I'm looking for a DSLR with an audio input microphone with a wide angle lens or ability to get a wide angle lens.

I'm looking at the price being under $450 refurbished models are ok.

I want to record in 1080p and be able to attach my Rode microphone to it so audio quality is not important just great video with auto focus that isnt' super slow.

I do some lower light shots so i'd like something that will handle low light performance.

Is there anything that comes close to this? Doesn't have to be dslr if the camer has a decent enough microphone or if there is a way I can record quality audio on a separate device
>>
>>2891785
Maybe look into old Sony A7
Fullframe and some (like the s-series) start at 600 bucks)
Fullframe is expensive
Otherwise, the Canon EOS ones are your best shot. Sony alpha6000 sometimes start at 500$ used.

The further down sensor you go, the harder it will be to get wide angle and have decent low-light performance.

For audio: get a Audio recorder. ZoomH1 or ASCAM DR-5 start at 70 bucks used. They have rather good recording on their own microphones. Plugin a decent 3,5mm microphone and they are good enough for almost anything except professional studio work.
>>
>>2891788
Fullframe if i'm assuming that means all the cannon t5/t3/70d etc are full frame then i'd like full frame. No refurbs around black friday will shoot down that low?

Let me correct that!

If you really want Full frame, maybe look into old Sony A7. It's fullframe and some (like the s-series) start at 600 bucks. Generally speaking, fullframe is expensive

Otherwise, the Canon EOS ones are your best shot. The Sony alpha6000 sometimes start at 500$ used. It also has good video capabilities.

The further down sensor you go, the harder it will be to get wide angle and have decent low-light performance.

Stabilization can be done "per hand" as in "just hold it still you fucking noob". Also, Panasonic is starting to introduce stabilized sensors, i think the GX85 has one.
>The EP5 can "only" do 30fps in Full HD, so no 60fps or 4k for you. But good enough for most stuff.

I forgot that I probably would be using a headphone jack. If I ever buy the EP5 how can I go about it not having a headphone jack?

>>How badly do they perform in low light?
>With a normal 3.5 aperture, get ready for mosaic-orgies and noise-a-paloozas above 1600 ISO. Although that also depends on the system and camera.
>But problem solved by getting an old 1.8 or 1.4 lens for cheap and adapt it. Listen to the adapter-meme. It's true.

I have an old Nikkor AI 50mm f1.4 and OM 50mm f1.8. Will they be enough for low light on an EP5? The problem is I thing they are too telephoto for indoor use. I think a 24mm f2 lens will be too much for my budget.

>I dunno much about the camera in specific.
I know it has lots of support because it's been around for quite some time now (in digital camera terms).
>Also, 300$ seems to be a good price if it's not banged up too bad.

>I forgot that I probably would be using a headphone jack. If I ever buy the EP5 how can I go about it not having a headphone jack?

Use an audio recorder for sound.

1.4 or 1.8 will be decent enough in low light. Not stellar, but if you get a fill light in some distance to your subjects you won't notice they are illuminated artificially. Streetlanterns will be enough.

>>

>Use an audio recorder for sound.

Does that mean I will buy a separate audio recorder for sound? How can it properly synchronize with my video? Is it an audio recorder that clips on the hotshoe of the ep5?

>1.4 or 1.8 will be decent enough in low light. Not stellar, but if you get a fill light in some distance to your subjects you won't notice they are illuminated artificially. Streetlanterns will be enough.

Ok I think the built in flash will be enough and for video, will a small video light that attaches on the hotshoe would suffice as well.

With that I hope the 5 axis image stabilization will compensate for my shaky hands.

Seriously it will be like a 100mm lens on FF format. Good luck vlogging on your room unless you have a bedroom that is bigger than the ordinary living room+kitchen.

I don't understand why micro four turds is still being recommended. It's a dying meme. When you factor in the cost of its lenses it probably cost more than an APS-C or FF for video. Not to mention it has a high crop value as I said. Good luck looking for wide angle lenses for it. Old manual ultrawide prime lenses are also hard and costly if found (less than 17mm focal length). Also, using an f/1.4 lens on a turd will turn it into a f/2.8. Zero shallow depth of field and you won't get the "film look" that the bigger sensor cameras have (APS-C or FF).

