Most of us have priced this in. It's the bagholders with shit in money markets still holding any retail exposure because these niggers aren't fiduciaries.

Not to mention voting for tax cuts for the super wealthy will just further consolidate the cash flows into the top richest peoples hands.

No ones blaming trump, in fact he was probably the only person to name one of the culprits and that's bezos. They have antitrust issues. Walmart and other stores need to watch out, Amazon's buying up wholefoods and will crush more of the labor market, and basically dictate inflation going forward.
>>
>>131349262
>I don't see how it could be blamed on Trump. Aren't these places going out of business because online shopping is taking over?

Retailers decided quite a few years ago to stick with the cheapest-quality, overpriced crap while treating & paying employees like garbage. Data mining is first & foremost, much more than actually selling the crap.

People were forced online not to be stuck with the limited crap brands which totally monopolize the shelves.

I walk out of stores when an employee is forced to harass me for personal info to save 10% today, or their gimmick "savings" cards where they upmark it to where you're still overpaying anyway.

Not happy about the Amazon situation, but you can thank consumers for letting it happen. It's all about cheap & convenient in too many towns.

Watch people come together & fight like hell if something in mcD's french fries, or coca cola changes, though. Mess with Potato chips? There would be stampedes of protests to put it back!
People are fricked up.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm kind of worried about this. Retail represents millions of jobs in our economy. With stores dying at the rate there are, that's gonna put the squeeze on the earning power of quite of a lot of people. And then the money they'd be spending on other services isn't flowing anymore, so that hurts those industries, and you have this whole shitty cascade effect.

I believe this is gonna snowball into something bad if the trend continues.

>Kmart closed in my town, while Walmart opened a second location. Their business models are outdated and they cannot compete.most of the stores mentioned are in malls and malls are dying.

The only one in my mall that's doing well is Victoria's secret, they just upgraded from their tiny regular store to a big central hub.

I assume because women like my wife will always still go in to try stuff on and get my wallet 2 and 3 for 1'd to death even though she buys a crapton of little fluff stuff online.

Otherwise mine has two asian massage parlors now..wtf.

I'm a gen X mallrat so it still feels comfy but really I only go in there to stare at a wall of vidya or collectibles I'm not really going to buy or a haircut.

Recently decided I didn't want a 60 year old shriveled cambodian lady or nig cutting my hair in the mall either and went to the standalone sports clips full of qt young white ladies.

A nig only barber opened in my mall too. Kangz Korner or something like that.

When niggers started mobbing the entrance of my local shit-tier mall, I stopped going and that was several years before the internet became a viable means of shopping.

I'm not going to lie that people are getting lazier and there is a decline, but online ordering is just path of least resistance here. Nobody I've ever spoken to in the boomer or silent generation for example "likes" shopping and the only reason why they don't order online instead is either because they're too old and don't know how to computer (silent) or they are scared of "hackers" (dumb boomers).

Daily reminder that Technological Unemployment is not only a symptom of late stage capitalism fueled by automation in the way of software and robotics, but also a symptom of late stage capitalism's granting to the individual a technological ascension of sorts. No longer is a man or woman bound to their community to purchase. A click here, a bank card there, and you've got items from Asia on your doorstep. Also, let's not forget the technology that allow these new disruptive business models to exist and destroy physical existing models of business.

tl;dr - You're actually living in the most exciting time in human history. If you survive it, you'll be telling people about it for centuries.

Then comes Famine.(Yellowstone, Wall St., this, earthquakes, tsunamis, misc un/natural disasters, resource destruction, etc.)
Then no more. (curtains close, the show is over because free will got man nowhere but a Luciferian planet)

>So much for that "service economy", eh guys?

There is a fundamental unanswered question about the future:

If everything automates, everything's super efficient, we all buy from immense warehouses and supply chains that require hundreds to supply tens of thousands..

