I'm thinking something along those lines. First everybody will be against the Lannisters, then the white walkers come in and everyone unites with the Lannisters to fight them and stability is brought back to the realm when they defeat the white walker king.

The series ends with the white walkers (white people) getting slain by dragon glass (Their inability to slay the dragon within). The armies think they can fight eat other off, but can't. The dragon "queen" gets killed. The dragons die to the cold winter. The earth becomes a snowglobe and nobody wins.

G.R.R.M already stated that the ending will be bittersweet and unconventional. The ending wont be about good winning over evil or evil winning over good, nothing like that... you can only speculate about the ending. No, the knights aren't anything special. A lot of the notable ones are old and the one that fights in detail get's his shit rocked by Bronn. The region is just difficult to invade with just the lord's castle being impossible for an army to attack. The old gods are real, but they're really just the collective consciousness of the children of the forest somehow embedded into the weirwood trees. Wherever the weirwood is, so can the old gods see and influence people. Sweetrobin starts having seizures when he gets a weirwood throne and that's because the old gods are trying to possess/warg him. It's been shown in both show(Hodor) and book(Varamyr Sixskins) that if you try to warg a person, they'll have a seizure. Most of what Melisandre does are parlor tricks, and little of it is actual magic.

We KNOW it's post-apocalyptic, because The Long Night is canon, but what's really strange is that they've been in a medieval dark age for 8000 years, and no one has the technology/knowledge to reproduce the great wonders of the world like the Wall or the Titan of Braavos, so it's clear there was a loss of technology/knowledge. He even wrote a book about a medieval world that used to have interstellar travel technology before a massive war sent them back into the dark ages.