A Fuji XT-10 is better than any olympus turd for video. Not to mention it has a mic jack.

Back in 2012 everyone on /p/ thought that this camera will end the DSLR and the second coming of man was at hand. But after all this years all the mfturds accomplished was paving the way for the aps-c and ff mirrorless and shitty noise at high iso and low light.

I'm selling my current camera and all of its lenses, so I am essentially starting over from scratch. I am looking for a full-frame camera that can shoot 1080p@60fps.

I've been looking at the Nikon D750 and D810. I've only ever used Canon, so I don't know anything about the difference between the two. Has anyone here used either of these two cameras? Anything I should keep in mind when deciding? Any other full-frame 1080p@60fps cameras I should consider?

Also, I'm a huge fan of Magic Lantern on Canon cameras. Is there anything similar for Nikon? Is it better / worse than ML?

Hello fellow MFT-haters. I too like big sensors. Pic related, it's my camera, which I have taken with my Backup camera, an Alpha Phase one.
I don't know how anyone can shoot on such tiny sensors with such tiny cameras. I mean, what's the point of having a camera if you just gonna run around like a caffeinated hamster and take pictures of everything rather than set your camera up for at least five minutes for the one, perfect shot?
I was recently thinking about jumping to photoplates as well, that way you can really see the finest details, like the grains of sand on the butt of a spider sitting in the flower behind the subject.
Also laughable is how they use lenses meant for other systems. These degenerates just slap FD lenses on their silly adaptable mounts. Lens-systems are meant to kept separate and pure.
But you know what the biggest joke is? All these so called "professionals" using MFT cameras. They think they can make money with that? Sure, they can live off their YT channels and have lots of fun doing their work with cheap cameras, but can they actually live with themselves when they zoom in on their RAW files of contrast charts and see that the lines are blurred by 2px?
I hope they all hang themselves and the entire MFT market collapses. These kinds of people should not be allowed in our hobby!

Sony has done surprisingly well with their mirrorless cameras. Finally got themselves a decent foothold in the industry.

Fuji is making some decent cameras too, even though they are only APS-C.

Speaking of, Olympus recently filled patents for some new mirrorless FF lenses. I wonder if they are starting heir own mount, or will be continuing their partnership with Sony?

Neat camera, a little outdated on hardware as far as state of the art goes. Depends how much money you want to save. Buy a LX100 now for fire sale prices, buy a GX85 and get nearly the same size but with interchangeable lenses and other features, or wait to see what the LX200 brings.

Well the GX line is very expensive, they start new at 1,2k so look further.
Olympus are generally considered "better" for photos amongst the MFT cameras.
the olympus EM series can sometimes go for 550 with kitlens.
The PEN series can go even cheaper

Like the GX85's IBIs? 5 axis like the Oly bodies, only good for about 4 stops, but that's plenty. Also the advantage of good video quality, dual IS, and coming with a good, small, mechanical zoom kit lens for less money than a EM5II.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. You got the 5DS, which like the D810, is a minor update over the 2012 model. The small body pro-market has to be satisfied, so it will come, one way or another.
>>
>>2892419

You could look at the other Fuji models. I hear great things about the X-T10. It is cheaper too. Though you have the same lens issues.

Sony is the only other company that makes a decent APS-C mirrorless. a6000 is around $850 with the kit. a6300 is $1200.

Though for €1000 you could probably get a full frame A7. But fullframe Sony lenses cost a fortune, though most are worth it. They are pumping out lenses though. Something like 7 new designs released so far in 2016.

Ok I will. Actually my other problem is it's tough to find a cheap UWA lens for for MFT sice the crop factor is x2.

I really want to get a MFT or four thirds camera for years now (even back when the olympus four thirds was released). It only became reasonable to buy one recently because it has become cheap.