Where's the money going to come from? We're excluding so many people the online stores won't have customers with jobs to fund their purchases. It's all such a death spiral. And like you said "service economy" is bullshit, people need less service than ever, and will need even less the better technology gets. Cue fast food terminals and machines that spit out your burger just like you ordered it.

Here's where UBI and shit like that comes in but it's just grasping at straws. Nobody knows how that would work at all.
>>
>>131351752
The only reason I shop online is because Amazon has the best customer service, best selection, and pro consumer policies.
However there will come a time when they monopolize the industry, start getting lazy and become shitty to their customers, and they will ultimately become bankrupt.
It's the beauty of capitalism. Either you strive to continually impress your customers or you become irrelevant.

other benefits
>less roadway traffic
>retail space can be repurposed for housing, farming or whatever is in demand and applicable
>many things become digital such as videogames, reducing packaging material use
>>131351896
assuming that happens (it won't)
then products become cheaper, people have more money in their pockets to exert demand on more products, which require more jobs
>>
I work in retail while I'm going to grad school, and search for some other job that doesn't make me want to die. I'm convinced that the only way we stay in business is because of people who need the product immediately or because it's not practical to ship what we sell through UPS.

nice flag. Thinking of moving there. Major malls and shit that go belly up languish for 10-25 years before banks just pay to have the demolished to be used as new land for housing developments. Bullshit, the big chains are folding to amazon and then they just fill try to patch up the void with some nigs focused business that barely come in anyway.

It's just like what broadcast TV went through before being mostly superceded by cable. All the shows became Steve Urkel and Cosby, every sitcom was suddenly a black family. Why? Because all the whites moved to cable TV.

White technical progress like Amazon is so obviously the cause here. Nigs moving in is just a visible symptom of the major market share moving elsewhere.

>Neoluddites are fucking worse than neomalthusians.

I'm not a luddite. I love what technology does for me. I don't want to live in a cave. In fact any slight step back on technology and billions will die, we're just that close to sustainability limits to begin with (look up the yield gain story on staple crops).

But I notice you didn't have any answers.

Nobody seems to. There's just hemming and hawing about "industrial revolution was fine" and vague mumblings of "new jobs will be created". Except they aren't. The entire west is in crisis mode trying to handle the change that's coming, and it's coming soon. Whatever they try seems not to work as intended.

And then you get the messiah complex answers. "UBI will fix it all". "Capitalism is over, time for endless redistribution". "Singularity soon". "Magical free hand will fix it somehow". "Technology.. something or other. Magic!"

I want you to step out of your economics textbook's "world" and into the real one. You know damn well how these things work when they are actually applied. Only a handful of specialized jobs will be created leaving hundreds of thousands still out of work. Rent is never going to go down only up.

>Fed hikes interest rates every quarter
>Just in time for the beginning of Trump's term
>zombie retail giants who barely got by with low rates by continuously rolling over their debt can't roll it over again due to higher interest payments
>zombie retail giants give up, finally

This should have happened at least two or three years ago. The Fed kept "extend and pretend" going until Obama left office. There isn't a reason for the Fed to be hiking rates every quarter; rate hikes should have been spread out over the past four years.

A lot of the times malls die when they're home to niggers and other undesirables. There's two malls near me, one is slightly upscale and the other is a traditional mall. The surrounding population is mostly white. There's another one about 15 miles south and it's almost exclusively niggers. The two up north are flourishing while the one down south is falling apart, they haven't even painted the damn place in what looks like decades.

No, the reason is online shopping is more convenient, and malls don't have any interesting stores anymore. Go into any random mall and every single store is either high-end clothing or clothing for teenagers, with maybe the occasional Gamestop. If you're not interested in the latest retarded seasonal fashion items then there's literally no reason to visit a mall anymore.

It's qualitatively different much like a calculator and a modern supercomputer are technically similar, have the same origin, but the consequences of each is vastly different.

