Lucky as fuck op. Go take some good pics. All I find are AE1's kek
>>
Nice "antique" find m8. Didn't know they counted plastic tat as antique already.
>>
>>2980753
Yeah I dunno. It's all separate vendors in a warehouse. So technically it's up to the vendor what's 'vintage'
>>
>>2980746
>lucky as fuck

Huh? It's a simple XA2. Not even the lusted-after XA (1).
He'd be lucky if there was a GR1v sitting in the bin/shelf for $15 or something.. but an XA2? Hell naw, m8.
>>
>>2980753
>yfw the XA is almost 40 years old
>>
>He doesn't know the difference between the XA models

You paid exactly what it was worth chum.
>>
>>2980799
You sound fun at parties.

Although it's actually a shame you never get invited to any.
>>
>>2980800
Are you still in high school?
>>
Congrats OP! All I've found so far is zoom compacts, APS shit zoom compacts, focus free hunks of plastic and overpriced "vintage" FSU cameras.

I've bought a Mju II zoom for €3,5 and a roll of Hp5 (not plus) expired in the 80's. I still visit thrift stores and flea markets occasionally hoping I'll find something cool though.
>>
>>2980800
why would anyone talk about cameras at a party?

>WHY WOULD YOU TALK ABOUT COMMON INTERESTS WITH PEOPLE AT A PARTY
what the fuck else would you be doing?
>>
>>2980799
He paid what it should be worth, but they go for far more than that. Hell the flash alone can bring as much as the camera.
My XA should be worth $50 maximum, but they go for well over $100. He can easily get $40 for that.
>>
Got an OM2n with a 50 1.4 Zuiko for £35 recently. They said the meter was broken but they just weren't testing it with silver oxides.
>>
>>2980986
>He paid what it should be worth,
What it should be worth is the same as other fixed length compacts. The only reason they go for more is internet hype, blogposts, hipsters and flickr cirlejerking.
>>
>>2980945
I dont know. I never get invited.

Some finds of the past few months:
Olympus XA: $?? Found it at a Goodwill Surplus store, where they empty everything into bins and you rummage through it like scavenging a landfill. Probably paid $10-15 for it and whatever else I picked out, including a Mju(notII) and Lomokino.

Plain black Holga 120CFN: $2 appears to work, but need to clean the battery terminals.

Gaudy ass Holga 120CFN (colored like pic): $4 Shutter is busted, but had a roll of Ilford in it. The camera back was on upside down,so hopefully the film isn't ruined, and the paper backing was enough to protect the 5 or so shots that appear to have been taken.

Mju II: $4
Holga 135BC $4

Olympus A11 flash: free from a camera swap meet this weekend. Doesn't appear to be charging up, thus probably why it was on the free table.

Litedome: $4 The white coating on the inside was sticking to itself and came off in areas, but I doubt it'll make much difference. Diffuser looked fine.

My AGFA Isolette I
Friend of mine gave me it a couple years ago.
AFAIK it still works. It doesn't have any light leaks or anything.

I just can't find any 120mm locally.
>>
>>2981371
what are you, some kind of retard? The original XA has a faster lens, full control of the aperture, and a rangefinder manual focus system. It's basically only a P&S but form, not by mechanics.

Sure it's only half a stop, but it's still faster, and you can pick what aperture you want.

I spotted these in the thrift stores recently, either worthwhile?

Canon DS6041 with 18-55 lens, battery, CF card, but no charger $50
I understand this is Canon's first consumer DSLR. I don't have a Canon, (have M43,) but always considered picking up an older one so I can at least get familiar with its operation & icons whenever my friends hand me theirs.

Sony A100 with battery, charger, two 18-70 lenses, and one 75-300 lens, and Sony branded bag. $150
Was originally $300, but apparently has been sitting in the store long enough to go half price. Scanning eBay, looks like the body goes for $100, and the lenses another $100. So seems like a decent buy, assuming all is working.
>>
>>2982265
I can't comment on the Sony but the Canon is nowhere near worth it unless you want it for historical reasons. Otherwise I see those on the goodwill's website often for much cheaper.
>>
>>2981321
Are you fucking dense? I don't understand why the best cameras of their niche cant maintain their value. Automatically assuming a camera is worth $5 because it's a p&s is just stupid. The XA and MJU II were killer cameras when released, winning awards and lots of praise from the industry (along with lots of even higher priced p&s cameras that still command $500+). Dunno why faggots like you lump them into the same plastic trash pile as any odd p&s. They were high technical designs with optics that stand up to today's standards.

