I feel that if what you want is getting people who like your photography, just go and make your style consistentand start following, liking, commenting those photographers that you like. Hashtags help sometimes.

Anyone having a problem with hashtags recently?

I have noticed that when I post a photo, it appears in the "most recent" section of the hashtags I typed. But after a few seconds, when I return to my hashtags, my photo is no longer there.

It has been completely removed from the "most recent" section of all my hashtags, even the slow hashtags that just have a few images.

I'm not typing any "dead hashtags", I'm using all viable ones. My image just gets deleted from them after a few moments.

Does anyone have any clue as to why this is happening?

Use a bot service.

I used to use Likestagram, but they basically stopped working, and I moved over to a better service called Instagress.

You give it access to you instagram account and tell it locations and hashtags to target. It will like images for you automatically, making it more likely for those people to check out your page and follow you.

It also has a bot commenter, where you feed it as many generic comments as you want, and it will comment on the images with the hashtags you gave it.

Then finally, you can also set it up to follow and unfollow accounts. For example, you can set it to follow 1000 people, then after a while, it will unfollow those people. But those 1000 people might have followed you back.

It works on a subscription basis. So you can spend like $10 and it will constantly like, comment and follow people for a month straight, 24/7. It can go even longer too. I think it will go for an entire year for only $80. Theres also a 3 day free trial.

When I woke up this morning I had 20 new followers and hundreds of likes on my content. I'll usually gain 30 followers per day, which isn't bad at all.

It seems lame, but its a good way to build a real following, especially if you have quality content on your instagram.

You just have to make sure that you're not overdoing it with likes and stuff. Theres a suggested range of how many likes and stuff you should do. You get banned when you stick out, like doing 200 likes/hr

And it cycles 10 follows/10 unfollows. Just for now. The longer you use a service like this, you can "train" instagram to allow your account to act like this and do more. The problems come when you just start off and go crazy with it. Their algorithms can pick that out.

I haven't really thought about shooting for a project/book/any other reason aside from showing people what I've been looking at/doing.

I'm really just trying to get my head around cameras and photography in general as I've only been at it for a couple of months.

I want to do something that appeals to a lot of people, but in a contradicting kind of way, I don't want to have an IG page that looks the same as everyone else with a DSLR.

Aim for hours a little before or after the busiest hours (check the websites that talk about when to post, see if their stats are actually the best time or just when it's really active) so you have less competition but are still around when it's active, and if it isn't that time right now then maybe it is somewhere else in the world and start using their language but I don't think having 20 followers from India will help you at all outside of India except for letting people see a big number on your profile.

Engage with other people beyond a like, comment on their photos. Even if it's just hey that's cool, or nice colors, or shit's mad dope my man, they might go to your profile and check you out and hopefully they'll like what you have.

Browse tags that you post to, maybe the people that post what you post will also like to see what you post and follow you after you like and comment.

Tagging locations might help, don't know for sure that one is murky.

There's plenty of webpages that talk about this sort of thing, you'll learn a lot about it and it's not the most complicated thing, really just requires having things to post and being available to post them.

1: Define what pics you take, what style you have.
2: stay consistent. people like for a good pic, but follow for a good feed that says there's more coming.
3: engage. like, comment. don't be selfish, show other people some love for what they do. You'll probably like people with similar taste. Refer to 1.
4: hashtags. but not stupid hashtags, use relevant ones. Those that can link your style, to people who could be interested in that content. That means, community hashtags. #agameoftones for instance is a really big one, but it's pointless to use it if your style is not in line. And so on. Find the right ones for you. Refer to 1.
5: and don't be passive and wait for others to come for you. look at what others are posting within the hashtags you use. Refer to 3.

I don't know if you want to post pics of your girlfriend or caterpillar macros. But someone might be interested in portraits and would like to see more, or someone else might be into biology and find some interest in those funny spiders. Or do you want to show that you're living the life in Dallas? Whatever it is you choose, choose something. Even if I someone was interested in some of your shots, they're lost in an ocean of noise. we can't see anything unless we follow, and until you accept it. setting your account private is fine if you want to basically only let your friends see your pics, but it's just a massive middle finger to those who don't know you already, so pointless if you want people to even look at your photographs, let alone follow you. Whoops, I usually have it on public, My mistake. I pretty much just use Insta for posting snapshits and seeing what normies are looking at. I never realized that's why it was always asking to accept follows.

I'll trust your recommendation on Crowdfire, since being turned into a camslut for a few hours and having to recover my account through support I'm a bit wary of all the third party login sites.

All fixed now though, account is public and will follow and all that jazz. Like I said, all phone photos, you can kind of tell when I switched phones. Also just bought a Nikon D7100 so I'm hoping to bring and use that on my next trip.

Apparently you missed the part where I said I lost my account and became an instagram slutbot at one point. Considering I've only ever logged into Insta on my phone I really don't know how it got taken. I noticed when I kept getting follow requests and people accepting me following them. Holy fuck boys, what did /p/ turn into?

I used to post my instagram shit on here and i'd get ripped apart. Felt nice to me since there was more to photography than an IG following since I have to live and breath numbers to be able to get paid from this shit.

Before I get more into it I'll throw down my instagram, instagram.com/zacharyleung/

As of right now I have 25,000 followers but in January I had 2,500 followers.

I grew because some of my coworkers/photographers showed me how to be trendy with my photos and I tried to develop my own style out of it. Personally I think that /p/ is more talented than these trends but correct me if I'm wrong.

Instagram likes pretty girls in front of pretty views. Edit with VSCO if you want as well as shoot at dusk and dawn so that you can stop down to expose both your subject and your sky.

Hashtags don't get you much exposure anymore but trying to attract more comments do. Comments from others will cause your photos to show up on their follower's explore page. My friends and I continuously comment on each others pictures and we all gain followers together. Piggybacking in a sense.

Instagrammers like a stylized feed, grain, a reoccurring aesthetic, as well as a theme.

Yeah, but it has the most users. I bet there's a userscript that solves some of those problems though, most websites have stupid shit that needs to be solved clientside these days.

it's a shame because you go to cool places with stellar rainbows but your toning and coloring is awful. where are the shadows? learn some VSCO jeez

Tips:
>don't spam generic hashtags with millions of posts (#photo # cute etc.)
>look for tags within the 250-500k range
>try different languages (if you shoot film, it's quite big in Japan so look up what hashtags people from Japan are using)
>do not use all 30 hashtags possible to not clutter up your picture (aim for 15-20)

I think your last 10-20 shots are really good and they show a consistent style and approach (the ones before were a little bit less consistent and less interesting to look at)

Also might update your bio a bit (maybe what camera you use/where you are based/link to other websites or social media if you have any etc.)