They all had over 20 years to recognize that online retail was the future and adapt to it.
They all had plenty of time to launch first class, competitive online stores.
Instead they buried their heads in the sand and pretended people would want to go and deal with their shitty employees and be around their other shitty customers instead of shopping from the comfort of their own homes.
Now 90% of everything I buy aside from food comes from an online retailer that started out selling nothing but books and turned itself into an empire by aggressively capitalizing on the emerging online retail market.

GameStop has no one to blame but themselves. They have profited year after year, but they pay employees less and less, give them less and less hours, and expect them to do twice the work. I've been there for a decade. The higher ups see the writing on the wall that is downloadable content only ala Steam, but instead of cutting their own multi-million salaries, they cut everyone else down while they get raise after raise after raise. It's unethical capitalism at its worst, and while I'm sad many wage slaves will lose their jobs, I hope the day of the rope sees the higher ups strung up.

It goes without saying they're very left leaning and absolutely will higher a minority/female with no experience over someone with actual retail background.

I have a primary job; I just like working there part time on the weekends for the discount and for talking with passionate customers. I basically tell off my DM every chance I see/talk to (((her))), but because I do my job well and have like a 95% customer survey report background for the past 10 years, she can't fire me without looking like a total bitch. For the record, she's not as bad as some of those above her, but she's very typical within the company; doesn't like games, men, nor gamers.

>I'm not trying to start an argument or even discuss this with you.

Fair enough, I enjoy a non-shitpost discussion though which is not really what this place is built for sadly.

>I just want you to consider the fact that Trump, The Republicans, The Democrats, The Fiance Industry, and The Banking Cartels are lying to you.

I'm a cynical enough dude to where I assume everyone is lying and I just pick the people that align the most with my own self interest. This is easy in the case of Trump vs. Dems because the only thing Dems are selling with any coherency is "blame whitey" For every 1 neonazi here there are 10 bluepilled MSM idiots out there chanting their own doom. That's just the social side though.

>Profit is life and life is profit. Nationalism and the wetdreams it provides the proles are dead on arrival.

>Just consider that. I know it seems hopeless, but consider that everyone is lying to you and you know they are lying to you.

>This may be the first step to the true red pill. But, don't take it from me. I'd rather you watch it happen to your society and the world at large.

>Carrier for instance...

On the economic side sure Trump gets shell gamed by Carrier a bit, that doesn't mean his overall trajectory isn't the right solution for now. Other industries are going to take advantage of a less regulated america. He had bankruptcies, he has an army of bluepills against him, he gets back up and does it again the next day. That's fucking American as hell.

The real danger is we end up in a smog pit like China where we have industry back but our culture is ruined. I think America is better than to let that happen though.

You're selling a blackpill to me and calling it red. Same as the Dems because they are not resilient enough to think America can fix anything itself and want big daddy government or big daddy magical global coalition to fix everything. I think nationalism can bulwark our culture against a tide of stupidity out there.

I grew up in the town where the first Kmart opened. That store just shut down a few months ago...but it should have been shut own decades ago. The place was nasty and dirty and has been for years.

>Be me a couple years ago, sick with the flu.
>Kmart was the closest store that carried flu medicine. It was morning and the store had been open about a half hour.
>Go there, get the medicine from the shelf and try to pay.
>NOT A SINGLE REGISTER WAS OPEN!
>Eventually found a crowd of people in the back of the store around the electronics register...because it was the only register open.

Kmart operates with cash on hand to buy goods for the store, rather than using credit/debt like Target, Walmart is able to cut exclusive deals on the account of the volume they do, and then Walmart makes razor thin profit margins that only work because of the volume they sell. Most stores can't do that.

The chain I worked for went out of business last year. It was primarily a video store, but also focused on games, music, and books. It sold a lot of similar crap to what Gamestop and Barnes & Noble are pushing the last couple years. It is a buffer. The primary products of books and games are no longer selling like they used to. Books is mainly because of cheaper availability online. Games because of internet downloads and saturation. Games are released at such a snail's pace that it is hard to make money off of them forever. Even with the whole used games system. Problem is that random merch isn't going to work anymore. A decade ago it would do fine. People were more impulsive and would pick up strange bobbleheads or board games. Now they see that shit all the time on Amazon. It no longer has that appeal of being unusual or unique. The impulse to buy it is gone because you have seen it online and can get it anytime.
So many retailers will be dead soon.

