I'd wager 80% of readers don't get past the headline. Another 15% don't go further than the first paragraph or two. And only the last 5% actually read the entire article.

Which means you don't have room to explain anything. Going, "This is just like harry potter" takes much less room than a convincing argument, refutation, whatever. The lack of details also makes it more convincing for the reader because they fill in the reasons for how/why it is just like that one time in harry potter.