I have a D7000 which I've been using for years and I'm ready to upgrade to a FX, either a 600 or 610. Right now I have some nice DX lenses as well as some legacy F mounts from the 80s.

Should I sell these DX lenes and switch over to only FX or hold on to them.

Only the 35/1.8 will be useful, and only then because you're too cheap to buy a 35/2D.

The rest should be sold.

Also, a D610 isn't much of an upgrade. It's a D7000 with a bigger sensor.
>>
>>2892559
I have a 1.4/12-24 EDIF that i really enjoy using for architecture shots. The rest are just various zooms and non-afs. I do have a 1.8/50 that I'll probably keep.

Should I just not bother? I can get a 610 for under 1k but the next up 750 is 2k, which is out of my range unless I wait a few more months and save
>>
>>2892564
It's literally a D7000, not even a D71/200, with a full frame sensor. Autofocus, buffer, build, controls. Is the sensor good? Yes. Does it blow the socks off the D7000? A little bit, but not terribly so. Will you notice a difference? Only if you shoot lots of portraiture and night-time land scape.

Do you like the D7000 in every way except the sensor? Consider it. Personally, I'd get a D7100 for the autofocus/sensor, and just be careful not to push more than 4EV in post. The difference in price after selling the D7000 for a used D7100 would be a couple hundred dollars, tops.

The 12-24 is reportedly good from 16-24. Pretty good deal to use that.

Thanks for the advice. The D7000 is great except for non-ff. I could deal with a 7100 for a while if its good at what you say. I'll look into it.

The 12-24 @12 is pretty distorted with blurring at edges so I agree with that

A single-generation upgrade is practically nothing. Your D7000 is fine, a D7100 is just going to be a tiny incremental upgrade. A D600 is just going to be a moderate incremental upgrade (and personally I'd still pick a D700 over a D600 anyway or would save up for a D750/D800 over a D600). What problem exactly are you even trying to solve by upgrading? In what way is the D7000 not capable of doing what you want?

I'm sure this is gear related, since I can't get my gear to work the way I want it to. But it's about software.

Question: third party software for controlling a Canon Rebel t2i on a Windows computer? Canon software comes (came? I bought my camera years ago) in the form of a physical "EOS Digital Solution disk" which I can't use with a windows 10 tablet. I'd like to do astrophotography again from my tablet, but Canon has made retrieving the software from their support website impossible, at least for me - when I enter my serial number on the website to download the software, it says the software isn't available for my camera.

Any ways around this?
>>
>>2892600
16mm on FF is not W I D E enough for me. Gotta be at least 14mm or even 11mm. Tempted to get that Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM as an upgrade from my Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-4.6 HSM II.

Go to canon.com and find the software for download.

It's called Canon EOS Suite and I use it a lot for astrophotography (doping in focus just short of inifity) and remote shooting.

Also handy for studio shooting for Wifi and instant big screen previews.

Also getting the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 VC USD in the next couple of weeks. I did just get the 12-24mm, 17-40mm f/4L and the 70-200mm f/2.8 VC USD in the space of a week so I've got to slow down my spending.

Also keeping all my lenses since I've found niches for them;
12-24mm - Nightclub and landscapes
24-70mm - General functions/street photography
70-200mm - big functions/portraiture
50mm - Bokehwhoring
17-40mm - Street photography

The Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 VC USD might replace the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM but I might keep it as a spare or backup lens.

And 20mm is definitely not W I D E enough especially on fool frame.
>>
>>2892664
How do you like the 70-200 VC USD at f/2.8 vs at f/4?
>>
>>2892668
Centre frame sharpness is crisp at f/2.8 especially at 70mm, just a tad softer at 200mm.

f/4 makes it a fair bit sharper but f/5.6 is razor sharp, no matter the focal lenght.