Easiest way is to keep a close eye on newer coins, mine them very early, and then exchange them for older, more stable coins. If they grow big, you'll lose profits, but it's far more secure to let other people worry about the risk and you focus on the ones that are less likely to go belly up. Of course, crypto's in general aren't stable, so don't go in thinking you'll become a billionare, be ready to wait things out, and make sure to always be slowly taking out real money from your holdings as you do this to make sure your wealth isn't all digitial.

What is with this meme? It's funny, and it makes me smile every time.

No, the STEM industry is being flooded through panic and problem avoidance. The problem isn't the fact that jobs are disappearing. No, the problem is that technological advancement is now preparing us for an economic and social transition. It's a transition that few if any governments, local municipalities, or individuals are preparing for; in my opinion, that's insanity.

Our entire paradigm is about to shift, and no one will acknowledge the change because the alternative is simply unimaginable due to a lack of imagination. This entire situation reminds me of the USSR in the early 1980s. Everyone knew that the system was fraudulent and falling apart, but everyone played along because any alternative seemed impossible. Same here.

I don't know, anon, do what makes you happy. Pick up a trade, go to med school, become a lawyer, or get an office job. Do what makes sense for your passion, interests, and monetary success. Because, in 15-20 years, the capitalist system falls.

What rises is something neo-Feudal or automated socialist.

It's a coin toss. Until then, use your head and pick something that takes into consideration passion and earning capacity within your desired geographic region.

>because if you aren't referring to automation in terms of AI, the one new thing in the block, then you are referring to the processes that have happened before

No, these processes haven't happened before. They're qualitatively different. The difference between a calculator and a supercomputer. It's ones and zeros but the use of both differ.

You don't seem to grasp that the consequences start way before any AI discussion. We're just talking about the ever increasing automation and simplification that's ongoing, but clearly hitting a tipping point.

If you have a higher end job you should be seeing this in person. People think it's about replacing a doctor with an android to treat you, but it's actually about making one doctor do the work of 10 or 50 current doctors. That is a huge net loss of needed work, and thus a massive cut to "high tier" jobs thought to be safe.

Lawyers, accountants, all kinds of medical specialities, they're warning us about this right now, because they can see it happening. And it hasn't really begun. But it's inevitable the way things are set up, and suddenly a class of people thought to have golden tickets in an increasingly scarce job market are not just without work, they're in massive debt too, plus having wasted 5, 10 or even 15 years of their lives just to qualify for their job.

> which resulted in an explosion of not only wealth

Wages have been stagnant adjusted for inflation since the 1970s for all but the top 1% of earners. Amid rising living costs. Everyone is getting poorer, but for the most wealthy.

The wealth gap grows every year and leaves most people in the dust, but your next move is to say it's okay because "the poor have iPhones now". And if you do, you've just cemented that you know absolutely nothing about economics.

> But hey, I am sure I am not the one prepared for this discussion.

Yes you seem really fucking unprepared.

Less, of course, but that isn't the point. One point is that bank tellers still exist. My other point was that the technological revolution has created more jobs than it has destroyed.
I do two things. I'm a writer and I buy storage lockers and sell the contents online. I enjoy them both. I don't fear AI writing books, but people may read less books in the future. I'll deal with it as it comes. ebay and Craigslist created my other job, which I could do without them, but would have to sit in a junk store keeping niggers from stealing everything. Again, this is a bunch of fear mongering that has been around since the industrial revolution, at least.

That's hard to do when Pajeet and Shaniqua are put ahead of me every time in my field.

>Take your resume, change the name only to Rajiv or a nigger name like LaQuanda

>No, these processes haven't happened before. They're qualitatively different. The difference between a calculator and a supercomputer. It's ones and zeros but the use of both differ.
Describe the process you believe to be so different to previous cases of machines replacing human labour, does freeing labour to engage in other activities of more productive value.

