>US in talks with Saudi Arabia over arms sales worth tens of billions – report
Saudi Arabia is set to be the first stop on President Donald Trump’s maiden foreign trip since taking the office.
Sources told Reuters the arms package includes a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system from Lockheed Martin, similar to the one being made operational in South Korea, which costs around $1 billion.
The countries have also been negotiating over a C2BMC software system and a package of satellite capabilities, also provided by Lockheed. The Bradley Fighting Vehicle and M109 artillery vehicle manufactured by BAE Systems PLC could also be included in the package, sources told Reuters.
There are reportedly more than $1 billion worth of munitions, including armor-piercing Penetrator Warheads and Paveway laser-guided bombs made by the Raytheon Co.
The deal could also contain contracts that have been under discussion for years but was never finalized. One of the newly negotiated contracts was previously approved by the State Department in 2015, and includes four multi-mission surface combat ships costing $11.5 billion.
If the deal is sealed, it would be the first time the US has sold a new small surface warship to a foreign country in decades.
>The US has been the main supplier of military supplies to Saudi Arabia and provides maintenance and training to Saudi security forces.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:00 P.M.) – The Syrian Air Force (SYAAF) carried out several airstrikes in the eastern countryside of the Homs Governorate today, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIL) positions near the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur).
Syrian jets began the day by taking off from the Shay’rat Airbase in east Homs; they would make their way to the ISIL-held territory in the province, where they would launch a powerful attack.
According to a military source in Homs, the Syrian Air Force destroyed an Islamic State (ISIL) weapons depot near the small town of Al-Habra in east Homs.
The weapons depot held a large supply of rockets and ammunition that the Islamic State used to resupply their front-lines in east Homs.
The air force would then turn their attention to the Al-Sha’er front, where they carried out more than a dozen airstrikes on the Islamic State’s positions in this mountainous region.

So apparently the 'safe zones' in Syria are:
>Idlib Governorate in northern Syria
>Al-Rastan Plain in central Syria
>East Ghouta region of rural Damascus
>Dara’a and Al-Quneitra governorates of southern Syria
Why the hell do these 'safe zones' cover the exact same territory the moderate beheaders control? Who the hell came up with the idea to call the areas controlled by HTS safe zones?
Safe zones are a moronic idea in a civil war like this, but I could understand if they chose a few areas far from the front lines to designate as them. Instead we get the decision that areas controlled by the rebels are somehow 'safe'.

Life is amazing here for me. Married, but have friends who are dating many girls. All the ugly/fat ones can easily get a decent filipino girlfriend. There are also lots and lots of prostitutes.
Booze is expensive. 10$ is normal for a bottled beer at restaurants/bars, but I drink more here than I've ever done. No drugs here at all.
Labor is cheap so I don't have to do any chores when I'm off work. Everyone delivers so I don't have to go for groceries/food if I don't want to.

>>124314421
who is she? i keep seeing her in /sg/ but never bother to ask who she is
>>124320651
Yes, but you can't just go East.
Doing that (like in the maroon) will mean you have to spread out your already limited resources into one snakey salient. This opens up your entire frontline to multiple ISIS offensives at any point to pinch it, and cut off your supplies. Your frontline is so extended, effectively defending it is near impossible.
What you should look to do instead, is close up areas like in the red. Not only does this allow you to advance with a more uniform frontline which is easier to defend. Straightening it up like this actually frees up a ton of resources since you have less "contours" to fully guard.
Similar to when the Germans set up the Hindenburg line, with a big offensive planned with the freed up manpower.
>>124332826

All the local people I have met have been nice people, but they're very private about their personal life and at the same time very hospitable if you visit them or go out with them.
They're doing a lot to prevent slavery and it's not allowed to keep employees passports anymore for instance. I am free to leave when I want and go whereever I want.
The construction workers usually live in labor camps and are rarely seen inside the city except for the construction sites.

moderates about to get btfo
>>124334261
I can see some of the more moderate """moderates""" itching for a reconciliation in wake of these talks.
It's a peace plan that works best for Assad in my opinion:
>Can still fight ISIS, actually can devote more troops to fighting ISIS
>Restore law to many areas
>Stop fighting in quite a few fronts
>These are guaranteed to remain quiet with Turkish presence
>The only people who could use this peace to build up forces for an attack, aren't included in the ceasefire in the first place
>Paves way for reconciliation of certain, albeit smaller rebel groups
>Looks good diplomatically
>Keeps Israel and America out of Syrian skies
>Guarantors on both sides mean this ceasefire is less likely to breakdown as both sides claim the other broke it
>Meanwhile rebels are infighting

Cutting off NSA via the Damascus-Iraq highway or T2-T3 road isn't possible really, the roads are too long to secure.

It's not as easy as that, it has been decently defended, and pockets like this aren't necessarily simple affairs like you'd expect.
They can't take it now though because as of the agreement, they are to be evacuated and allowed safe travel to other government areas.
>>124338126
the people inside are holed up, fortified and fight to the death, thats not an easy fight
you can see that similarily, Syrian gov waited with attempting to take pockets until conditions were right
also often theres money involved in smuggling stuff into desperate besieged towns
>>124338126
They tried at one point but it is well fortified and in defendible position, plus it is like a hostage: If the rebels commit a massacre there, the rebel pockets will also suffer more and vica versa.

Poo burn!
>>124355767
So when you say that do you mean that "the alternative" would be basically the same in Saudi Arabia, and Syria?
This train of thought definitely makes some sense
So, the way I see it, since the offensive has begun with the clearing out of E. Salamiyah (as they should) instead of shooting for DeZ, this is my updated map of the (potential) DeZ plan.
>1: Clear out the E. Salamiyah front by attacking from the south and southeast, then NDF near Ithriya and Sheikh Hilal join in from the north/northwest.
>2N: Establish Buffer Zone around Palmyra by seizing the desert roads to the south of Ithriya and north of Palmyra, then seizing the mountains north of Palmyra.
>2S: Seize the Talila area to the southeast of Palmyra, seize the T3 Station and Airport, and establish outposts on the desert roads in case NSyA chimps out (unlikely).
3A: Advance from 3 fronts towards Sukhnah, starting by seizing Arak to engage ISIS and make them fight there, then moving from the west and south towards Sukhnah in a pincer move, hopefully cutting off ISIS and forcing them to surrender or killing them.
>3B: After clearing out Sukhnah and the road behind it, move in two directions, one unit to the north towards Al-Kadir and establishing a buffer zone in the north, then moving towards Qasr Sharqi and linking up with the main attacking force going east. By this point, they have reached the DeZ Gov. Border.
>Fin: Seize Kabajeb, then move on both roads to establish a buffer zone. Seize Shulah, same as before. Finally, link up with pocket, and break siege on airport. Then the relief force could move to establish a buffer zone to the northwest and southeast of DeZ before clearing out the city itself.
>Optional: Clear out the Busayri crossroads area by seizing the mountains around it before taking the crossroads, keeping the NSyA from linking up with the rebels in Qalamoun.