Usually shoot at f/2.8 though so I can suppress ISO and shoot with a faster shutter speed.
>>
>>2892664
>And 20mm is definitely not W I D E enough especially on fool frame.
Depends how
W I D E

you need it to go. 20's plenty wide for me.
>>
>>2892677
Even I find 17mm inadequate after going 12mm. That's why I'm so tempted with the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM. Would be wasting $2,500 but gott dayum, would be fun to shoot at 11mm...
>>
>>2892676
I have the older one and have a slight softness at f/2.8 but is razor sharp at f/4. I use it on APS-C though.
For portraits at f/4 and higher I have to soften up the image in post not to scare off people with their own pores.
>>
>>2892681
Ah the VC version is superior in every way to the older 70-200mm f/2.8.

Had a chance to compare the two side-by-side I had about 5× more keepers compared to the old one at f/2.8. Closing them both down to f/4 or f/5.6 would make things more equal but definitely at f/2.8 the VC version is a much better lens.

The VC also helps a shit ton for handheld shooting beyond 100mm. Can bring at shutter down and still get decent images.

- Sigma 35mm f/1.4 ART $800
- Tamron 35mm f/1.8 VC USD $600

>>

Tamron is great, also has VC. Damn near a macro, but slow to focus. AF is accurate though.

>>2893019

>>
>>2893028
The original EF 35mm f/2 is cheap as chips, probably can get it for $150 or so, the IS USM is about $500. Both a okay, but too "soft" for my liking.

The original f/1.4L USM has too many optical issues especially compared to the MK II, ART and VC USD lenses. Also still priced at around $1,000 or so.

So to me, it's only really out of >>2892990. Just a question whether the MK II is worth the premium or not...

I got an Oly E-PL7 /p/.

What lens is better to adapt on it? I have a nikkor ai 1.4 and an oly om mount 1.8 both 50mm.

I think the pros for the nikkor is that it has a higher aperture and the lens are sharper? Also compatible with Nikon dslrs. The problem is if I were to buy more ai lenses in the future, it is costlier than the cheaper om glass and it is bigger.

The OM lenses are smaller and are I think cheaper than AI lenses.

What do you think? What adapters should I buy? Are ordinary chinese made cheap ones ok to use? Or should I invest on a mount and buy a mount that can turn them into autofocus lenses if there is one?

This is my first time on /p/ and probably the last.

Did I fuck up with this purchase?

I impulse bought a Canon EOS Rebel T6 on eBay for $400 bundled with a Case and 48GB SD Card. The stock lense it comes with is the 18-55mm.

After buying it I read some reviews and watch some youtube videos and realized it has an old sensor in it and only 18 MP and I should of bought the Nikon D3300 instead because it has a better sensor?

All I wanted was a camera that was better than my smartphone camera that could also transfer files wirelessly. The T6 had that so I went with it. However, should I return it and get the Nikon?

How big do you want it? You want 6x6 like your Holga or some other format? Do you want to be tied down to a tripod a lot or do you want something a little more handholdable?

Rangefinders are meant to be handheld, in my opinion. If you want an SLR with a prism then that's going to be heavier and more likely to be on a tripod. Rangefinder vs SLR is a pretty major difference in shooting style and system size and weight, which one exactly do you want? Also, many medium format SLRs are commonly used with waistlevel finders instead of prisms because the prisms tend to be big and heavy, are you sure you want a prism or would you be ok with a WLF?

>>
>>2893539

6X6 or 6X7 is ideal, 6X4.5 could work too. I would prefer to be without a tripod. I usually shoot street scenes, some portraits, and a few landscapes (but without changing lenses for large landscapes).

I like the Mamiya 6 or 7 but I'm concerned that the final composition will be different from what I see through the view finder. (They're also more expensive cameras, but thats part of the issue with going MF)

WLF would be fine, so long as I don't need to lug around a tripod for each shot.

Are light meters common in these cameras or should I expect to be using my phone or a handheld?
>>
>>2893148
Anyone /p/?
>>
>>2893547
They're usually unmetered, I use my phone or my GR as a meter. With some systems like my Bronica SQ you can get an optional metered prism but those are expensive and bulky and even then they just give you metered manual with a spot meter, not autoexposure.

