
btw, If you had bought 1 BTC 24 hrs ago, you would have just made $200 by sleeping on it.

>>
>>137403518
Yes and if you bought one 2 weeks ago you would have lost the same amount. Hey if that happens I'm fucked or rather I won't have lots of free money. If that will indeed be the case you should be happy as you'll essentially make money of my decision.
>>
>>137403460
You don't deserve to post with this flag.

>>

t. didn't buy sub $1000
I got in late last year but at least I got in.
>>
>>137403510
It is less complicated but a lot riskier. How can you price you car at 3 BTC when next week that could mean the car is 20% more or less expensive. The retailers would have to adjust their priced hourly to be able to use BTC to price their goods. That basically negates all the convenience the buyer gets from using BTC.
>>
>>137403665
if you got cash dump it on ETH

eth at least has history of ATH being $400 so its 100% guaranteed to get back there (1st law of crypto)
>>
>>137403579
Gold is not a currency. And its not ''my'' definition.
>>
>>137403665
No, the price has been rising since the end of June.

Stay skeptical, we will see if the future proved you wrong.

Also, try to read Satoshi Nakamoto's white paper, it's a bit technical but if you have enough knowledge to understand it, it might make you gain some dollars.
>>
>>137403817
Like I said if you're that confident my scepticism only benefits you. Just don't come crying back if you don't manage to cash out before a major crash.
