Well now, isn't the Pope held to be infallible in all matters of doctrine? Isn't the Pope held to be the Successor of the Apostles? Isn't that literally one of his titles - Successor Apostolorum? Isn't the Pope also *literally* the vicar of Christ and God's vicegerent on Earth? Doesn't the Decretum Gratiani establish that the Pope *IS* God on Earth and that, as such, he can bind God in Heaven? I mean, I'm fairly certain that Cardinal Henricus Hostiensis established this as theological and doctrinal fact in the 15th century and it continues to be a foundational element of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