I like my SQ (6x6) a lot, Bronica also has the GS-1 and ETRS which are similar but for 6x7 and 645 so you could get a Bronica for any format you want and they're cheap reliable sturdy cameras with pretty decent lenses. The Hasselblad V system is beautiful and iconic and 6x6, but way more expensive than the SQ. Pentax 67 is good too, or 645 if you want something modern with AF and autoexposure and everything. Fuji also made a lot of excellent rangefinders in various formats.

Don't be too concerned about getting the very best lenses and stuff with medium format. Sure the Hasselblad Zeiss lenses are amazing and probably blow the fuck out of most everything else, but it doesn't even matter because the film is so big that you can get good high quality scans or large enlargements anyway. Pretty much the only 120 cameras that aren't sharp are the Holga and some Soviet garbage.

Stick with DSLR, I'd say.

Sony hasn't really offered anything spectacular in terms of photography, their video full frame bodies are mint but that's really expensive stuff.

Get a prime lens like a 35mm (for crop frame) and enjoy the increased sharpness. Maybe jump into a t5i or a t6 if you want a new body.

Sony, Fuji and Canon mounts all have bigger sensors but they have shorter flange distance than your shitty zero quality mft.

a6000 is a pretty solid camera. The small size is both a minus and a plus. Nice because it is easy to carry around, a pain because controls are somewhat worse. You really can't go wrong with the a6000 though. But since you already have a Canon, I'd recomend looking at the a6300 so you can adapt Canon lenses with fast autofocus though.

Speaking of your 450D,you should use it some more before you decide on something.
>>
>>2893660
A63000 is a bit above my price range.
My main problem with my Canon is that i struggle getting pictures inn the dark, and that its a pain to carry around day-to-day.
>>
>>2893690

>My main problem with my Canon is that i struggle getting pictures inn the dark

Everything struggles with that. But a modern camera would be CONSIDERABLY better than the 450D. That thing is from what? 2008? That is 8 years of advancing sensor design.

You could try a flash depending on where/what you are shooting.

>and that its a pain to carry around day-to-day.

Then you will want mirrorless.

Look at Sony and Fuji mirrorless cameras then. Avoid micro four thirds, their sensors are too small and have shit low light performance.

I personally prefer Sony, but Fuji is well liked by many and not a bad choice either.

Anyone who thinks a DSLR is a pain to carry around doesn't want a damn mirrorless. They want a rangefinder.

It's not a pain to carry around. But it's to big for me to take out on a daily basis. Then i only limit myself to events and happenings. That is why i want something smaller.

You will se a lot of diffraction at pixel level, reducing your useful aperture range to 24MP APS-C level, so f/11-f/16 tops. You will also see noise creeping in just like on the aforementioned crop sensors due to same pixel pitch.
It is mostly a landscape and studio/product photo camera so you'll want to use it near ISO 100. Other than that it is a nice and usable camera, you just have to work with the limitations.
>>
>>2893772
Wow what's wrong with with the 5DSR? I think it is a $1000+ camera right?
>>
>>2893815
Nothing wrong but with such high pixel pitch you get penalties compared to the 5DIII, 6D or 1DX.
Not much really, the sensor has similar specs (apart from the obvious pickles) as the D7200 or the K-3
>>

If you don't even know whether you want a wide-angle or a telephoto, you don't know what you're doing. Figure that out before you buy anything.
>>
>>2893209
I just sold mine as well and it's not weather sealed. AF is too clicky for video and it's not very reliable for action stuff at f1.8. Which honestly isn't a tall order, even at 1.8, the DoF isn't THAT thin in most situations. Absurdly sharp and great build quality tho, there's literally nothing else like it for a fast aps-c zoom.
>>
>>2893506

what is a decent lens for street photography for £200 max on a crop camera?
>>
>>2893882
See >>2891992 I find the EF 17-40mm f/4L USM a very useful lens going from UWA to normal FOV. Slightly tighter with crop bodies though.

BUT 70-200mm on crop bodies is pure tele, so you'll be very limited in your ability to take dramatic, wide shots up close. Not impossible but you'll be stepping back several hundred feet to get similar framing as the 17-40mm.