>An Olympus OM40 with a shit ton of lenses
>A Praktica LTL with a Meyer Telemogor 400mm f5.5

>>2983381
He can get another lens for cheap, and you don't really need the counter since you can just feel the lever lock up.

Personally I would probably pay $50 and just get the body, but that's me.
>>
>>2983391
>you don't really need the counter since you can just feel the lever lock up
Yep, after I broke the first roll while advancing the lever and learned to feel the film inside the camera.

The lens was free anyways. The only problem is flare and it's still super sharp above F2.8
>muh bokeh at 1.4
>>
>>2983391
If you can't haggle the price down to $30 or $20 for a camera with several broken parts, stop going to antique shops and stick to Ebay. Then again, they depend on cucks like >>2983368 who are willing to pay a complete ripoff price for things because of fancy things written on them.

Salvation Army Store. Also found up two Speedlites for $8 each. Battery terminals need some cleaning, but doesn't look too bad.
Nearly missed them since they were in the showcase in their rather cheap looking cases. I thought they were P&S cameras.

The salvation army in my city in Florida is shit like Goodwill.

Just keep looking. Shops that buy estate stuff have more stuff coming in all the time as old cunts keep dying and their boomer kids just care about getting their junk out of the property so they can sell it to Chinese. I found a Canon FD 2/135 at some ma and pa store, they had no idea what it was worth so I could have had a free bid, but I don't use Canon or have any use for a 135 so I let it pass. It had a stuck aperture but that's not really a big deal to fix. My best find would be this from a few years back:
>buy assorted stuff from an estate shop
>"Here's a freebie for ya, since you bought a lot"
>guy hands me a compact camera
>mint Contax T2

Other end of the country. The Goodwill stores here upped the price of books maybe a year or two ago. used to be paperbacks for a buck, hardbacks for $3 (or maybe 2, I forget.) Now it's based on the original price of the book, so almost nothing is a buck anymore, and also means they never goes on sale since they have no colored tags.

>What's the shutter count on your 1D?
Unless there's some secret code to lock it, the jog dial doesn't appear to be responding, so I can't navigate the menu. Also discovered crap on the sensor.
I found the name of the previous owner, used to belong to a wedding photographer, so it this probably spent a bit of time on the beach. Wonder if it took an accidental dunk.

Guess I'll be doing some testing this weekend to see how much the sensor crap affects things.

I was given a whole box of photo stuff to sell for 50%.
Sold 2 lenses for $200. Selling this would have brought them about the same $$$ again, so I gave them everything from the first sells and was allowed to keep the Rolleiflex. Came with UV filter, which apparently always covered the lens, and the hood. Works great except for the ground glass being dim, which apparently is normal for this model.

Orlando checking in, our only Salvation Army charges through the roof for everything. Goodwill is much cheaper, but full of people looking to resell on ebay, so rarely find much. Still go as often as I can though.

The goodwill on OBT has shit and they put the good stuff on shopgoodwill, and the smaller thrifts put stuff on eBay.

All of them. And every week.

It's like those photographers you know who take awesome shots. For every photo they show you, there's a dozen or more that suck that they're not showing you.
For every thrift visit here that turned up a Mju, Holga, or Leica, there's dozens that turned up nothing.

Yes or no? I cleaned my nikkor non-ai years ago but I don't have the tools anymore. Should I get it and sell later or repair it?

I'd pass if you already have a film camera. Save that 20 for a better find.

Is buying old cameras to sell overpriced to hipsters considered wrong?

I already have the best SLR ever made. I just thought it was cheap. Here in my shitty country they run for 50-100 bucks easily. I still don't know why Hipsters love them so much.

I can't afford a mamiya 7

any tips for affordable medium format rangefinder style cameras?
>>
>>2985965
Mamiya Super 23. Has rangefinder and shoots 6:9, but is large. Still not as heavy as most other Mamiya MF.
Apart from that, Fuji GS/GA/GW depending on what format you're looking for.

You missed my point. I want a RF style camera because of the size/ease of use/aesthetics. I could use my yashica TLR or a hasselblad style camera but that's not the point.