And you don't seem to grasp that the matter isn't strong AI, you idiot, but the very systems you claim aren't AI aiding to help doctors and lawyers automate work which would have previously required a clerk, a nurse, and others to do. We aren't speaking singularity here with a superintelligence, we are talking about something as simple as Watson (which is the tech you are referring to without actually understanding it).

There's nothing fundamentally different from this round of replacements than any other previous rounds of replacements, and your exact same words were uttered in regards to the loom, the steam engine, the calculator, the computer, and many others. Every time the prediction replacing people so that they could do the job more efficiently with a machine would result in large unemployment it has never panned out. I care not for the 99 farmers who need not toil anymore.

So, again, describe your position in a way changing the words with "loom" and "labourer" won't be equally applicable.

Pro-tip: stop using the calculator-supercomputer comparison because it makes you look like an ignorant retard, specially if you think the supercomputer replaced a lot of people in any significant fashion.

And don't forget the great American companies also destroyed that were not retailers: Bell Labs, Kodak, Polaroid, Bordon Co., PaineWebber, Pan Am, Standard Oil, Bethlehem Steele, etc.

Everything those stores and companies used to represent will be held by a few of (((them))). For example, Amazon. As these distinctly American retailers shut down, Amazon takes over.

Also, this patently false. You wouln't go back to living in the 70's for a second, nor would you prefer to earn the wages they earned. Why? Because not only have real wages grown, the technological advances of our age have reduced the effective price of everything not regulated by government.

maybe now since it is being purposely destroyed, but back in the day they were great. In the 1960s and 1970s they sent out their huge Christmas catalog, like Sears did. You could get anything there. My grandparents bought wonderful curtains and drapes through JCPenney's catalogs. I don't care about nostalgia, I care about facts. and the fact is that if I went to that eldery person's apartment and took every luxury they couldn't afford in the 70's, they would be extremely pissed as they would find themselves with a single tv, a fridge half the size, a most less efficient car, and no proper medicine to keep their drug-addled bodies continuing.

This isn't a matter of opinion, this is a matter of what can be measured, and unless you can show otherwise, the average american family can now afford many more things than they could in the 70's, and astromonically more than they could in the 20's.

I shopped at all of them until they closed. I even worked at Dayton's. Sears closed here about four years ago, bought my vacuum cleaner from them right before they closed. There is no place else to shop. Now it is Walmart. Crap made in China that falls apart. Used to be able to competely trust Craftsmen and Kenmore from Sears ("Solid as Sears"), until Sears was taken over and the moved those brands to be made in China. The quality died and the brand was ruined.

Grew up going to Woolworths. So, your comment is wrong. I shopped at all the places I listed until they closed. Sad days.

Owned Kodak and Polaroid cameras growing up. Have wonderful memories of flying Pan Am. Heard amazing stories of the brains that worked at Bell Labs.

Face it, as each of these amazing American companies die, there is no replacement. Just cheap China crap from Walmart or Ikea or Amazon.

3 or 4 might seem like fuck all but these are places that do like $150+ million a year in sales each...in their early years without a membership base. Costco basically prints money...and then gives swathes of it to the workers.

there isn't. it's mostly used in weird niches like high frequency trading firms for alg dev and rapid prototyping
i use it for every project i have that isn't bound to a specific language or speed requirement

c++ is mostly dead except in very specific applications like games because machines have gotten fast enough that the speed optimizations aren't worth all the memory management shenanigans in the codebase
i now write a lot of backend code like microservices and the like with Go because it's relatively fast and is built for concurrency, compiles natively and is garbage collected for lazy and quick coding

Not by any measure or account. Even accounting for inflation, the average american family had less wealth than one today, specially because houses, where most of the wealth of 70's family was located, were worth far less.