If you don't have a UWA to normal zoom, go with the 17-40mm, and definitely this would be a priority lens out of the two as it's much more versatile.

Only go for the 70-200mm if you don't have a telephoto zoom lens.

PS; f/4 with no optical stabilization will be a struggle. Go with the IS version, or better yet, f/2.8 WITH optical stabilization (Tamron VC or Canon IS).

I'm looking for some advice guys. I'm looking to get a dslr to learn on.

I'm looking for a relativity cheap body that I'll be able to put some nice lenses on eventually, depending if photography is a hobby I really enjoy.
Right now I'm looking at getting one of these.

Nikon d5300. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-D5300-DSLR-Camera-w-18-55mm-VR-Lens-and-70-300mm-G-Zoom-Lens-Pro-Bundle-/111647589358?hash=item19feb703ee:g:yowAAOSw1S9WcIC2

or

Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM. A lityle qt3.14 of a lens with decent optical performance. Wouldn't recommend the 50mm f/1.8 STM yet because it's equivalent to an 81mm FOV which is crazy tight for street shooting.

Hell, even 50mm on fool frame is too tight for me.
>>
>>2893933
Your phone will be a better choice
>>
>>2893938
thank you senpai i'll have a look into getting one if you recommend it
>>
>>2893945
Go to a store and demo it. Other option is the original EF 35mm f/2, but those are now far behind modern optic performance as well as loud, screechy things with the outdated AF motor.

Still think 24mm on crop is a more suitable street photography focal length though.
>>
>>2893883
35mm is the usual standard, some will say 50mm but that can be a bit cramped in tighter spaces.

I'd even say sub 18mm wide angle for really close up contact
>>
>>2893916
most of those bundles are crap as in the filters and such are of poor quality

the standard 18-55mm kit lenses are not bad and it will serve you well to determine what type of prime you'd like to purchase in the future
>>
>>2894008
I figured as much. So is nikon really that bad or is it just a meme. I'm doing a bit of research into the a6000. Is sony a good "ecosystem" to get into, lens-wise or should I just save up a bit more for a canon?
>>

Hey, Sonyfag.

- 35mm point n shoot with a fixed lens

>>
>>2894017
nikon has a slight edge in photo quality in certain instances, but canon seems to have better video focus capture capacity

>>
>>2894066

I'd say the Fuji shills are worse. They are almost militant about how their 20 lens ecosystem is perfect.
>>
>>2894089
I mean...I posted that the camera was supposed to have AF, and you recommended something that wasn't AF.

Did you not read that the camera recommendation was supposed to have af? Am I missing something?
>>
>>2894048
>Is sony a good "ecosystem" to get into, lens-wise or should I just save up a bit more for a canon?

E-mount is at a weird place now.

Their APS-C ecosystem is pretty awesome. Well rounded and affordable.

Their fullframe is limited and stupid expensive though. Pretty much pro lenses only.

On the plus side, their newer bodies can adapt Canon EF lenses with pretty fast autofocus....if you buy a ridiculously priced $400 adapter.

I actually like Sony's cameras quite a bit, but I'd say just go with Canon. They are solid cameras, with a very mature ecosystem. A DSLR still outperforms a mirrorless when it comes to autofocus speed too.

Might need a bit of repair advice for my camera:

>Was using D7200 in heavy rain during an event in Belfast
>Got home and like an idiot didn't prepare for the temperature change bringing it indoors
>Fogged up viewfinder like crazy
>Viewfinder eventually cleared a bit
>However now when I use Aperture Priority the shutter speed is always weirdly low even for well lit conditions

What do you reckon has happened here, has the condensation fucked up the sensor or something?

Never had any problem with my Pentax in heavy rain. Sounds like fogging on the metering sensor. Probably insufficient sealing, perhaps the lens was not sealed.
Try putting it in a drybox without any covers, any sealable plastic container and a ceresit or similar desiccant, wait for a day or two and try again. Do the same with the lens.

D810 is good for huge prints and landscape-style things, D750 is really nice for low-light.