You want me to go around town streetshooting with a mamiya press? Better buying a graflex 4x5

Makina. They are sub-$1k I think.
>>
>>2986072
>streetshooting
Too bad Leica doesn't built MF I guess.
Seriously, if you want to shoot street get a TLR or some of the Fuji I mentioned. Just don't get the GW GSW etc, as these are massive and probably won't match your desired "aesthetics". If you don't bother about bellows, there's also the CV Bessa II.
If you want a good camera with interchangeable lenses/framelines, interchangeable film backs, leaf shutter and rangefinder, then get that Mamiya Super 23. If Eggleston can shoot with it, it's good enough for you.

Found this yesterday for 1 euro

babbys first leica fuck yeah
>>
>>2986218
It's a nice system, but quite heavy.

Also takes some time to get used to because shutter release is on left side, meaning not being used to focusing with the right hand, and also not the most ergonomic of systems when just holding with 1 hand.
>>
>>2986590
noice
>>
>>2986590
Nice. Is the lens OK? Test it and come back here with samples.
>>
>>2986590
from what I understand Leica minis aren't actually Leicas, they were just made to make some quick cash on the name. Still, for 1€ is a pretty nice camera
>>
>>2985684
Yeah pretty much. Then hitting up estate sales, and auctions too.
I picked up a Nikon FM3, and two lenses. A 50 f/1.4, and the 105 Micro with a flash for $100. The 50 is pristine, and the 105 has a slight scratch on the body. Also came in a hard case. It was at an estate sale, and I hit them on their last day when everything was 50% off. I would have easily paid the $200 though.
>>
>>2985726
Screwing hipsters is always the correct thing to do. Make them pay for their perceived coolness.
>>
>>2986218
It's really nice, but without tripod you have to use the sidegrip, which means you have to release the shutter with your left hand. With a tripod you can use a cable release.

>>2986232
They usually sell for 300-400eur depending on the lenses. The 100mm is quite nice.

>>2986590
Does it work? It's a nice camera. If you keep the shutter button pressed it's also good for silent shooting. The film only advanced when you release the button again.
>>2986631 is right though, an M Leica is something completely different.

That's what i bought recently.

Two Soviet-Russian KMZ Helios 44-2 f2.0 58mm lenses. One in very good condition, the other one is very worn out. I will use the worn out one to experiment with doing a complete service to this kind of lenses, and maybe to play with trying to do some modifications. The lens at the right is a Pentacon Auto MC f1.8 50mm lens.
All lenses are for the old M42 mount. The lens in the middle has an adapter from Kiwi for the Fuji X-mount attached.

Got this for $5, pulled it apart and fixed the previously stuck rangefinder, threw some wd40 in the windy bit inside the lens to free up the mechanism and let me use all of the shutter speeds. Only problem is the film loading mechanism is fucking stupid, it's just a metal clip attached to the take up spool that you're supposed to slip the film into and hope it does pull itself out when you're winding it.

(Expired) packs on eBay. Keep in mind because they're expired, the photos may not develop properly (which is why that's a thing,) and the packs contain a battery which you may have to replace in order to use.

If you want less uncertainty, then look up Impossible Project for newly produced film packs.

Either way, expect to spend a lot.

last week's find at salvation army. $15. Was so fucking stunned I bought it without testing its functionality. I've taken more camera porn photos OF it than I have WITH it, but I put a roll of slide film in there and I hope to use it up this coming weekend. Seems to be in proper working order.

bamboozle'd.
>>
>>2993257
I just spent $140 on ebay for one, don't feel too bad...
>>
>>2993257
My XA2 was $15 at an opshop too. In box with an A11.
Worked fine at the start, but now the shutter has become intermittent.
The button itself works fine, because it will start the self timer without trouble, but the shutter itself just doesn't fire.

It's a shame, because it really is the most compact real camera I've come across yet, and it would be nice to keep it in a skinny's pocket.
>>
>>2993278
I've opened one up. Real simple to see if there's a loose wire that just needs to be resouldered.

I've decided I like my XA2 more than my Stylus epic. Scale focus is awesome, as is manual film winding and how quiet the things is. Pumped I'll be able to make some good $$ selling the Epic.
>>
>>2993320
Yeah, given the intermittent nature you'd assume it's only a dry solder.
And an already broken $15 camera probably wouldn't cause too many tears if I ended up properly fucking it.
Anything that goes sproing I need to be particularly mindful of?
>>
>>2993342
I only opened up the top, bottom, and front plate. Didn't need to go further. Nothing will spring out. Pretty simple stuff.
>>
>>2993351
Cheers m8, if I'm a winner will post.
>>
>>2993257
I think it's because people think they're junk because they have that plasticy build. also salvation army is wildly inconsistent with pricing. It's like they just go on eBay and choose the price of the first thing they find.