>and could support a family on one income
You still can do that outside of any leftist hellhole, which points to an issue of policy, not salaries.

>just because we have flat screen TVs now and iphones it doesnt mean a single thing when people have to work harder for less pay and cant afford to move out or support children
Work harder? Americans are working less hours than ever, and the compensation, even when adjusted for inflation, is higher. The issue, again, is one of increased cost due to regulations and not one of losing purchasing power. It's like you don't understand the demographic forces pushing poverty in today's age and how little it has to do with labour conditions (aka, single motherhood and lower white populations).

Yes, they did. Up until, I think, the 1990s. Remember, China is a communist country, and therefore an enemy to America. Nixon opened up China to America and I think by the 1990s is when American companies started to go there. But up until then, yes, most everything was made in America. That is how America became great with a huge, successful Middle Class.

It's going to be a different type of crisis in Europe. They don't have as much retail space per person and the stores are usually smaller. A big problem in American retail is that we have more giant stores. When a Kmart or Sears goes out of business it's really hard to reuse that space. By comparison, if a small shop goes out of business it's comparatively easy to get a new tenant because there are lots of different types businesses that can use the space.

Figuring out what to do with leftover big box stores is going to be a huge challenge. I guess they could be used as call centers or warehouses, but it's going to be a rough transformation.

Why does no one understand what will happen when automation hits the magic threshold? It's simple, the starving masses will stimulate the economy via the broken window theory. They will also destroy all the technology that steals jobs and livelihoods. They will be seen as an existential threat to society and will be removed. even the amazon engineering dept is brutal
every engineer burns out in about 2-3 years
they've continually tried to hire me for the past couple years and i never respond to their inquiries
jeff bezos makes it plainly clear and says so that you don't come to work there for work/life balance
the company is very open about this which i credit them for

>a lot of people lets say niggers for example are low IQ and will never ever be able to compete in these fields
can a nigger learn to paint? custom car painting is fat cash.
>>
>>131359622
So how does someone teach without any knowledge of the field they are teaching or without any knowledge of teaching?

Only person delusional is you. Median net worth is at 82k, so this:
>americans are the most poor they have ever been if you look at statistics theyre all in debt and have almost no disposable income after paying their bills
Is just out right wrong. Keep in mind the net worth in the 70's was between 50-60k in adjusted dollars.

While logical fallacies are a good shorthand, they aren't arguments. Your argument is that we have somehow reach a magical number which is impossible for people to survive in without issue. This is the same argument used by people just 60 years ago when there was only 2 billion people, and it was the same one 100 years ago when we were barely a billion, and so on and so forth. The argument we are reaching some overpopulation dystopia have never been correct because they all make the wrong assumption the extra population could only possibly be a burden, when this has never been the case.

go was written by one of the guys that invented C and also Rob Pike who is a big deal and it was running a large amount of google's backend systems before it was even released as stable

>so you dont care that these people are going to suffer all because you already got yours and youre fine and you want capitalism to stay
exactly. I'm a high school grad with a C- average, no college and I am fully 100% retired at 49. Go ahead and say that i was lucky because of the job I had at 18.. that job is hiring RIGHT NOW for anyone who applies. Millenials will not apply for a job that requires hard work though. So I have no empathy for them at all.

they learn then they teach, whats hard about that? most of them finished high school obviously.

most kids here rarely ever get 1 on 1 help which is desperately needed for many of them.

tons of classes are overfilled thanks to illegals using that shit for free.

there are also tons of other jobs they can do, you severely underestimate how many times anything needs to be cleaned.

Alll of this DERP retail is dead is overblown by media and Wall Street to juice tech stocks like Amazon.

Newsflash people aren't going to buy their clothes on Amazon even with their new "wardrobe" gimmick. People like going to the store and trying on their clothes. People like going to the store and selecting their fruit, their meat, their vegatbles etc.

Every department store I've been to this summer was crowded as fuck.

Both Macy's and Kroger are extremely oversold. Buy this week, hold to November. You're welcome.