Both are FF, the 810 is 36mp and the 750 is 24mp

There's not really such a thing as magic lantern for Nikon, sadly. The D750 does have highlight display built in, though, along with other nice things for recording use.

If you must have a ML-style thing I'd check out http://nikonhacker.com/, they might be able to help you.

Because DSLR, there's a 30 minute recording limit so you don't have to pay extra tax on it as a camcorder (Retarded, I know). That can only be gotten around with an external recorder or firmware hack.

The D500 isn't full frame, but worth looking at for its 2160p30 video.

I have a Tamron 70-300 f/4-5.6 VC that's relatively new. Yesterday it struggled to auto-focus at all on my D3300, searching up and down way past the ideal mark. I tested it on a D500 as well and while a little better still struggle to find focus in less than ideal conditions.

However today it is auto-focusing fine, even zoomed in on close/dark objects on all sorts of different settings.

Is there any reason why this might happen or am I just being retarded?

Thank you for reasonable reply will look into strap solution.

I want to make my current backpack work. Have too many bags already.
Problem is it's kinda flimsy for cams hence lens pouches

Good on lenses you think?
Will probably buy them then.
Also going to get:
-Few covers/filters (UV and polarize mostly everything else obsolete IMO w/ postprocess)
-More lens wipes
-Lens pouches I guess
-Adapter ring for extant lens from mom's old SLR. (Sigma 35-70mm lens)
I assume that was the "kit lens" for hers because she said she didn't have any other lenses

I can do this because I was going to spent +$50 more on Canon 75-300 but did reading and Sigma APO is better lens and cheaper

GM5 sells itself on size. That's nearly EM10 II money, or EM10 or EM5. Ask yourself how small you want to go. A GM5 with the 20mm is a svelte combination though.

A D70 is a perfectly good camera though. Maybe buy a D7000 used if you feel the body's too dated, but you like DSLR controls.

>>2894821
Depends what kind of wildlife, but the rule of thumb is that you never really have enough. That being said, a 70-200 is only good for being up close when the bear is about to maul you. A 70-300 on crop is getting there. A 100-400 is nice. 200-500 or 150-600 is even better. It just keeps going up. Birds need long focal lengths because they're tiny, animals need the same because they're skittish (or you are, in the case of bears).

For mere mortals, get a 70-300 and make do. A 70-200/2.8+2xTC gives you a lot of flexibility (low light, or 400/5.6), but at the expense of image quality for the same price (compared to AF-S 80-400/100-400L). They're "sharp enough" instead of "very sharp". Ask yourself what you value more.

Yes, jpegs.

While Sony has some of the best
sensors on the market, their jpeg processing is....sub-par to say the least.

Shoot raw and process them yourself for better results.

The 16-50 kit lens isn't all the sharp either. It is a "good enough" lens. Doesn't excel or fail in any area, but it is small and "good enough" for most shots.

So a while ago, I made the decision to buy a Canon EOS 1D Mark III, I had a Nikon D200 before buying it and was getting sick of it.

The seller of the 1D said the camera was far too complex for him (He's a surf photographer), how ever I found it very easy to adapt to the camera and learn things about it.

Anyway that being irrelevant, I'm considering swapping it out for a 5D due to it not having a video function. I'm planning to do videos for the gym I go to (Currently do some photography for the coaches) and Automotive videos.

Is it worth swapping out for a 5D, obviously I'll have to spend some more money to get the camera, or should I just get a cheap 550D? (I've used the 5D before but no the 550)

What is the best L series lens for the money?
>>
>>2895136
For what purpose?

EF 17-40mm f/4L USM for UWA to normal funz
EF 70-200mm f/4L USM for tele funz
EF 400mm f/5.6L USM for supertele funz
EF 50mm f/1.2 USM for bokeh funz
>>
>>2895145
Something for general use going forward, like street and portraits. The kind of lens I won't have to replace a few years down the line.
>>
>>2895152
Any of the rectilinear UWA zooms are going to be good;
17-40mm f/4L $500~
16-35mm f/4L IS USM $1,000~
16-35mm f/2.8L USM $1,500~

But consider the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 VC USD ($1,000) as well as the Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8 ATX Pro ($600) as both are awesome third party solutions.

