The show has good gags but the main plot is too stale and family friendly for something that's supposed to be an adult sci fi action-comedy. I understand that it ties the show together and makes it more coherent but it's being done in a way that's taking away from the more interesting and wildcard aspects of R&M.

I understand the points you're getting at because I've seen them in more blatant circumstances, but it sure doesn't feel too strong in RnM.

Having the name sanchez doesn't mean a whole lot in correlating to Rick being smart. If that is even the intent, its pretty piss poorly communicated, and certainly not 'in your face'.

If you want someone who is seen as intelligent on television, you need to give them some diversity, can't just be a pure white person these days because that'd be perpetuating racial stereotypes and being unfair and reeeeeeee or whatever people bitch about these days.

And the "all white males are beta cucks" is just what television has become - it's the standard formula that's been going on in television this past decade to make all white men look like fucking retards while minorities are made to look like they SHOULD be the ones running things. It's why I only watch perhaps 1-2 shows at all now (which is for the best), because everything that exists is made to make white men look dumb as fuck and everyone else to look like closeted geniuses.

Okay here's what's truly wrong with it.
Watch the original short by Justin Roiland called Doc and Mharty. Funny but gets a bit obnoxious. This was the essence of Rick and Morty but Harmon purified it into a form bearable for 30 mins. The best episodes stick to Roiland's roots and are highly improvinisational and tangential. It really started turning to shit when surprise surprise reddit got it's dick hard and started memeing about the backstory and lore and becoming attached to meaningless characters. Whenever the show panders to this it ultimately turns to shit because the characters actually have very little depth and that's not what the show is about. It's meant to be Rick and Morty doing completely off the wall interdimensional shit; if it involves Rick and Morty going nowhere or Summer painfully tagging along it turns to shit because it becomes forced as they try way too hard to emulate episodes that were great because it seemed like they didn't give a shit about them. Rick and Morty fandom kills Rick and Morty. Pickle Rick was shit because it was just some cool animation and Rick was painfully cringey because he's meant to be an emigma not some fleshed out standalone omnipotent character. Just a dirty old man who needs someone like Morty to shit on otherwise he wants to kill himself

I enjoyed Pickle Rick, but I also think the quality has dropped way off.

It's more like they're leaning on the animators to produce interesting visuals now, and the writers are just producing filler. In fact, they're undermining the interesting stuff being animated by treating the return to status quo at the end of the episode as a foregone conclusion.

The episode concept is solid: Rick turns himself into a pickle to avoid family therapy, gets himself into a pickle, and has to get himself out when it seems like he should be totally helpless. Meanwhile, there's a parallel, relatively mundane plotline with the other members of the family.

First serious blunder: separating Rick from Morty for nearly the entire episode. Rick and Morty is about Rick and Morty going on adventures together, built around their improv dialogue. I mean, you can switch the sound off for first two seasons and play each episode like a radio drama, and it mostly works. Rick has no one to talk to, and no audience, there's no one to react to the crazy situation like a normal person. No Pickle Morty, no Morty desperately trying to deal with a Rick-scale situation where Rick can only give him instructions, no Morty getting radio messages in his fillings to come save Rick. Big mistake. Now it's just wacky lolrandum action.

Second blunder: the parallel plotline is genuinely boring and mundane. They've got one bottom-of-the-barrel joke (shit-eating), and one anti-joke (the therapist takes all the craziness in stride and is genuinely competent and, as we're supposed to intepret it, insightful), like the joke is that you were expecting something funny, and they rub it in your face that they're not providing it. Ha ha. A third of the show is filler.

Third blunder: no mindfuck. This was literally a day in the life of. Rick and Morty has a Twilight Zone aspect. It says something in each episode about either the real world or popular fiction that leaves you disquieted and contemplative.