Source: Found something without a tag once at an SA, the clerk looked on eBay to find the price.

Best thing I've found was a pentax sp2 that had a 50mm 1.4 super takumar lens with it. Also had a 49mm filter on the lens. Paid $25 CAD for it. Lens was a little yellow but I put it under an ikea lcd lamp for 5 days and it cleared it up.

You can do that with ordinary lamps? I thought you needed UV.
>>
>>2993968
I thought so too, but apparently it works. The lamp is led and has a tiny round head. I put a mirror under the lens to maximize light and left it for almost 5 days. Forgot the name of the ikea lamp but it has a tiny led head with flexible arm on a base. Think the lamp starts with a "J".

read'em and weep fagboys

Is there any real chance I can find working film for this piece of shit? Proprietary film is a sin to this world, the best I could find expired in 2006. How long can Polaroid film usually be expired before it's completely dried up?

Today's haul: Olympus mju and a Fuji tiara zoom for $20.

I've bought 8 p&s cameras this month. Gotta start selling these shits to make some $$

izones can be found quite easily. But I guess it's cool you found in the package.
Unfortunately they don't make the film anymore and what you can find, the developer fluids probably dried up. At least I believe that's what happened with the two packs I've tried so far. Sucks, since it could be a really fun camera.

Found this at an antique store for $72... great condition and I collect vintage cameras and this is going to be my first rollei. He said it still works it in great condition and might pick up some nice black and white film for it and try it out.
At first the price turned me off and I went to other antique stores a bought a junk Minolta srt 101 for just something to have visually, and a brownie movie camera 8mm because I love brownies even though they're essentially valueless.
But the next day I slept on it and went straight after work and bought it.
Was spending this much a mistake? It has its original case box and external flash so I think it might possibly keep its value.

Nikon One Touch Zoom AF and Canon Z135 Caption. Got it with some other stuff from the Goodwill surplus store for $10.

Canon included a half-shot roll of film. Unfortunately when I tried shooting the rest, the film advance seems jammed. I was looking forward to playing with this and applying the captioning feature in unintended ways.

Hey guys, there's a couple of Value Village stores close from where i live in the Montreal/Laval region.

Do you think i could find something interesting at those places? I remember when i was a kid i found a SNES Super Scope from one of them so maybe there's more than 90's clothes in there.

>>
>>3002511
You won't know until you try. Also thrifting isn't a one time affair; it takes multiple visits and persistence to find something worthwhile.
>>
>>3002511
Depends on your local area that's feeding the donations, and how persistent you are. Don't go there tomorrow hoping to find a Leica. Go on a regular basis through the year, and you might find a couple of cool things.
>>
>>3002494
That's worth triple that just for the lens.

Sony Cybershot DSC-W610 with battery, charger, USB cable, and generic case for $6. This'll make a nice, need-to-take-a-snapshot-around-the-house-but-not-pull-out-the-big-camera camera.
And at that price, beats the Cybershot T10 I once found for $5, but had to order a battery & charger for. Though the T10's design is really cool.

I found it in my grandparents house. The left one is polaroid-like instant camera which is called "Moment-1" and the right one is "Lada Lomo" 8mm camera. Moment seems to be somewhat intact and possible to use (but I couldn't find materials for it in my shithole) and Lada is pretty fucked up with broken lens and fungus all over it.

the VV near Namur station is the best in MTL IMO. Wasn't into photography back when i lived in montreal, so can't speak to the camera selection. However it is out of the city a bit so there are a lot less re-sellers that go there and snag up anything nice.

The most important thing to remember is
>menelta = trash
They made a tiny handful of lush SLR bodies and fancy AF macro gear right towards the end that are worth owning, but they are still modern and obviously-expensive-looking enough that nobody's giving them away.
>>
>>2995150
Also, that's an FM3A.
It's expensive because it's the last mechanical camera Nikon designed, and represents the pinnacle of the art. But also it's the best shooting Nikon.
It has the low light Aperture priority metering, it has the 1/4000, it has TTL, it has the mirror lockup, it has the AE Lock, it has the all mechanical shutter if you want.
And it was made this century, which makes it just not as old and fucked as many FM2's
