There are a few reasons. The most impotent one is to create sense of depth in most of my landscape pics you notice that I go low or have something else in front of the lens. The second reason is that the sigma art just looks really good at small apertures, you hardly lose any sharpness and you get a tasty vignette for free.
It's also a tool to distance yourself from the horde of smartphone photographers. Sensor size and optics are one of the few things they can't compete with.

We all knew beforehand that we wouldn't get that many (good) images done. I don't know about the rest, but I personally need wander alone for hours in order to take any images I would be okay with showing others.
We all have a lot of very similar images of the same mountain, river or cat, with just a slight difference in editing and framing. And that's okay.