I have the 17-40mm f/4L USM myself but only using it as a back up lens as I have other lenses that cover it's focal range >>2891992

But do remember that these lenses will be much "longer" with a cropbabby sensor.

pentax espio mini or the olympus stylus epic

both have great ergonomics for such tiny cameras, my only complaint would be that the viewfinders are small but what are you gonna do

these cameras fit all your requirements minus the push pull thing, you should look into dx code manipulation, thats how i push tri x in my espio

also please dont pay more than $60 for either of these cameras, check thrift stores before you go on ebay

How do you guys pick a monitor?
I'm stuck picking between 2 monitors. I'm allowed to pick between these 2 monitors that my work will pay for.

http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/it/monitor/professional-monitor/LS24E65UPL/EN

and

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1219360-REG/hp_m1n98a8_aba_elitedisplay_e232_23_full.html?gclid=CJqjw7-upc4CFWEz0wodQkoEWQ&c3api=2572%2C113041717267

None of them show what colors the reproduce.

What is the go-to manual flashgun for strobist stuff?

I know everyone buys Yongnuo but I can't figure out their product naming scheme and they give guide numbers at different zoom levels for all of their flashes (in true chinkshit style)

Also perferably one that runs off AA batteries so I don't have to trust a shady Chinese battery

Pic unrelated

Dell if you're a poorfaggot.

But anything with 10bit/AdobeRGB (or greater) is the bare minimum for colour accurate reproduction. Also need a GPU to support that shit too.

Just get a genuine flash mang. Manual shooting is tolerable, but having iTTL/ETTL, wireless control and syncronization amongst all your flashes is awesome. No need to fiddle around with individual settings when you can all control them via your camera.

The 18-70 was the old 'good' zoom lens. Equivalent to the 16-85 VR. Stick with it, it's a fine lens.

>>2895007
You could spend the money for a 5D3, or pick up a rabal for video and keep the 1D for photography.

EF 1200mm L, I use mine for everything I shoot.

YN560 is their series of manual flashes. The current model is the IV, and has a transmitter built in that's compatible with their 620 (I think) series transmitters. YN 565/568 are their TTL flashes.

If you're not going to buy a LM160 like the Strobist recommends, the YN560s are perfectly good flashes. Cheap, capable, reasonably reliable. I'd buy an army of YN560s, and keep a cheap TTL flash (EX430/SB600/YN568) as my run and gunner.

More specifically Klasse S/W.

First gen Klasse owner here, pain in the ass to push/pull/use self loads unless you have DX stickers or tape.

And that is bad....how?

I have a Nissin Di622 mk2

Very basic and TTL only works on-camera (unless you buy a TTL remote trigger I guess)
But the build is solid.

This vintage pentax leather camera bag up for grabs for pennies at an online auction here in Sweden. What is it worth you reckon, /p/? Also includes m lenses 50 and 135 mm and a pentax mv.

Whats the deal with international versions of cameras? They always seem to be a good 250-300 dollars cheaper than the US versions. Link related.

Let it be known that although it's awesome to get a 28-300mm lens is very flexible, it's probably fairly cheaply made...at least in comparison to higher end lens.
Secondly, 28-300mm.....3.5 to 6.3 aperature...meaning anything above 28mm focal length will usually jump to 6.3 aperature. You will suffer clarity issues usually with this, maybe not on a bright day
The reason why higher end glass is usually so fucking expensive is because to get a good quality definition picture at 300mm you physically need bigger glass. You can work around it with these smaller lens' but you'll never get the same results.

Used Nikon Speedlight. SB-24 is great because it shows you the reach of whatever power/zoom/ISO/aperture combo you have dialed in with an LCD bar graph.
If you must go new and chinese, I say DEFINITELY go Li-Ion batteries. They are so much faster it's not funny.
Mine is a Godox Ving V860 (I think) and it's great. It will run full power pops at 2 second intervals until the casing melts, if you want.
I'm not sure if they have a TTL model yet.
