The so-called Gleiwitz Incident is a post-war fabrication. The sole source for this story was a postwar affidavit by one Alfred Naujocks. Incidentally, Naujocks was under threat to be transferred to the Soviets.

Naujocks claimed he was ordered by SS leaders Heydrich stage the incident. Well, Heydrich was dead. There is not a single shred of documentation that backs up Naujocks' story. No orders, requisitions, prisoner transfer orders, transport manifests, Nothing.

Naujocks' story is patently ridiculous. He claimed that the concentration camp prisoner were given lethal injections and then shot. Why not just shoot them in the first place. The doctor that Naujocks mentions by name has never been found.

To top it all off, Naujocks story is contradicted by contemporaneous news reports at the time that said that ONE Pole had been mortally wounded and he was wearing civilian clothes.

So why this fabrication? To make it look at the Nuremberg Trials that Poland was completely innocent of instigating the German attack. Naujocks' didn't testify, although he was in British custody, because his story, submitted as an affidavit would have been picked to shreds.

But then there are idiots who will fall for it.

The story that Erwin Rommel was forced to commit suicide is also based on a single source: Fifteen year-old Manfred Rommel.

Earlier, Rommel had been wounded when his staff car was strafed by a British fighter. Rommel had suffered a head injury and was convalescing at his home.

I only heard of those rumors from the American papers after I was taken prisoner. PROSECUTOR: You never heard during all these months that succeeded the death of Rommel up to the end of the war, that it was generally, said that Rommel had been "bumped off "?

VON RUNDSTEDT: No, it was merely said that he had been under suspicion.

It was very possible that Rommel had succumbed to his injuries and an honor guard was sent to collect his body for the state funeral. Was Manfred Rommel fed the story to make his father look like he was anti-Hitler? Manfred Rommel has told different versions of the story.

In any case, a single source with no documentation should be looked upon with suspicion.

Hitler understood their fears and so in his 13 point plan he stipulated that in the event that Germany won the plebiscite that would determine control over Pomeralia (Province of West Prussia) then Poland would not only be granted an extra-territorial road to Gdynia but would also be given full shipping and trading rights with Danzig much like Lithuania had been given with Memel. If Poland won the plebiscite then the same deal still stood only that instead of Poland building a railway, Germany would build one to Danzig instead, connecting East Prussia to Germany proper.

The point is that appeasement would never work. Hitler's economic policy would lead to quick bankruptcy if it wasn't for new conquests, as such his government's diplomatic effort was focused on forcing appeasement that lead to taking over banks etc. with relatively huge gold reserves.
Poland is exceptionally good "target" for such forced appeasement because we've started adopting "keynesian" program by 1938. Before that we were amassing gold reserves in our banks, which is the "classical" way of dealing with crisis, making the game worth playing. Take over the banks and you suddenly have money to pay off the massive debts you took from Rothschilds.

I'll need the numbers for that or perhaps a book that goes beyond 'The Wages of Destruction - The Making and Breaking of the Nazi Economy' if you please. And you don't have solid evidence to say he would have come back for Poznan and Upper Silesia other than speculation. Weakening the Polish state would not have been in his best interests at the time since he wanted them to join the Axis (An offer which Poland refused) and wished for them to take some more Ukrainian land (Which we all know the Poles wanted) upon an eventual victorious war the with Soviet Union.
