I'm OK with this. Instax is cool even if the average instax camera is dogshit.

However... is it an actual silver film, like black and white Polaroids were, or is it a chromogenic black and white thing like XP2+? Because the latter, while also good, is kind of missing the point.

Just one thing. Fender are a company who are almost 100% invested in the music industry, guitars, amplifiers, plectrums, accessories etc.

Fujifilm are a company that is barely in the commercial imaging industry anymore, even less so in the analogue photography industry. So you're completely wrong when you say it's like Fender doing that.

Bitch, I shot plenty of Reala in the day. It can't touch the current version of Portra for grain, sharpness, or color palette. That's not to say it was bad, just that Portra is now better.

tbqh I remember thinking, at the time, that the Kodak Supra line was better in many situations than Reala. Surpa 400 had less grain, better sharpness, and again a better color palette, and scanned beautifully on almost anything. (Shame it was short lived.)

But Astia was fucking great. I loved Astia. Velvia and Provia are magic in some situations and shit in others, but Astia handled everything well.

So what is the best Instax camera (specifications/design/price) as of September 2016? Considering IP film is mostly garbage and packfilm may never come back.

I'm seconding this. Instax prints come out way better than the Instax camera shots, and the Xpro2 is the best camera to pair with a printer, since it can skip the smartphone step.
