It will be harder for Syrian troops to fight IS in the future, as Iraqis just liberated Mossul, in few weeks possibly, or as I expect later in this summer, they will have defeated IS in Iraq, noone knows what they will have as Problems after that, but I don't think that IS will be so stupid to continue fighting with IS, while Iraqis can't croos the border with Syria of Course, I bet it will remain small skirmishes and only somewhat militarised border, because both need their armies to supress uprisings. So Syria will have to deal with IS now fully concentrated on their front with new, Veteran reinforcements, this is going to be bad if they would push for Aleppo or Damascus, who knows what Turks will do then.

Nah. The 7.62x39 is about as effective as the 5.45 in use, but the 5.45 is deadlier and has better wounding power in every way.

Plus, the 5.45 is made for closer engagements, and is lighter so you can carry more ammo, making it king when it comes to urban combat.

Mixing ap and ball ammo gives it better performance than 7.62 in every way in urban combat. The only downside is that you suddenly have to convert your tooling to 5.45. Less trained militaries will also not see any markable improvement from switching because they can't make use of either round properly, so the cheapest option wins.

The problem is ISIS has no AA. Anything larger or more important than an old Soviet manpad, stingers from Iraq (almost all of which were used already), or truck mounted 14.5mm/23mm guns has been destroyed.

They lack the training to use the truck mounted AA to any effectiveness, even in its incredibly situational time that it could be used. On top of this, planes fly too high to get fucked with by old manpads, everything has flares during combat runs, and using them at all requires them to not run for the hills just to shout snackbars.

At best, they can shoot down a ferrying run, or non combat lines transport helicopter. Maybe an su-17 or mig-21 if they're lucky enough to surprise them before they load flares into every aircraft again.

Once total air superiority has been achieved, it cannot be broken without aircraft itself. Even a good SAM net will barely be able to contest it at that point.
