Shorter barrels are taxed heavily and have extra checks thanks to the manlet run atf who also thinks airsoft can be turned into fully automatic rifles. Also anyone who falls into the "bolt guns & hunting only" thing should be lined up and shot as traitors. Despite not having a chance vs modern military the threat of armed citizens is still there.

Home Defense against criminals

5.56mm ammunition has a hard time breaking through multiple walls and its twice as effective at stopping someone (than standard handgun ammunition)

Also with 30 rounds you dont have to worry about running out. You dont have to use all 30, but more or less it means it will always work when you pull the trigger.

It only fires 1 bullet at a time in case you were wondering. Only military versions shoot like a machinegun (and we dont have those).

Nobody is fighting Open Warfare on US soil. There's way too much real estate (we're the size of china) and the crumbling infrastructure wont allow anything heavier than MRAPs to move around.

And the air force will be completely compromised and cut off from their fuel supplies. So Drones wont be a thing. Maybe an occasional B-52 bombing run.

Ruger. Smith and Wesson. Clearly you're not going to get the best of the best for sub $500 but there have been endless deals on M&P Sports and Ruger AR 556s in the last few months for $400-500, and those are both quality enough for an entry level gun.

>>
>>129642117
Its good for varmint shooting - Coyotes and Foxes, and pic related.

Also this assertion is untrue because I know a guy who can take down Deer with a .22LR. He uses a chiseled hollowpoint and conducts a lungshot, the deer runs about 100 yd and falls over.

Using a Vmax .223 should do the same damage and probably produce an exit wound and impale both lungs.

> hunting with an AR
Depends on where you live but in Illinois for example you cant really hunt anything with it legally because calibers are restricted for hunting. Pretty much comes down to either .22LR, or .44MAG, or Shotguns.

If Anyone is left who would fire on civilians, they would strap them in and send them off.

Somebody would be stupid enough to keep doing it, or think they'd get away with saying they slept in the barracks the whole time.

The high rate of desertion in the military during a civil war (about 80-90%) means we'd only have a standing army of about 200,000 soldiers willing to shoot and bomb grandma

You dont want to use buckshot for home defense. At least not #00

Get either #1 Buck or #4 buck - the pellets are all either .22 caliber or .25 caliber in size so they leave reasonable holes...

But they leave SO MANY more of those holes that its alot better than the larger stuff. And they're less likely to go through more than one wall in the home.

You can score new 590 tactical for $300ish if you catch a good sale. 590A1s for probably 350-400 on good sales. If you're paying $300-400 for a used 500 you're overpaying. You can get brand new ones for the low end of that or cheaper if you find the right sale and have somewhere to do FFL transfers for a reasonable price.
I do agree that a 500 or 590 is a good choice though. If you need cheaper Mavericks can be had for low $200s.

The best part is that the parts market is the best it's ever been. There are so many options to build an incredible quality AR15 that fits your needs. When the assault weapons ban expires in 2004, there were only a few options for after market parts. 16 years of constant combat and development has created literally thousands of high quality parts from reputable manufacturers.

the idea is to have a rifle and pistol that shoot the same ammunition - and have that ammunition rather effective and flat shooting for the rifle

Because now you dont have to carry two different kinds of ammo, just one. You only have to buy one kind of ammo (maybe some .223 for the standard upper you'd have laying around).

no its not. in america 16" barrel is the shortest you can legally have it in all 50 states without a special process of paperwork and fees. anything less than 16" is considered NFA and requires a trust, chief of police sign off, or some other exemption and $200 in taxes and can not be transferred to someone else unless they have completed the same process. and there are a handful of states (like california) that ban them completely and allow no NFA items

thats the thing I wish they were more available, its kinda a specialty thing right now

If it had a little more firepower (and I think the "hot" rounds do) it would be perfectly viable as a full on combat/defense round. About as strong as a .30 carbine would do it.

It falls short of that, kinda like a weak .357, but its got the velocity and penetration.

Fact is unlike other PCCs you can probably crank up to 200 meters out of it. Not with the pistol obviously (sight radius is too small) but with a carbine...

There are better options than bolt action for any non-long range scenario where you are shooting people. There is no argument to be made where a bolt gun is a better option than a semi auto for a home defense scenario. Will it work to shoot someone? Yeah, but its not ideal for that scenario. Suppressors literally do nothing wrong. Gunfire sound is reduced to about 130 or 140db in most cases

thats pretty fucking loud, it just has less chance of damaging the shooter's hearing.

In the united states weapons are supposed to be cheaper. These TT-33s are like $300 maximum, and that AR conversion im not sure about but it cant be too expensive (maybe 1.5K all said and done).

Also it uses PPSH magazines so thats 35 rounds, or the drums, or a really long 60 rounder mag.

I wish they had larger mags for TT-33 but honestly a pistol is a last resort so a few 8 rounders for it ought to do fine.

You know the nifty thing they discovered is casualty rates from weapons usually follow a fixed proportion.

With Guns you normally get 30% dead out of the total who are attacked.

But with Knives and Swords you get 50% fatalities.

Knives and Swords are alot deadlier than firearms trust me. When you get up close and personal you can really mess someone up, a neck slash is very hard to treat.

And if common people have guns, when some thug tries to rape you or rob you - you pull out the gun and shoot them. Crime prevented.

> and if people can do this, it makes crime alot riskier... they'll think twice before considering it

I don't think you understand, or fail to care, that making defending yourself, and training to do so(i.e. Ammunition sales or gun sales), prohibitively expensive, violates the 2A directly, and in original concept. Also I believe scotus has already set precedence that Ammo=arms just as much as guns themselves. It doesn't matter what the ATF does. It'll never happen.

Sorry you feel that way bud, but your job and the power you wield comes at a price. It is a position of humility. Its a dangerous job, it is civil service.

> you serve us

If you're upset that its dangerous, you may need to get another job in a safer line of work. Maybe as a security guard at a mall.

Im serious, if you cant stand the heat its time to get out of the kitchen.

And as a cop I think you would understand the meaning of this phraise:

"when the police are only minutes away... and seconds count..."

Citizens need more protection than just the consequences that the law (may or may not) be able to impose on someone for their wrongs. They need the ability to defend themselves too. Putting someone in jail for killing you doesn't do any good if you're dead.

if you gotta fight full on battle then you're probably gonna have to retreat by the time the gun needs cleaned anyway - and it could be cleaned in less than a minute if you only wanted to half ass it.

AR for sub $500 is pretty good. I paid $525 for a Diamondback DB-15 (pic related) at a gun show. It has not misfired or jammed once after cycling over 1200 rounds through it over three sessions. It even shoots that cheapo steel case without any problems. Hell, I got a $20 red dot on amazon and I fucking LOVE it. This is a good time for gun buyers. If only ammo prices would go back down.

.223 and 5.56 have the same outer dimensions but 5.56 is a "hotter" round. All 5.56 ARs can shoot .223, but not all .223 ARs can shoot 5.56. if you shoot 5.56 in an AR not designed for it, you will destroy it eventually.

dimensions are the same, it is a specification of the ammo. the difference is the chamber. 5.56/nato is the military load, .223 the civilian load, IIRC the pressure difference is ~5000psi?. .223 wylde marked barrel will shoot either 5.56 or .223remington, 5.56mm marked barrel will shoot either round as well, .223remington or just .223 by itself you should not shoot the 5.56 round. just for safety
